Tannehill pro day under way (Dolphins in the house)

Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill's pro day is proceeding before a large contingent in College Station, Tex.

The Dolphins are there with general manager Jeff Ireland and coach Joe Philbin confirmed. I do not know if offensive coordinator Mike Sherman is there. I will try to confirm. [Update: Sherman is not in College Station.]

Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star Telegram reports the Dolphins contingent had dinner with Tannehill on Wednesday night. They forced him to pay.

Nah, just kidding. I'm assuming the Dolphins paid.

According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, there are 21 teams present for the event. The Cleveland Browns are there, represented by offensive coordinator Brad Childress among others. It is interesting perhaps only to me that the Browns' major voices -- general manager Tom Heckert and head coach Pat Shurmur were not present. They were at Alabama's pro day to see running back Trent Richardson.

The Broncos, Chiefs, Bills, Saints and Seahawks are there, with head coach Pete Carroll representing his team.

Because he suffered a broken foot this offseason, scouts wanted to see Tannehill run to make sure he is relatively healed. According to reports, Tannehill ran the 40-yard dash once and clocked (hand timing) between 4.59 and 4.62.

Tannehill completed his first 24 consecutive throws, according to NFLDraftScout.com analyst Dane Brugler. He had a pass dropped then he had another pass dropped on his 42nd throw. He finished the workout with 65 completions  -- 65 for 68 with two dropped passes.

Yes, quarterbacks typically ace their pro day workouts. I get it. But it is always better that they perform well than if they chuck a hot mess of poo. So give the guy that.

I remind you Tannehill, who started 19 games at quarterback, was a wide receiver before was moved to QB. He will go in the first round as a QB. He said after the workout he has private workouts already set up with the Browns, Chiefs, and Eagles.

Kris, no I'm totally with you on that. This carousel is doing nothing for us. I want Philbin to have a good amount of time to develop players, get the guys who will fit the system, have time to fully install the system and the team to perfect it. Four years would be the MINIMUM to me.

I was just saying that was the cycle for the recent past. So I don't want to get into a situation where we're bad for 2 years and then Ross is itching to move on. I don't think that will be the case, but if we had a young QB to develop, I think that would give Philbin some time (because then he would say I've got the guy, just need to get him up to speed).

But, yeah, we can't keep switching these HC's every few years. No stability in that situation.

Richardson resembles a young 2002 Ricky Williams

No Team that has Richardson available will pass on him, The guy is a Beast.

Clue, I believe someone mentioned it starts on the 26th. Less than a month away.

Re: Trent Richardson

When Mark Ingram was on his way to winning his undeserved Heisman, one of my friends told me that there was no way Mark Ingram should've won the Heisman. Not only was he not the best RB in the country that year (Toby Gerhart), my friend told me he wasn't even the best running back on his team and mentioned Richardson. At the time, I had trouble believing him. I don't anymore.

The guy is a Adrian Peterson type. If Cleveland adds him and Michael Floyd to Joe Thomas this year, then adds Barkley next year - watch out.

To ion from last night,

Where did I say I formed by opinion on what Casserly and Mayock think of Tannehill? A lot of people were high on Mallett and I never liked the kid. Most were really high on Newton, I didn't think he'd do what he did coming into the league last year. I really liked Dalton last year while others weren't as high on him.

I simply threw out that Casserly think Tannehill is a better prospect than Flacco and Freeman coming out. I also pointed out that Mayock is very high on Tannehill and thinks his arm strength is better than Luck's (which I disagreed with).

Throwing that stuff out there doesn't mean that's what formed my opinion. I like Tannehill because I think he's worth the risk and like others I'm tired of waiting.

I honestly think some of you guys have a real f-ing problem with reading comprehension.

MArk, Richardson is a bigger Adrian Peterson, I dont think he's as elusive as him. But if you want to build a prototypical RB, Richardson def as the body short and stocky. 5 10 227..

Time for me to sit down and squeeze out a "Garrard"

This just in... In Miami they just changed the stadiums name to Bum-Life Stadium

Refresh preeese

Clue......there's a "countdown to the draft" on the top right of my blog....check it out anytime you're wondering how many days are left.

DC......My blog post yesterday is very closely related to your comments today about Philbin actually teaching are players more than they have been taught in the past. Maybe he changes our culture and enables some players already on the roster to step up their game and shine.

