Jeff Ireland is not the devil

This post is not going to be popular. This post absolutely will not fit the current popular narrative surrounding the Dolphins the past week. And I don't take this undertaking lightly because I don't enjoy taking a bullet for someone who is not my family or close friend.

But ...

This Jeff Ireland hatred is getting more than a tad ridiculous.

To begin, I cannot say I agree with every single move Ireland makes. I don' agree with his approach with the media. I am aware agents talk behind his back (if they do it with me I'm assuming they do it with others) and complain of an arrogance that is baffling and approach that sometimes borders on bullying.

But I also do not agree he is a total screwup and gets everything wrong -- maybe that's because he doesn't.

I thought the David Garrard signing was a very good one, assuming the projected use for him is what I believe it will be and isn't followed by a crazy chase of Alex Smith or Tim Tebow. I thought the re-signing of Paul Soliai at a bargain price -- $6 million per year when he had a bigger deal on the table with Denver and for a price that is half of what the team paid last year -- was a coup that got whitewashed in the negative theme of the day.

I like the fact the Dolphins held to their guns in coming to a organizational value for Matt Flynn, remembering that coach Joe Philbin knows this guy as well as anyone. People are saying Flynn picked the Seahawks over the Dolphins. I think it's more accurate to say the Dolphins picked something else over Flynn because I don't believe they wanted to outbid Seattle. I like that Miami made a move to explore Alex Smith. I like that Miami won't be paying Smith $8 million a year because that's crazy money considering seven years of watching this guy has offered only one season of promising production.

I understand (I think) why the Dolphins traded Brandon Marshall. I like Marshall and think he's an engaging guy. He really is great if you speak with him. Guy's charming. But he is a trouble magnet. He is immature and the lack of a father figure in his life gives him no foundation on which to sometimes understand right from wrong and being an adult from being a kid. I believe unless that changes, he's going to be in trouble again eventually. So the move to jettison him is logical on several levels.

I also understand and cannot criticize Ireland for letting Kendall Langford go. Quick, what was the last game-changing play he made? What was his signature moment in Dolphins history? Correct, he didn't have one. He was a grunt, a role-player albeit a nice one. Certainly, he's not a guy worth $6 million per year and a $12 million guarantee, which is what he got from St. Louis.

And, because I am not a hypocrite, I also cannot rip the idea of cutting Yeremiah Bell. Bell is one of my favorite players. He's a tough blankety blank. He's a good locker room guy. But he's 34 years old and his play isn't likely to get better. And for years I've urged the Dolphins to be one of those teams that jettisons players before they totally break down and lose it rather than waiting an extra year and suffering the actual fast decline while the player is on the roster.

The Dolphins cut Bell on Monday before he completely fades out. I cannot rip them for that, considering he brings $4.3 million in cap relief. (Also, we don't know if Miami offered Bell a chance to cut his salary and he refused or not.)

So all these moves that Ireland is getting destroyed for ... tell me how they were terrible. Tell me what he should have done.

The Garrard signing, by the way, is being panned because David Garrard is not a franchise quarterback and Ireland has promised a reach for a franchise QB this offseason. "We need to add a quarterback that can get us over the hump," he's told The Miami Herald.

No kidding. That's been the case for a decade, including five offseasons during Ireland's employment in Miami. And Garrard is not that guy.

But Ireland hasn't said he is. Ireland hasn't said that's his signature QB move of the spring. Seems to me Garrard is a move to add a veteran backup presence who might get a shot to win a job in the short-term. Hello? Compeition is good.

Unless I miss my guess, the Dolphins aren't done adding at quarterback. I believe they will draft a kid on which the club's future hopes will rest. At least that is my sense.

Maybe that rookie will be a bust. Maybe he'll be a star. The point is to rip Ireland for a move not yet made in an offseason not yet complete is hating for hating's sake.

On that front, there's plenty headed in Ireland's direction now. I hear there is a fan protest scheduled for today to rip Ireland. On Sunday, Pittsburgh safety Ryan Clark ripped Ireland on twitter and blamed him for Miami's ills and talked of how "the guy running things is not a good" person.

Then yesterday on NFL Network, former Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter blew up Ireland on national television. He blamed the Dolphins inability to close on, say, Peyton Manning and Flynn on Ireland.

"I think Jeff Ireland has a big part to do with it," Porter said. "I don't think when you come in being recruited by him, you totally believe things coming out of his mouth. I think he's a guy that's not trustworthy. He really doesn't hold up to what a GM's supposed to be."

