Dolphins pick RT Jonathan Martin in second round

The Dolphins clearly were going to add an offensive tackle if you read the between the lines every time coach Joe Philbin pressed the importance of adding help up front.

Today, the Dolphins made Stanford left tackle Jonathan Martin their second round pick. Martin will change positions to play in Miami.

"I haven't played right tackle but I feel I can play right tackle," Martin said.

"It's a dream come true. It's an amazing city, amazing fan base, amazing history. I can't wait to get down there and work."

Martin said he talked to the Dolphins at the Indianapolis combine but didn't have much contact with the team beyond that.

The Cardinal used zone and power blocking techniques up front so Martin can do both. "I feel comfortable with it," he said.

Martin initially was thinking of playing for Harvard when he was told by that school's admission office that his he would have been the university's first fourth-generation African American student. Martin's parents went to Harvard. His grandparents did. One of his great grand parents did.

General manager Jeff Ireland dismissed the idea that Martin is not extremely strong. Martin had only 20 reps on the bench press during the combine. Ireland said part of the reason is because he has exceedingly long arms for his position.

That's to bad, hoping Curry would slip by

I really hope they don't take a corner. Smith and Davis aren't world beaters but they're fine and we have way bigger needs. At least I thought. I would like to see OLB DE, wr (not necessarily in that order) and then RG.

Packers better not go after Randle!

Trumaine Johnson scares me!

Million dollar skills.....five cent head!

I think they're going to try Odrick at end so I wouldn't be surprised to see Ta'amu or even Chapman at DT.

..I think the blog would lose it if everyone has to hear me talk about Trumaine Johnson..

A pressure player does not necessarily have to be a DE. Could be a LB, or a hybrid.

SF just used a second on a PR/KR

Finsfan CT,

Lol you can get the crdit if we get him. Im good with that lol. I like him too. Nice player. Tough kid from NJ!

I just hope they don't take Billy Winn and think they won the frickin' lottery.

I am a Ducks fan but James is not going to excel outside the "Turbo Spread" Oregon offense.

I knew as soon as there was football to talk about the trolls would disappear. They have nothing to add unless they're talking about how much they hate someone's writing style. One dimensional dolts.

Some kind of picks by the Packers and NE.

What? Bye-bye Teddy Ginn??

I say the giants take randle

In west coast offense, you need a reliable 'slippery' WR. Sanu fits that more than Randle.

Finsfan,
Remember Harbaugh got to see his defense destroyed by James while at Stanford. He probably figured better to have him on your team than playing against you...

Hayward's a good corner.

Professor Lou, I was thinking the same thing...I saw Ta'amu in the senior bowl and he dominated...Nobody could push him backwards, not even an inch. Him and Soliai in the middle would be fun to watch. Try running up the middle against those 2...Ouch!

Montreal,

Yeah I love SEC football and my dad being an Arkansas alum we watch a lot together on Saturdays so Im partial to him. But you are exactly right he is a threat and electric on special teams. He's more a slot as Sanu could develop into a legit starting WR but Adams is special and unique and when has Miami ever had a good kick returner? Freaking Brock Marion averaged like 30 1 year lol

And by us, too.

I guess Ireland was ordering a pizza because we haven't traded up. lol

Daryl, what's your opinion on Johnson?

Well, better.

Cam Johnson at 72 maybe? Or how about a daily double on WR and get Sanu and Toon or if Randle slips take Randle and Toon. 8 picks away!

Giants grabbed WR R Randle.

Hoping my fellow Demon Deacon WR Givens falls to Miami!

Pizza best pick he made so far

Steelers just drafted Mike Adams. They got DeCastro and Adams. They should have a very good o-line for many years...

#1,
He's pretty quick for his size too. I've seen him just blow into a backfield and stop a run cold.

Bingo there you go giants

ok forget about Randle.

..Montreal.. I will wait and see if we draft him first. I get called out for hyping the small school guys..I have Griz season tickets, so I have seen about every game the kid has played in..If we draft him I'll answer anything you guys want to know..

Don't you hate how the best teams just wait and wait and still end up with solid players that fill their needs.

Many of you think too little of our current WR's. They had a bone head coach, revolving QB's and OC's. I think the crew we have is better than most of you realize. None of these WR's from this point on will beat out what we have now. I saw several mocks here picking 2 wr's. I doubt it. Look for defense from here on out.

Randle takes over for Manningham. Great pick by the Giants.

Craig, before they can resign Wake, Longs contract needs to be redone from what I hear. They wont pay for Long he's got too expensive and they were planning on franchising Wake, so even more the reason they trade him for nothing less than a 1st round pick. I dont see us winning anything this year, Jerry/Murtha and Martin can fill in as the tackles this year and we could be armed with 2 1st rounders a 2nd and 2 3rd rounders for next years draft when Tannehill is probably ready to start. Just a thought but I like it way more than letting yet another high profile player leave in FA for nothing.

Daryl, you live in Montana?

Green Bay doing great work, as usual.

Giants get a very solid WR to replace Manningham.

there's a reason these teams win year after year.

I say we get Ty Hilton, good player. Needs bulk. Can be pr/kr too.

I really wanted Allen from Clemson.

Dammit.

Colts have TWO great TEs now

Darryl* Sorry. Typo.

You remember Forrest Gregg and Jerry Kramer pulling for Paul Hornung in the Famous GB sweep? Well, those sre babies compared to Maurice Pouncey and David DeCastro now. Broder!

Dang there goes TE Allen

Trumaine Johnson to the Rams...Oh well...

so long Dwayne Allen

Dolphins will get Ladarius green for TE

There goes Johnson

Ion,
The best receiver the team has is Hartline. Now, if they use him the way he was used at Ohio State he would be awesome catching slant passes. I could see him getting a lot of yac.
Bess is a slot so his production isn't going to get much better than it was in the past in terms of yardage.
So, we're hanging our hats on Gates, Wallace and Moore. I like the guys but we haven't seen anything from them to be too overly optimistic.

I saw a post earlier about Martins disappointing combine.

From WalterFootball: Martin was sick at the Combine, so he didn't work out. Martin had a solid performance at his pro day.

..Montreal..Yup..Anyway there goes TJ. Maybe McSurdy in the seventh...lol

DE pick 72 or 73 might could be Cam Johnson.

Johnson goes to the Rams. Too bad.

Hartline catches balls on the sideline and falls out of bounds, Bess runs the slants. Where is the guy who gets the ball and makes a play? We don't have one, we needed a guy who can be targeted 5-6 times a game and get some good YAC, now we have to small guys Bess, Gates and Hartline who I've never seen even take a hit, how nice

The one nobody gets, Armando, was Victor Cruz for the Giants.

Massie still on board

If Cam Johnson slips all the way to the 4th round, Miami should jump all over him. Solid player.

John Elway makes Jeff Ireland look like Ozzie Newsome

Man, picks are flying off the board! Never seen anything like this

Mohamed Sanu and Brandon Boykin

JOhn Elway makes Jeff Ireland look like well Jeff Ireland LOL
