There's been a lot of information (and misinformation) about Matt Flynn and the market for him as a potential starting quarterback the past two days.
The truth?
He is scheduled to visit the Seattle Seahawks on Friday. It doesn't mean he's going to necessarily sign there. But this is clearly the most attention any team has shown the Green Bay Packers free agent.
I would say the team to show the next most amount of attention is the Dolphins. But even Miami has not offered Flynn a contract with an option for him to sign. That report was false. As I wrote yesterday, the Dolphins touched base with Flynn, sure. But contract offer? Nope.
That would defeat the purpose of getting Peyton Manning.
The Cleveland Browns apparently didn't offer any sort of contract, either, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Again, a report yesterday stated the Browns were trying to sign Flynn. That report was false, I have confirmed.
The Seattle attention of Flynn is understandable and expected. Seattle general manager John Schneider was with Green Bay when Flynn was drafted. Schneider knows and likes Flynn.
One thing: I do not believe Flynn is immediately going to get a huge contract offer from anyone. The truth is the Dolphins are still hoping to land Manning and they won't be in full blown desperation mode unless and until Manning goes elsewhere.
And until at least two teams are bidding for Flynn the full potential of his market won't be reached. His agent knows this. Or should.
The Seahawks are also scheduled to host a visit by Chad Henne. He is visiting tonight and tomorrow.

Phins78 said he was out, yet is here still rambling? Do you have amnesia too? For the love of pete!

Laurent Robinson is HAPPY with Jacksonville's offer. It has now come down to whether he wants to LIVE in Jacksonville.
I don't know what the offer was, but if I was Miami I would immediately call his agent and tell him you will at the very least match the offer IF it is reasonable.
Who would want to live in Jacksonville?
Posted by: No Balls | March 14, 2012 at 01:30 PM
"According to the Florida Times-Union, money is not an issue in the Jaguars discussions with free agent Laurent Robinson.
In other words, the Jaguars are prepared to satisfy Robinson's contract demands. The only issue is if Robinson is prepared to play in Jacksonville. We suspect the sides will hammer out a deal, as the Miami Herald previously reported Robinson was only interested in visiting the Dolphins if a contract couldn't be squared away with the Jags."
If Robinson signs with the Jaguars then we'll all know that we're a joke & that we should expect another pathetic season from the incompetents in charge.

NH, first, I didn't say a team HAD to have a cancer (what I said was it seemed many cancers were HOF'ers, and most SB winning teams needed HOF'ers).
However, I know Osi gave them heartburn at the beginning of the year (so I'd say him). Also know they had some issues with Nicks. Other than that, I wouldn't know, they're not my team so I don't know their in's and out's. Oh, there's Brandon Jacobs, but they got rid of him.

Only team who Manning agreed to meet who couldn't get Manning back to their facilities is the Dolphins....hmmmm.
And Dolphins still think they are in it?
Also, who is Miami going to have as their #1 WR? Looks like the well is almost dry. Robinson likely won't leave Jacksonville.

Home facts on the emerging acorn:
On October 2, as the team's third receiver Robinson caught seven passes for 116 yards in a loss to the Detroit Lions. During the week eight loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, he had five catches for 103 yards and a touchdown, his first as a Cowboy. In the next game on November 6, Robinson again caught five passes 32 yards and a touchdown. Robinson followed up that game with three catches, two of which were touchdowns, against the Buffalo Bills starting in place of Miles Austin, while he was recovering from a hamstring injury. From week 8 through week 12, Laurent caught 24 passes for a total of 321 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Fins working on deal w WR Robinson
Robinson averages about 16 YDs per catch and scored 11 TDs last season w the Cowboys even though he was only named a starter in 3 of the games

It's not like we're the Patriots & can afford to sit back & let the market come to us. Freaking Irleand & his acorns....How's that working out???
We've become one of the most dysfunctional organizations in the NFL. Right up there with the Redskins, the Cowboys, & the Browns. However, Ross is an even worse owner b/c at least the other three teams can sell out their games. I didn't think it was possible to have a worse owner than Huzienga but he usually got what he went after. With Ross & Ireland they have begun to alienate players & coaches from coming here. Time to cut your losses & sell Stevie boy.

Once Peyton decides on his future everything will happen quickly, good or bad
What I don't understand is trading Marshall without having a replacement first, WE could have signed a WR first and still traded him
Also, I don't want Tanneyhill at #8 either, too high and not sure Sherman will stake his rep on him
Posted by: Craig | March 14, 2012 at 01:47 PM
Phins aren't working on a deal for Robinson. They have him scheduled to visit IF he gets out of Jacksonville. He is happy with Jacksonville's offer.

Craig...sources indicate that Philbin's new WC Offense is designed to spread the ball around to many receivers & running backs.
He knew from Ireland that Marshall was a cry baby when Henne did not throw it to him on every play...the guy was unstable and unreliable in the clutch.

To boot, Marshall has never been a precise route runner, which is required in a WC scheme. It's all timing and precision.

No big loss. Whether he was starting for Austin or Bryant, he was still the 3rd option between that guy & Whitten. He was always single covered. He won't get that anymore. Alvin Harper Reincarnated!

ESPN's George Smith reporting Peyton Manning will return from Durham to Nashville to visit with #Titans at their facility. This is a slap in the face of the Dolphins. The only taem that went to Manning instead of Manning coming to them.