Well, I really don't think Porter holds up to what a man is supposed to be. Porter is a great guy to have on a team when things are good. But as soon as things go bad, he becomes part of the problem. And as soon as he's no longer getting his way or is out of contract, he bites the hand that feeds him. He previously blew up Cam Cameron. He previously blew up Tony Sparano. He previously blew up Mike Tomlin.

The guy has a history for ripping people that either cut him, let him go in free agency, or stood up to him. So while you don't have to dismiss his criticism, at least understand where it originates.

By the way, this idea that Miami can't land anyone is getting on my nerves. No, they didn't get Harbaugh. No, they didn't land Fisher. No, they didn't get Manning. Which one of those was Ireland responsible for?

Manning, of course.

Well, the Dolphins didn't get Manning. And neither did San Francisco, Arizona, or Tennessee. The Jets, Kansas City, and Seattle all have good to outstanding GMs. None of them could even get a meeting with Manning. So Ireland is a bad guy because the Dolphins swung and missed on Peyton Manning?

Look, I do not agree with every move Ireland makes. To me, the Manning chase was a waste of time that I didn't agree with. I would have been in Mario Williams' jock and tried to sign him and I would have outbid Kansas City for Eric Winston. It would have been two blue chip additions to the team and my overall talent would have gone way up.

Instead the Dolphins are shopping at K-Mart with Artis Hicks and Jamaal Westersomebody.

I also would have gone to the wall (yes, even giving up FOUR first round picks) to land Robert Griffin III. I would have gotten my franchise QB one way or another. Ireland didn't.

But does that make the guy a loser? A man to revile?

Someon hacked into Ireland's Wikipedia page Tuesday and edited in some unkind things about him being born in a Denny's parking lot etc... Maybe that sounds funny to you. Maybe you're cheering the imagination of that move. I guess I'm not talking to you.

I am talking to the folks who are thinking for themselves. Break down the moves on their own merit. Tell me what you would have done. Tell me where you would depart from the current course.

Be fair.

Obviously, Ireland hasn't gotten all his moves right in the past. By the way, no one does. And the pressure is on him to land some, you know, actual stars this offseason because the Dolphins don't have any of those.

He might do that. He might not. But I'm not ready to say this guy is the devil for blowing it when we're only one week into free agency and the draft is on the horizon. I don't judge a team's gameday performance in the second quarter.

I wait until the game's over.

Ireland sucks. End of story. To type one more word on it is just a waste of bandwidth.

But momma says jeff Ireland is the devil

I totally disagree with this and I know many of you will diss me on this. The only thing I agree on is Brandon Marshall who is a trouble magnet that the bears had a load on.

The fact that I lost my respect in Ireland is the way how he handled our QB situation. My only hope for him is to trade for Tim Tebow. He has led the Broncos to the playoffs but us getting a 1st down might be trouble with Tim Tebow. That's why a lot of Dolfans are not satisfied even with this trade. (Don't think it will happen anyway)

None of his moves are bold enough to make Miami a winning team. He's not committed to winning only on rebuilding. We have been a losing season streak for 4 years. Haven't we been through enough. Not even the QB's want to come here because maybe of Ireland. Jeff Fisher didn't want to come here because he can't have a say on the team. Then we settle for Philbin. Forget about it. It's time I say Ireland has to get out of Miami plain and simple.

At least "HALF" of Bell's 100 tkles were because of his lack of coverage skills OC's and qb's targeted him. The stat most worthy of watching are the int's and pd's(passes defensed).

He shouldve had a bunch of tackles being a primary target by offenses and not getting picks or pd's. Tackling the recievers after making those catches were the least he could do. Geesh some dolfans have short memories.

What a piece of crap article.

You're trying to convince the majority that Ireland doesn't have a bad rep? Isn't Condescending? Arrogant? Abrassive? Who are you kidding? Apparently some dolts here buy it which is even sadder!

EVERY SINGLE OTHER MEDIA OUTLET reports differently. Why? Who's being objective & who's a homer? Look in the mirror buddy!

You have a few fans. Based on some of the idiots here who actually believe there is this big media outlet conspiracy to hate us & slant the news. What a friggin joke this is. You should be ashamed of yourselves as fans!

The media don't hate us, they pity us!

Tebow has had three dynamic performances at Sun Life Stadium.

In 2005, he led Ponte Vedra-Neese High to a state championship in his final game.

In 2009, he led the Gators to the BCS Championship against Oklahoma.

In 2011, he led the Broncos to one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history. They became the first team since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 to erase a 15-point deficit with less than three minutes remaining.

