Is Manning really that into the Dolphins?

I've dated in my life. I know what it looks like when someone is really into me ... and I know what it looks like when someone really isn't that into me. (Insert jokes in comments section).

Anyway, free agency is a little like dating. You wine. You dine. You spend money. You chase. It is a date minus the flowers or candy. And so far, Peyton Manning has been on four dates in the last week since his release from the Indianapolis Colts.

He dated Denver. He dated Arizona. He dated Miami. And he dated Tennessee.

My issue?

He dated Denver in Denver over a two-day span. He dated Arizona in Arizona over a two-day span. He dated Tennessee in Nashville over a 9-hour span.

The Dolphins? They had to go to him. They got only five hours.

Does that sound like the Dolphins got equal treatment? Does it sound like Manning, who I reported yesterday is very interested in finding a strong relationship with his next team, got an ample opportunity to bond with anyone representing Miami?

Obviously, I am on the outside looking in. The Dolphins continue to believe they are in the game. They continue to wait on a final nod of approval or dismissive hand gesture to know how to proceed next. And for all we know, details of their visit with Manning included the free agent quarterback hugging every Miami rep and promising to sign as soon as he dispensed with one last visit.

But I doubt it. And it just seems from my point of view that even if the Dolphins are in this horse race, they are aboard a nag trailing the field. That's how I see it. That is increasingly how fans that email me, call my radio show and follow me on twitter view it.

How is it the Dolphins apparently haven't seen this?

Today, by the way, feels like a big day to me on the Manning front. My gut is we'll see some sort of indication from the Manning camp by tonight which teams are seriously, seriously in the running for the player. ESPN has reported every team that has interviewed Manning is in the running.

But eventually this is going to begin getting whittled. Arizona's deadline for paying quarterback Kevin Kolb a $7 million bonus. The Dolphins cannot continue to sit idle while next QB possibility Matt Flynn visits with Seattle. And one assumes the Titans, talking to several other free agents, also need indication which way this will turn.

So the end of the great courting of Peyton Manning seems on the horizon.

By the way, on another topic, Kendall Langford is scheduled to visit the Cincinnati Bengals today.

I will be happy if there is actually a QB competition for a change. That would make me happy. Yes...I would have loved it if they could have been in position to get Luck or RG3, but that didn't happen.

The next best thing the Phins can do at this point is to have a wide open competiotion for the starting job until that franchise QB is found. Personally, I don't care who it is, as long as there is a legitimate competition.

BREAKING NEWS:

Davon Bess has cut off his dreads!!!

Yeah, I wish there was something more to report too.

(pssssst ,,it's "short sighted") and I was talking about your post that blamed Ireland fully for players not developing. Not his job to develop. I thought that was the short sighted part because you ignored the big picture. Had nothing to do with a 17 years of no qb, I was referring to ur Ireland debate exclusively.

All indications are right now that Peyton is narrowing down the decision to Broncos/Titans.

I think he may go with the Titans.

Can we please just move on now?

Oh man I hope so Northwest. I wanted them to move on when Manning made us fly to him. They should have told him to frick off.

While Ireland takes MOST of the heat here I think his grade is incomplete. He has done SOME good things but certainly does not grade an A. This will be a BIG off season for him. On the other hand I do believe Ross has so far done a HORRIBLE job as an owner. While you can argue his intentions where good, he has mis-managed every opportunity to the point of embarrasing the franchise. From the celebrety owners to the orange carpet and club Liv to Harbough,Fisher and Manning. So far with out a doubt his grade is an F.

Hopefully Bess cutting off his dreads will make him a lil faster in the open field

I would not be scared is the Pats get LaRon Landry. Though the guy is a Mr. Olympia (body-wise), he's injury prone (and rumors in DC are that he's juicing, or else how do you account for the amount of muscle he's put on these last few years). I don't see him lasting too much longer. Doubt he ever finishes a whole Season again.

If we're not seriously in the running it would be a nice professional curtesy for Manning to let us know that up front so we can move on. I'm sure he is well aware of the process.

I wonder how long it will take Philbin to think. "Oh My God What Have I Done!! I Left The Packers For This!!"

