Flynn to visit Seattle hoping to increase market value

There's been a lot of information (and misinformation) about Matt Flynn and the market for him as a potential starting quarterback the past two days.

The truth?

He is scheduled to visit the Seattle Seahawks on Friday. It doesn't mean he's going to necessarily sign there. But this is clearly the most attention any team has shown the Green Bay Packers free agent.

I would say the team to show the next most amount of attention is the Dolphins. But even Miami has not offered Flynn a contract with an option for him to sign. That report was false. As I wrote yesterday, the Dolphins touched base with Flynn, sure. But contract offer? Nope.

That would defeat the purpose of getting Peyton Manning.

The Cleveland Browns apparently didn't offer any sort of contract, either, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Again, a report yesterday stated the Browns were trying to sign Flynn. That report was false, I have confirmed.

The Seattle attention of Flynn is understandable and expected. Seattle general manager John Schneider was with Green Bay when Flynn was drafted. Schneider knows and likes Flynn.

One thing: I do not believe Flynn is immediately going to get a huge contract offer from anyone. The truth is the Dolphins are still hoping to land Manning and they won't be in full blown desperation mode unless and until Manning goes elsewhere.

And until at least two teams are bidding for Flynn the full potential of his market won't be reached. His agent knows this. Or should.

The Seahawks are also scheduled to host a visit by Chad Henne. He is visiting tonight and tomorrow.

Fins are OUT of the Manning sweepstakes. Everybody except Jeff Ireland knows this.

No Balls,

I read your comments from the last blog about Mario Williams. I also read he's taking a physical. I have to disagree that it means the deal is done with Buffalo. The guy's coming off a pretty big injury. It could just mean the Bills are doing their due diligence on him before they make an offer. I'm not saying he's not going to Buffalo. I have to say though, for one of the biggest FAs out there this year, I'd be shocked if he jumps at the first offer thrown at him.

MANNING IS LOOKING GO TO DENVER,FLYNN TO EXPENSIVE,SO, WAIT NEXT YEAR DRAFT LANDRY JONES OR BERKELEY,THIS YEAR WE NEED PASS RUSHER, WR,RT,FS...FOR NOW==¡

Manning not coming here, traded away Marshall, we have a slew of draft picks but Ireland drafting.

Barfing for Barkley in 2012.

Craig, a guy usually takes a physical because of the term, "deal pending a physical". I'd say that's done ...

Meanwhile we are talking about Laurent Robinson and matt Flynn. I'm really down. So down.

Manning is not going to sign in Miami, we don't have any receivers, our tight end sucks, and our OL is average at best. They may sign Flynn but it will be at a high cost and they will overpay for him like Arizona did last year for Kolb. Need to go after Mario Williams to help out the defense because the offense isn't going to score any points.

Cheer up Mark. We'll get to see Mario Williams tearing through our offensive line for years to come.

The story on PFT is that the Browns aren't interested in Flynn. Unless something changes, it looks like us and Seattle.

What if Flynn is offered a bunch of money from Seattle, will we match it just cause? If he signs to Seattle and Manning signs elsewhere were screwed.

So are guys going to be PISSED if it's Moore and Orton next year with a guy like Tannehill in the wings? Is that a lousy scenario?

It's time for Manning to at least infom which teams are no longer in contention for his services.

The reality is no one wants to be part of the Dolphins organization anymore. We can't sign good free agents, coaches run from the chance to be the head coach, and rookies can't wait to play through their rookie contract and sign with another team. I doubt we will have any significant signings in free agency, no starting caliber players, and certainly no pro bowl level players. We will build through the draft and get a bunch of busts that will field a "competitive" team, but we have become the Clippers of the NFL.

Wasn't Tannehill considered a late 1st rounder only a few months ago? Did he have a monster combine or something or are they projecting him so high due to the desparation of Cleveland and Miami? Someone please explain.

IMO Flynn is just posturing with this Seattle nonsense. I think Miami is his 1st choice.
Does anyone else feel like a Browns fan all of a sudden??? Such a proud franchise now reduced to a 3rd rate NFL team...I'm gonna try and shower off this disgusting feeling I have right now.

the trouble with the Dolphins is that in the past they have acted out of desperation. If they're not 100% sure Flynn could be elite they should only offer a modest deal.