It was the first of six late comebacks for Denver. Tebow ultimately led the 1-4 Broncos to an 8-8 regular-season record and a dramatic overtime victory over Pittsburgh in the first round of the playoffs. :)

Home you are always right, why just last week ou mentioned something about Manning... Moron

and home is a moron. a 40% passer who should not be allowed on a field as a qb

draft wide receiver first 2 rounds of the draft, pick up a pass rusher in free agency, stop complaining because nobody can predict the future and you dont win the super bowl by just signing people. chemistry has alot to do with it.

I'm thawing out of my Winter of Discontent. I've told you guys my cycle (I get excited and optimistic closer to the Season, then get pessimistic after the Season). Due to the milder Winter (I guess), I'm getting Spring Fever sooner.

Plus, I gotta walk the walk if I talked the talk. I was ALL ABOUT getting your QB from the Draft (so how can I complain)? I was ALL ABOUT new philosophies and ways of doing things (so how can I shoot them down now before seeing what difference they might make).

I was ALL ABOUT getting rid of the dead weight on the team and bringing in new talent.

So I'd be very hypocritical if I dismissed all that JUST BECAUSE I'm no big fan of Ireland.

What I was trying to explain to you earlier is that I try to be fair. I don't (or TRY not to) let my dislike of Ireland color everything he does. Armando is right, he's made some good moves. Not sure if they were the BEST moves he could have made at the time, but that's the past, now's now.

If he helps Philbin get to where we all want to be, then Ireland will deserve (and receive) the credit he's due.

What this post fails to poinnt out is that Ireland is not perceived as a man who is trustworthy or pleasant to work for, simple as that. Players and coaches do not trust or like this guy, why, hmmm the prostittute question to Dez Bryant that he should have been fired on the spot for, how many successful GMs have done a similar thing and more telling and recently, the way he accompnied Ross on the Harbaugh chase while Sparano was still here and the fact that he is still here after Sparano has gone. Yes Porter may be a loud mouth and have bitterness towards Ireland but what he is saying is what the NFL players and coaches believe to be true.
Their is never any public addresses by the Dolphins to refute anything or keep fans in the picture at all, it all has to be a secret all the time.
Manning - Had doubts about Miami's management structure.
Flynn - Preferred the vibe in Seattle from the coaches and front office to Miami
These are telling statements, hell Manning didnt even want to meet with Ireland or Ross, what does this scream out to people, true or not this IS the perception that has to be changed for this club to ever sign anyone worthy again. How to do it, who the hell knows, firing Ireland would be a great start, hiring someone respected to run football operations is also a good move as Ross constantly makes mistakes which make this franchise appear to be even more of a joke. He has good intentions but he is clueless to everyone outside.
Again this is not the player moves, it is everything else and something has to be done.
Ireland cannot keep hiding in silence, how many other teams have fans protesting at the gates, flying banners, booing home games.

And then Tebow went against a real NFL team and was slaughtered.

Personally, I am holding off opinion on Jeff Ireland's approach until after the draft.

Sure, my top three options as to what would make me happy were:

Andrew Luck
Peyton Manning

Turns out options one and three were never really realistic. Option 2 was very expensive so fine, I can see how they passed as long as they come up with a viable option.

Viable options still out there are Brandon Weeden and Ryan Tannehill who both have first round grade talents for their positions it seems. Some may say they would be a reach, I don't care personally. Recent examples of reaches have not been collosal failures - Joe Flacco was a reach, Josh Freeman was a reach, and nobody in those two cities are looking to replace them. Parcells loved Flacco and crapped the bed when he was selected. I think if you have conviction, take the guy, don't try to line up value with your draft selection too much or you may end up empty handed and that will kill you. Like it did last year when Ireland valued Thomas over Mallett and undervalued Dalton and Kaepernick.

I do like that he passed on Flynn and Smith. I don't think they lost on Flynn, I think they just weren't that crazy about him and who would know better than Coach Philbin?

You want to build through the draft than take one of these two guys in the first round, don't fukk around for the sake of a pass rusher or wide receiver. Those two positions are found all over the draft, trades, and free agency. QBs are not.

Guess youre advocating a wishbone offense in Miami. Its the only offense suitable for Tebow's skill.

I know! We can become the 1970's version of the Oklahoma Sooners! LOL

Jeff Ireland wanted Peyton Manning to take off his clothes so he could look at him naked for further observation

Peyton declined and would not come anywhere near the Dolphin's training facility or Jeff Ireland

Rumor had it Jeff had to wait in the car in Indy while the new rookie bald coach interviewed the sheepish Peyton

If we are wrongfully criticizing Irieland why hasn't he come out and explain to the fans what is going on? If he intends to buy all the tickets for all the home games this year we have no problem with that otherwise he and his buddy Ross should step up and speak!

