The Dolphins will meet with Peyton Manning in the coming days, The Miami Herald has learned.
As I reported over the weekend, the meeting will be somewhat out of the box. It will not be at the team facility. It will possibly be at Sun Life Stadium, a source tells me.
[Update: ESPN is reporting this meeting will take place Monday night or Tuesday. ESPN, by the way, reported earlier today that the Dolphins were all but out of the chase for Manning and he would not be taking any more visits with any more teams. I credit them when they get things right or first. I'm going to tell you when they miss, too.]
The meeting will be led by Dolphins coach Joe Philbin. Philbin may include offensive coordinator Mike Sherman in the meeting, although that is not yet clear.
The meeting is expected to be almost 100 percent about football -- Xs and Os -- and Manning and the coach or coaches (if Sherman comes) getting to know each other. The extra-curricular stuff, such as a requisite pitch from the owner and promise of Super Bowl wins may not be part of this Miami pitch because, in part, Manning may be tired of hearing that he is the final piece that will take them to the Super Bowl.
I stress to you this isn't exactly how the Dolphins planned things originally. They planned a more elaborate set-up that would include owner Stephen Ross. It is now possible Ross will not be included in this meeting. This is Manning's preference, I'm told.
This much is also clear: This will be the Dolphins best hope of landing Manning. The team considers it a good opportunity, although I must say from the outside looking in, it doesn't seem as great an opportunity as the 6-plus hour meetings Manning took with the Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos.
The Dolphins had planned an elaborate meeting with Manning that, as I reported earlier, was not going to happen at the team's Davie facility. So that is not an issue at play now. The Dolphins wanted to stay out of the limelight of media coverage, anyway.
But until we know details of the length and expanse of this pitch, we won't know exactly how serious the Dolphins are in the Manning scheme of teams vying for his services.
I will say this: At least they are in the game.

I understand it's Peyton manning but if a 36 year old QB who is injured and missed a whole season won't throw to prove he's healthy or at least getting healthy I wouldn't give him a nickel, it's time for the dolphins to quit looking like little beeotches chasing all these people and move on to someone else or give Moore another chance this whole manning thing has grown ridiculous and embarrassing as a life long dolphin fan

I agree, We Have Draft Picks - these coaches have seen first hand and they were hired so might as well leverage what they know -

oscar canosa, since you didn't say sorry man, I didn't mean to snap at you, I'll tell you WTF. Manning is over, he'll speak to Philbin tomorrow. So that's not over, and so we can't move on from there. Free agency hasn't begun, so we haven't even started. So we can't move on from there. We'll move on when all avenues are shut.
Posted by: Michael | March 12, 2012 at 09:33 PM
Don't you guys get it? Manning doesn't want to meet with either Ross or Ireland. He's in no way interested in playing for them. He's meeting with Philbin to tell him was POS' he works for & why he'll never wear a Dolphins uniform while those two back-stabbing incompetents are running the team. We're not getting Manning OR Flynn OR Luck OR Griffin. We're going with Moore next season...& I hope he tells them all to shove it up their behinds after all the abuse & lack of faith he's had to deal with this off-season.

If I were pitching Peyton Manning to join the Dolphins. My closing line would go like this:
"Mr. Manning should you choose to sign anywhere else. In the future, you'll easily be able to find us. We'll be located at www. we'refucked.com"
Thankyou Mr Manning we look forward to you cashing our paycheck!
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | March 12, 2012 at 09:36 PM
Prediction: Peyton has not found what he is looking for or he would have ended this and signed with Denver or Arizona. He is not sold on them or he would have ended this already. Manning sits down with Philbin and is blowed away with Philbin's knowledge and character. Philbin will remind Peyton of Tony Dungy. Peyton will walk away knowing that the Dolphins are his team. Peyton will sign with Dolphins on Thursday morning. You heard it here first.
Posted by: Dolphin in Georgia | March 12, 2012 at 09:37 PM
Without a doubt, Bill Bidwell and Pat Bowlen would be far better owners for Manning to play for. Im now strongly believing Peyton may have strongly suggested not putting Ireland/Ross in front of his face. If we're to even have a snowball in hell's chance of him signing in Miami.
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | March 12, 2012 at 09:41 PM
Georgia you said a whole bunch of other optimistic stuff over the weekend and that we would see Monday. None of it panned out. You can't judge nothing by what the media feeds you. You don't think The folks over at Denver and Zona can talk xo's? All of a sudden Philbin is the standout genious in the NFL?
