Reports: Redskins trade for rights to RG3

The Washington Redskins had to know they were practically eliminated from the Peyton Manning derby earlier this evening. They'll be OK.

They just completed a blockbuster trade for the No. 2 overall pick in the April draft.

They're now in position to draft Heisman winner Robert Griffin III.

FoxSports.com first and ESPN afterwards reported the Redskins are sending the St. Louis Rams at least two first-round picks plus future considerations for the right to own the No. 2 pick. ESPN is actually saying three first-round selections -- the team's firsts this year, in 2013 and 2014 -- are involved in the exchange as well as this year's No. 2 pick.

The trade cannot become official until the new league year opens March. 13.

So what impact does this have locally?

On national radio with Profootball.com Friday I told Mike Florio the Dolphins weren't going to make a strong enough play for the second overall pick because the asking price was simply too high and the Dolphins 1. didn't wish to use their chips to move that high and 2. didn't want to send that many assets to Jeff FIsher, the man who declined to become their coach earlier this year and picked the Rams instead. The Dolphins, however, did inquire about the possibility of getting into this deal -- to no avail.

Given the price of the trade, the Dolphins weren't able to get in play for RG3.

But this absolutely takes another QB option off the table.

The Dolphins are fully invested in the Peyton Manning chase but the need to succeed there now grows for Miami because options are fading.

If the Dolphins add Manning, they'll consider themselves successful and set for the near future. If they fail to convince Manning to come to South Florida, the only apparent option to addressing the void for a franchise quarterback is free agent Matt Flynn or selecting a lesser-rated quarterback in the draft -- assuming there's conviction that would bring an elite player.

Who cares about the crap Dolphins?

There is this one pesky downside: Manning, healthy, in his prime, won one Super Bowl. One. Four neck surgeries later, the Dolphins would be asking him to do that again, unhealthy and not in his prime, in one of the remaining three or four years he has left, after which Team Purgatory would find itself right back where it is today. The best teams in this league groom their own Manning instead of trying to get lucky with someone else’s discarded one.

**** BREAKING NEWS *****

Peyton Manning, former QB of the Colts, apparently has taken a pee in his hotel in Arizona.

Dudley..you are correct man.. Also him not throwing and MIA offering him a big money contract is like marrying a chick without at least doing a package check to make sure she isn't or has never been a man !

thats a chance miami has to take now that rg3 is gone. last hope is to sign manning

Nobody except the colts has ever groomed their own manning. He's the greatest of all time by a very large margin.

manning is top 5 of all time,. number one? no way. ill take elway

TigerSam, that post was stupid. You assume the Rams wanted a player and not better dradt choices. You can't make things up. This isn't Madden.

hilarious michael

miamia better not say a word after meeting with manning or it will piss him off. the cards and broncos have been dead silent

Armando's at the Doral so no Manning posts from him today.

good let it calm down. manning hates media coverage. let zona talk to him then we get our chance tomm. tuesday we will know. denver has to be considered the front runner. ross and ireland could screw this up big time with a garbage presentation. and do not ask him to throw, no other team has

Better roll out the red carpet for Manning on Sunday, every current phins player should be there the plead and beg for him to join their team...well to much despiration might scare him away...lol. But if the the phins don't get Manning, I would fire Mr. Ireland on the spot...it's all his fault.

Sugarnuts, really it's all Ireland's fault really.

it wont be all his fault, but looking at it as a whole we all know ireland is an awful gm, the league looks at him as a joke

this is ross and irelands last shot at making this franchise matter again

Ireland needs to be fired whether Manning comes here or not.Has the NFL ever seen a worse GM??

no mj, spielman is the closest thing to him. but ross wont fire his butt buddy

I dont get it. Is Ireland Ross's illegitimate son? Why else does he still have a job? He's much more at fault then Sparano was.

ESPN Mortenson and Shefter reporting now that Denver is the front runner with Arizona second. Maybe Tebow will be available. Dolphins may not get Manning.

theres 2 guys can give us a shot at manning and they better do all the talking, sherman and philbin

Who the hell does this guy think he is? He wants to bring his own players and run his own system. Well, fukk him, that's not the way it works. Umm..maybe.

Aloco....

please find some new material......

yeah ill take clark and wayne coming with him, no doubt

Heck, let Manning pick a new OC and HC if he wants to. I'll take his opinion over ANYONE in the Dullfin organization.

Don't believe any reports....just stand by for the decision.....

How can anyone be a FRONT RUNNER...if i just left YOU to meet somebody else....

The only front runner...is the team that signs manning....

There is no chance Manning comes to Miami just as there was no chance Miami could give enough picks to make the trade with the Rams.

Listening to people on this blog is like watching ants try to build an anthill on Lejeune Rd. You know they spend their lives in futility.

