Dolphins fan protest not as effective as possible

I love and admire Dolphins fans.

You are the reason I am employed. You feed my family and put a roof over my head. You are passionate. You are usually well-informed. Many of you are bright. And you're beaten down after a decade of unacceptable results by your once-elite football franchise.

But Tuesday's protest across the street from the Dolphins practice facility in Davie, Fl.?

Not the way to do it.

Firstly, it was hastily planned. It was modestly attended. It was not exactly exactly Martin Luther King's march on Selma, Alabama as you can see by the video I shot below.

The Dolphins recognized the gathering. The club released the following statement through a spokesman:

"We have the most passionate fans in football and they are not shy about letting their sentiments be known. We understand and we are working hard on giving them something to cheer about this season."

And here is the video:

But here is my point:

That is not the way to do it.

A gathering of two dozen Dolphins fans in the middle of the afternoon in the offseason doesn't really touch the team. It doesn't make the team feel your pain. It doesn't move the meter to force change as much as other things do.

What things?

Do. NOT. Buy. Tickets.

Do. NOT. Purchase. Jerseys.

If you are disgruntled with Miami Dolphins LLC, you have to send a message to this business by approaching it in a business manner.

And if you do have to attend the games and purchase $10 beers and $18 sandwiches in the concession stand, then do it on a day when Stephen Ross is likely to be on the field. Arrive early to Miami's home games when Ross is roaming the sideline. And then boo him lustily or chant or otherwise voice displeasure so you get his attention.

In other words, deliver the message to the person with the power to change things. And let him know you are upset in an up-close-and-personal manner.

Golden State Warriors fans took that approach this week. And it is all over the national news. And it embarrassed Warriors owner Joe Lacob. And chances are really good he now understands how toxic he has made things with Golden State fans.

There were 18,000 people gathered at the Warriors' game and they rained down holy heck on Lacob. That is much, much, much more effective than 24 souls holding up signs across from the training facility ... while Ross is home in New York.

This blog is getting way off base by losers

The Dolphins will be in last place in the AFC EAST

Pats
Jets
Bills

Miami Mullets 4-12 or 5-11

Fire the white management
Not the 2 Best Black Playas!

This blog is a disgrace. Home fits in well here!

yeah and they also have jennings, jones, finley, lol

Hey Frijole, did you get a frijole on the point of your dikk. Has happened to many.

ARMANDITO YOUR ANALYSIS OF PROTEST LIKE IN THE CASE OF THE GOLDEN STATE WARRIOR IS IRRELEVANT.
I DON'T THINK JEFFY WILL GRAB A MICROPHONE IN HALF TIME TO THANKS THE FANS OR HONOR A PLAYER.

IF YOU SEEN BOTH ROSS OR JEFFY ON THE FIELD AND START BOOING THAT'S A WRONG MESSAGE YOUR SENDING TO THE PLAYERS AS WELL.."WHY PLAY TO OUR FULL CAPACITY IF THE FANS THINK WE ARE CRA....MEAN WHILE ROSS AND JEFFY IN THE CLUB HOUSE EATING AND DRINKING LOOKING DOWN SAYING
"SUCKERS" THEY PAID $60 OR MORE TO BOO....

Jeff Ireland probably has a white hoodie in his closet in Miami

How can u fire the BEST playmaker on offense and the defensive captain, the glue of the defense that lead the team in tackles for 4 yrs

It is cuz they are black!

Hey lets all repeat what we've read in jock strap magazine about WCO doesn't require an alpha receiver and focuses on spreading the ball around. I've seen that same comment from 92 posters who read the same article somewhere.

Ok, we are impressed. You can stop teaching us now.

Ohio Dolphan

it may have been fireman ed's exhale or rex ryans shadow. video of the event is not conclusive.

if bell was our second best player then we were screwed anyways. bell is old and slow. decent player but nowhere near 2nd best anything

Just venting frustrations, Ohio, in the least harmful ways.

Too many crazies here today ... I'm out!

It's great to watch the ebb and flow of this blog and comments. Something "big" happens and geniuses come out of the woodwork. Then after a few days they fade out like their attention spans and you are left with the usuals and a few passer bys that drop in to make us all just a little bit dumber. Good job Dolfans, keep up the good work.

I read jock itch, jock strap and jocks r us football magazines. So I now come here to impress you with my profound intelligence.

Ok, we are impressed. You can stop teaching us now.

The real professor isn't in yet. You want a lecture? Wait till Craig "I know it all" M shows up! Get your pencils & paper ready!

No frijoles on my burrito. The good girls understand hygiene, having a good jet stream bidet in your pad helps too...