I'm smoking a cig and looking over my balcony thinking, ... Garrard with 15 fumbles and 25 interceptions in the his last 30 games.

Wow, that sucks ?

...then later he had back problems, surgery and a year off ?

... now Garrard is the highest paid Dolphin QB and probably Jeff Ireland's starting QB ?

... is it possible Ireland is also working for the Jets and purposely destroying this team ?

Conspiracy theorist Home, What the HELL is going on the Dolphins ?

Where's Walker, i gotta get stoned and, ... "thinkaboutit" ?

Hey Rex you would like to squeeze out a Garrard but you're blocked up by a Sparano. The greatest offensive coordinator in history is now running the Jets offense. Watch out everyone! They're going to run the ball all over the place and show the NFL it is not a passing league. Fist pumps will be at an all time high and by the 6th game of the season the fans will be screaming Tebow, Tebow, Tebow, and will ruin any confidence Sanchez may have had left. Sanchez will be a ruined QB and Tebow will come in and stink it up because the entire NFL has already figured out how to play him.

Yes, the mighty Jets. The team that's won one championship and one super bowl in it's 56 year history. What a juggernaut.

No FG fist pumps anymore

Perhaps u have bee away for awhile

I'm a big boy now

Fist Pumps for Tebow running threw the Dolphins defense like last year and humiliating u looosas

Fist Pumps for TDs

my new motto!

I was on an American flight last night with Brad Childress (OC for Cleveland), which was from Dallas to Ft. Meyers. The flight left Dallas at 6:20 so he must have just left the Pro-Day. I spoke with him for 2 minutes as we were in line boarding the plane. I left that discussion thinking they are NOT going to take Tannehill. He was a pretty solid guy, I would have liked to see Miami consider him for HC.

He said that he liked Tannehill but he "needs a lot of work'" and he "won't be making a huge impact day one...he is not a Marino."

I asked him if Tannehill was someone he was really interested in after seeing him at the Pro-Day. He said chuckling, "not really but I'll do what we will do what we can to drive up the value of our pick." Then he laughed, "but let's keep that our secret."

He mentioned that he spoke with Philbin and Ireland while they were all there yesterday and when I asked if Sherman as there he saide, "no Joes said it would have been too hard for him to be there."

I hate calling people out on stories but for all he knew you could have been a reporter if your account is true. I don't believe he would have tipped his hand and his teams in that fashion because "IF" it's true you can send it to the Cleveland Post Gazette and Mr. Childress would be unemployed by tomorrow, I mean really! He told you the Browns have no intention of taking Tannahill just in duping somebody to move up and trade, really!! You should have asked him then if Blackmon was the pick so you could have scooped everybody from NFL Net to ESPN!!

Jets are better

I would rather play there

They got me to the post season

something the stank fish cannot do

Yes,,,,the mighty Jets,,,,who are constantly tweeting they don't want Tebow on the team. Half of them hate the guy because he's just not a good QB AND THEY ALL KNOW IT. tHEY'RE THINKING,,,,,GRRREEEAAATTTTT,,, first we had to deal with Sanchez sucking and now they went and got a worse QB who will ruin what little confidence our bad qb has. It's al rainbows in Jets land, just look at their offseason moves, Tebow and Sparano! Woohooooooo Super Bowl here they come!

The mighty Jets fans. A fan base with such class that they force women at the stadium to show their breasts on the way to the bathroom. The women are forced to do so because if they don't comply they get pelted with beer bottles, some of which are full and have caused injury. There is no more beer allowed after halftime at Jets games. GREAT JOB CLASSY FANS!

Craig, I got a similar attack yesterday. Some people just can't interpret what they read and go ballistic.

I agree with you on Tannehill. There are enough people saying good things about Tannehill to think he's worth the 8. The worst I can hear people say is that he's a bit raw but nobody questions his talent from what I hear. If he was ready to start then he wouldn't be available at 8. If he's a first round talent and ready to play from day 1, then he's the 3. And furthermore, St. Louis doesn't get that bounty from Washington.

Dolphins never played me even though i burned all their CBs everyday in practice
I am bigger and more physical and go up and get the football
I joined the Jets and scored an easy TD against lil CB Vontae Davis
The world is green and speaks only, ... JETS!
This is just the beginning!
Sparano is gonna play me opposite WR Holmes now

Clue, Trent has all the earmarks of being in the Peterson, Ricky talent sphere though. He's special.