Posted by: Quilombo | March 12, 2012 at 09:41 PM
Are you kidding Bill Bidwell is the worst owner in the NFL, then again Bowlen is extremely good. Bidwell is the cheapest as well.
Posted by: Michael | March 12, 2012 at 09:44 PM
I told you the Dolphins were definately in this and would sit down with Manning. Reports came out today Manning threw at Denver and looked like Manning of old. These reports are what I told you guys that Manning is about 90 percent and should be close to 100 percent in about another month.
Posted by: Dolphin in Georgia | March 12, 2012 at 09:45 PM
Earlier we were misled to believe Peyton was meeting with other teams as part of his due dilligence.
However, if you believe that, then Miami's gone from lead dog in the race to part of Peyton's "due dilligence.
Due dilligence is just a nice way of telling the ugly girls that youre already taking the pretty girl to the prom.
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | March 12, 2012 at 09:46 PM
Teams know this or there wouldn't be the push for Manning without him throwing.
Posted by: Dolphin in Georgia | March 12, 2012 at 09:47 PM
Georgia don't be so gullible. The only folks saying Manning is looking great are his daddy and friends.
Posted by: Quilombo | March 12, 2012 at 09:49 PM
Obviously Peyton has his best interests in mind. With the ways things are going, it seems improbable that he is going to sign with the Fins. you bring a new coach in with his own philosophy if developing your own players. Let him draft the players he wants...Hopefully a trade down and some development and next draft we will be sitting pretty. Who here honestly believes adding Peyton is a fix-all for the team? Also, it doesn't appear that he feels the same way about signing with Miami.
Posted by: SFFishFan | March 12, 2012 at 09:49 PM
Even Manning says he has a long way to go. Its daddy and friends that say he is 100 percent. SO its bs, 100 percent.
Posted by: Quilombo | March 12, 2012 at 09:50 PM
We had chance att a "proven" 500 coach and we got Coach Joe, maybe you think we lost this battle but why is Peyton not headed to St. Louis?
Many, I say at least several, wanted Coach Joe.
We will all will see at the end of 4, who made the wrong decision.
Let it it play out and believe.

Michael,
If given a choice of Bill Bidwell and circus monger Steven Ross. I would choose Bill Bidwell every time.
Hell, even Peyton Manning doesnt seem to wanna talk to Steven Ross. He met with Bolen and Bidwell.
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | March 12, 2012 at 09:51 PM
QB's at 100 percent don't need rehab.
Posted by: Quilombo | March 12, 2012 at 09:51 PM
Bodwell is much worse than Ross and he runs a circus as well. Ross isn't cheap Bidwell is the cheapest in the NFL and he is just not a very nice guy.
Posted by: Michael | March 12, 2012 at 09:55 PM
Tampafin,
IN 4 YRs We'll Find Out?
Tony Sparano is the only hc pot-Shula era that's even lasted 4yrs. That's only after Ross bungled getting rid of him after 3yrs.
HC's post-Shula dont seem to last 4yrs unless there's a bungle firing. LOL
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | March 12, 2012 at 09:55 PM
It's funny how the fans keep biting on every tidbit of media bs even after the last several bites of media bs turned out to be bs!
Posted by: Quilombo | March 12, 2012 at 09:55 PM
Last week I thought Elway was a top 5 all time QB and a decent person.
This week, some questions.
Posted by: Tampa Fin Fan for Life | March 12, 2012 at 09:56 PM
The media is so powerful its frightening. They can be wrong for 19 times in a row and most people are eager to believe the next report must be correct.
Posted by: Quilombo | March 12, 2012 at 09:57 PM
Michael,
You may as well have a cheap smarter owner. Over a dumb as a bucket of rocks owner with deep pockets.
The cheap owner(Bidwell) has at least been to a sb the last decade. The dumb owner with deep pockets(Ross) hasnt even been to a playoff game yet.
Which would you rather have?
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | March 12, 2012 at 09:59 PM
I'd take Shaub in a heartbeat. He got at least another 5 years left in the tank.
PS...I'm just trying to understand the fascination with Matt Flynn.
You guys are basing this off 1 game! How long did the Linsation last? He had more games than one under his belt.
