Is Manning really that into the Dolphins?

I've dated in my life. I know what it looks like when someone is really into me ... and I know what it looks like when someone really isn't that into me. (Insert jokes in comments section).

Anyway, free agency is a little like dating. You wine. You dine. You spend money. You chase. It is a date minus the flowers or candy. And so far, Peyton Manning has been on four dates in the last week since his release from the Indianapolis Colts.

He dated Denver. He dated Arizona. He dated Miami. And he dated Tennessee.

My issue?

He dated Denver in Denver over a two-day span. He dated Arizona in Arizona over a two-day span. He dated Tennessee in Nashville over a 9-hour span.

The Dolphins? They had to go to him. They got only five hours.

Does that sound like the Dolphins got equal treatment? Does it sound like Manning, who I reported yesterday is very interested in finding a strong relationship with his next team, got an ample opportunity to bond with anyone representing Miami?

Obviously, I am on the outside looking in. The Dolphins continue to believe they are in the game. They continue to wait on a final nod of approval or dismissive hand gesture to know how to proceed next. And for all we know, details of their visit with Manning included the free agent quarterback hugging every Miami rep and promising to sign as soon as he dispensed with one last visit.

But I doubt it. And it just seems from my point of view that even if the Dolphins are in this horse race, they are aboard a nag trailing the field. That's how I see it. That is increasingly how fans that email me, call my radio show and follow me on twitter view it.

How is it the Dolphins apparently haven't seen this?

Today, by the way, feels like a big day to me on the Manning front. My gut is we'll see some sort of indication from the Manning camp by tonight which teams are seriously, seriously in the running for the player. ESPN has reported every team that has interviewed Manning is in the running.

But eventually this is going to begin getting whittled. Arizona's deadline for paying quarterback Kevin Kolb a $7 million bonus. The Dolphins cannot continue to sit idle while next QB possibility Matt Flynn visits with Seattle. And one assumes the Titans, talking to several other free agents, also need indication which way this will turn.

So the end of the great courting of Peyton Manning seems on the horizon.

By the way, on another topic, Kendall Langford is scheduled to visit the Cincinnati Bengals today.

Yea......just make sure the old backup isn't McNabb

Derek, you omit the fact that Flynn's only 2 games of exp comes on a completely different team, 100 percent different players, and was surrounded by one of the most high powered offenses in the league. He wouldn't be bringing any of that with him. Their is plenty of time for any QB to learn the system, these guys are not that dumb.

Posted by: Alfafa

Alfafa...... I agree with you. Matty Moore will have an opportunity to learn the offense as well.

Here is the thing, Alfafa... Flynn KNOWS IT. It is clear that Flynn is not going to get the Superman cash that many had him getting... the reason for that is exactly what you said. But also believe this... Flynn may have two games in Reg Season and about 375 Snaps in PreSeason over the 4 years span... But He also had 4 years sitting in preparation rooms with those people you say are so much better then us....

Let me remind you Miami Beat Green Bay the year they won the Superbowl.... Yes, Green bay had injuries... But Miami NEVER, EVER gets that pass so I never give it...

Regardless of the familiarity that has brad so much contempt here in Miami, many believe Miami to be a few pieces away from contention. I believe that also.

"NO WAY"... some may say..... Remember this... At Mid Season last year, ESPN and NFL channel pretty much had Tom Coughlin fired from The Giants. They had a miserable off season, they were losing, and things were not good.... They then got hot behind a kick azzz Defense with a great line and won a SB...

NEVER... EVER believe we are out of it.... Put a QB who knows Philbin and his system in the game and Miami will compete... the draft will bring much needed help... Philbin will get this team straightened out fast.

yeah thomas should be great in the 3 games he plays. and gates was a huge waste of a pick. better draft better this year

I hope Manning goes to Arizona. I want to see Elway have to kiss up to Tebow. That is a PR nightmare waiting to happen. Denver has no where to turn but to Tebow.

Armando spare us from your super gay lifestyle choices. As far as Manning, he is turning into Ms. Manning I think you, Peyton and Brett Farve should get a room together and have a party.

Maybe they both will be really into you this time. LOL

Just because Peyton only spent 5 hours with the Fins does not mean we are in last place.
...I see the opposite, in his mind he already chose Miami and only needed more time at the other facilities to see if they were more worthy than Miami.

