Cox, Gilmore possibilities if Tannehill is not the pick

Jeff Ireland says he already knows which player he would pick Thursday evening with the Dolphins top draft pick. He is not, however, telling us the name of that player.

Most experts believe Ryan Tannehill is that player. I agree that is likely the choice.

But my column today gives you the name of one player the Dolphins are considering and could be the pick if Tannehill isn't the guy. That guy is Mississippi State defensive lineman Fletcher Cox.

Cox is a monster. He is a defensive tackle. He is a five-technique defensive end with pass-rush ability. And in nickel and dime situations he can be both an end or the interior rusher. I remind you pass-pressure is something the Dolphins must address.

The column tells you why Cox is a better pick than Quinton Coples. And as for those of you suggesting Dontari Poe, forget about it. Poe is a great workout guy, but didn't play near the competition and didn't produce all that much, either.

I also give you the name of a second-round possibility for Miami in the column. Think right tackle.

One name I wanted to add but didn't have the room as a first-round pick possibility is Stephon Gilmore, the cornerback from South Carolina. Gilmore has steadily risen up draft boards and is now considered a legitimate top 10 pick.

I hope we find a trade partner to go down and get another 2nd rounder.
We still have many holes and needs to complete the younger move if we want to develop a contender team, this is what NE mastered last decade.
We need pass rush, RT or RG, Wr, and even depth on Lb and cb.
Too many holes without counting the big one QB.
So, fill the holes effectively and then go after a Qb next yr (this yr you may use a third on Weeden or Cousins if we trade down.

..Rob, FP4...I'm planning on going. I have a friend with season TIX..Lives in Cupertino. If all goes to plan. Will be checking into the Fairmont on December 17th..Leave Monday. Would love to tear up SF!!!

Odin, You yourself said your getting the goverment checks and your enjoying it., Fess up degenerate,TJs just stating what you've blogged, Not only here but on Ohio's blog.

Free speech attracts many who run off at the mouth. Stick to the topic instead of ranting. The Phins know all that can be known about Tanny at this time. They have decided whether to take him or not take him in the first round. Rare is the QB who has a great rookie year. Just like Baseball pitchers, they need grooming.

I'll expect him to be in full meltdown mode by later tonight, when he's f*cked up as usual on the booze and pills he buys at taxpayer expense with his 'disability' checks (I didn't know the government considered 'Obsessive Closet Queen Troll' a valid disability).

Anyway, gotta run for now. I look forward to seeing his gay-fixated responses and rapid descent into incoherent madness later.

Rob

I made a comment earlier. I don't think Ireland will pick to save his job, I think he will make the pick he genuinely thinks is best. Ireland does not have to be so worried, he has a great resume, he is young with a future in the NFL no matter what happens. He wouldn't stay unemployed long.

TJ, Pop back in at 11 pm, He'll be in rare form I'am sure.or go to OHIO'S blog, He'll be there too.

ion,
It is true you can't entirely believe what they say.

If I remember right as they told it. First choice was Manning, then Flynn, then Tannehill. They obviously didn't have any real conviction for Flynn. They then added Alex Smith to the mix and then signed Garrard out of the blue.

The signing of Garrard btw takes the pressure off of drafting a QB at all IMO. Unless of course the intention is to cut or leave Devlin on the practice squad.

One last thing: Don't you love how the troll writes as if others here are agreeing with him or on his side?

Poor widdle thing has to make up an imaginary gang of admirers along with the fabricated "life" he's long (and stupefyingly boringly) prattled on about here.

Now, do as I tell you to do DOG and respond with your dreary, homophobic predictability. The rest of that dusty, abused brain pan of yours seems to have run dry of any semblance of actual wit a LONG time ago.

See you later. I'm off for a date with a "brunette, police chief's daughter who is also a librarian and is really into fat, boring middle-aged guys"

Post of the Day.

TJ, All I have to say is....................

VAHALLA.....

LMAOROTF

We can all top about who we should pick until the cows come home. But in the end it will only come down to what is the right pick. They all look like the right pick before made. However, only time will truly clarify that.

