Manning decision to Denver still affects Dolphins

Several media outlets are reporting that Peyton Manning has picked the Denver Broncos as his new team and is in negotiations with the team to become the quarterback. That has created a domino effect that reaches the Dolphins.

Because Manning did not pick the San Francisco 49'ers, it seems to open up the possibility of a return to San Francisco for Alex Smith. And that would mean the player who visited the Dolphins on Sunday would be out of the running to continue his career in Miami.

This is not a 100 percent certainty as, frankly, Smith still is a free agent and has the right to negotiate with any team he wishes. But, as I reported this morning, Smith had told various NFL sources and had let the Dolphins know his first choice was to return to the Niners if Manning didn't pick that team.

We're not out of the wood yet, however.

As Manning is going to Denver, barring a snag in contract talks, that effectively ends Tim Tebow's time with that team. And, of course, that makes the Dolphins a possible landing spot for him.

Tebow, a University of Florida alumnus, has a huge following in South Florida. He did lead the Broncos to the playoffs and even a playoff victory over Pittsburgh. And he would definitely sell tickets for the Dolphins.

My guess is the football side of the organization would not be thrilled with the idea of Tebow because he is definitely not a classic West Coast offense quarterback. But ownership has recently been in charge of some football decision in Miami so I cannot discount it until, well, the Dolphins either say it isn't a possibility or show it isn't one.

Beyond that, where does this leave the Dolphins?

More and more it is looking like this team is going to be drafting a quarterback and rolling into training camp with Matt Moore as the presumed starter.

I suppose David Garrard is a veteran backup option that can be added to Moore plus a rookie draft pick as well.

As for a surprise bombshell ... we'll see.

Sure, i get it.
Personally i trust Philbin NOT Sherman. Sherman has proven nothing.
Lost his job at A&M, WITH said QB, and Texas sized talent. So record isn't shiny to start.
But I'm not going to root against Tannehill, or burn my jersey if he's drafted. I just don' see a project (understand he was still learning the position as a Senior - had trouble reading college D's) as our best bet without a stud ol' vet QB to watch and learn from.

He just looks and sounds like every over-hyped QB prospect who has a a nice arm, but needs teachin' in the head to me. Nothing personal to him, or you.

And for gosh sakes PLEASE don't trade up to get him. Losing out because he fails is one thing - giving up value to do so is horrific.

I've trusted Philbin this far. Hope he has firm grip on his draft.

It would be worth Tebow coming to Miami just to cause all you idiots promising not to watch another game and to leave the Fins to follow through on your promise.

Except he'll win games and you'll still watch.

JS - I've not watched as much tape on Tannehill as you so I'll defer to you on his long term prospects as a starting QB in the NFL. I only watched the one game vs. Baylor and he did look good.
That's why Ireland is making the big bucks!

As I told you 7 weeks ago, the starting QB of your Miami Football Dolphins for 2012 is Matt Moore.

Agreed europe. And to Joe Schmoe, wouldn't call myself an optimist, more of laughing to keep from crying type of guy. Also, I was dealing with some other problems, and really needed this to be a "happy" outlet for me lately.

To Ohio (from last blog, but relevant here), like europe, I want a QB drafted. PERIOD! That's what I wanted last year, year after last, etc. Like clockwork, I said "how high" when Manning said "Jump," and I'm embarrassed with myself.

I in NO WAY want Tebow, but he's a winner, and he came here and won, even doing it his way, I wouldn't shed a tear.

MY END GOAL IS SIMPLE, I WANT TO WIN! I don't care how, whether we cheat to do it, if we have 53 women on the team, doesn't matter. JUST WIN (is my motto). Whatever (or whomever) makes that happen is exactly the people I want here.

Armando is a religious nut, so little wonder he would share the Tebow fascination.

He needs to be in Jacksonville. He'll have all those rednecks doing hosannas in their seats while the team itself is going 4-12.

..Sorry guys..Nobody has access to "tape" It would be nice, and a lot of fun. We get You tube vids, highlight reels, maybe a recored game or 2 with limited camera views..But none of get to watch tape. A big difference.

Jaison is stupid.

The Quarterback position is WAY overrated. WILDCAT BABY 24/7 !!!!!

Darryl, your posts are way too long. And they are riddled with inaccuracies.

you also told us henne would be franchised. see how easy that was to make you look like a jackoff? get lost you dope!

Two #1's to Denver for Tebow!