Note: I sometimes drink in the morning to start my day

i think the sad reality here is no other team in the nfl wants flynn. so he will sign here at some point and we will waste a ton of cash.

elway doesnt have to kiss up to garbage tebow. id tell tebow to kiss my hof ass and cut tebow. guy is awful

IF we miss on Manning, and IF we sign Flynn, there is still the chance that Moore gets a legit chance to outplay Flynn in camp.

Just saying, If reports are true about Flynn's arm strength and Moore 'out guns' him in camp, you never know...the cream always rises to the top.

I am done with Manning already. I mean really all this hype for a guy that might be "scrambled eggs" after the first hit, really. Let the Titans have him and go about finding ourselves the long term solution to our QB problem. Philbin has developed QB's in the past so let him do what you hired him for already. Now that there is no Alpha receiver here there is no way that Manning is coming here, he is chasing a ring and is trying to pick the best spot, even though that is impossible to gauge each year (remember Philly last year?). We need guys that buy into the system and a QB that is developed in that system not a plug and play guy that could be gone in week 1 and then what?? Miami move on and dump Manning before he leaves you at the alter looking like an idiot.

Somehow, this is what I fear the draft will go like this year for Miami whether or not we sign Manning/Flynn...

Round 1: Offensive lineman
Round 2: Defensive end
Round 3 (2 picks): Defensive tackle, safety
Round 4: Wide Receiver
Round 5: Offensive lineman
Round 6: Quarterback
Round 7: Defensive tackle

then why sign flynn for a ton of cash nh if moore can beat him out. cause moore isnt good so flynn must noit be either

I realize we are in the Peyton chase still, but until I see Flynn get some love from our staff, I'm inclined to believe they just may be faking interest to get some other team to sign him. Peyton is not coming here, so let's see how fast and hard they go after Flynn. That will speak volumes. They don't need to interview him or work him out because Philbin knows everything he needs to, so let's see.

I admit I am biased against bringing in Flynn, I don't see him as a franchise QB for anybody ever.

I agree we need to save face.........

If (when) Manning picks one of the other teams, stupid ESPN headlines will be. "Miami adds to their string of failure attempts after missing on Harbaugh and Fisher, they have now also missed on Manning"

Make the bold move first.....he'll be out of the league soon anyway

For all you Ireland haters, you gotta give him credit when he gets it right, and resigning Soliai is a great move at a decent price.
Now if we can just get Winston to play RT at a hometown discount, things are really looking up.

It might be fun to get Manning but the odds are certainly against it. that we didn't have a dog and pony show has nothing to do with it. Philbin may have asked Manning if they could avoid all the BS and just meet in Indy, mano a mano. Nothing wrong with that.

I don't know for sure if Flynn is the answer. If he is brought in to compete fairly with Moore then he might be the guy. I like Moore. He isn't Tom Brady but he is a good player. Kinda reminds me of Eli Manning. A lot of the problems on offense last year weren't just his. Consider that we had a couple of turnstiles on the line and that seriously affects what you can do. We also had Sparano. Not a great offensive mind. Very tentative and didn't figure out he was burning up his players during the week until game 8.
If Philbin is offensively minded and his coaches feel the same way, we will win some games late in the 4th quarter. I also want to see an aggressive defense.

Home confirmed over 2 months ago that

"MVP QB Peyton Manning WILL be a Miami Dolphin in 2012"

Mike Pouncey is still on the team, correct?

Wait until next year to get a QB? Are you freaking nuts? Isn't that repeating the same damned thing that has been going on, year after year after year; when will we freaking learn?

Who gives a toss about the OL or some defensive back, because if you can't score you can't win and there are no Playmakers on the team.

Moore is a backup, Flynn is a backup, my god, when will we actually be proactive on the most important position on the team?

Someone is always saying that there is a better batch of QBs coming out next year, but no one, NO ONE, can guarantee that that the Dolphins would be in position to get one of those "better" QBs and the same people who are saying to skip that position this year are the same people who will be bemoaning the idea of giving up picks to move up.

Home also said Peyton would be a Dolphin on Tuesday March 13th...my calendar says Thursday March 15th, so Where's Peyton?