If the Dolphins don't get Manning and can't get a bargin with FLynn they shall just have to accept that an elite QB is currently not availabe. Give Moore another shot and plan for QB a acquisition next year. In the meantime WR, LB, CB, RT....

Hey JJ... I think it's ROSS who doesn't know were out of the Manning hunt... I think Philbin and Ireland wanna move on but are being handcuffe by our clueless owner.....

Offloading an inconsistent player, his huge salary & his off-field problems for 2 third round picks who will be younger, cheaper & more likely team players doesn't appear anywhere in my dictionary as the definition of nothing! Anyone who saw the Pro Bowl must have questioned the sanity of the lone player who tried like he was at the Superbowl! I have nothing against the Bears but I bet we haven't heard the last of Brandon Marshall & for all the wrong reasons!

Chris in the 623 - Tannehill's draft stock has been rising due to supply/demand. Not enough supply and too much demand. Prior to Barkley and Landry announcing they were going back to school, Tannehill was a solid mid 2nd round pick. Once they declared they were going back to school, Tannehill immediately bumped into the first round.

The Owner of the Texans having a good laugh:

"If there were an ideal club for him to be with, if it was just his decision alone, it would be the Texans because that gives him the best chance to win and that's really what he's looking for," McNair said Tuesday during a radio interview with KILT-AM. "But, we have a quarterback that we're happy with. Now the teams that he's talking to are the teams that don't have a quarterback and they're taking the risk of bringing a player in that they haven't even worked out."

Matt Moore probably feels like Jan Brady....Am I invisible? Can you not see me??? Maybe he should put on a big afro for attention.

2 3rds rounders really don't help with Blackmon unless you expect to trade a 1, 2, and 3 (maybe more) to move up about 4-5 spots. I hear he's worth it but at the same time isn't, so we'll just have to wait and see. If this trade, with the help of a few more picks, turns into Blackmon than I guess it's not that bad overall. Also gives us money to get people

It's over... Another long year...

I'm still of the mindset that Flynn is not going to be offered the kind of contract and compensation that many have been talking about. IMO, it is/was all media speculation....the same media speculation that lead everyone to believe that Miami was the front runner for Manning and that Washington was ever in the mix at all.

I think Flynn is going to get a nice raise and a competitive salary that will equate to the salary of bringing in a solid piece to compete for the starting job. I just don't think anyone is going to offer him franchise QB money at this point, and that's pretty much how I've felt all along.

What we've seen yesterday and this blog today just re-affirms that for me. He's not quite the commodity that the media made him out to be.

If we had Moore and Orton for next year it would be OK only if we actually had some receivers and a TE to throw the ball to, but we don't so they are set up to fail. Tannehill? Really? I wouldn't draft the guy until the 5th round, he's just not that good.

Tannehill will be a sure first round pick. Depending on what happens with that fukking sweater named matt Flynn, he may go as high as Cleveland, maybe to us, and surely not passed Seattle.

I don't see how he's any worse of a gamble than locker or ponder so it makes sense.

Thanks wolfman, that's what I suspected. I'll take one dose of Matt Flynn in FA and either Weeden or Wilson in the draft. If we can somehow move up to get Blackmon without giving away the farm I'm on board.

Mark in Toronto - I completely agree with that assessment. To boot, I don't see it as any greater risk than Flynn. IMO, price tag will be comparable, but then again, I'm one of the few that DOESN'T think Flynn is going to be given the sun, moon, and stars to sign anywhere.

The Dolphins DON'T need Flynn as Matt Moore is better than Flynn. Its evident that Flynn is questionable as even Cleveland is not interested in him. If the Dolphins have a conviction about Tannehill, then they should trade up with the Vikings NOW as Cleveland will draft him.

Dbmfins u don't get it. Even if Moore was better (and he isn't) he CANNOT run a west coast offense! And Flynn, no matter what, can. He is schooled in it, which is not common because it specifically is about timing and precision, and cannot be taught or adjusted to for Moore. So anyone saying keep Moore needs to understand our new offense better.