Crowder was right, Dolphin management is all racist.

Did I mention the Jets have to borrow someone else's stadium for their home games because the city and it's citizens refuse to help them build a new stadium even though Willets Point, Nassau County, and other prime locations on Long Island are wide open and unused? Did I mention that? The city hates the Jets.

Did I also mention that the Jets actually play in someone else's stadium in someone else's state? They play in New Jersey. Where do the Dolphins play? Georgia? Alabama?

Shonne Greene. Enough said

Tebow is a Winner. If they suite the offense for him, he will win Games that no ordinary QB could win.

Hey Rex, you're supposed to suck on them, NOT EAT EM'! nO WONDER WHY HE'S SO FAT? He's like Obama in a way. Anyone ever heard from any of his ex-girlfriends or were they all marinated and cooked for fatty's dinners? Hmmmmmmm

Mark, I agree I just wish Ireland didnt take Daniel Thomas last year, Richardson maybe would of been available at 8. Ah well, Tannehill scares me with only 19 career college starts. Name one top 10 QB who had 19 or less college starts at QB? NONE! Fools gold..

i AX u dis Turner, i coverred u a couple of to times so u cant catch da footballl
so yoos r bigga than alot of oda WRs and mayb eu win but i waves my arms around and act like a monkey after yoosd scored
somtimes i lay on da ground and slap the ground after yoos score on me
sootwittta me dat!

Got to work out at my gym which i own mysef now.

Gigi please call me back, i left you 11 messages and still nothing!

According to them they were going to win the last two super bowls. It's worked out wonderfully. Especially last year when they couldn't get to .500 because the Dolphins spanked their bi**h a**es even though our coaching staff had one foot out the door. Now that's a team that fights! Not like the Jets who had to kick their best receiver off of the field because he was yelling at his qb in the huddle. WHAT A MESS! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

oops ^ myself!

When the Dolphins, Pats, and Bills sweep the Jets this season and they fall to 5-11 fans will be furious. Tebow will be exposed as a fraud QB. Sparano will once again prove he is clueless and incapable of running a modern day offense, and Rex the Hut will be the scapegoat for all that is wrong. He will waddle out of the front door with a box full of foot fancy magazines.

Mallet last season instead of D Thomas, and Richardson this year would of been the perfect scenario..

Clue, Trent has all the earmarks of being in the Peterson, Ricky talent sphere though. He's special.

Mark in Toronto | March 30, 2012 at 11:39 AM

I watched his Pro day and you hit it right on the head Mark, I thought I was looking at Ricky 2.0 and then some when you consider that the reason Ricky dropped to 5 with The Edge going 1st was that Williams was not a good receiver out of the backfield. He worked on it as a Pro but it was a weakness in his game coming out and Richardson made some nifty catches. My only knock on him is that we never went anywhere with Ricky even when he piled up the yards, A.P. in Minnesota or D.Williams and Stewart in Carolina are other great examples, S. Jackson on St Louis ect... In today's game if you can't throw your elite runner is wasted. For his sake given he is a top 10 talent which I never believed Ingram to be he better hope he ends up somewhere like Tampa were enough pieces have been added at WR were teaming him with Blount can make them playoff caliber.

Hey this Jets hater is great! I hope he sticks around! Hey Home how was your protest? Was it big? A lot of people show up? Has Ireland been fired?

Home will you rub some hot oil on our boobies and around our G-strings?

Thank you Phins78. I will be around as long as I'm needed.

Now it seems many of you are going out of your way to convince yourselves Tannehill is worth the pick at 8. That still won't make him any better than the 3rd round project QB he really is. Why didn't Sherman go? I believe to save face. He knows Tanny, and didn't want to show up and diss him later by not drafting him. Ireland and Philbin were merely doing due diligence, in case maybe he falls much further, and possible also for strategic reasons, make other teams think they are interested so they can hide their true hand.

Mark @ 11:38am,

My thoughts EXACTLY. Everything you said above I agree with. I read one of your earlier posts about if get it wrong with him then we just do this again in 2015. My thoughts exactly. Tired of these guys going to other teams and doing well and us not taking a chance.