Ron Landry is a perfect example and walking proof that NFL players today are BIG time into some sort of steroids. No wonder the NFLPA will not agree to testing! 50% of the players would be suspended.

We re signed Steve Slaton!! PARTY!!!

The real big fish in the Fins free agency is Eric Winston. The AFC east is getting defensive so I would do what I have to just sign this guy, Manning or not. We can also just focus on the Dline and WR in the draft. Thought we could do better than Solia if we were going to a 4-3 by drafting some Dlinemen there but I have no complaints. I'll reserve my opinion on Flynn if we do pick him up in free agency. Just saying though, he could be the least expensive free agent we sign, I would sign him to an incentive laden contract.

Slaton was responsible for our first win and several others thereafter. Play him more.

I've been one of the most HARDCORE do or die fans for the last 30 Yrs. plus without argument really but will now will RANT!!!!

We trade Marshall for less than what we got him for 2 Yrs. ago!! We talk this game about Manning or moving up for a QB and our H.C. doesn't even get the meeting the Broncos or Arz. got but has to fly to Indy to meet for 6 hours with a guy who lives 45 minutes from our Davie facility. So to take Mando's dating corn ball analogy further we didn't even strike 1st base on our meeting and regardless minus some J.Blackmon type trade up we are all but done in the Peyton sweepstakes given he won't enter a Season with Bess or Hartline at #1.

I was NEVER 100% sold on the Manning deal but was 110% sold on Flynn not being the answer either!! Nobody has bothered I believe in analyzing the fact that Flynn didn't even start the SEC Conf. Champ game for LSU when they won their Natl. Title. He reminds me so much of another College great in Ken Dorsey who only lost twice in 3 Yrs. it makes me SICK, the difference being Dorsey for all his NOODLE Flynn like arm was a true leader at the U of M!!!

I would have dumped the VERY MEDIOCRE Dansby and his 11.5 Million before Marshall and I don't care about the incident regarding his wife because he only stopped the other woman from beating her if you read the facts and by the way the Cowboys didn't cut UM's COKE HEAD Irvin after the video of him buying an ounce of blow either and I believe Marshall to be every bit the same talent minus Aikman.

We are hamstrung with the worst and I repeat WORST owner who couldn't take a dump between his own shoes in Ross and his GM who must have some naked pics of him or something. This always a brides maid but NEVER a bride thing is to re-occuring for me at this point. I've HATED trades in the past but felt kicked in the gut by this one that tells me were back in FULL BLOWN rebuidling mode for the 4th time in 12 Yrs. I'M SICK AND TIRED AND BELIEVING THAY AS LONG AS ROSS OWNS THE TEAM WE WILL ABSOLUTELY SUCK, GOOD LUCK TO HIM IN HIS EMPTY STADIUM 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Craig, what possibly could make you think Weedon would be a good addition when we have Moore?

fin4life -- I agree with you on Dansby. Not worth 11.5M.

The stadium very well will be empty in 2012. The Dolphins do not have any marquee match-ups at home except the Patriots and Jets. Look for some blackouts this year.

I said earlier on this blog that i see Miami going for Tannehill at #8. You have to believe (not what the media says) that they know they aren't getting Manning because they don't have the cap space.

They haven't offered Flynn a contract and that is telling too. Offseason discussion between Ireland, Philbin and Sherman about potential qbs went like this

Ireland Peyton is our 1st choice, then asks Philbin what do you think of your boy Flynn

Philbin he's alright but not worth franchise money

Ireland ok Sherman what do you think of Tannehill

Sherman He knows the system and has great potential, let him sit behind Moore since we have him for 1 more year to get used to speed and play him next year.

Not one of you ignorant apes who were screaming like little girls last Friday evening that Manning would be signed with Dolphins by "end of weekend" or Monday has come forward to apologize to me for your ignorance. For shame!

I told you buffoons that it would not happen by Monday (if at all). The rest of the world does not exist to make you happy, little girls.

Here we are, Thursday is over, and still no Manning signing. As I told, very complicated contract negotiations have to occur. So far you little girls are off by 4 to 5 days (depending on if one measures from "before the end of the weekend" as most of you clueless regulars here were saying).