Sick of seeing all the people saying "if they do this, then that will be last straw... I will burn my gear and cheer for another team" someone even said it makes them want to cheer for the Patriots...yuck

That's cool with me, but DO NOT come back when we are good again. Hate "fans" that leave when it's tough and come back to enjoy when they're contenders.......fake

I'm disgruntled, not happy, upset at decisions too, don't get me wrong.

but win, lose or tie.....DOLPHINS TILL I DIE!

If the Fins get Tebow he would counterbalance Satan (Ireland) so I will not have to intervene.

take a look at next year's potential crop, and tell me you like what you see.

2nd rated L. Jones?
3rd rated Geno Smith?

We aren't getting Barkley unless we seriously stink this year. Who knows? But we did fail at stinking ENOUGH this year.

No need to defer to me. I'm just a schmuck. Watch your own film. Just don't trust those loser draftniks. They're wrong as much as we are and get paid for it.

Have you seen what surrounds the Giant's stadium? The team who just won the SB. Please stop. The last thing a professional FB player cares about is what is next door to the stadium he spends a total of 56 hours per year at (assiming no home playoff game).

Henne *should* have been franchised. Quite clearly I was correct about that. He's a starting QB who will win a playoff game before we do, perhaps even our Bucs' Steve Young.

As much as love the Dolphins and have followed them since I was a kid, it seems like the party is about over.

Ross has got to be the worst owner currently in the NFL. Since his only interest is celebrity, money and an event I am very confident he will be instructing Ireland to trade for Tebow. He has probably been hoping Denver would sign Manning as soon as he was told the Dolphins were out.

Elway must be licking his chops that not only will he get Manning but he will get out of the Tebowmania crap looking fantastic having a real QB who can get wins. Manning at 75% is better then Tebow. I was never a huge Elway fan as I was all about Marino, but I give major credit and props to Elway for what he has done getting Manning and what he is about to do in getting rid of Tebow.

Ireland seems to have no clue on what to do or is only the puppet for Ross. As a GM and the man who is supposed to be in charge of the football team you'd think he would be able to persuade and explain why things are or are not good football moves. He appears to either not know himself or Ross is really running things, not Ireland.

Since nobody seems to want to play for this owner/GM combination the only hope is to boycott the team. No games, no shirts, no jerseys, etc. Make Ross suffer enough that he sells to a person intersted in winning football games not making a specticle or circus type atmosphere.

For me boycotting the team I love will be very hard but much easier if Tebow is signed to be the QB. I get he is a good person however I am not a fan of his game. I do not want to be rooting for a circus of Tebowmaniacs and I do not want to be around when it all crashes down and the Tebow fans go nuts.

If Tebow becomes a Dolphin my status as a Dolphin Fan goes on hiatus until he is gone.

Will the Dolphins ever matter again? How much worse is it going to get?

It is beyond obvious that Henne has not been the problem the last 3 years. You guys can't have it both ways.

See, e.g., Wes Welker.

Tim Tebow would be a great addition to the Dolphins. However you look at it, there's no denying he has the "it" factor. He's willing to put in the work to make himself a successful QB. He'll do it. Plus we need his confidence and attitude to help turn this franchise around. We need to grab this opportunity.

Obviously no one has way cool "tape" to watch. But you can find enough to make a fair opinion on with youtube usually. There are other sites too.

Maorii, I never claimed to know more about your city but I'm a grown ass man and work for my money. If I decide to spend my disposable income on strippers and late night massages and gambling, that's my decision and nobody else's. Got it? Its my money and I spend it how I like.

#fireross http://www.change.org/petitions/owner-miami-dolphins-sell-the-miami-dolphins

All the things that caused Denver to want to upgrade from Tebow are the same things that make him a perfect fit for the Dolphins.

Ireland and Ross make me look sane! See you Fins!

Tebow does have the "it" factor. Especially if you add a "sh".

Ohio Dolfan,

I was just kidding about the time warp thing. I don't really have a Mr. Fusion or even a flux capacitor.

I am a faithful dolfan who would like to see the fins draft a future QB, among other things.

Please dont use our 8th pick on Tannehill. I just dont see what all the rave is about him . I think he is a Moore clone. I would rather draft some one of value with that pick and there is a lot of options, Rec, Pass rusher, I would rather go with Weeden in the later rounds. and fill in the other holes , and there are a lot of them.Or hopefully trade down to pick up another 2nd.