New NFL QB Tebow, right out of the gate beat the stuffing out of the Dolphins, Jets and Steelers to name a few in the AFC

Go Tebow!

Go Gators!

Go Phins!

He's baaaack. Hide your kids & farm animals!

First, I have respect for you as a writer. However, I believe your post left some important points unmentioned or under-emphasised.

Before getting to that, I will say that the hacking into Ireland's Wikipedia page is an Occupy Wall Street style move and totally inappropriate. You know Jeff Ireland and maybe he's a decent guy and maybe he's not; he's still human and criticism of him should be restricted to his GM performance.

I supported Parcells and Ireland when they first came to Miami. That support began to crash with the Dez Bryant fiasco. I was shocked that the Dolphins did not fire Ireland on the spot. Instead some weak apologies were issued and the issue has become a long running joke that hurts not only Ireland professionally, but the Dolphins.

Probably every free agent and every rookie is going to think that Ireland is the one who asked that cruel question to Dez Bryant. Even Peter King mentioned it yesterday in his long write up of the Dolphins lost decade.

Which brings up a point you made: That Ireland does not deal well with the media. Like it or not, being the GM of a NFL team requires one to deal with the media, and not just to use them. If Ireland was able to do better PR, he might be able to fix his past mistakes and put a better perspective on things.

BUT...that brings up another issue you mention -- that Ireland is arrogant and a borderline bully according to agents. Some players feel the same. This, too, is something that Ireland can change.

Another issue is that Ireland helped to destroy his friendship with Sparano at the end of the 2010 season. Everyone makes mistakes. Perhaps Ireland wishes he could do it differently now. In any case, Ross shares the blame for that.

All the above issues (actions by Ireland as GM) affect the perception of Ireland. When things go wrong on the field, then the criticism, much of it too harsh, is going to be intense. Having said that, the Dolphins have not been well managed and their results have been quite poor.

The salary cap: As you have mentioned, it's not good that a team with no playmakers and a 6-10 record has no cap space. Not good at all.

Drafting: Other than Jake Long, there has not been any elite talent drafted (although a couple may, or may not, become elite). The two 2nd round picks for QB's? Neither is on the team today. The Dolphins trade up for a RB and other teams find them as street free agents.

The O-Line? A disaster. Pass defense? A joke. These units have had plenty of personnel resources focused on them, but the talent/performance has been severely lacking.

Free Agency: Columbo. Dallas Cowboy rejects. Etc.

Moore was a nice find. Wake, an excellent one. Resigning the NT at a low price makes one wonder why he was franchised last year. In any case, that move kept some talent from leaving the team.

Trading Marshall? Who knows. The talent is going to be missed if the Dolphins do not find other WR options.

Missing on Winston - we're in agreement; it looks like a mistake.

I'm not confident that the Dolphins are going to find a QB in the draft that is going to work out. Value picks rarely develop into elite QB's. The Dolphins have spent 5 second round picks on trades and picks for QB's in the past decade.

I will disagree with Peter King; Ireland does not need to hit a single to change things. He needs to hit it out of the park, with the bases loaded.

The Dolphins are in year FIVE of a rebuild. They were 6-10 last year. They are on their third head coach, third offensive coordinator, and third QB.

The Detroit Lions were 0-16 and yet made the playoffs in year three of their rebuild.

IF reports of Ireland being arrogant and bullying are true (no idea if they are or not), then he needs to fix that. Not with apologies alone, but amends. It will help him personally and help his job performance as well. I actually tend to want people to succeed in life and Ireland is no exception.

You are totally right that Jeff Ireland is not the devil. He's a human person like all of us.

But is he the right GM for the Dolphins now? That's the real question.

But home. Manning is going to be out next QB. whoo hoo.

Tebow WINS !!!

The Dolphins suck so bad, no playoff wins in a decade

Go Tebow!

Armando for the first time ever since I've been reading your articles I can say now you are an idiot. Just look at the end results of the last 3 seasons; 7-9, 7-9, and 6-10. Look at the draft the past 3/4 seasons. Do we really have any playmakers? You think trading down has been the right strategy, while other teams win lotteries with their picks? This guy (Ireland) is disrespectful and has no clue what so ever in picking talent. He is the wrong guy Ross (who is clueless when it comes to football) has, to be giving him advice and plans on the operations side of the mission. No one, not even you, knows what goes on behind close doors with these meetings when they bring the Mannings, Flynns, etc. But its obvious that this guy Ireland has built a reputation where notable talented players are refusing to come down here. Every off season, its the same thing over and over again-lots of promises, that they're going to do this and that and at the end, nothing significant happens. With all those really good talented players in free agency, we didn't get one? Worth a damn? This team is below average and we have little cap space? Why not make cap space by getting rid of at least 1/3rd of these sorry players on the roster now? And then go after at least one or two really talented player/players like Winston or Mario Williams. I guess what I'm trying to say is there are other ways of making this team a lot better and more significant, It doesn't take a rocket scientist. These are some of many more reasons this guy Ireland is a turd! I'm sorry but you are very wrong on this one Mando.