So if you start seeing the pieces come together, it is obvious the dolphins know they aren't getting Manning because of thier resignning Solai and Marshall.

They aren't too excited about Flynn since the only ones who have pumped him up as going to Miami is the media but he hasn't been offered a contract.

Miami may have had Tannehill as they target after Manning contrary to what the media people have said all along, remember they only say anything to generate buzz (readers).

Out of all the teams in manning sweepstakes Miami IMO has the best overall roster.

I disagree bro! I look at it as I'm not really interested in Miami but I do have a condo down there and don't want to get booed everytime I attend a Miami Heat while staying at his condo. Miami was the ultimate out of courtesy visit or should I say invitation because after all Miami and Philbin did have to go see him. Look at Tennessee for example, he played them twice a year for his entire career he has an obvious road game there every year and he played 4 years of college ball there. He knows the state and facility more then anywhere. If there was one team he didn't have to go visit it was Tennessee. He played a Super Bowl in Miami and a handful of games just as he did with Denver yet Miami got the grand invitation to be the only team not lay out a proposal at home.

Peyton does make players better and he has his whole career but I don't think even he could make chicken salad out of this chicken shTT Miami has on offense.

I am irked by Peyton in that he is playing the Favre card in acting like he hates the attention when it's obvious he is loving it. He is back on the map after taking a backseat to Rodgers, Brady, Brees and eveh Eli this past season. Peyton had become an out of sight out of mind player and he is going about it by stringing along 2 to 3 teams at this point. Peyton is a football junkie and knows AZ dilema with Kolb and knows Miami has Flynn on the back burner yet he strings them along as if he is in such a difficult spot that he doesn't know what to do with himself.

Peyton is on my personal favorite's list with Marino, Favre and Brees but he is wearing on me at this point because out of the 4 teams there is know way he looks at it as they are all on equal grounds he has to have a short list of 2 or even 1 at this point yet he wants that attention because little brother has taken his shine and now has 2 middle fingers with rings on them to hold up to Peyton on holidays while Peyton is giving his 1 middle finger with a ring to Miami and AZ and probably one of the other 2 finalists.

I for one will not watch Peyton's press conference as he signs elsewhere and sits coy and tight lipped like he had every team even and made up his mind at the last second. He knows where he is going and loves the attention no matter how classy he is.

However Home,

Did u see Peyton in the Tennessee Volunteer orange colored jersey he proudly displayed at the Titans interview

Home's alter ego

This draft class is pretty deep with receivers, so losing Brandon Marshall probably isn't as big a deal as some think. Going younger, faster, cheaper, and with a better attitude is probably a good move, especially since he may be riding the bench due to punching a lady in the face. And, it was her birthday!

Please don't go after Alex Smith or Kolb as an answer to our QB problem! Because they aren't! If we don't get Manning and don't really want Flynn, use the draft for a quarterback!

The way I see it, Ireland's BIGGEST problem is that he doesn't know when to pull the trigger on things. He wants to wait too long to make a decision. He looks for a deal and looks for a deal until the fire sale is over and has to take leftovers and make do. That may be the reason that we've consistently been an 8-8/7-9 kinda team. He's great finding talent in the 4th round of the draft on, but not so good in rounds 1 through 3. And, his free agent picks are about half & half; some good, some bad, and some that stay for a bit, then leave. I know it's a gamble, but while he's playing roulette everyone else is playing poker!

Miami likely wouldn't have traded away Brandon Marshall so suddenly without a wink from Peyton. Ross and Ireland might actually get their guy this time.

don't forget to mention that miami never had the cap space to sign him anyway.

Proven time and again football is a business and there is no player loyalty nor team loyalty to a player (see Indianapolis and Peyton). He will sign to the highest bidder with the best chance to succeed i.e. Titans or Denver.

Makes sense to me

me too

How do u like those apples?

(And he's a little bit of a self-centered prima donna).

Guys, I do not agree with dusty often it seems.

But I think some of you are missing the point.

I am not against Flynn coming here... I am against paying him 50 million, or a large contract...

It is just an opinion, so take it for what it is worth. But I can not see a huge upgrade over Moore that says, hey pay the guy 50 million, or whatever the large number is.