If Manning truely doesn't want to play in Miami why hasn't Miami been eliminated? Is is because Miami is willing to give Manning the largest contract? It seems to me Manning is just using the Dolphins. If the Dolphins don't care they are being used and want to this all play out, then fine.

But if they lose out on Flynn (and IF they like Flynn) because they are waiting on a Manning decision, then we have a MAJOR problem!

#1 Receiver has to come to us now. What's our plan there?
This Free Agent Laurent Robinson, look to draft Blackmon or Michael Floyd from Notre Dame...

Would like secure Solai back who is a huge run stuffer and I have heard good things about OT Winston who would take care of our RT spot.
Let this play out before bashing Ireland.

Chris in the 623 - the announcement that Barkley and Jones were pulling out pretty much moved everyone up. Tannehill went from solid mid 2nd round to 1st. Weeden went from being a 3rd to being a high to mid 2nd round prospect. Osweiler jumped from 3rd rnd prospect to late 2nd round prospect....and on an on. It's a domino effect.

Essentially, no matter who they draft (should they choose to go that route), the guy will be picked at an inflated draft position given little supply.

Cleveland won't draft Tannehill, Holmgran doesn't believe in taking a QB that high, look where they got Colt McCoy. They draft QBs late and try to develop them. Tannehill will be there for Miami, but he will be a reach at that point.

Ok, so without Marshall, now we have NO playmakers…..AGAIN! We are rebuilding like an expansion team …..without the draft choices. YIKES!!

Wolfman, he will get a monster contract, u couldn't be more wrong. It's not about talent, or gameplay, it's about one simple aspect of business: supply and demand. THERE IS ONE QB OPEN IN FREE AGENCY. One. When has that ever been the case. And no less than six teams are absolutely starved at qb and no less than three all have blogs just like this one that feel that if they don't get manning then they will definitely get Flynn, no matter the cost. He will get 12 million. And for a qb that deserves a sixth of that, that's not half bad.

Daaah Beeearsh.

And btw, HOW THE HELL DID WE GIVE UP BRANDON MARSHALL???! now we go back to the worst wide receiving core in the league (no group has less tds in last four years or less yards) and that's suppose to entice Flynn or manning? The ONLY way I see this is if we think we can get Blackmon, now that Colston has signed.....but even then we are one short. This is unbelievable. Being a dolphins fan has just unexpectedly gotten worse, how is that possible. And we get two third rounds for it? Even worse. When was the last time this shittt think tank got anything out of the third round? Sad.

Why did we sit and watch other teams pick up WRs without making some offers and getting one. Teams are going to put 8 in the box and Bush will have no room to run. Better sign a second punter, Fields is going to be overworked.

I say Michael Floyd at number 8...I wouldn't mind getting Ted Ginn back..It would help in the return game and he seems to be a better receiver than when he left....Next draft in this order pass rusher,cb,saftey..try to fill some holes with through FA

Cleveland almost traded for RGIII. I wouldn't count out Cleveland drafting Tannehill at #4 despite their other needs. They don't seem interested in Flynn which means they must have someone they are targeting in the draft (likely Tannehill) or are willing to give Colt McCoy one more year.

Floyd is a reach at 8, so it better mean we are trading down......

No balls, nobody loves draft picks more than browns gm, I think they are going to trade it if possible and give colt one more year. My belief on who the steal will be at qb in the draft? Russel Wilson. He may be just shy of six feet, but that is literally his only knock, and he has things no other qb does, like our year starter (succesful even as a freshman)....trust me, it matters. Watch out.

By now we should be drafting backups to add depth to our team, but because Parcells and Ireland have no clue how to draft and never sign any solid FAs, we are still drafting hoping to get starters to come in and be playmakers on day one. That is unrealistic and our team will never improve until we have a new GM. Our GM (and owner) are the true reason why the Mannings (both Peyton and Archie) have no interest in Miami.

Can Ross and Ireland run this team any deeper into the ground? LMAO!

*four

Not sure HOW the Dolphins are still in the Manning sweepstakes as they don't have enough $$$ to sign him and fix other problems.