Only an idiot would want tebow at quarterback..........i could see him as gronkowski 2.0..........but not a qb

Good to see, but don't forget about 'balance'. I still think the expectations should be low this year. I think Ireland wants to do this properly. We balloned in '08 from our 1-15 season to 11-5. The reality is the roster wasn't good enough. You put a young QB on this team and a couple of talented young receivers and get a RT and pass rush and this will become an up and coming team. I have faith in Philbin too. Adding guys like Smith and Flynn would have been the wrong way to go. It just further delays the inevitable. I'm not sure what keeping Marshall this year woould have done. 7-9 and 6-10 with him. How long before he either loses patience with the team or does something stupid? If we're not close now, then deal him while he has some value. I applaud this move. Now if we can replace with a player for a FRACTION of the cost, all the better.

Ireland wanted to look into Peyton's brown eye for further study

Manning said to Ireland,
"You Must Be Crazy?"

"You Must Be Nuts!"

why is ireland still here? (sorry about the lengthy post)
answer is obvious...it's captain obvious.
1)wayne hires the tuna-most fans rejoice
2)tuna gets tony & jeff-we say who?but in tuna we trust
3)we learn/see tuna has a HUGE/BLOATED/INFLATED EGO
4)in 4 years tony proves he cant coach girls hopscotch/he's gone
5)tuna,like isray and houdini, vanishes.
6)for the first time in his gm career ireland is really in charge.anyone who doubts this see #3
7)yes ireland(as well as ross)should defer all future speaking to joe philbin, but in 2011 & 2012 he:
-does not give in & trade for blane "happy feat"gabbert
-drafts what every pass offense needs:a stud center
-drafts/signs future WC offense studs:thomas,clay,bush
-takes a flyer on a troubled wilson who kicks a##
-brings in gates.yeah not a great wr,but KR/PR?maybe
-refuses to give in to the kyle orten frenzy
-signs an excellent backup/stopgap guy in matt moore
-does not overpay for henne,rg3,flynn,or smith
-signs another good backup/stopgap in garrad
-MOST IMPORTANT hires a 21st century coach who has backbone, charactor, and pedigree.

now finish the job and draft cousins, tannehill,or osweiler, 2 stud wc type wr's, a tackle, and as many/olb j.t. type qb assasins that you can find

Bye the way, jt if you read this get your bro zack and maybe tim bowens and hunt down peter king, ryan clark, and joey potter and make them disappear

..and when tebow went up against a real team in the patriots he got his head handed to him. moore did a better job than tebow against the pats and tebow is never going to be as good as moore. he's got a noodle for an arm. the fact that denver wasted a first round pick on tebow doesn't mean that miami should have to eat it.

We had one of the best,if not THE best pure passer in Dan Marino as Our quaterback. And only played in ONE Super Bowl.
Tim Tebow is a WINNER! Perhaps some on you want don't like him because he doesn't win according to your paradigm. But @WINNING is what it's ALL ABOUT! And my fellow Dolphans Tim Tebow JUST WINS! He gets it done. No matter what.

Only an idiot would want tebow at quarterback..........i could see him as gronkowski 2.0..........but not a qb

Why do you think Homer, homely, home wants him? He's an idiot!

Makes sense don't it?

The Patriots added Robert Gallery and just made their defense better with free agency. The jets added Laron Landry. The Bills Mario Williams. Miami? Art Hicks, Dave Garrard, and some guy Wethersomethig. Are you phuckin kiddin me?

Good morning guys,

I said last week that you can't rip Ireland and to give him a chance and see what he can do but maybe that was me just hoping. But if you take a look overall he has had just 1 season out of the shadow of Bill Parcells. In that 1 season and you can't base an entire draft after just 1 season but he netted:

Mike Pouncey - looks to be a good to very good player someday.

Daniel Thomas - looks to be at least a good player when healthy. The guy looked like he was a feature caliber RB against the Texans and then vs the Browns but unfortunately he couldn't shake off the inmjuries and finished with just 3.5 per carry. He could be a legit giving he stays healthy.

