Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill's pro day is proceeding before a large contingent in College Station, Tex.
The Dolphins are there with general manager Jeff Ireland and coach Joe Philbin confirmed. I do not know if offensive coordinator Mike Sherman is there. I will try to confirm. [Update: Sherman is not in College Station.]
Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star Telegram reports the Dolphins contingent had dinner with Tannehill on Wednesday night. They forced him to pay.
Nah, just kidding. I'm assuming the Dolphins paid.
According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, there are 21 teams present for the event. The Cleveland Browns are there, represented by offensive coordinator Brad Childress among others. It is interesting perhaps only to me that the Browns' major voices -- general manager Tom Heckert and head coach Pat Shurmur were not present. They were at Alabama's pro day to see running back Trent Richardson.
The Broncos, Chiefs, Bills, Saints and Seahawks are there, with head coach Pete Carroll representing his team.
Because he suffered a broken foot this offseason, scouts wanted to see Tannehill run to make sure he is relatively healed. According to reports, Tannehill ran the 40-yard dash once and clocked (hand timing) between 4.59 and 4.62.
Tannehill completed his first 24 consecutive throws, according to NFLDraftScout.com analyst Dane Brugler. He had a pass dropped then he had another pass dropped on his 42nd throw. He finished the workout with 65 completions -- 65 for 68 with two dropped passes.
Yes, quarterbacks typically ace their pro day workouts. I get it. But it is always better that they perform well than if they chuck a hot mess of poo. So give the guy that.
I remind you Tannehill, who started 19 games at quarterback, was a wide receiver before was moved to QB. He will go in the first round as a QB. He said after the workout he has private workouts already set up with the Browns, Chiefs, and Eagles.

Rafeal, Living in ATL I watch a lot of Stephen Hill, he's lazy in his route running and sometimes drops easy balls thrown to him. SAY NO TO STEPHEN.

There is NOT enough room in NY for two QBs and Tebow will be the Rex QB this season.
Just say in.

anyone see a football life w/al davis.he lost his touch in his last few years but he was brilliant for 3.5 out of 5 decades @ the helm.there's a segment where he says most teams believed in taking what the defense gave them but not him he believed in imposing his will on the other team. same as shula in the 70's & 80's. i hope to see this from our Dolphins one day soon. i am soo tired of freakin game managers.i hate that term.it has been WAY too long since anyone feared our offense.

Hiring any more mediocre QBs (the only kind we are being offered right now) won't make the Dolphins any better. It would be best if Philbin begins to review promising QBs for future drafts instead. THAT would say something about his long-term goals here beyond mere words. Meanwhile DolFANS deserve the most valuable players Ross can get from this draft. We still have many weak spots beyond QB and we still need to lower the salary cap, so getting the best value from every pick would be a good approach. Now, if Ireland & Co. still want to hire more QBs this season, at least try to be smart and go for Kellen Moore. He won't cost the franchise any 1st, 2nd or 3rd round picks; plus he could become the next Drew Brees given proper training and guidance (or at least become a cost-effective long-term backup, which is more than I expect from any other rookie QB out there).

ALoco,
Im playing the 1/2 billion dollar powerball drawing Friday night. If I win I promise to buy one of those beautiful white jackets, with the pretty straps that buckle in the back. Ok, little buddy?
I also promise to give you padded paneled walls and make sure you have helmeted head gear just in case the beautiful yellow bus crashes. Or prevent your tongue from getting stuck to the windows during the harsh winters.

Does anyone know how the pizza party went today? 3/29/12 right? I haven't heard one thing about it, must have been a HUGE success. I bet Ireland is crying and packing his things as we speak. BwaaaaaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Waste of time.
Hey if you haven't seen it yet and like horror movies watch Rick Santorum's ad called "Obamaville". It's one of the funniest political adds ever made and reminds one of the add in the beginning of the movie "Scrooged". But this one is real! Fantastic stuff.

Check this site out and how many mockers are saying Miami will get Tannehill. It doesn't say much but the majority has changed from Rieff to Tannehill in a couple weeks.
I wonder if that will shift to Cleveland at 4 in a few more weeks.

Who is the better prospect Tannehill or Cousins?
Is a trade down and take Cousins with first pick barmy or a sensible cover your bases move.
Blackmon has the stats BUT best pass defense was ranked 49th with several 100th or worse. Hopefully he will be gone before our pick.

This attack on Ireland is just stupid. The key is the coach. It's always the coach. Many posters aren't bright enough to see that.
Ireland is developing on the job and needs time. He can become a good GM. But since the Fins are changing coaches every few years the team has had a problem getting on track.
There is also alot of luck involved in the process of getting a franchise qb. You have be the worst team in the right year one comes out, Like the Colts w/Manning and now Luck. Or you need one to fall on your lap. Like Brady, Warner, Brees, Romo. If you guys don't see the randomness of how those guys were acquired, I can't help you.
What many don't understand is that if it was easy to get a great QB, every one would have one. Thats what makes them elite, fellas.
Posted by: legitimatefinfan | March 29, 2012 at 06:01 PM
Belichick became a genius only after his GM drafted Tom Brady. Any suggestion that the GM doesn't matter, only the coach, is just wrong.

TRADE DOWN!!! WE NEED MORE "JUNK"
Lest we forget this is a crap shoot. Marino was the 7th QB taken.

Clue,
Hill looked so good at the combined he fooled me. Dolphins will be looking for a Marshall size receiver but I like Michael Floyd in the second round.
Any of you dildo heads have an "intelligent" mock draft set up? It'll be fun to compare instead of insulting each other all day.

Yeah, a sixth round pick that was passed on by everyone six or more times. Yeah, that was a brilliant pick.
Seems you like to travel safely with hindsight as your compass.