NHFINSFAN, they had been looking to trade him to the Bears since the combine. This trade was obviously part of a plan involving a direction they are taking offensively. They obviously didn't see Marshall fitting in.
Posted by: The Signal | March 14, 2012 at 01:58 PM
Georgia,
Yeah Miami is so far out looking it in at this point that if they want Flynn then go get him. If they dont prioritize Flynn then fine but please move on from Manning. He clearly is not interested enough in Miami to even view their facilities.
Posted by: AndyNJ | March 14, 2012 at 01:58 PM
i have to agree, completely agree, with your colleague Greg Cote: JEFF IRELAND IS MORONIC. the marshall trade just another example of his poor management skills, bad decision-making and questionable sense of right and wrong, not to mention his low class.

I agree NH. I get it all, Our best playmaker has been traded and we are left with nothing else at this point. I am pissed about not haveing "somthing" else also.
That being said, we also lost a guy that dropped almost as many touchdowns that he caught. He is a cancer on the practice field, and the story even assuming the agent is half right with his discription of the events. He is still facing a possible suspension, and I dont 100% believe the media nor do I believe the agent 100%. That leads me to believe disciplin will be handed down.
So even if we kept him, if we did not get manning, odds are he would end up being a bigger problem than not. So as an organization, the move made sense to me.
Posted by: Poizen | March 14, 2012 at 02:06 PM

Posted by: Michael | March 14, 2012 at 02:06 PM
AndyNJ,
Will Ross ever learn? I understand he swings for the fences but someone needs to tell him that you need a bat to hit the ball. Image and marketing is everything in sports. Once you lose your fan base, you lose your draw for the superstars in your sports. That is why the Dolphins best bet to get their QB is the draft.
Posted by: dolphin fan in georgia | March 14, 2012 at 02:09 PM
i'm officially on a stick with moore path. we got 4 picks in the 1st 3 rounds the next 2 years. we can find a QB of the future in the draft. moore showed potential with no camp, no first team snaps. 6-3 down the stretch and without marshall dropping sure TD's he could have been 8-1. the fins need to stop looking like panic driving fools. stop chasing and losing. stop talking to idiots like armundo, spilling how this is top priority!! i didn't want fisher, i don't want manning but ross looks like a total moron by saying things to the press!! just like the harbaugh thing last year!! now matter what your job is can you try to at least act like you belong in it!!!

Andy, I just saw your response to me from very early on. I will never say "because a guy is drafted in the 7th round he can not be good. What I was saying is we are talking throwing 50 million at a 7th round pick, picked there for a reason, and the ringing endorsement from the guy he played with was he is a top 15 guy.
50 million. It "feels" like it has disaster written all over it, I am not saying it does. But we have not seen enough of Flynn to seperate him that far from the 7th round pick. We have seen 4 games.
Posted by: Poizen | March 14, 2012 at 02:12 PM
I hope the Titans get Manning and we get their cast-off, Hasselbeck. I'm pretty sure he knows something about the WCO (10+ years in Holmgren's system @ GB & Seattle). He would probably be a much better mentor for Moore, Devlin, or whatever QB we draft, than Manning would ever be. Just spend a few moments reflecting on the performance of Manning's back-ups through the years....not a lot of mentoring going on there.

lets say manning signs elsewhere, and lets say some fans negative comments on flynn are accurate, short, weak arm, inexperienced... lets say miami ponders the option to sign flynn while seriously considering a trade for ryan mallet. who would you prefer between the two? i think flynn, if surrounded with a super skilled recieving core can thrive, as would ryan mallet. of the two, RYAN MALLET offers some important qualities that flynn does NOT have, mallet has the advantage of heigth, superior arm strength, advanced schooling(brady/belicheat) coupled with great intangables(a competitive fire and lofty goals that only tom brady's presence could have created) and a burning desire(like a welker or zach thomas or even Dan Marino) had because of size or because he dropped on draft day. nonetheless, if either of these guys are wearing a dolphins helmet come september, the need for top end talent at reciever is an absolute MUST. miami's need for a reciever that can blow the top off the defense and actually CATCH the ball(ted ginn comes to mind) and create y.a.c. is gargantuen, marshall was inconsisistant(red zone) and did not possess the speed. Ross could give dolphans hope that would translate into ticket sales by signing MIKE WALLACE, this would be possible if miami signed flynn, but would the deep ball be as effective with flynn as compared to RYAN MALLET airing it out? did ross even look into what it would cost him sign ryan mallet? another reason for signing MIKE WALLACE would be to prevent the AFC east dominating patriots from becoming UNTOUCHABLE. i've already heard this nightmare scenario of WALLACE signing with the patriots a couple of times on the NFL network, if this becomes reality, ROSS should just pack it in, if we CAN'T be competitive in the offseason, what does he think the regular season is going to look like. this is a bad joke, is ross a millionaire who secretly hates the miami fan base and enjoys tourturing it with mediocre players at skilled positions for kicks? pictue this, the brady bomb to mike wallace... disgusting.

1. You have zero common sense.
I mean, the entire NFL & it's fans look at Miami as a joke. You fall into .01% of the population to think otherwise. You & 3 or 4 other people on this blog. You may hate it but, that's reality!
2. I haven't read anything intelligent on this blog all day. That includes from you so don't flatter yourself!
I'll go to my trailer when you go back to your mental hopital for your over due checkup.

The question now regarding Moore (which I had not previously thought of, but another blogger mentioned), is whether or not Moore can work in Philbins offense. Im pretty much settled with Moore starting and looking in the draft for someone to groom. But it does beg to question whether Moore can run a WC style offense.