Seatlle is having him visit, NOW, after Henne signed with Jacksonville. They are going to bring Flynn in for the visit NOW. Prior to that they were not booking the visit and showed mild interest. Henne was on their list to meet first... I think that says a little bit about how other teams view Flynn.

Like I said in the past, Philbin knows Flynn well, he has not run out and signed the guy yet, and he would be up Ross's and Ireleands Arse if he thought "he was the guy". Don't ya think?

Again, just my opinion.

Ok New World order slaves,

Home's alter ego will tell u how much Peyton does not want to play with Florida Gator Pouncey or this Gator Day appreciation team

Danny Wuerffel led the Florida Gators to the national title in 1996 beating Peyton Manning and the orange shirted Tenneesse Volunteers, and also won the Heisman Trophy that season. He set an SEC record with 114 career touchdown passes.

The Dolphins know Manning will not sign here the way he conducted the meetings with Philbin flying to Indy to meet him was basically saying I will talk to you only to be nice now go away.

also poizen. if flynn signs out west he will compete* w/ jaxson for the qb spot.
at camp davie he will be given* the qb spot.
that's what sux. moore would beat him out w/ a neutral play book.imfo

Peyton Manning LOST three times in his college career to the Florida Gators. Manning lost in the SEC Championship Game to the Florida Gators 33–20

Home's alter ego says No Way Peyton signs w Florida and not w Tennessee

Expect Peyton to rejoin Tennessee and him and his Tennessee wife to settle down in Tennesse

"awe shucks, Home!"

Our chances of getting Peyton were probably pretty legit up until yesterday when we traded Marshall. Im sure Peyton isnt salivating about the chance of throwing passes to #1 wr Brian Hartline and #2 wr Devonne Bess. He's probably never even heard of the other wr's on our roster.

Too bad Peyton will have already made his decision before we have chance to draft a wr. The timing of the Brandon Marshall trade was horrendous considering the timeline of the Manning decision.

MVP QB Peyton Manning WILL be a Miami Dolphin in 2012"

Flynn will not get anywhere near a $50 M contract. In FA in order to drive up the price you need SEVERAL interest and Flynn has Seattle and Miami and that's it. The only other possible suitor was Cleveland and they aren't in which is a good thing for Miami. Like I said before if Philbin thinks he can win with the guy he has been grooming for 4 years then I am all in.

Look at Peyton Manning right now he pretends it's not about money but it is because why else do you hold 4 teams hostage? Because it drives the price WAY UP! Peyton is as classy as they come but this is a business and he would be a fool to not get the most money he can combined with the best situation. So bet your azzz Peyton knows where he is going but is holding out to make sure them $$$$ signs are just right.

Flynn isn't on that level and isn't in store for a massive pay day or Kolb like deal. He will get low end starters money.

Take Laurent Robinson off of the fa wr list. He just resigned with Dallas.

WHo cares about Manning, he's donw with

Flynn knows the dilemma he is in right now. He knows the Fins are a final four team for Manning sweepstakes.
If he really wants a reunion with Philbin in Miami he'll wait it out.
Seattle, who the heck wants to play in Seattle? Nice city and all, but Flynn is from the south and wants to play for Philbin in Miami.

Manning is NOT bringing his talents to South Beach and he'll make that announcement in the next 24 hours as a courtesy to Arizona and the Kolb situation.

By that time Flynn will have finished his one and only meeting with Seattle. On Sa.t night we will signed Flynn for HALF of what his agent is asking.

Home's alter ego

Peyton signs w Tennessee, his alumni

Peyton lost 3 times in college to the Florida Gators including the Championship game

No Way Peyton goes turncoat on Tennessee

What do u think of that me, Home?

Dusty, why do you insist on being wrong on every single issue? Do you try to do that?

Tebow took over at 1-5 and took his team to the playoffs. He wins.

Gates, even last year, had almost 900 return yards including a 77 yarder.

When he's used in a good offense this year, he will blossom.

You will see, whether you want to accept reality or not.

Thomas had a hammy all year. It happens. He's a beast and I would not expect him to be injured every year. He had 2 straight 100 yard games as a rookie, with a hammy.