Clyde Gates - appears to be a swing and a miss. He only has straight line speed and he isn't very tall to win jump balls and is already 25. I say he won't be around Miami for a very long tenure.

Charles Clay - He looks a very good late round steal. He was very productive for a 6th round pick. He seemed to create mismatches when they actually used him.

The think Ireland has a decent eye for talent. Skill position player's are not his specialty though and that's what Miami needs. He hasn't drafted a skill player worth a leading role or a good, very good or star caliber player since he has been on the job. I think what Miami is NOW is what we will CONTINUE to see under Ireland. He will draft building block after building block but doesn't have the agressive nature to pull the trigger and trade up for a star caliber player like RG3 or Blackmon. He'd rather not swing and miss completely in round 1 and instead go solid with Pouncey and probably had a lot to do with Odrick.

Miami will try to pass off the team concept while teams with stars and game changers make the playoffs and win Super Bowls.

While the Dolphins suck with three losing season's in a row, TEBOW WINS AGAIN!

In 2011, he led the Broncos to one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history. They became the first team since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 to erase a 15-point deficit against Jeff Ireland and The low Miami Dolphins franchise with less than three minutes remaining.

It was the first of six late comebacks for Denver. Tebow ultimately led the 1-4 Broncos to an 8-8 regular-season record and a dramatic overtime victory over Pittsburgh in the first round of the playoffs.

The Dolphins suck so bad, no playoff wins in a decade

Go Tebow!

Sell Ross Sell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lets eject Jeff Irecrap out of here!!!!!!!!!

Tebow = Sellouts

plus Tebow would be playing under Gator center Mike Pouncey again :)

Right now the Dolphin’s franchise is an absolute mess

Just The Facts:
NOBODY is wasting their Sunday and hundreds of dollars to watch QB Moore or QB Garrard
NOBODY is excited about these field generals

We dont care about the naysayers
There are plenty of Gator & Tebow fans to fill this Florida stadium

Go Gators!

I don't understand how ANYBODY can rip Ireland so soon after St. Patrick's day.

Armando You Are Gutless. Jeff Ireland Has Proven Time And Time Again That He Is Inept. Ireland has absolutely no clue and along with a few others has done an excellent job of driving this proud organization to the ground. (2) Examples of where Ireland has failed miserably:

1) Unable to acquire a Quarterback that could make a difference; Unwilling to make a bold move...aka Washington...and go all out for a Quarterback...RGIII...That may become a bonafide difference maker.

2) Trades Our Best Playmaker In Brandon Marshall for basically no compensation...Say what you will about Marshall off the field...On the field he is a beast...Now we are left with Bess for crying out loud.

The Phins have been mediocre to terrible for several years now...Most Dolphin Fans are losing patience....I get no indication that Ireland and or Clueless Ross Have Any Idea What The Freak They Are Doing...and just when I think I have seen it all....Jeff Ireland and Stephen Ross Do Something Even more stupid....Anyways....Whatever...........

Home 4 Christ's Sake ;)
March 20, 2012 at 10:05 am

Pro Bowl MVP Brandon Marshall had only 6 TDs playing all of last season

Tim Tebow had 6 4th Q or overtime comeback WINS and scored 6 TDs himself rushing in only twelve games

Oh yeah Tebow’s first pass on overtime was a TD and Tebow threw for almost 10,000 YDs in college, … so maybe he is In- Orthodox at QB but he still WINS!

Tebow scored 15 points against the Dolphins 6 ranked defense w 2 min left in their own house and then beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Playoffs

Dolphin have not even sniffed a Playoff Win in over a decade!!

Just Saying, … Go Gators ! Go Tebow! :)

Something for everyone:

Saturday college game days u can watch the Miami Hurricanes at the stadium

Sunday U can get Gator & Dolphin LOVE at the stadium

U dont like it, then dont go

Tebow is a winner and a lot of fun to watch

Go Gators!

Go Phins!

I don't hate Ireland on a personal level, BUT, considering his job performance, he's not doing very well. As Bill Parcells once said, you are what your record says you are. 7-9. The Dolphins are an average team that has shown no sign of improvement. Does anyone really think the Dolphins will do any better than 8-8 next season? Heck, I'd be pleasantly surprised if they went 8-8. I think what has everyone so upset is that Dolphins fans have gone from always believing this season could be our year to always believing this season will be another average to below-average season with no hope for the future. It's depressing being a Dolphins fan these days.

Here's what you need to know about the phin fans ok with Ireland...

Ireland has had a hand in assembling a roster that has gone 11-5 to 7-9 to 7-9 to 6-10.

Now, it's being rebuilt by the same guy? Sounds like textbook definition of insanity, don't it?