Who are you going to restructure to have enough $$$ to bring Manning in? Are we going to see a bunch of players cut? Or are we going to extend players like Dansby whom is already making too much based on his cap #?

I just see anyway of getting Manning done. Of course if they can get him they will to sell tickets and jerseys.

Ron son: yes. They could draft an OL at 8 and keep soliai at the ridiculous price he wants.

If we draft an OL at #8 I am going to puke!!

No Balls I was worried about the same thing but the fact that Cleveland hasn't offered Flynn a contract mixed with the fact his meeting with Seattle isn't until Friday means we can wait on Peyton until at least then and it is said he should make a decision on Fri.

If I were Flynn Miami would be my number one choice. So many reasons to obvious to list.

Also, on your sign in name, it looks like you're saying YOU have "no balls". Posted by; "no balls". I realize you're going for a bust on our teams lack of guts but every time I see the name it makes me laugh. :)

No balls: by releasing Marshall, soliai, henne, we have lost three of our top six (and two of our top three) salaries, so we will have room. And also, and this hurts to say, but is there anybody on this team (besides long) that u would care to see go now that Marshall is gone to get manning and Wayne??? Me neither

The Dolphins have a plan and that is to sign Peyton Manning. That planscrewed everything up for the Dolphins. I just do not understand the Brandon Marshall deal. Marshall was a piece of the offense that drew attention and assisted the other Dolphin receivers in getting open. Manning is not going to go to the Dolphins because they make moves with personnel that do not make sense. Manning will be a Denver Bronco by the end of the week. The Dolphins already messed up their chances of landing a good receiver in free agency by goiing after Manning. They should get Matt Moore a backup and go after a receiver. Now the Dolphins need a receiver big time.

too (typo) obvious

I think at #8 we will be draft a DE

I just figure let's get Flynn as the unknown quantity and also draft a QB, but not in the 1st round. That way we have two lottery tickets instead of one plus we still have the #8 pick. If we go Tannehill at #8 it's Moore's job in 2012 AND he will have one of the weakest WR cores in the NFL to throw to. Potential recipe for disaster not to mention the fact that the stadium will be empty in that scenario.

UHHHH DID ANYONE ELSE THAT INDY JUST RESIGNED REGGIE WAYNE!!!! HOW DID I MISS THIS! now wtf are we going to do!!!
We need to ask manning point blank if we have a chance, because the one thing that kept us in it, Wayne pushing for Miami, is GONE!!!
I hate Jeff Ireland. Hate him. He's the only person I feel that strongly about. We had two selling points, Wayne loves Miami, and where Arizona has fitz we have b marsh, and now we have no chance. IRELAND IS KILLING THIS TEAM, WHO IS WITH ME!?

Ireland will squander 3 picks on a backup punter. LMAO!

But good point no balls. How in the hell do they expect to sign Manning and any other player when Manning will take up our entire cap. Can someone please explain this one because it makes no sense. There is no way possible we are still in the Manning thing unless they are working some trades behind the scenes or plan on cutting someone else. We now need a RT, #1 WR,OLB,FS AND possibly TE from free agency AND/OR THE DRAFT. Signing Manning means no more weapons which means Manning all of the sudden shouldn't be interested in Miami. How in the hell are we still in this at all??????!!!!!!!!!!

Michael Floyd and Laurant Robinson would make a pretty nice combo at wr with Bess in the slot.

Could we trade down in the 1st and then acquire Mike Wallace of the Steelers who is a RFA? It would cost us our 1st Rd pick but he's a young yet proven WR - better than Marshall and arguably better than Blackmon could be.

Alternatively Robinson, Manningham, Bowe and Royal are all FA's and not too old.

Without better recievers the Dolphins are not viable. Perhaps acquire a bunch of young players, lose in 2012 and get 1 or 2nd pick in the draft next year.

Bucs signed Nicks & Wright.
Wright didn't come here for a visit he went to Tampa.
Once again good FA's go to good teams.
Acorns come here like Winston(acorn) to replace Cloumbus(acorn)

So are guys going to be PISSED if it's Moore and Orton next year with a guy like Tannehill in the wings? Is that a lousy scenario?