We need a franchise QB we can hang our hat on or rest our dirty boots on. Cut or fish! But don't sit in the boat all day wonder how you're gonna ever cash a fish. The only way to catch a fish is to try. They are not trying!
Posted by: JackSparrow | March 12, 2012 at 10:00 PM
He's dumb too. That's why he's considered the worst owner in the NFL. Terrible to employees, as well as fans.
Posted by: Michael | March 12, 2012 at 10:02 PM
And there is Daniel Snyder, he just cost his team 36 million in salary cap as a penalty in the uncapped season.
Posted by: Michael | March 12, 2012 at 10:04 PM
Isn't that the point Dusty. People are wetting their panties over a 7th round pick. When in fact. Alex was first and Leaf was second.
Why are people wetting their panties over Matt Flynn?!?!?!?
Posted by: JackSparrow | March 12, 2012 at 10:05 PM
Snyder's been a laugh stock for the last 10 years
Posted by: Michael | March 12, 2012 at 10:05 PM
Philbin hasn't even coached his first game and you guys are dumping on him. Give the man his chance. Most of you have lost faith in this organization but some of us see hope in what Philbin and Shermanve already brought to this organization. These guys will play to win and not play to lose like Sparano did. It will be nice to have an offense that is designed to score touchdown instead of a conservative, let's kick a field goal and see what the defense can do. I am excited to be a Dolphin fan and if bringing in Manning gets us closer to a superbowl, then I say let's go all in to get him. It beats the alternative, Henne, Henne, Henne.
Posted by: Dolphin in Georgia | March 12, 2012 at 10:06 PM
Flynn has played 2 games. Not one dc in the league has evr "GAME-PLANNED" for him.
Guys, great qb's are still great even when dc's game plan for them. Do you guys really believe Flynn was game planned for?
Ask yourselves what happens when dc's game plan for Flynn and get him figured out? More than likely he's going to look more like the 7th rd qb he was drafted as. LOL
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | March 12, 2012 at 10:06 PM
Georgia I'm not dumping on him. You are elevating him to be some superior genious. That's all. Don't think other teams can't talk impressivly with Manning.
Posted by: Quilombo | March 12, 2012 at 10:07 PM
Michael, your bashing of Snyder comes off as jealousy he got RG3. Give it up. He made a bold move, good for him.
Posted by: Quilombo | March 12, 2012 at 10:08 PM
Just because something looks like the right thing to do doesn't mean it is the right thing to do.
What good is hiring a broker based on 1 successful day of trading? Why is that enough history to mortgage your future on?
Posted by: JackSparrow | March 12, 2012 at 10:09 PM
Over a 16 game stretch we may find that Matt Flynn is really "Curtis Painter".
Right now I would take Henne over Matt Flynn. We already know what Chad Henne's worst looks like. LOL
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | March 12, 2012 at 10:10 PM
Everyone in the sports media is basically paid by the sport they cover. Mando wouldn't have a pool if not for the NFL. Even he knows that.
Point being this...
Its all about the money. Its all about the internet traffic on this Manning story. It will all be about the internet traffic on the Flynn story. Just like it was all about the internet traffic on the Favre story.
Manning is not going to go to Miami because Archie won't let him. Archie is REALLY Peyton's agent.
Posted by: JackSparrow | March 12, 2012 at 10:13 PM
Quilombo,
i'm soorry I don't walk around like the sky is falling. I am just optimistic that the Dolphins got it right this time. Philbin is a smart coach and has integrity. Alot of people compare him to Dungy. I want to give him his chance to turn this team into something special.
Posted by: Dolphin in Georgia | March 12, 2012 at 10:13 PM
Georgia, I'm fine with Philbin. Just realistic. He needs to prove himself still. I'll bet you thought all the same things about Saban.
Posted by: Quilombo | March 12, 2012 at 10:16 PM
Now, they're all meeting at a "secret" place!
Ireland and Philbin, and who knows else, all got on a plane and left Miami...
No media frenzy!
Where's Home? Maybe he knows. Haven't seen or heard from him lately...
Posted by: Tracy474 | March 12, 2012 at 10:16 PM
Dungy one won SB with one of the top 3 QB's in history. Not so impressed. And who gives a rats ass who compares him to Dungy, its meaningless.