Hoping for a different result this time around is idiotic helps explains home & a few others!

They know who they are. They are ALWAYS here, spamming the blog with their hope & optimism to the point of nauseum, with no care in the world for objectivity, logic or common sense!

Sapp and Porter's opinions are both completely worthless on any subject matter, they are both morons flapping out the mouth just to hear themselves talk. Idiots.

I hate the moves made this off-season, and am not an Ireland supporter. But kudos to Mando for not just falling in line with the rest of the mainstream media! So sick of he becoming the "cool" thing to do to write a nasty article about the Dolphins in general this year. Irresponsible journalism just for the sake of entertainment and ratings.

Many of our own fans want the negativity to continue to "force" the dolphins to get rid of Ireland. Just be careful what you wish for. The negativity toward our team could easily last past Ireland. do you want to be the old Lions for the next 3 decades too?

As fans we need more OBJECTIVE thoughts and opinions rather than SUBJECTIVE........since we can't count on the media for that.

Only way Tebow comes here is to sell tickets and jerseys and if Ross orders it. To me if this happens all bets are off. This will become a big distraction and be useless for the organization. If that happens then it's about makig money, rather than being an improving football team. Don't want this.

Mark in TO, I've been on the Weeden bandwagon for a while now but I think if they draft him he needs to start right away. I think he could do that but not with Moore and Garrard now on the team. To me it'll be Tannehill (if there), with the two vets keeping the pressure off him until he's ready. FINALLY!....a plan!

Great post Mando. People like Warren Sapp and Joey Porter ripping Ireland make me laugh. Ryan Clark is a joke because he used the Dolphins to get more money out of the Steelers and then rips them. He never had any intention of signing with them. Obviously the only QB they thought was better than what they already have is Manning. Garrard is veteran depth behind Moore and they will draft a QB to groom behind he and Moore. Ireland I thought did a good job HIS FIRST YEAR IN CONTROL AND NOT HAVING PARCELLS HAVE FINAL SAY ON MOVES. People need to calm down. We still have the rest of free agency, the draft, and the post draft and June 1 cuts to improve our team. Also, I like Bell but I saw somewhere he was the 74th rated safety out of 87 last year with a 6.2 mil cap figure. Hopefully we resign him at a cheaper rate but if not so be it. If Peyton Manning can be cut, anyone can.

Dolphins lose there best offensive player and lose their defensive captain and leading tackler

but hire a scrub back up QB coming off of spine surgery!

Go Jeff Ireland, Go! lol

anyone expecting sellouts?

Ozkar...in defence of my Mallett man-crush.... i will ask you this ONE question....

Do you trust this FO to properly evaluate Talent?

If your answer is no...the do you believe they properly evaluated Mallett and his potential?

OK....2 questions...

The PATS have the luxery to bury Mallett on the pine...but that in no way doesn't mean he coudn't be starting for another QB starved team...

saying tim tebow is a winner is like saying matt flynn is a franchise quarterback. does anyone really think tebow is going to win games this year? he was in the right place at the right time in 2011. last year was an anomaly because of the lockout.
this team has a lot more talent on it than people give them credit for. the problem is the coaching wasn't getting the job done. if you look at how they played in the 2nd half of the season they finally began to play like they should have all year.
the problem was they didn't spend the requesite time on conditioning that they should have and they were at a disadvantage from day one. i don't see philbin missing the boat on that like sparano did last year.
it's been said over and over that this team could have easily quit last year but they didn't and that shows that you have some good guys with character and if you don't have character you're going to have a tough time getting anywhere. i think philbin knows he has a good base to work with. if they add some more pieces to the puzzle they will be building a franchise.
everyone wants the quick fix but i'd rather see them build a team like the pats and packers that can contend every year. who cares is you don't have any stars on the team. they don't need divas. they need players.

ONLY Tim Tebow sells out the stadium

and WINS!

On Matt Flynn,

I know how over and over it was misinterpreted that I was all in on Flynn. I did say over and over that if Philbin pushed the issue then I was all in. I did take a look at Flynn's limited highlights and liked what I saw but Philbin knows him best and if he wasn't over sold on him then neither was I. I trust everything I hear on Joe Philbin and that he is a very smart coach who worked hard from the ground up to be where he is. I trust what I hear because I have no choice but to at this point.

So it was always I am all in Flynn if Philbin "endorses" the signing. I said that over and over so I'm not ticked off Miami didn't get him but at this point I think like many other bloggers said it's going to be a down year in Miami with it's overall lack of offensive talent. They don't have enough in today's fast break NFL or enough difference makers on defense to slow these other teams down.