IMO, as you all know, the right pick is David DeCastro. Its gives us 3 pro bowl calibre players spread out throughout the entire oline. LT, C, and OG. That's the kind of pro bowl calibre balance I would like to see spreaded out throughout the entire oline. Folks, that great potential to have a great oline.

This type of oline will only make any skill position pieces added this year or in the future even further devastating than they would been standing alone.

Take DeCastro 1st rd and Cousins 2nd rd. That is the right thing to do.

So, Armando, they told you they are not picking Reiff with the #8 pic,. hee, hee. Everybody knows by now who they're going to pick at #8 including you and I. Good that I don't make my living as a Reporter,. hee, hee.

He's over at Ohio's Blog!

Let git em Ya'll!

YeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw!

ROTFLMAO-Bunch of Inbred Degenerates ;)

FP4FGs right on. If we end up heading to the game I'll look you up.

That is gonna be a really tough game so being able to help rally the troops with a fellow Fin fan would be better.

Cheers!

LOL, minus the earthquakes. We all have until Dec of this year according to the Mayans.

Stephen Gilmore is a great player but he undersized for a top ten consideration in my opinion I had him as a top twenty guy a long time ago but Gilmore at 8 is overspending more so than Tannehill. point being Tannehill is a QB. Luke Kuechly or Melvin Ingram would be better choices at 8. Cox is intriguing but there is so much depth at DT and DE that it makes no sense to pick one that high. I personally like Derek Wolfe and Brett Roy, I think both could go as high as the 2nd rd and there has been talks about Wolfe in the 2nd. But again with so many prospects at that position it'd prolly be possible to land them in the 3rd and 4th rd

ion @ 5:18,

You do have it right that typically a ton of guys get recycled.

Spielman found work.

Sparano found work.

Ireland would land somewhere but maybe not as a GM. Who knows? I hope he is just stubborn enough to pick 7 Pro Bowl players in this draft...(snicker)

At least I hope he gets a bunch right.

Cheers,

Zeitler is a better G than DeCastro. Don't believe the Stanford hype

DD... back at cha man.

As that time frame gets closer I will let you and FP4FGs
know if its a go for me.

Cheers!

YG,

I wouldn't be upset with Decastro. Obviously i would prefer Philbin to coach up the group we have. I'm still holding out hope for John Jerry.

Decastro is one the few we have shot at in the draft that is for real a beast though. I'll give you that and he fits into the athletic mold you would want for the WCO.

hee,hee.

YG,

DeCastro is very Steve Hutchinson-esque. I wouldn't mind him as a Fin at all but I would have to slide back at least some.

Even if they got less than normal value in a trade back a few spots to nab a DeCastro at least the value would be more solid for a guard.

Cheers,

Rob, We have 5 days to the End of times(According to the Mayans).,though sometimes with the wife Dec 22 cant come soon enough..LOL

I'm not falling for it!

Armando is getting "Tool-ed" by the FO. They were so mad at him they wouldn't even give him table scraps all season, nor off season.

YET, now only days before the draft, he's getting some insider info on the team wanting Cox, Gilmore or Tannehill?

Coples, Kuechley, Floyd and DeCastro will all be available, but suddenly the FO sends this message?

They figure if they can't nothing else out of Manbdo, they can at least use him as a "Smoke Screen".

Armando, no longer will I refer to you as "Scoop". From now on your nick name will be Smoke Screen Salguero!

Fakepost @ 5:48, Though I gotta admit, That is true and funny.

Beautiful work by all the GM's this yesr. As it should be.

Odins"Bloated"Liver,

True enough depending on ones wife....Maybe Brady ain't saying that? But, maybe he is? Maybe football is his sanctuary. LOL

Possibly Y2K all over again?

Wait Dec 22...are the Fins behind this as they play the Patsies in Dec again? ;P

Cheers,

Odinseye,

With Tannehill all we truly get is a 2nd rd qb had Barkley and Landry declared. Geesh, some wnat Tannehill just for the sake of saying we finally drafted a qb 1st rd. Cousins is far more starter ready and can be gotten 2nd rd. Why cant Tannehill people do the math?