I think it's time for me to borrow a line from Pricemaster.

To clarify, I told you *IMMEDIATELY* upon the news of Peyton's release, last Friday early afternoon, that he would *NOT* be signed with the Dolphins by the end of the weekend or by Monday. Every single one of you little girls who are so hysterical here every day said the announcement would be made on Monday.

This proves you are sheeple who are fed your opinions by mainstream media.

I further explained *why* the signing would not be announced by Monday (4 days ago now). Very complex contractual negotiations to consider. New territory. Really wide range of possible ways to structure Manning's contract.

Not one of you has said "my bad" about your childish prediction that the signing of Manning by Miami would be announced Monday (4 days ago).

You are the same sheep who chanted for Orton before last season even began. Sheep!!!!

If you went to a Miami Dolphins preseason practice last year and booed our starting QB, you have forfeited your right to watch a Dolphins game ever again. That's how it would be if the world was fair.

And at a minimum you should mail Chad Henne a letter of apology.

You guys are flippin' sheep.

Now that I have established myself as the most credible person here, I will teach you sheep another thing:

* Manning will sign with Tennessee. This is beyond obvious to anyone who knows how to read between the lines. He has fallen in love with how Tennessee reminds him of his youth. Tennessee always has a monster defense, and if he manages to finish his career a Titan and win a Super Bowl there, they'll freakin' build a statute of him there the size of the statue of liberty and probably make him honorary governor of Tennessee. He also would not dhick Tebow over, as a member of the QB fraternity, even though Tebow is a Gator. Manning is a gentlemen and there is a certain respect there.

Mark my words. Manning will sign with Tennessee. It's storybook to finish his career there and it gives him as good a chance as any of the other options for winning another super bowl.

Another factor is Denver has Elway. That's their all time great. Miami has Marino. Tennessee does not have a similar QB hero. Manning goes to Tennessee, so he can have his statue built there.

If you don't understand what I have said and think Manning will sign with Denver or Miami, you are beyond help.

Also, I would like to apologize for being so harsh with you sheep. I need to control myself. Me debating you guys in here is like Albert Einstein discussing science with Mike Tyson or a child or an ape. Or like Mike Tyson fighting Justin Bieber in a boxing match. Totally mismatched contest that is not fair. So I apologize. Just read the substance of my posts if you want to learn something, such as the fact that Manning will sign with Tennessee.

Stop relying on mainstream media for "news." Both CNN and Fox News are equally ridiculous. Read. Educate yourself. www.fromthewilderness.com

Hey Derek4Dolphins
You are ill advised if you think Matt Moore never played in a West Coast Offense. It's obvious you didn't look into his whole career. He played in a WCO in High School and set Cailf State records and won Championships doing so. He also played Free Safety so he knows the defensive side of what he can do against it. If anybody is going to run it right it will be Matt Moore not Flynn. Flynn hasn't learn the system completely yet. Flynn can't even get out of his own way little lone a 300 lb linemen.

@Craig M, since you jumped in and all. So what is the plan? Don't pretend to be inside IRELAND'S head without coming correct with IRELAND'S plan.

If you say "I don't know" then please don't jump in again. Not until you know.

What I know is this team has regressed under Ireland's draft guru status.

We can't even be certain if they started rebuilding last year or this year.

WE CAN'T EVEN BE CERTAIN ABOUT THAT!

Bottom line, investors come before fans. The ORG is on lockdown. The only reason to go on lockdown is to keep the fans STUPID AND IGNORANT.

Even though I talk crap bout our team and franchise,... I'm usually still optimistic and hopeful
That our front office will get this thing right.... NOW?,... They sure are making it hard for me to do so.... Every year it's " wait til next draft" or "wait til next off-season"..... The front office can't be this damn clueless!!.... You think Ross would've learned his lesson after being held hostage by Fisher.... THEN,...Its hard to be hopeful bout the draft cause we have an idiot GM pulling the trigger on bums!...... Misi, Rashad Jones, Pat White, Jerry,.. Etc.... Lord Bless Our Souls....