Did Ireland ask Tannehill if his momma’s a hooker? No wonder rookies and FA’s treat ireland like he has leprosy.

Intelligent,
Are you saying the Dolphins are taking Floyd at #8?
I like the pick and you're right about Floyd going in first round.
Lets compare Dolphins mock drafts, here's my "tweeked" mock draft:
Keeping in mind the Dolphins will develod Clay as a TE and deep draft in WR (thank god), OL, and ILB, this would be the "Realistic" updated preferred draft:
1st rnd: QB – Tannehill (Trade 1st and 3rd rnd picks with Cleveland)
1st rnd: WR - Michael Floyd (Trade up 2nd & 3rd - from Chicago)
4th: WR - T.Y. Hilton (I'm a FIU grad.) if available, or Jarius Wright if not
5th: OT - Levy Adcock
6th: Safety
7th or Undrafted: TE, ILB

im hoping they pass on him but ive prepared myself for the fact that they will probaly take him at 8

Posted by: Rafael Gomez | March 29, 2012 at 07:07 PM
whatever they do i hope they use those 1st 5 picks in the top 103 to get 1 of the 3 second tier qb's(tannehill, osweiler, cousins), 2 wc offense(read great route running)wr's, and 2 de/olb's that had success rushing and/or covering in college.with the last 3 picks take athletic/versitile o-linemen and te/hb's

Posted by: dusty bottoms | March 29, 2012 at 07:03 PM
I don't know if I would go that far Dusty but a 2nd and 3rd to get Floyd seems rather steep.
I would rather they trade up to bottom of the first for Mercilus. I would hope they plan to get a pass rusher somewhere in the draft.
Posted by: Dolfan Rick | March 29, 2012 at 07:12 PM
Just wondering. Is 2 WR's in the 1st 5 picks in the draft really comletely necessary with Bess,Hartline, and Gates on the roster?
We could wait to see if someone like Streeter or Hilton falls or make a trade if Philbin doesn't like what he sees in training camp.
Posted by: Dolfan Rick | March 29, 2012 at 07:20 PM
Dolfan Rick
maybe your right.gates has a lot to learn about running routes, but i honestly dont know what our current wideouts could do.our pass offense was borderline neanderthal and sparano refused to give moore, wallace and gates any pt to develop and they barely used hartline and the rb's.just dont trade up.this draft is not worth it.
Posted by: 41phish | March 29, 2012 at 07:26 PM
Dolfan Rick,
We're talking "Green Bay" west coast offense here and Hilton kick return skills are superior to Gates.
Posted by: Rafael Gomez | March 29, 2012 at 07:27 PM
rather them not trade anything. keep all your picks, take the best player avail with each pick. ton of holes to fill
Posted by: dusty bottoms | March 29, 2012 at 07:29 PM
Hey Rick, I think with the new coach and them saying we'll be moving to a WCO style offense WR will be a higher priority than in the past.
I can see at least 2 WR's (I would prefer them in the top 5 of our picks) and a TE. I am not sure a thrid would slip in but anything could happen.
Posted by: Texas_Dolfan | March 29, 2012 at 07:30 PM
no chance they take a wr in first rd. they will take wrs in 3rd or 4th rds. tannehill is their pick at 8.
Posted by: dusty bottoms | March 29, 2012 at 07:34 PM
I tend to agree with you Dusty, unless the trade up doesn't cost too much and it ends up being a marquee player.
I think the jury is still out on Daniel Thomas but somehow I don't think he will ever live up to the picks we gave up to get him.
Posted by: Dolfan Rick | March 29, 2012 at 07:37 PM

Posted by: Dolfan Rick | March 29, 2012 at 07:40 PM
the way they deployed the running backs in the passing game sucked in 2011.a lot of that was because they had to protect for that joke @ right tackle.trading for thomas was a mistake, but hopefully they use thomas, bush, and clay properly.i remember the early 90's version of marino throwing a ton of balls to paige, byars, and kirby.that's been missing since then.
Posted by: 41phish | March 29, 2012 at 07:42 PM
Rick and Dusty - I would like Tannehill to be the pick but I am starting to feel like someone else is going to take him before us.
Cleveland could at 4. The 1 thing that makes me doubt that is their GM has never taken a QB early. Holmgren may have never taken a QB in the first round at all.
But Arizona, KC and now the Eagles are being thrown into the mix. Jax is known to be wanting to trade out of their spot so if we want him we'd have to move up and I am thinking Tampa at 5. I don't want to trade up for him because I like Weeden and Cousins also. And they can be had in the 2nd round. Well Cousins for sure. Weeden may be taken too early in the 2nd for us.
Posted by: Texas_Dolfan | March 29, 2012 at 07:51 PM
nobody wants tannehill besides us as early in the draft. cleveland blowing smoke hoping idiot ireland bites and gives up picks to move up. browns take richardson, DO NOT trade up if tannehill is who u want. he will be there at 8 and long after if miami passed on him
Posted by: dusty bottoms | March 29, 2012 at 07:55 PM
DUSTY.....HOW YOU KNOW,NO ONE WANTS TANNEHILL EARLY IN THE DRZAFT ?

Don't underestimate Tannehiil, he might not have the 4.2 of Steve Young but he has very quick feet and is exceedingly smart, he had full command of that Pro-Style offense and might transition well into the NFL.

Posted by: Kris | March 29, 2012 at 08:06 PM
You bring up a good point Texas, although I agree with Dusty and would wait it out at 8. I think he will be there.
A lot of fans assumed Cleveland was referring to the 8 spot when they said the would be willing to trade down as far as 8.
They may very well have been referring to the 7 spot where they could take Richardson or Tannehill and get an extra pick to boot.
I say make them take him at 4 if they want him. I wouldn't give'em squat.