Ok

Ok

I took my meds

lets talk seriously and forget that Ireland is a racist, talks down to black players, thinks he is smarter than all black people and fires only black players even though they were the best players on the team

let's just forget about it and talk about something else

Crusher,

I'd go with Rex Ryan's Shadow :)

Right after he was walking away from another failed SuperBowl prediction :) :)

I am tired of this team's goals that are at best, to be mediocre. I don't care what Ross/Ireland say otherwise. They are stingy, directionless, and hardheaded. Why do I want to reward a team for its repeated mediocrity? Do they think miserable Sunday after miserable Sunday is what we look forward to after a hard week's hard work? That "Bold splash" now has to take on a new meaning, much more drastic, much more emergent. SELL THE TEAM, NOW.

Forget the campaigning in front of headquarters. Just don't go to games anymore. The only way to reward this kind of behaviour by Ross and Ireland is to not reward them at all and kick them where it really hurts; IN THE WALLET!!!!!

Tony Dungy would have been a better HC and maybe GM too

He is forgiving & understands people and is definitely not a racist

AT ANY TIME, this Blog can go into the deep end. Yahear, Home!

Should've fired Ireland before Sparano.

Bidets are great. They clean your asss and massage your balls.

HOME STFU

Back to Tim Tebow on the Jags and building a new hybrid team w the wet watermelon seed RB Maurice Jones Drew

Let's hope the rich Afghanistan Oil man that George Bush and the CIA helped to become a Billionaire and respected American businessman & NFL owner can rebuild the Jacksonville Jaguars

The meds should kick in in about 5 min and Home will be ok :)

Friends dont let friends buy Dolphin tickets.

Mando, I think the protest was pretty darn effective. It made national and local news. Everyone is talking about it. It was planned to hit during the frenzy of not getting the qb so good play on NFL network and ESPN. We are tweeting about getting another one on the weekend when everyone can attend with free BBQ. If we waited there would have been a lull. More is coming. We already aren't buying tickets especially this year. Since 2006 we cut back 50% in ticket sales to 30K. Less really because the 30K still have time to renew and I bet only 20K do. We haven't been buying jerseys and you will see al the discounts. But heck, exactly whose jersey would we buy anyway>

I don't think there's any need to press People at this moment not to buy Season tickets. I doubt many are doing it.

GREAT today's blog just became a cesspool.Later true fellow Dolphans.

Cespool team = Cespool blog. Its not rocket science.

BRING IN TEBOW....DONT BE STUPID!!!!
according TO THE SPORTS WRITERS IN THE KNOW IN BOSTON...BELICHICK IS SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING GETTING HIM.

Belichick will create a 15 or 20 play package that will give Miami fits. Imagine a TEBOW, PACKAGE INSIDE THE 20 WITH HERNANDZ, GRONKOSKI ESSENTIALLY A DOUBLE TIGHT END PACKAGE. OUR WORST NIGHTMARE!!
And for those who say TEBOW cant throw, just ask Pittsburgh's secondary if they think he can throw!! Granted...he may never be a big time throwing threat, but he is a red zone nightmare...not knowing if he will cram it down your throat, of flip it out to one of 5 or 6 receivers.

So wadda ya think Miami Dolphins 4-12 or 5-11 ?

attendance at the stadium w o Tebow and this brilliant (lol) "west coast offense" about 30,000 empty seats and blacked out every week unless opposing teams fans buy the tickets ?

Great Job Ireland

I'm sorry but is Ireland (& the Dolphins personnel department for that matter) done with FA now??? Amazing. He makes ONE good signing for Richard Marshall that will improve ONE position (CB or FS) & that's it??? He keeps saying he has "a plan" but will any of us still be alive to see it. Artis Hicks??? Jamaal Westerman??? And now David Garrard??? Please....We just finished 6-10 & had our 3rd straight losing season. I guess Ireland's "plan" is that he wants to put his entire focus on the draft where he can his own players pick the players & not overpay for them. What a joke!!!

BTW--I love that Nick Buonicotti has come out & ripped this team to shreds & he's right--this team has sucked with Ireland as the GM & Ross is in WAY over his head just like the pock faced alien named Huzienga was. This is just proof that just b/c you are successful in one area of business doesn't mean that you are going to be successful as an NFL owner. See Dan Snyder.

H.L.

Good point

but there is no hope anymore for the Miami Mullets

Tebow would do great w the Patriots

Yes with TEBOW and those 2 TEs = unstoppable

GOOD POST!