This maorii guy is spot on regarding the stadium. If it was built in an area that provides more commercial opportunities, then surely a Super Bowl or two would have been awarded to Miami. It's just unfortunate that the stadium is considered to be such an absolute dump unworthy of hosting a Super Bowl. Sigh..

3 way trade...Denver gets a 4th from Jax and a 4th or 5th from miami. Jax get Tebow we get Blain Gabert.

I agree DC, I just want to see the Dolphins win. Yes I am probably luckier than most here, I witnessed our SB runs. But, that does not mean Im not waiting for another run of SB's. Im not a Tebow fan, however he does win. Im not sure how he does it sometimes, but winning and Tebow go hand in hand. I do not think he is a pure QB, whatever that means. But winning is the game. If we could land him for the 3 round pick we picked up from the Bears. Im all in..

Okay, I will now explain something that most of you will not understand, because I'll be describing *you*.

Miami, the city, is filled with trash. One characteristic of the fan I am about to describe is that you are also a UM Canes "fan." You did not attend or earn a degree from the University of Miami, mind you; no, you're a "fan" of that local college team. Most of you have no college degree, from any university.

You are in Miami because of the Miami flashy lifestyle. You drive a BMW and have a nice home, but you're $500,000 in debt. You are a "real estate professional" or a stock broker or "financial advisor," but you're uneducated and know nothing about our our NWO government's fiat money actually works.

You will blame Obama (or the current president) when gas hits $5 and then $6 per gallon, which it inevitably will do because of peak oil. (You didn't understand that last statement.)

You don't want Tebow, because you don't understand that he's a *great* person, which you are not. This has nothing to do with Christianity, a 2,000 year old cult like Islam and Judaism that has brainwashed Tebow, like many his age, because he's a good person doing the best he can.

Tebow is a beast physical specimen and a winner. OF COURSE you want him on your team. He has such a good attitude that he will dive headlong into the task when he is eventually forced to play FB/TE hybrid. He will eventually be sat down by a good coach and told he can get 20 touches a game as a TE/FB. And he can still be a locker room leader. Don't have to play QB to be a locker room leader.

Tebow is a 250 pound beast physical specimen. Any wussy like Matt Moore or A.J. Feeley can throw the ball. It is a waste of Tebow's talent to put him at QB. A good coach will eventually him to agree. He can play FB and enjoy smashing people without having to feel guilty in the back of his mind every time he runs, trying to be the pocket passer he is not.

(and he can still be a backup QB option; he's proven he can do that. he threw for 316 yards in a playoff victory over the Steelers. I guess those of you who say he can't throw missed that one.)

Tebow is a winner, a 250 pound 23 year old athlete. Of course you want him on your team.

Most of you Miami UM Canes trash have failed to understand what I have just written.

We should have seriously tried to get RG3...

I feel another disappointing draft day coming. Then after a terrible draft we will hear all the excuses why we didnt draft who we needed.

Someone wants to draft this Weeden guy? He's already 27 or 28. He'll past his prime before he even enters it. Reference Chris Wenke, a Weeden clone.

Blog Fodder,

Sorry I didn't mean you, I knew you were kidding. I actually LOVED your post! It made me laugh out loud here at my desk at work! lol First thing that has made me smile all day with all the wonderful news!

Funny stuff man

THE ALL KNOWING TRUTH GIVER..must be a Gator fan

I saw how much Wash gave up to get RGIII and Miami was slotted two spots behind them. A Mike Ditka type draft approach is not intelligent.

Omar Kelly says it best (if you're looking at the PR nightmare the Dolphins are currently in):

"Then again, how can you turn around and prop Moore up as the team’s starter in 2012 after the franchise spent three months telling everyone he’s not good enough?"

Well, not really. But basically the only thing left to do is hope Cleveland passes on Tannehill and draft him at #8.

The fact is that bringing all of these QB's in (except for Manning...we had to go and chase him down cause he refused to come see us), reeks of:

That's why players are turning us down after using Miami to drive their price up.