Kris, we couldn't be further in our thinking....which is what you'd expect. I have no interest in Mallet, as you know....but I think Tannehill is worth the risk. I'm wondering if we're different on this one just because I like Tannehill, don't like Mallett and I still like Fisher...LOL. Interesting how two people see things so very different.

Mark, I never asked you....how was the Van Halen show? Gotta run but I'll check in later.

Every year there is some hot shot QB who flies up the boards then flames out on draft day, nothing but a pawn in draft day poker. I don't believe Cleveland makes this move at 4 and ain't 100% sold on us doing it either, although given his physical prowess I wouldn't knock it. If Blackmon is gone which I believe he will be to the Browns some might consider with Claiborne probably long gone as well that we may be looking at Micheal Floyd here with another minimal trade down to middle of Rd.1, just some outta the box thinking but we have a need and I believe Floyd is a top 10 talent you just hope the stories aren't all together true about his binge drinking which for an athlete is problematic.

The Dolphins pounded the Jets into crying in their locker room after the game last season. Players were seen CRYING at their lockers as Dolphins players were celebrating in the other room. It's a beautiful thing. But Jets fans have been used to this their entire lives. I mean when you only have two division wins,,,,,,,hear that? TWO DIVISION WINS IN THEIR ENTIRE HISTORY, you spend a lot of time looking up at the Dolphins and wondering why they are so much better. The Dolphins went from 1-15 to winning the division by beating the Jets in the series finally and facilitating the firing of Mangina. My God, the stories of dominance are endless.

Ross gave us all a stack of hundred dolllar bills and took us to the Davie Ale House for drinks, if we would stay out of the spotlight.

Then Ross gave us Garrard jerseys

I took the money, I'm not stupid
but I wiped my azzz with the Garrard jersey and flushed it in the toilet, after failing to sell it for one dollar.

The toilet backed up at the Davie Ale House and the whole place was flooded with sewer water.

Ross said this makes him feel more at home with the stank sewer smell rising up & permeating thru like in his dilapidated stadium filled with garbage.

Anyway I used some of the money to but Tebow JETS jerseys for me, Fireman ED, Spike Lee, Al Sharpton, Channing Crowder, Joey Porter,Steelers safety Clark and mailed one back to Jeffrey Ireland's wife.

How was your day Phins78?

Fact is Mallet hasn't played a down yet, so we can't really say he would have been a better pick than Thomas..........in my humblest of opinions

I got my Tebow jersey!

Ohio, Mallett a QB who was a borderline 1st rounder, selecting him in the 3rd round was a better vaule than Thomas. Even if he becomes a bust, it was still worth the risk.

Fireman ED= pathetic loser that even espn make fun of.

Spike Lee= Pathetic racist who almost got an elderly couple in Fla killed with a tweet.

Al Sharpton= Pathetic racist, period.

Channing Crowder= Can't tackle, Can't catch, can't cover, can't make big plays, BUT,,,, "HE'S incredible in the film room".

Joey Porter= Pathetic uneducated thug who can't speak english and regularly gets in fist fights ,,,AS AN ADULT.

Steelers safety Clark= Pathetic bitter player on his way out who is still mad the Dolphins didn't fall for his lie and make him a huge offer. Was just trying to squeeze more money out of Pitt and when it didn't happen he blamed the Dolphins. Such a credible guy.

Tim Tebow= Pathetic QB

Interesting draft trade scenario would be with the Eagles. There are rumors they want to take a QB to groom behind Vick (also Vick only has one more year of guaranteed money so Eagles could go in another direction next year without much cap hit) and they were at the Pro Day. I would take a trade back to 15 and one of the Eagles 2nd rd picks and a 3/4th if they fall in love with Tannehill. Reid and company have pulled off trade ups in the past.

Talking about value of picks, yes your point is correct. I'm just saying the product on the field is still remaining to be seen. Thomas showed signs of being a good player if he can stay healthy.

But, you are right on the fact that we in 5 years Mallet could be starting and doing well, who knows.

So it seems you think the Dolphins problem is the fact they have failed to address the QB in the draft in the higher rounds in the past. Don't you think they should at least take the risk on Tanny this year then?

In all seriousness Home. HOW DID THE PROTEST GO?

You were relentless for days. "3/29/12" "Fireland" and all of the millions of posts about the pizza being free.