These protesters are so dumb. If they are so smart, why dont they have jobs instead of roaming the streets. Management is gutting the team and that doesnt happen overnight. BM, great great receiver but headache..... and possibly soon suspended.

BE A GOOD CONSUMER AND STOP BUYING THIS CRAP PRODUCT!

Ireland is definitely playing Moneyball. He watches too many movies. That's his great plan. Problem is he is getting players that can get on base but forgot there are no bases. He spent all his money on Smiley, Grove, etc that aren't good players now is paying the price. Next year Wake and Long are gone as their contracts are up and we can't afford them. His cap management skills suck and now we are only a team of nobodies for cheap

"I don't think there's any need to press People at this moment not to buy Season tickets. I doubt many are doing it."

Oscar,

Great point. Living in NYC I've already seen this with the Mets. There's nothing worse for fans than an incompetent owner & after awhile the people will just refuse to waste their money on an inferior product. I can't say I blame the fans of Miami & South Florida for the backlash.

Wonder if they will also install West Coast toilet seats in the stadium

Home means

the "West Coast Thing" is all the rage!

just ask the SHEEPLE, they are all sold on those three words west coast offense

wonder if they have west coast toilet paper?

LMAO!

tee-hee

So wadda ya think Miami Dolphins 4-12 or 5-11 ?

attendance at the stadium w o Tebow and this brilliant (lol) "west coast offense" about 30,000 empty seats and blacked out every week unless opposing teams fans buy the tickets ?

Great Job Ireland

Feel bad for some of the players on this team such as Jake Long, Cam Wake, Reggie Bush and others. Sure they get paid well but they give maximum effort even when injured. I feel particularly bad for Yeremiah Bell, a heckuva guy and a heckuva player who is the latest Jeff Ireland casualty. They keep opening holes on this team instead of solidifying it bringing in new players. These 2 buffoons cannot be trusted any further than they can be thrown. Problem is, Ross can't fire himself. That's why I say don't go to games, and agree with other posts to not buy jerseys or anything else with a Dolphin logo on it. Ross WILL feel it when his billion$$$ investment loses more and more money. Its the only way to do it. Feels really cruddy to be this inept in March. Imagine what it'll be like in September!!

Ohio

you are probably correct. Fireman ed's exhale/breath would have probably ended his career.

and Mr. GOT IT

a GREAT wc offense requires 2 alpha dogs ala jerry rice and john taylor.an excellent one can get by with a bunch of hard working lunchpail types ala the 1990 thru 2011 packers.

Couldn't agree more. I get ticked at people who blindly support the franchise in spite of the incompetence it shows year after year, and the complete disregard it has for it's fanbase and their intelligence. I see people writing on here about those who criticize the team not being true fans. Ross loves mindless sheep like you who will continue to fork over their hard earned dollars regardless of how pathetic and embarrassing a product he continues to put out there on the field. Ross will tell you the horsesh*t he's feeding you is top of the line filet mignon, and you'll gladly pay top dollar for it with a smile on your face like the fools you are....
These owners need to understand that our loyalty to this team goes back for years, however it's not without expectations. I don't even live in Florida, but in Philadelphia. I could certainly support the Ravens, Eagles, Jets or Giants, all of whom are within close driving distance to my home.
However I've been with the Dolphins since 1981, and have proudly worn my colors for our history and tradition. I stuck with this team through the dark years of Weinsteidt and ever since the day Danny retired. Since then it seems to get harder and harder to support this team.
It would be one thing if I could honestly buy into the mindset that we have experts that are in place and running the show, that they are doing their best to improve our team and make us a force again in the AFC East. However I'm not drinking the Kool Aid on that one, I don't believe for even a minute that the people in charge of this organization have one iota as to what they're doing, and there's no blue print nor plan as to how we can get this ship back on track...and the thing is, is that they really don't care.
So long as "true blue" fans continue to fork over dollars for merchandise and tickets and concessions, there is absolutely NO NEED whatsoever for the administration to give a rat's a** what me or anyone else on here says about them or the team....they are continuing to get fat off the blind stupidity of the mindless hordes.
Just as this article states, keep your money in your wallet and don't hand your money over to them. I used to buy Dolphins stuff all the time, for me and my kids, but not anymore. They aren't getting a penny out of me, and I'm actually strongly considering leaving the Dolphins Nation altogether for a franchise that actually respects it's fans, with owners who actually know how to go about building a winner.....
Just for the record, we got no qb, but we got more celebrities in the owner's box than you can count on 1 hand right? Ross is the problem, Ireland is the problem. Until those are addressed, we are aboard the NFL's Titanic and these 2 aren't even trying to avoid the icebergs folks, they are heading right for them deliberately!!

finfan23 you are lame.

