How far is Cam Wake willing to go to make point?

Today marked the first day of the Dolphins 2012 offseason conditioning program. Cameron Wake did not attend in protest of the fact he has one year remaining on his contract and wants an extension and doesn't have anything close to that right now.

Wake obviously deserves a new contract in due time.

The Dolphins want to give him that new contract in due time.

The question is what is the appropriate due time.

Wake obviously believes that time is now and he took this mild step to make his point. But here is the question:

How far is he willing to go to make the point more strongly? If he doesn't have an extension will he sit out OTAs? Will he sit out the mandatory minicamp? Will he sit out training camp?

As he increases the pressure he puts on the team by missing increasingly important dates he also loses traction in that he is obligated to be present, can be fined and, ultimately, is still under contract for 2012.

So this bears watching going forward.

Come on over stupid, plenty of room to change your name.

I'm the guy who has nothing to say about the Dolphins, I only come in here to ridicule others so I have nothing to say until someone talks about the team. Please talk about the team so I can make fun of you. Take your time, I'm still thinking of my new name, who shall I impostor in this post, hmmmmm.

Where is everyone. How am i supposed ro make fun of people if no one is here. Where am i going to come up with names if no one talks. this blog sux now

Im so happy and friendly ... i love u Armando

Ireland just pay the man already, he's our lone guy who can constentlenly put pressure onthe QB.

Armando Ohio is stealing your visitors! It's not my fault they all left, it's this Ohio guy. If you click on his name you go right to his blog! Everyone loved being stalked and ridiculed by me until this Ohio blog came around! I am so sad and lonely.

Patriots made mince meat of Wake, where was he when we had them backed up to the end zone, could have won that game, yet, Bradfool throws a quick out to Welker, for a touch down, could have used a good sack, and a safety at that point. Where was Wake.

Bob, Wake cant do eveything... Jeez

Cups are neat. I really dig cups.

Wake deserves to be paid right away, in real time. "Due time" is right now!

Pay the man. The Dolphins aren't exactly in a position of strength (like the Patriots) to be tough guys. The negative press from a Wake holdout after everything that has gone on this off-season would cripple this franchise. Wake is one of the few playmakers we have. Does Ross & Ireland really think that if he holds out that anyone would be dumb enough to buy tickets this season??? I guess they do.

I wonder how Aloco and Bob got the words Dentest and Win to appear underlined in blue?

It appears just like some of the words in Armando's original blog.

You better delete it or better yet(now that I pointed it out)just re-enter it without the blue highlight.

wake wants julius peppers type money.

Wake can't do everything, but, can he do anything? How many sacks this year, single digits I am sure. Too easy. Nothing special this year.

That's better(wink, wink).

Nice save..........and quick too.

Don't you just hate it when that happens lol?

ALoco, we need a key for your nicknames. I love them. But the best ever...Buffet of Knowledge!
And how do I get in on one of those brigades?

"How far is he willing to go to make the point more strongly? If he doesn't have an extension will he sit out OTAs? Will he sit out the mandatory minicamp? Will he sit out training camp?"

Mando,

Yes. And he should.

I can totally see the Dolphins trading him like we did with Ogunleye & screwing this up. Nothing like getting Marty Booker & a meaningless draft pick in return.

The people who post here routinely are so weird, so annoying, so pathetically stupid it boggles my mind. The posters must be unemployed democrats or mentally challenged grown men living at home with their fat mothers. The regulars here are an embarrassment to normal healthy Dolphin fans everywhere.

Lordy, like we need more nonsense before the season starts.
Well, wake can hold out until we draft some pass-rushing stud, or two. The all-of-a-sudden he find some extar change in his couch and not worry abotu his contract as much.
Competition can do strange things.

Ross is being cheap again. Its no wonder the team stinks.

So, tell me again how athletes are abused and mistreated?
Go play Wake. Play like a beast and you will be rewarded - never fails.

We have decided, as you already know, we don't need an alpha receiver like Brandon Marshall. All those guady stats with sub par QB's didn't translate into wins and we will not be fooled.

The same goes for Cam Wake. We don't need a "Best Player" on defense. He might have led our team in sacks when we finally got enopugh smarts to let him play, but again, that didn't translate into wins.

Tough Cookies Mr. Wake.

You will not hold us over the barrel just because you're the best player and aquisition(dumb luck)since I've been here.

We will NOT go through the same shenanegins as we did with Mr. Marshal either. I have decided to nip it in the bud Mr. Wake. Not only will you NOT get an extension, you will not get a trade either.

Being the responsible officer in charge here, I am announcing that I have removed yet ANOTHER cancer from our FINE football team.

Oh NO Mr. Wake, you will not Holdout. You will get an extension and you will no longer be a distraction to our Master Plan.

Mr. Wake, You're FIRED(lol, I've waited forever to say that). You have waived sir, thank you and Buh Bye!

Maybe if Fireland hadn't made such a mess of the Dolphins cap situation this wouldn't be an issue, they could just pay him fairly and move on.

