Marino not recruiting, advising Manning unless asked

Dan Marino would love Peyton Manning to sign with the Miami Dolphins. Proof of that appeared on Marino's twitter page Thursday when the Hall of Famer tweeted, "Shout out to #18, Indy will never forget your legacy. Can't wait to see you back on the field doing what you do best."

Marino is a Manning fan. Marino thinks Manning would be a great wherever he lands, including Miami. But, you know, actually recruiting Manning to the Dolphins?

Probably not unsolicited.

“I probably wouldn’t do that unless he asks for some advice,” Marino said at a charity golf tournament today in Aventura. “And he has plenty of people that he’s working with to help him make the right decisions.”

Don't mistake that for ambivalence. Marino would have no problem pitching the Dolphins because he believes the team has possibilities.

"There’s great tradition there," he said. "We’ve had a couple off years but believe me, they’ll be back,” Marino said. “It’s a great franchise and they’ll get it turned around."

But truth be told, Marino said he thinks Manning would be good in Miami ... or Arizona ... or Denver ... or just about anywhere, really.

"I think he fits with anybody," Marino said. "He’s one of the best to ever play the game at that position. So wherever he ends up playing, if he’s healthy, which is going to be important to Peyton, I’m sure he wants to go out there and play at a high level. Wherever he plays, he’ll be a huge impact for that team."

Here is something a little interesting. On sportsbook.com they now have the dolphins at even odds of getting Manning and Cards are 2nd with +350.

Also tuesday before Manning's press conference they had the Dolphins at +3000 to win the 2013 Super Bowl, now they are at +1500. Thats a pretty big move.

NY--The practice bubble doesn't actually have a name. The whole 'Nick Saban' thing is Armando's attempt at humor...which, true to form is neither funny or relevant.

Anyway, no. It's not actually named for Nick Saban (who isn't dead last time I checked, by the way!)

Miami NEEDS Payton, maybe he´s done...
But, he´ll fill the stadium, sell jerseys, put the dolphins in the spotlight and allow the dolphins to use their draft picks in other areas...

Its a good bussiness, PLEASE GET HIM NOW!!!

SAGNEUL.......... YOU SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE A LOT OF KNOWLEDGE .TELL US WHAT DO YOU DO FOR WORK ?

Going by LV is not infallible, of course. But it gives you a good range of probabilities.

INCE MANNING GOES DOWN WITH INJURY ,THAT NECK INJRY THAT IS ....YOU ALL WILL CRY BIG TIME ......

ONCE MANNING GOES DOWN

Who is SAGNEUL? Somebody like Home?

sales why Aloco??... I live in Mx...
I dont know much but i know every year has a good qb in the draft, but a PM not all years are available...
I mean everybody screams for rg3, but next year barkley is gona be there... i just want to see my dear dolphins win!!!

It's fairly amazing how many people cannot spell Manning's name correctly. It's "P-E-Y-T-O-N," folks, with an "e." Not "Payton" like the former Bears running back.

No doubt the same people who are eternally confused by "lose" and "loose." Here's a hint: You can't "loose" a game.

Nitwits.

SO , YOU R A SALES MAN ?

WHAT DO YOU SELL ?

DREAMS ?

man im glad i dont live in miami, its gonna get ugly when manning signs with the chiefs. could be riots in miami

Where is little Amondo? I like him.

DUSTY///////////// MIAMI IS FULL OF LOW IQ FANS ..........

No oscar i´m from Mx... and you??
I know ALOCO PM neck is a big risk... so it was Brees shoulder... i know he was younger at that time, but my point is always is gonna be good qbs comming from the draft... but to sing PM is just a good bussiness and a good bet

SAGNEUL.................I HOPE YOU R RIGHT .....................

after manning signs elsewhere we better get back on the phone with the rams

Everybody sales an idea ALOCO, even you, dont you??
and yeah!, i love to dream with the idea to see the dolphs win it all... dont you??

Since there's no way any of us will influence da Ross Boss to not chase manning...

Here's my reasonable hopes:
1. If we can get manning without breaking the cap, then just go ahead and sign him ASAP, before Flynn gets on a jet somewhere.
2. if manning's courting will take a while, negotiations, etc., I hope it goes on as long as it takes to let Flynn sign with Cleveland (or whoever wants him).
* THIS way if we miss Manning, we go straight to our better option of letting Philbin draft to guy he wants in the first place.

Anyway, no. It's not actually named for Nick Saban (who isn't dead last time I checked, by the way!)

No, he isn't but, as far as Dolphin fans are concerned, he is.

You missunderstood me, sagneul. I asked who you are and if you resembled Home.

What other town would want a nerve dead old man QB over a long term rising star like RG3?

Me too ALOcO, me too buddy, what´s your take man??, get flynn? or sale the house for rg3??

THIS way if we miss Manning, we go straight to our better option of letting Philbin draft to guy he wants in the first place.

How do you know Philbin wants Flynn? You read that in the newspaper and swallowed it? Flynn stinks. Moore is way better.

Miami fans confuse their imagination with reality. Sad sad.

Anyone born in 1973, the last Fin SB, is 39-40 years old and would like to see a SB win before they drop dead. He or she could have a 20 year old.

Fins don't want to become the NFL version of the Chicago Cubs (always waiting till next year). Try being like the Red Sox who finally broke their jinx.

Manning could be the one to put an end to the Fins Jinx.

I'm 48. I'm over half dead.

He was saying Philbin will go and draft the player HE wants.

RG3 is a rising star?, wow!
i´d take matt barkley or andrew luck twice over RG3...
No oscar, i dont know what do you mean with HOME, i´m just a guy from MX, thats it...