As far as pass rusher, wasnt the primary idea to find a "compliment" to Wake? Hmm... drafting a compliment to Wake, sounds more like drafting Wake's total replacement, taking him at #8. Again people need to do the math.

Bruce Irvins, sounds more like what we need and can be had 3rd rd. Taking a pass rusher #8 sounds more like overdrafting a need we have.

Wr 1st rd, really? A spotty oline and not knowing who'll even be throwing the ball to him in the future. A spotty oline and even if getting a qb, that qb not having enough time to get him the ball. Really?

That's why imo DeCastro and Cousins seem so much more the right thing to do. Cousin's a far more complete qb than Tannehill, with a greater body of work. DeCastro is the "COMPLTE RG". When will be in such a fortunate position to land one of them again. He's EVERRYTHING you look for in a guard, also, coming from Stanford you know he's ultra smart too.

I STILL don't know how we drop a 17 - 0 halftime lead at their house last year...DAMN!!!

Well I do, but then I don't. It all started with a fumbliya!...

Cheers,

Rob, chillax, It wasdistained to end in defeat, Tony Sporono Coached teams lose those games.

It is crystal clear that all the trouble in this Blog has been created by YG/DB. So now you know, Armando.

Rob OC,

DeCastro is projected 11th-15th. I've posted before we can slide back a little, pick up at least an extra 3rd, though we may be able to get the extra 2nd rd pick. Then have an extra top 3 rd pick plus DeCastro.

Still, if forced to keep the #8 to ensure getting DeCastro, I would be happy with that. Because it balance out our oliene with pro bowl calibre linemen(LT, C, and RG) across the entire face.

FP4FGs,

It just that whole snatching defeat from the jaws of victory thing... sux.

If Sparano coached even one down to lose he deserves the fate he ended up with.

Cheers,

With the 8th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft the Miami Dolphins select Gilmore Cox.

Kiper: Nobody saw that coming but, when you think about it, it's a good pick for Miami. This guy's got great skill. He can play cornerback or he can play on the defensive line. Nice job by Jeff Ireland recognizing the value in that pick.

Berman: Who the heck is Gimore Cox?

McShay: (crying in a corner somewhere): I want my mommy.

Meanwhile, over at the NFL Network:

Lombardi: I just don't know anymore. I quit.

Casserly: It's all about value. Didn't I tell you it's all about value?

Mayock: I had this one pegged right from the start. It's a great pick for Miami. The kids got great hips and he's quicker than fast.

Rob, I believe the fins are better off with out Tony, It's Ireland I am concerned with.

Slide back? We pick in the Top Ten.

PROFESSER LOU,., NO THAT WOULD BE AFTER THE PAN TIME WHEN THEY SAID THAT ON TV! LOL!

If we draft a defensive player in the first round it's the only way I could hate Jeff Ireland more.

tj, couldn't agree with you more. First he's the biggest moron I've encounter on any blog. The problem is he's so stupid that debating him bores me.

And I love how anyone is thinking decastro or o-line in the first,ur the reason we suck and ireland hasn't been fired, because ur happy with odrick, pouncey, Davis.....
Yes, pouncey is good, that's not the points.
WE NEED POINTS
WE NEED PLAYMAKERS
Why is that so Hard to grasp? We don't have one player on the roster that gets in the end zone. It's why we love carpenter. We effin have to!

Aloco, How's"GODZILLA"?, BTW when I was on vacation in Costa Rica I had a great dinner that consistted of Igauna, I believe it was grilled with a Chimmichurre sauce on it., It was Great.Better then Chicken.

odinseye, there are no changing of names going on. You're the only one that does that. I enjoy toying with you, because you're no challenge.

Inimounts,
I disagree. We have guys who get into the endzone. They're called defensive backs...and they get in there when they're chasing the other team's wide receiver.

YG,

Your logic is sound and not sexy...I like it..."BUT", like my desire to add S Mark Barron at #8 (if need be) those positions just get zero love that early in most drafts, especially G.