The success of the team will depend on how good the coaching is. The players are interchangeable. It's a chess match between the coaches.

I Must Be Crazy?

I Must Be Nuts!

Its pretty much a given he aint coming to miami. If he was we would have already signed wayne and or jackson after letting go of marshall but it didnt happen. It was a separate bonehead move.

I think it will be the Titans. Hes closer to home with a team that has a focus on winning and the personnel to do so. Miami is a ship without a captain. The team has no real direction. They have a gag order on information to the fans the ultimately care nothing about accept their ticket money.

Peyton was 0-4 vs Gators.

why does everybody want Flynn? he played in 2 games. Does Philbin really want him? i don't know but i think Tannehill will be a better QB. i hope he is still there ay pick 8.

Home Facts:

The Florida–Tennessee football rivalry, sometimes called the Third Saturday in September, is an American college football rivalry game played annually by the Florida Gators football team of the University of Florida and the Tennessee Volunteers football team of the University of Tennessee. The Gators and Volunteers first met on the gridiron in 1916, and have competed in the same conference since Florida joined the now-defunct Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1912. However, a true rivalry has developed only relatively recently due to infrequent match-ups in past decades; in the first seventy-six years (1916–1991), the two teams met just twenty-one times.

This changed in 1992, when the Southeastern Conference (SEC) expanded to twelve universities and split into two divisions. Florida and Tennessee were both placed in the SEC's Eastern Division, and have met annually on the football field since 1992. The rivalry quickly blossomed in intensity and importance, as both squads were perennial championship contenders throughout the 1990s. The games' national implications diminished in the 2000s, as first Florida and then Tennessee suffered through sub-par seasons. However, the intensity of each meeting still remains one of the highest in college football.

MM - you are correct. Football is a chess match between coaches and the better coaches usually win.
The player talent level gap is pretty thin for a majority of positions and the coach with the best strategy wins.
Sparano lacked the genius to outsmart the other 31 coaches and his lack of talent was obvious.

Philbin is a SMART guy and I'm excited to get this thing underway.

...only concern, I also thought Cam Cameron was a smart guy.

I posted yesterday Miami created major collateral damage to Flynn's ability to get a huge contract with the Manning chase. With Philbin in house, teams would use Miami's volume of interest in Flynn to gauge his market value. Even Miami's interest in Flynn is a bit lukewarm.

Other teams are seeing this as Philbin himself isnt billing Flynn as the next great thing since sliced bread. Flynn now seems to be more like the pad that the little square of butter comes on.

Hopefully we sign Winston today. We're officially (as soon as Manning says no) in rebuild mode. That's fine, if that's what it is (it's really the BEST way to form a team). Just no one get excited about this year. We'll need 3 years to get everyone necessary for a WC offense (average). Not saying we can't compete next year or in 2 years, just saying to get it to full potential.

So, people, start looking at shoring up the defense (best thing they can do is get the secondary functional). Take care of the line. And hopefully next year we'll worry about scoring points.

Dusty, Tebow also ran for almost 700 yards. He might have a short career, but thus far he was not injured and you simply have to add that to his stats.

4,000 yards is a great QB season. 3,000 is decent. Tebow got 25% of that running, and that counts.

He does not throw INTs. He gets to the endzone. He will only get better.

He makes his teammates (thugs like Marshall) play harder and stay in line, because his winning attitude rubs off on them.

In life, in general, Tebow is a total winner and you, an annoying presence on this website, are a total loser. Fact.

BTW I'm a loser compared to Tebow too, but at least I give credit where credit is due.

Also, at worst they can force Tebow to play FB or HB, and he'd do it with a good attitude. Dude is an athlete, at a minimum, and an asset to have on any team.

I predict Tebow will eventually be forced to play a FB/TE type role and even though he'll be disappointed, he'll put his heart into it, bulk up even more, and be a total beast.

What Tebow does is help his team WIN, period.

I swear that if I were Tebow, I would *want* to switch to RB. He loves to pound people. He's a beast. He would no longer face constant criticism that he's not good enough. It would be fun, I would think. He could play the new Clay type TE/FB and end up with 1,200 yard seasons -- 500 rushing, 700 receiving, and 16 TDs and help his team win.

disagree mm, tebow is a horrible qb