Posted by: Quilombo | March 12, 2012 at 10:17 PM
JackSparrow,
A 35yr old grownass man wont come to Miami because his father wont let him. Dude have you ever hear of aka reality check? LOL
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | March 12, 2012 at 10:17 PM
@Yesterday's Gone
EXACTLY! These people think Flynn can throw 6 TD's every single game. Its just another rabbit hole to even invest one penny on Matt Flynn. This offense isn't that good. Neither was Denvers. What made Denver a playoff team was their DEFENSE. Defense's can win playoff births. I don't think they can win championships in this era. Too hamstrung.
Mario Williams should have been on the radar long before Peyton.
Posted by: JackSparrow | March 12, 2012 at 10:18 PM
WOW! We're still paying the price for letting Bill Parcells "buy the groceries". LOL
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | March 12, 2012 at 10:19 PM
Saban was a jerk. His coaches thought it. Even his secretary complained that he was a prick. He treated his players with disrespect. That works in college but grown men don't want to play for that. He was a Belicheck wanna be.
Posted by: Dolphin in Georgia | March 12, 2012 at 10:21 PM
JackSparrow,
What the dummies here dont understand is:
MATT FLYNN WAS NEVER GAME PLANNED FOR. NFL DC'S WILL QUICKLY CATCH UP TO HIM AND HE'LL LOOK LIKE EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DRAFTED AS.
A 7TH RD PICK! LOL
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | March 12, 2012 at 10:22 PM
Quilombo, what is I said about Snyder that's not true. And if you didn't realize that Snyder is the laughing stock of the NFL, you're really misinformed. Let's see where do I start. How many coaches has he had in the past 10 years, making fan pay to watch practices, over paying for free agents, salary cap issues, meddling in player acquisition, suing sports writer for writing an article titled The Cranky Redskins Fan's Guide to Dan Snyder. He's a laughing stock period.
Posted by: Michael | March 12, 2012 at 10:24 PM
Who has not seen the commercial where Archie stares down Peyton and Eli?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJaxojYYOoo
ARCHIE RUNS THE MANNING BOY'S SHOW. Archie HATES Miami.
Posted by: JackSparrow | March 12, 2012 at 10:25 PM
AT LEAST DAN SNYDER KNOWS HOW TO FIRE A HEAD COACH! LOL
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | March 12, 2012 at 10:25 PM
I mean having 36 million taken off the salary cap is something to laugh about right Q.
Posted by: Michael | March 12, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Michael, who really cares who is a laughing stock? What does it matter? When you are a multi millionaire do you think he gives a fk? He has a QB, we don't, that I know. Why are you dishing on Snyder, its over, not even the blog topic. Get over it. Don't be jealous. Move on. I would have liked RG.
Posted by: Quilombo | March 12, 2012 at 10:26 PM
That is true, lol. He's had lots of practice.
Posted by: Michael | March 12, 2012 at 10:26 PM
I still like Miam's chances to get Manning. I think the Dolphins will go after Brandon Weeden in 2nd round.
Posted by: Dolphin in Georgia | March 12, 2012 at 10:27 PM
JackSparrow,
It's only a commercial for goodness sakes. Commercials are deliberately designed to have pund intended.
Do you actually believe Eli and Peyton go aropund kicking each other up the rump? If so I gotta a bridge for sell! LOL
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | March 12, 2012 at 10:29 PM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJaxojYYOoo
The manning boys don't act 35. Archie controls this stuff.
Posted by: JackSparrow | March 12, 2012 at 10:29 PM
Every time we bring someone (anyone) in the chuckleheads think this is our year. HOW LONG HAVE WE BEEN SAYING THAT without drafting a first round QB?
Posted by: JackSparrow | March 12, 2012 at 10:32 PM
YG, does Brady look like what he was drafted as, a 6th round pick?
Posted by: redsky | March 12, 2012 at 10:33 PM
@Yesterday's Gone
Shut up moron!
Posted by: Dolphin in Georgia | March 12, 2012 at 10:33 PM
Quilombo btw we were discussing how bad of am owner Ross is.
Posted by: Michael | March 12, 2012 at 10:34 PM
JackSparrow,
The Mannings period, realistically speaking, are just a bunch of cajun yahoos that struck it rich because of thier football talents.
That Manning family tree would probably reflect to be a real life version of the Beverly HillBillies. Nothing more, nothing less. LOL
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | March 12, 2012 at 10:35 PM