I posted Eric Berry as an exception and that worked out swimmingly for the Chiefs.

At the end of the day, for my draft buck, I am like you...get the guy with the highest chance to be a Pro Bowl caliber "X" and get as many as you can at each position.

Being backed in a QB or die mentality will be the organizations further undoing. I know guys like Craig M and others that are proponents of that thinking say "Well you MUST take a shot" when you have a low pick. I get that until I believe that player no longer fits that round due to their college exploits.

Mark Sanchez is a Jet drafted with much the same strategy. He is basically like Henne incarnate as he has held the Jets at bay with glimpses of some good QB play followed by horrible stretches. The thing is Sanchez had a stronger DEF to rely on and is a traded up for sacred cow of sorts...so they sign him for longer while bringing in Tebow to take 20 snaps a game?

More power to those Green knuckleheads!

Bottomline is I feel DeCastro and Barron are two guys that if either ended up as Fins people would then learn to love the selections and not sweat the position in the round as much.

Cheers,

YES I HAVE GODZILLA STILL BUT HE IS BROWN NOT GREEN LIKE BEFORE AND HIS TONGE STICKS OUT ALL THE TIME NOW.,.THE MAN AT WORK SAID TO GIVE HIM FRUIT SO I HAVE GIVE HIM APPLE ORANGE WATER MELONS LIMES GRAPES AND APPLES AND ALSO HE EATS LETUCE SOME TIMES AND I GAVE HIM HOT DOGS ALSO.,.BUT HE DOESNT MOVE MUCH JUST STAY IN HIS CAGE AND THEN GOES TO SLEEP.,..I DO NOT LIKE TO THINK ABOUT EATING THEM

UNFORTANTLY IT IS VERY TRUE SOME OF WHAT IS WRITTEN OF ODINSEYE HERE,..HE HAS ADMIT TO ALL THE DRINKING AND DRUG HE TAKES EVERY DAY SO HE CANT BLAME ANY ONE SAYING THAT.

YG, are you from Miami? If not steer clear from here, otherwise you're going to get bombed.

We believe in nothing except our Ferocity.

Aloco, If he passes, Try a lemon and garlic glaze on him, I think t's what they did in Costa Rica with the meal I had,any whooo, BON APPITTE. Enjoy.

lol@FP4FGs

inamounts,

I hear your argument but the Fins started to at least score some TDs in the second half of last year when Moore and the OFF got going.

I feel your pain as that is why my fav pick would be WR Michael Floyd. I am huge on picking best player available so I would not limit the choice to one side of the ball or the other.

If the next Patrick Peterson or JPP or you pick the young DEF stud were drafted by the Fins in the 1st round you are saying you would hate that choice?

The word is that the new WCO is gonna try and scheme guys like Bess, Fasano, and Hartline open more.

I still think they need a big, strong, fast wideout with hops that shields DBs from the ball and make all sorts of tough grabs when it's needed. I say WR Floyd is that guy.

Cheers,

Be back later...Cheers y'all.

I'm going to be touching myself later. Focus will be on nipples and upper torso tonight, rather than the "usual suspects."

Bro, you don't know what you're talking about. You are much younger than I am. The first thing I've been taught to do in these circumstances is to take your eyes out(assuming no weapons). The second, I will bite your Carotid artery, for we are very thirsty.(I have great Fangs).

Rob,

I think somehow people miss the fact that Floyd is Notre Dame's alltime leading reciever.

I mean were talking about a major school thats been around a long long time.

I know they've never been a huge passing team but Floyd had 4 very productive years mostly with subpar QB's throwing the ball.

So he like the sauce a little. The production speaks for itself. I would take him in a heartbeat.

C'mon Oscar, no biting lol.

YG

Only two weeks ago you laughed and ridiculed those suggesting taking OG/OT ate 8, giggling on how it won't work out with the salary cap a few years down the line and some other mumbo jumbo.

Now, of course, you are high on OG/OT.

You are a mockery of your own self!

It is very difficult when we are in such a state, Pastor. We might rip out the pleasure button, you know?

I've been taught to bite. And rip.