But now with Fireland auditioning for NFL Pawn Stars he'll probably trade Wake for some day 3 draft picks.

Ask Ross what it's like to be Fireland's puppet.
What a joke.

trade wake.

I just love opposite season.

We needed a complimentary receiver to go along with Brandon. But, it's opposite season. I fooled EVERYONE and got rid of Brandon-LOL.

Ha Ha, I just slay me, I'm so funny.

Now we need a complimentary bookend pass rusher to go with Cam Wake! Surprise, surprise everyone. I'm getting rid of him too.

Besides, I hate those contract extension thingys. Mr. Solia sure didn't get one. Some people think he got over on me with that franchise tag doohickey. But I showed him, ha ha.

You have to get up pretty early in the morning to put one over on ole Jeffy Boy, I'll tell ya.

I'm SO good, I'm too good! I'm too good for my own good-Ha ha ha!

Mr. Wake: YOU Sir are FIRED! ROTFLMAO!

Mr. Ross, in your quest to revamp the dolphins through the draft into an organization that is relevent again, a team that is exciting and compells fans to buy tickets, it may be beneficial to think back to seasons in which you watched more intently, make note and then investigate attendance records to those corresponding years in relation to premium players. in going back i'll start with the post shula era, of course the dan marino era(star QB) gave fans confidence, excitement, and a LOT of wins(attendance *****), since those days it was more sporadic, the jimmy johnson days, the first parcell days, but as far as players making a direct impact on ticket sales, i'de have to think back a little bit, of course a time that sticks out in my head are the days of the acrobatic and physical recieving trio up chambers, gasden, and Mcmichael(attendance***)having those three guys on the field at the same time was very exciting to watch, the first couple of years of ronnie brown must have been pretty good, i remember waiting to see if he had that extra gear, he brought a lot of hope but never did have that extra gear(attendance**). the ronnie brown era probably had a small spike when camrillo found his stride, he brought security of moving the chains and hope, though he wasn't a big time reciever, he did motivate me as a fan(attendance**). the pennington season that saw us win the division also combines the parcell and ronnie brown era, nothing like winning(attendance***). anyway, fans will come out to see the first philbin days(curiosity), its up to you to keep their attention, fans that don't come out may become interested if you had a player that could consistantly make the highlight reel, or break some records. i still remember those gasden days, lots of yak and some one handers that were nothing short of remarkable, and even though ted ginn could never catch the ball, a couple of deep receptions were exciting if not down right shocking(vs. jets), when you watch the replays the expression on his face said it all, i think he was more shocked then the fans, if only he had bigger hands.

Its a bad move on Wake's part. A new scheme, new coaches, and he chooses to "hold out" on a contract he coveted just 3-yrs ago. Perhaps this happened: Wake and his agent ask for a new deal as they should considering he's grossly underpaid now but not 3-yrs ago. The FO says "yes", but, wait until after the Draft and we'll restructure yours and probably Jake Long's at the same time when all the dust settles. Or, the FO says, "no thanks". Either way; be a pro and honor your contract. Show up and play. Have a fantastic year and force the FO to pay and pay well at the end of your contract. Wake as a RFA or UFA will still make bank next year or force the FO to make a contract extension during the season because they'd be fools to let him get into FA.

Good Point Jeff Ireland!

Solia was in a contract year and Jeffy gambled and lost.

So now Jeffy is planning the same thing for Wake?

How Fvcking ignorant. Wake shouldn't have to be proving a point. He's already proved it. He's one of two premier players we have left on our team!

Ireland and Dawn Apponte should have already had this figured out. How much talent our we going to let get away?

This should have already been done. This is the best time for the Dolphins to extend the guy. Quit trying to blow smoke up our assses. If Wake gets pissed now, sure he'll still play another season. But then he's outsmarted the entire front office, just like freaking Solia did. Jeffy's options will then be to either overpay him with the franchise tag or trade him for a couple of 4th fvcking rounders.

I knew Ireland was stupid(from his handling of Dez, Solia, etc, etc)but I didn't know he was this God Damned STOOPID!

And we wonder why were cap strapped with a bunch of players that probably couldn't make most NFL rosters!

Firing Ireland would just be too good. This mutha fvcker needs Colombian Necktie! Oh God, If I had the CHANCE!

I WONDER IF WAKE THINKS HE'D BE GATTING PAID IF DOLPHINS DID'NT PLUCK HIM FROM OBSCURITY OF CANADA?

We cut Y. Bell because of his age, but we'll 'take care' of Wake 'later' in 'due time'!

odin, wake is not getting away. He's under contract. He probably wants julius pepper type money. In that case why should Ireland restructure? He can franchize him next year and will end up paying him pepper type money for 1 year. Wake will be 31 next year. Keep him for one more year at franchize then cut him.

Trade him for # 2 pick....seriously !

What mild step did he take?

AZ,

I get what you're saying, but that's just not how it's done these days.

You're best players should NEVER be allowed to play out their contracts. It puts the FO, the Cap Numbers and by proxy, the entire team at a disadvantage.