Then the day after this thing takes place NO ONE reports on it, their are no pictures, and even you go silent?

So does that mean you are a complete joke and should be ignored? Was that your goal, to get everyone in here to scroll over all of your posts?

I know some have already started ignoring you and I'll be joining them soon enough but I'm so curious I can't help but question you on this?

WHAT HAPPENED? Helllooooooooooooo? What happened with the protest?

Oh no! Not Patrick Turnerrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Whatever shall we do?!

You should have asked him then if Blackmon was the pick so you could have scooped everybody from NFL Net to ESPN!!
Posted by: fin4life | March 30, 2012 at 11:31 AM

fin4life I am not really sure what you want me to tell you other than I definitely spoke with Childress boarding that plane. It took off at 6:20 and landed Ft. Meyers just before 11:00. He sat in coach and row 9 seat E. He was right behind me as we boarded and he started the conversation when he commented on the book was holding.

That all said, he seemed like a really good guy and he wasn't sharing anything specific with me. The Browns are, according to media reports, having Tannehill in for a visit. They may fall in love with him and decide to draft him.

All I am saying is that based on my discussion it didn't strike me that they are going to take him at #4. I think the Fins should take Couples at #8. They NEED another major pass rusher to help Wake. That makes our Defense better right NOW.

If Tannehill is there round #2 we should grab him then. I really think he could be there.

Just my thoughts.

Nice! Jet Haters in the house!!!!!!! Wouldn't it be beautiful if everyone just signed in under a name disparaging the stinking Jets? This should not be a comfortable place for Jets fans to hang out. Sorry guys, ignoring him is not working by the looks of it.

Read about it for weeks, what happened to the protest?

Ohio, My biggest problem with Tannehill is that he has only 19 career college. As I stated before, what Top 10 QB in the league has has had 19 or less career college starts at the most position on the field? He may have all the tools but he wont be ready to start in a couple of years and in todays NFL rookie are expected to contribute within 2 years. I.E.(Cam Newton)Im not so sure Tanehill will be.

Read about it for weeks, what happened to the protest?

I now admit that part of the reason the Dolphins were so mediocre the whole time I was there had a lot to do with me. I thought as soon as they cut me teams would be knocking down my door. But the next day the phone was silent, and the next, and the next, AND THEN IT RANG! I was so excited but that soon turned to disappointment when my agent told me no one had called. We then decided to come up with a story about me "taking a year off" so I didn't look like a complete waste of a player. This way no one would know what the interest might have been from other teams and then maybe someone would make the mistake of signing me the following year. My phone is still silent, but that's okay because I have this radio gig where I squawk into a microphone all day long, it's going well.

Hooommmmeeeee????????!!!!!!! Where are you? Don't run away now my lunch break is almost over! Where's my answer? HOW DID THE PROTEST GO?!

You were posting every minute on the minute for weeks and now you go silent? WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE PROTEST? 3/29/12 don't you remember? It was just yesterday! Was the radio station there? Were there more than hmmmmmmmmmmm, 12 people there? Certainly you could get more than 12 people to show up right? WHAT HAPPENED?

Craig, the Van halen show was awesome. I was seated in the second row at side stage. That made for an obstructed view for the front of the drum set but otherwise it was a magical vantage point. I even got to see some of the behind the stage stuff which was cool. I also noted the parading of the wh0res to the backstage area during the show. Rock n Roll, baby!

Roth was Roth, crap singer but awesome showman. He can still pull off the high kicks and stuff. And at one point he had the ACC rocking louder than I've ever heard the place in my life. During "Everybody Wants Some", he just stopped during the part of the tune when he breaks it down and man, that place came unhinged.

I got some pretty good video on my handheld of Panama and the encore "jump". Was well worth my $170 ticket at cost and paying for my buddy to go with me too because for some reason, none of my close friends are big enough fans of the band to drop that kind of money. Oh well, at least he treated me to The Keg before the show. Awesome St. Patricks Day in all.

Thanks for asking Craig. I also have tickets for the Scorpions in July at the Amphitheatre and Kiss and Motely Crue at Darien Lake in September. Working on getting pretty good Aerosmith tickets at the ACC for July and Def Leppard and Poison tickets in hamilton for the same month too.

What can I say, I love my rock!!