Craig, you're right about balance. But balance to me is after spending 4 Seasons where the ENTIRE focus seemed to be the lines, to actually focus on skill position players and build that up some before working on the lines. We have enough this year to see what they are (and what we need).

I agree with you, not expecting much out of this Season. I think it's a learning Season (for everyone). So I think we have time to fill our needs, and don't need to do it right away. We don't have a Cadillac (Moore is like a Kia), so no need to get the best of the best protection. Grab Tannehill (or Weeden). Grab a few WRs that fit the mold. And get some pass rushers, and that about the most I think we can ask for (it's not like every pick will be a hit). Then see if Jerry and those guys can be starters, and if not get some better linemen next year.

That's how I'd do it.

Puhlease. Tebow won it college? So did Gino Torretta and Eric Crouch, but I didn't see people banging down the doors for those guys.

He's won at the NFL level? Brad Johnson won a Super Bowl, but again he never had a huge following. With the exception of the Steelers game (playing against a hobbled Rothlesberger) he managed to have one good drive after doing absolutely nothing for the first three quarters while the defense kept them in the game.

Tebow's a side show, and gives you absolutely NO chance of going anywhere, except a flukey playoff berth in a terrible division.

After losing 10 games last season, Dolphins lose there best offensive player and lose their defensive captain and leading tackler

but hire a scrub back up QB coming off of spine surgery!

Go Jeff Ireland, Go! lol

Ok, who wants 6 season tickets, only $12,000.00

anyone expecting sellouts?

YO Home,Sweet Home start up the chopper !WE'RE GOING TO GO GET TIM TEBOW!

i agree with most of what you say. NO doubt the big EGO was buying the groceries in 08,09,10. as for skill positions, in his FIRST draft he resisted the urge to trade up for blaine "happy feet" gabbert...thank God. he got bush & thomas(who were not used properly in the passing game, that will change in the WC offense), and he got clay who i think can be a tom rathman like WC beast.now finish it and get cousins, tannehill,or osweiler/2 wc style wr's/a tackle/as many jt type de/olb's as possible.

Good article. I have been a Dolphin fan since George Wilson coached, and George Wilson Jr (his son) was the QB. Left Miami many years ago but still follow the Phins closely.

The problem we have isn't that Ireland is the devil, but that he is perceived to be. For that alone Ross needs to cut ties before next year.

Players will talk, and actions speak for themselves. Ireland has to do something dramatically good to climb out of the hole where he resides.

If of course if he manages an amazing draft or the Dolphins put together an unexpected great season he will gain a little respect. Without success he'll still be on everyones shite list. No he is not responsible for everything wrong with the Dolphins, but he has yet to do something great to lift them out of the mire...

Hey sod it's the WHOLE NFL NOT JUST JOEY( the jerk) and sapp. The Matt Flynn thing I think they did right cuz Philbin knows Flynn so I don't think that Philbin thought he was their guy. But let's see

Denver was 1-4 w the SAME defense

then Tebow got there and WON

not the defense

nice try pal

now go back to Devil worshiping! lol

I think Tebow is a gimmick as much as the wildcat was, and has run his course.

If you want to pull a Belichick and convert him to FB or TE, and have him active as the emergency (3rd) QB, or to be the holder on special teams, alrighty then.

But, under center? No thank you.

You're right on. The fans wants Ireland gone but you NEVER hear who they wanted him to be replaced by. The reality is they haven't likely ANYBODY since Shula left and even some of Shula's picks towards the end were questionable. If Ireland's gone, they'll learn to hate the next guy, just like they hated on Spielman and others. These guys have become the lightning rods of 40 years without a Super Bowl. I believe Ireland has a plan and the plan is modelled after those of the Steelers and Packers, who both are never very active in FA. So I think people need to get used to this. The Cowboys and Redskins take the opposite approach and it NEVER works out.

AndyNJ, I get what you said in your last post but I don't think we YET know how Ireland will be in the draft. He's taken a 'building block' approach but I think at some point he will add skill players high in the draft. They added Davis and Smith when we had glaring needs in the secondary. Some point soon I see him adding QB and WR high, maybe even this year. He has TWO extra third round picks to play with. Let's see what he does with them before we write the book on him.

Tebow scored 15 points with 2 min and change left on the clock
to BEAT the freakin Dolphins

Tebow embarrassed the Dolphins to the highest form of embarrassment in their own house

Yes, TEBOW beat them w offense

TEBOW, himself

Go Tebow!

Tebow PASSED for almost 10,000 Yds in college and rushed for 57 TDs

Beat the Dolphins, Jets and Steelers

Go Tebow!

Go Gators!