Weeks of posts where many were clamoring for Fisher and watched as reality occurred and all the lazyboy GM's suddenly realized it wouldn't happen. Then all the Madden players who put forth solutions to the QB issue by making trades without realizing Madden is not reality. Now, they all push for Manning and think Miami has a chance. Manning knows what some of us know - Miami doesn't have a premier receiving corp, Miami doesn't have a line that could block you from getting out of your lazyboy and protect a QB, Miami doesn't have a defense that could stop anybody. Manning to Miami? Never gonna happen.

Wake up. Face reality. Miami's best hope is Chad Henne - always has been but Dolfans don't understand you groom a QB and make him a star. Once Manning signs, you nitwits will start screaming to trade the farm for Tebow or Kolb again. Some will argue for Flynn. The more delusional will attempt to argue that Moore is in the top ten.

The social experiment will continue.

Michael

Michael,

In this one blog you have now called over 19 people stupid. Just an observation.

What confuses me is this. Peyton wants a multi million dollar contract to throw the football, but he refuses to throw the football.

It does not compute.

ARMANDO:

WHY WOULD PAYTON WANT TO COME TO THIS TEAM?

THE MEDIA ACT LIKE KIDS WATCHING SANTA.

IT WAS A SAD DISPLAY FOR MIAMI.

I'M HERE IN JERSEY LOOKING AT THIS MESS ON ESPN THINKING TO MY SELF WHAT ARE THEY DOING?

THE OJ WHITE BRONCO CHASE HAD LESS COVERAGE.

As much as I want Peyton as our QB I think Matt Flynn would be the better choice bc it still leaves cap room to fill more holes. I did read ESPN saying that we are no longer the favorites. Maybe that is a good thing bc the last few times we were the favorites we came back empty handed

Armando must be drinking lots of Pabts Blue Ribbon today at the Doral. Expect confusion.

This is a buisness....there ARE NO FAVORITES.....

Sorry, I cant get excited about Matt Flynn. If we dont get Manning, it'll be another pathetic season.

Say what you want about Denver making it to the playoffs last year. If Peyton gets the chance to play against Brady twice a season he will love it. Brady lit Denver up in the playoffs last year. Miami had a chance to beat the Pats in both games last year and, with Manning, they probably would have.
They had a 17 pt lead in the 2nd game at the half and they blew the lead. The offense stalled. They can beat the Pats and Manning has to know that.
Manning still has a better chance to go further into the playoffs with this team.

THE RAMS AND THE REDSKINS MADE OUT WHILE THE DOLPHINS SAT BY AND WATCHED.

THIS 36 YEAR OLD MAN MIGHT NOT EVEN BE READY.

FLYNN MAY BE KOLB.

THEN AGAIN THEY BOTH PLAYED WELL IN THE WEST COAST.

RG3 YOU CAN BUILD AROUND AND MOLD.

IF WE GET MANNING OR FLYNN WE'RE F CKED.

THERE WON'T BE MUCH CAP SPACE TO DO ANYTHING WITH.

A QB DOESN'T MAKE A TEAM BETTER BUT A TEAM CAN MAKE A QB LOOK BETTER.

yeah lou after all of this, flynn would be a disaster. i wanted griffin, hes gone. its now manning or bust

Home, Do you still think Manning is signing with Miami tomorrow?

Oh oh Shefter reporting it Denver or Zona, 50:50 chance for each.

JUSTIN CREDIBLE, and RG3 could be Ryan Leaf.

JUSTIN CREDIBLE, the FACT is the Dolphins didn't have enough ammo to beat Washington in a trade. All choice were lower than Washington's. Rge Rams wren't going to do us a favor and accept a lower choice for the number 2.

Panting Mangled, thanks for the information, don't you think you should occupy your time better than by count my posts. You must live a pretty boring life.

HOME guaranteed us Manning to Miami.

So I'm going with that M2M!

Homes said,
"MVP QB Peyton Manning WILL be a Miami Dolphin on 3.12.2012"

So maybe tomorrow night M2M will sign with us.

Home is a lunatic...why would you believe anything he says.. He thinks that everyone is trying to kill him...he really thinks he's that important or interesting...he isn't. Don't believe home, you will regret it when he shows up at your doorstep to thank you...

Hey "get a clue"... And do you think that I believe anything you say...usually losers sit around and criticize way people say on a blog...so how do you know what you know? Are you a flea hanging on manning's left one to be privy to your information?

I know what I know because I am not you C63-AMG. I don't concern myself with what you believe, I know what you believe. The experiment continues and you validate the hypothetical.

This franchise is BROKEN!!! No one in their right mind wants to come here! Sad state this once pound franchise is in! With the circus ring leader in Ross we're DOOMED for years to come!!! So sad