I can't even watch the videos anymore. They accomplished nothing but embarrassing themselves, the fans, and the team some more. And what did Armando say "You are usually well-informed. Many of you are bright." Which one of you doesn't believe Armando was quietly snickering as he wrote this line?

dont feel bad for reggie, he will just walk after the season.

This is very similar to the occupy protesting idiots. Complaining that coporations make too much money.

Sleeping in public parks and making a mess of a city is not the way to stop them from making money. STOP BUYING THEIR PRODUCTS!

Phins fans, learn the lesson the Occupy idiots didn't. If you wanna protest what the fins are doing dont go to games & don't buy merchandise.

Sooner or later, Ross will feel the pain or accept the truth.

BE A GOOD CONSUMER AND STOP BUYING THIS CRAP PRODUCT!

Finfan23,

If we have another losing season--which would be four in a row--no matter how much Ross may like this socially incompetent numb nuts, the pressure will be too strong from the outside & he'll have to fire him.

I don't hope we suck again BUT if we do & it certainly appears that we might Ross has to pull the plug.

correction finfan23

the BIG EGO spent the $$$ on grove and long. you dont think that BLOATED HEAD would consider letting some one else buy the groceries...do you? jeffys 1st day as a real gm was the big buffoonas last

im sorry grove and smiley...long was money well spent

DONT SUPPORT THE DOLPHINS BECAUSE THEY WERE GOOD 40 YEARS AGO. MAKE ROSS DELIVER A DECENT ON THE FIELD PRODUCT AND EARN OUR SUPPORT. THE ALTERNATIVE IS WE'LL STINK FOREVER!

Feel bad for some of the players on this team such as Jake Long, Cam Wake, Reggie Bush and others. Sure they get paid well but they give maximum effort even when injured. Throw Dansby & Starks in there as well as players who give maximum effort. They're wasting the best years of their careers.

I think Ireland believes we are set at many positions. At TE, Fasano, Mastrud and Clay. At DE/LB, Odrick, Wake, Westerman. At QB, Moore, Garrard, Devlin/Rookie. At RB's, Reggie, Thomas and Messum. At CB, Vontae, Smith, Marshall. Still, we are short on receivers, safeties and G/OT.

"Sooner or later, Ross will feel the pain or accept the truth."

He's already feeling the pain. His credibility is being questioned & he didn't buy the team to lose money which is happening. It's always a bad thing when an owner has to go into his own pocket & buy tickets to avoid a blackout. The Dolphins now have the 2nd largest percentage of unsold tickets in the NFL behind the Bungles.

I can't even watch the videos anymore. They accomplished nothing but embarrassing themselves, the fans, and the team some more. And what did Armando say "You are usually well-informed. Many of you are bright." Which one of you doesn't believe Armando was quietly snickering as he wrote this line?

Honest to god, you're a windbag. I'm sure you've heard that before but, it merits repeating. So go ahead, report me to Armando you crybaby! You're good at that, admmittedly so!

You're almost as pathetic as home! The fans embarassed the team more? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Trust me windbag, the team doesn't need those 20-30 people to further the running South Florida joke that is the Miami Dolphins! Your comments on this blog is more embarassment than those 20-30 could ever muster in their lifetimes.

You accomplish more than that with 1 singular post!

i think ireland quits before september if we keep pressure on

if we had had a QB that could finish off drives and get us TD instead of FG then we wouldn't be where we're at right now. some people would still have their jobs.

I didn't really like any of the QB options during FA so no big deal to me. Just don't know why we traded our only offensive threat. cap space i suppose.

Sorry Mando, I don't agree. Those fans of which I was not one, feel passionately enough to take time out of their lives to tell the owner of a company that they do business with, that they(the fans) don't agree with Mr. Ross's strategy.Along with the demonstration, I concur to not buying tickets or overprice food and beer and certainly to boo him when we see him. However don't think for a minute that the national press doesn't know what is going on with the Miami Dolphins. Players from other teams are texting pernicious euphemisms about the Phins. ESPN is talking about the Phins and Ross and of course Ireland in a tongue in cheek manner. They know, Mando they know and the rest of the football fans around the country know as well.
Part of the problem is that they boast about what they plan to do and then fall woefully short of the objective they set for themselves, with no explanation to heir fans. What the Phins need to do is have a meeting with the press to clear up many of the questions we have as fans as well as reporters. Speaking from a fans point of view, WE ARE FRUSTRATED AS HEL- AND WE DON'T LIKE IT!