I'm yours.

well with manning already telling washington no, they will have the upper hand on getting griffin

if chad pennington can win 11 games after we went 1-15, then Peyton can do much better. i think when he looks at how Dolphins finish last year, the team started 0-7 and did not quit. even when Sparano got fired they didn't quit. that will mean alot to Manning because the team did not "suck for Luck" like the Colts did.

Peyton Manning will be interviwing 12 teams over the next couple weeks.

sagneul yes I believe you are mexican. stick to soccer and churros.

THIS way if we miss Manning, we go straight to our better option of letting Philbin draft to guy he wants in the first place.

just the opposite of what i was saying.
Philbin wants to draft his guy. I have no idea what Philbin thinks of FLynn, but he made it clear he intented to draft his team if left to his own devices.
I have no desire for Flynn at all, and I'm crossing my fingers that Philbin doesn't either.
But his quotes seem to point towards he'd prefer NO FAs, including Manning. He's just not stupid enough to go against Ross on Manning.

Looking forward to watching Bonnie Franklin in the new CBS sitcom "One Day At A Time" tonight.

Anyone watch "Alice" last night? Funny stuff. "Kiss My Grits!" LOL

Ok JS, my mistake.

Guys, Manning doesnt choke like Marino did.!

marinos the man, get off marinos jock

The "Wild Cat" won those 11 games....Pennington had little to do with it. I don't recall him slinging TDs left and right. I believe he started 0-3 the following year before he went down with his career ending injury.....oh wait, I forgot....he played 2 downs last season and suffered his career ending injury.

lol, very good one Miami is BrainDead, but the thing here is that like soccer this game is a bussiness, and if you cant see the upper side here, then you´re brain dead or blind...
And if you dont belive me... try to get a seat for ANY home game a day after Ross signs him

pennington heklped, but that team wasnt any good we just won a bunch of close games vs awful teams and then got destroyed at home in playoffs.

Loco is a douche

I love PAYTON PAYTON is the man!!

Odin is my cupcake filling, he is a yogurt thrower from way back!!

Peyton should ask Irescum if his momma's a hooka?

What an exchage. Someone got under somebody's skin.

Omar needs to stop with the “Matt Flynn as an upgrade” nonsense. There aren’t many around the league who consider Matt Flynn to be an upgrade over Moore.

You really need to get a clue!
You really want to question me on my own blog?
Exactly who have you talked to PROFESSOR?

I’ve spoken to about 50 NFL people about the quarterback options Miami has, including Matt Flynn.
And that includes Dolphins officials.
Before you question me please ask yourself who have you talked to with any insight?
I’ll have intelligent discussions and debates with people. But let us not pretend its a fair fight regarding information, resources and access.
I value everyone’s insight, but don’t insult me on your own space.

There were a lot of people in the league who thought Kevin Kolb would be a great option for some teams in need of a quarterback last year. This year it’s all about Matt Flynn. I would rather not see Miami in a situation like the Cardinals are facing this year. No matter how you slice it, Flynn represents a huge risk to any team who would be willing to take a chance on him based on his performance in two starts. You have to admit that.
If you look at the free agent quarterbacks who showed “so much promise” over the past few seasons, Cassell, Kolb, Palmer and even Orton tell me who has benefited the most in the deals these quarterbacks have signed. It sure wasn’t the teams. In each case you had a player who was supposed to be a big-time free agent quarterback who would be the eventual starter and franchise quarterback of the team for several years. How has that panned out?
Now, we have Matt Flynn, a quarterback who has proven even less than any of the quarterbacks I have mentioned above, including Matt Moore. The first to take charge of the Matt Flynn to Miami talk was NFL Network with their “talking heads”.
With Joe Philbin being the new head coach in Miami it only made sense that Flynn would be the perfect fit.
Flynn’s “hype” is nothing more than being in the right place at the right time. Had Green Bay not played him in the Detroit game he would have been seen as nothing more than a backup quarterback. Until that game he had completed less than 60% of his passes and had 3 td’s and 3 int’s. Yet, I still have people trying to tell me he is more accurate than Moore. People who are excited about the possibility of Matt Flynn being the starter in Miami based on his performance in the Detroit game need to temper that excitement by looking at Flynn’s performance before that game. Then, maybe, they will come down to earth.

Yup....cupcake schedule, just like we'll have next season. Hope we don't get our arses kicked in the playoffs again.

Marino could never win the big games(1 road playoff win in 17 years!), but he could pile up his stats at garbage time.

Again ... Marino ...
You guys sound like WETS!!!!
Marino didnt play def... or ran the ball, or catched the ball... comon!!
Its like Brady... he hasnt won anything since he doesnt have any def..

marino won plenty of huge games, by himself

wolf,

Pennington was THIRD in MVP voting back in '08. I guess the MVP voters don't agree with you that it was the Wildcat that lead to a successful season. I don't remember Ronnie Brown bing mentioned in the MVP voting for running the Wildcat.

pennington was great no doubt that year, i agree craig. wasnt a very good team but they made it far

So I've thought all along that Miami would be the favourites for Manning with a team like Washington as the second choice. Yesterday, for whatever reason, I wasn't feeling too good about our chances. Today I read that Manning told Washington he's not interested in playing there. So now, like Mark in Toronto, and others have been saying, I believe it's going to be between Miami and Arizona. I think you cold make a good case for either team.

Meaty Clam

That should have said 'a GOOD case for either team'.

and penny finished tied for 2nd in mvp race that year but it wasnt close, he got 4 votes. manning won it with 32 votes

craig i keep trying to tell u that kc is the front runner

dusty,

I believe KC will be in the mix but I don't believe that will be his first choice. Say what you want but the weather in KC isn't Miami or Arizona.

I heard Manning wants this settled within a week.