We have become... "Those Desperate Dolphins"!!!

i don't want to think it, let alone say it but,.. but Tebow will be miami's QB in 2012, somebody shoot me. Ross has a huge P.R. problem and a dwindling fan base, he needs revenue, he will bring Tebow mania to south florida to sell tickets, this, in his mind is the easiest solution, ross considered tebow last year, this is tim's home town, he knows tebow fans will fill the stadium, he won't need to worry about waisting a top draft pick on a reciever, nor spend big money on one since Tebow only throws three passes a game, ross/ireland CONSISTANTLY made bad choices and this will be another, it's only logical.. desperate, sad and depressing, but is par for the course... the ONLY good and REAL option out there that exists, that would excite fans for this upcoming season is for miami to make a trade for RYAN MLLET, sign MIKE WALLACE and draft MICHAEL FLOYD. this would require some creativity from the ross camp, but it would pay HUGE dividends and SHOCK the football world... the fan base would experience a stunning positive emotional swing comparable to that of winning a superbowl in overtime, and would actually be looking forward to this up and coming season with high hopes and anticipation... sorry,.. i was typing in my sleep, it's just a dream.

now it's all making sense. ireland knew tebow was going to be the dolfans qb, and that's why he dispatched marshall to chicago, because with tebow, you don't need, or even want receivers. he can't throw anyhow. ... until miami gets a new gm, i'm done as a fins fan. this is not fun.

I think it's funny the stupid DOUCHBAGS think it's important to be "First" when responding in a blog. Grow up gentlemen. Have something intelligent to say about our team. No one cares if you're "FIRST".

If the Miami Dolphins trade for Tim Tebow and/or pay a dollar to David Gerrard, they will lose me as a fan. This team has been MY team since 1967. We are the laughing stock of the NFL right now. Players DON'T want to play here. It is truly a sad state of affairs.

One of which, I pray we can fight our way out of. Let's get a quarterback; shore up some weaknesses and get back to kicking some butt in the AFC East. Go Dolphins!

And the circus that Ross has created continues..

Go Team. Rah.

Now's about the time the front office offers Moore a contract extension, right?

I have no issue with the Phins drafting Tannehill at 8. If we were under the old CBA, I would take issue with it, but there is really only nominal risk with the new CBA. At some point, they have to take the plunge.

Last year, everybody had major concerns about Dalton who projected to a 2nd round pick....he turned out ok and in hindsight would have been perfectly good value for the Phins at 15.

The Dolphins just called me up to be the new QB....problem is i never played a day of football aside from in someones backyard. I dont think i will be signing with the Dolphins either.

Anyone who wants to jump off the Dolphin Bandwagon - Go Ahead- We don't need anymore fair weather fans and pretenders....a real Fan is a real Fan in the Good and Bad times. You can trace this current debacle back to Jimmy "the quitter" Johnson, Dave Wanstaedt, Bill "Half-a-job-then-leave" Parcells, and the icing on the Cake when ol' Jimmy threw out - The winningest Coach Don Shula and the Hall of Fame walk-in at first vote, Dan Marino. This thing Will turn around at some point. Maybe without Ross & Ireland I don't know.
GO FINS!!!!!

Jaccory Harris and Tommy Streeter to the Miami Dolphins.

Are you people stupid? Denver is looking to get a 5th or 6th round pick for Tebow and you morons want to offer multiple number 1's for a guy who can't throw. Tebow is marketing not a QB who can lead a team. Of course, maybe that is the plan... we got rid of our receivers knowing Tebow couldn't complete a pass anyway. Ross gets to sell out the stadium and make lots of jersey sales... right until the 8th game when the fans suddenly realized how dumb they were and the Dolphins are sitting at 0-8. You fools fall for the same quick fix and BS every time.

Or DC, we could spin it another way. Moore is motivated by all of this, and sets out to prove everyone wrong..At the end of next season he is offered a contract with starter money. Of course with another team. Ok, thats my post of negativity for the day.

I think everything has been said that could be said. I'll be back next month after Ireland screws up the 8th pick.

I will have a much easier time propping Moore up than I had propping Sparano up after he was declared not good enough.

I can't explain it, but that's where I'm at.

If you sign Mike Wallace you lose your first round pick and therefore can't draft Floyd. You can't give up a top-10 pick for a free agent that you also have to sign to a big contract. Doesn't make sense.

I don;t support ANY QB who isn't WORKING FOR THE FINS...

Is that really that hard to understand.....

let me make it simple for you...pay attention...

for the rest of the blog who aren't TROLLS...hanging on my every post...looking for the smallest of inconsistencies....it probably isn't....

Just read Broncos won't be asking much for Tebow. Uh oh, sounds like it's right up Irelands (the acorn hunter) alley.

How can someone write such a long post and say so little? Are you paid per word Giver, or just per post?