The perfect example or my point is what we went through with Solia over the past 2 seasons. The Big Gumpy Samoan laughed all the way to the bank.

I got over the Brandon Marshall move and our inactivity in Free Agency. But there is just NO WAY to justify letting one of the better pass rushers in the LEAGUE play out his contract!

I keep trying to give Ireland the benefit of the doubt. But come on, it just doesn't get any more ignorant than this!

Why give Wake the upper hand and cap strap us even worse? I guarantee you the steelers and packers don't let players like Solia string em out over the barrel and end up with Franchise Tag money.

Ireland needs to invest in some Kevlar. He's digging his own grave and apparently should have been fired along with Hennings! Yeah, I said Hennings! If not, he should have definitely been sent packing with SpaZano!

Do your fvcking JOB jeffy and get Wake a deal-NOW!

@ BoulderPhinfan

If he's not worth Peppers money then what kind of money is he worth? Isn't that the problem?

Is he worth Canada money? Plenty of teams would take Wake for Peppers money.

Wake's a good player, but he's no consistent game-changer. I think he SHOULD be paid, but I understand the team has bigger priorities first. It's a new staff, putting together new systems, they have to get the organization together, then FA, and the Draft. Wake's gonna have to wait until they take care of that stuff before they think about re-signing guys for next year.

The Dolphins are the most pathetic franchise. Its humourous how completely incompetent and dysfunctional they are.

We coming up on DRAFT. Am I the only one who thinks we need to sign our good players now and deal with the draft later.

We letting go/pissing off good players in the hopes of picking up acorns in the draft.

You want to kill Jeff Ireland because the football team you root for is doing well in the off season? Or because he asked Dez whos dad was a pimp if his mom was a prostitute? Or because he's not a great gm? Doesn't seem like reasons to want to murder someone. You might be out of your mind, get help.

Sick of players holding out. I like Wake, but play your contract out, prove it on the field and you'll get paid!

isn't doing well i mean

I Think this(Wake) Might be a way for Wake to flee the mess that is now the Miami Dolphins, Lets face it, It's rebuilding time and Wake being at his prime wants nothing to do with this train wreck, He might fetch a third round pick, Maybe one of 3 or 4 second round picks that New England seems to get ever year, Who knopws, I See the two headed Monster Ross/Ireland trading him and picking up a ACORN or two..How sad...
:(

Its not mild to sit out. Obviously, Wake is a little upset Jeff Ireland is low balling him.

You said that already Ohio lol

After the mistake they made with Matt Roth...

After all the mistakes they made with Jayson Taylor...

After not even bothering to pay attention to Zach Miller...

After letting Mike Nolan resign...

Wake actually appears to be one of the few
decent players that can improve the team.

Yes lets be held hostage by a cfl player who had one good season the year before last. Wake isn't a super star, he needs help on the other side or he is invisible. Whatever happened to playing out your contract and proving your worth? This stinks of his agent being scared about a decline, again in his play this season and no other team being interested in signing a long contract because of two mediocre years after one big one. Players come and go, the team is here forever, stop falling in love with bodies, they don't care about us.

Jack, Ireland low balls all players

What's wrong with rebuilding and keeping two or three good players?

Jeff is tearing down the entire house, including the foundation, to rebuild. That's makes no sense! Keep the foundation and build a new house.

THAT MAKES SENSE!

Jeff has been there long enough to know if the foundation is cracked. Did it all of a sudden crack? So now he has tear down the entire house and rip up the foundation? He didn't know the foundation was cracked four years ago.

THIS DUDE HAD RESPONSIBILITIES THE LAST FOUR YEARS. BUT NOW ITS ALL TUNA'S FAULT?

Wake will be 31 next year. Keep him for one more year at franchize then cut him.

Posted by: BoulderPhinfan | April 10, 2012 at 02:56 PM

Great, then we can what? Replace him with a freaking wanna be acorn? Or another Free Agent that will command as much if not more money? Then we can hope that either one will live up to billings and play half as good as Wake.

Wake has at least 3 SOLID years left in him. Extrend the guy now and avoid having to search for another premier pass rusher. Or avoid having to pay through the nose and cap strap yourself like Buffalo did this year.

We already have one of the best pass rushers in the league. Find his bookend to maximize his skills and extend him three years. Now, while management still has some leverage.

You think players(esp. free agents already don't want to come here)? Let Ireland screw this up too and see if it doesn't get worse(if thats even possible).

"Its a bad move on Wake's part. A new scheme, new coaches, and he chooses to "hold out" on a contract he coveted just 3-yrs ago. AZ,

If he suffers a substantial injury this season then his big pay is gone. That's life in the NFL.

I love how people say he's a pro & should honor his contract. Well guess what??? A team can cut a player at any time so those contracts are not far from guaranteed on the team's end. Playing in the NFL is not a regular job like we have. Players have a very short shelf life & clearly he's outplayed his contract. He's slated to make $615,000 & he should be making AT LEAST $6 Million (Ray Edwards signed a 5 year/$30 Million deal with the Falcons last year) a year by NFL standards.

Odin, When, WHEN will we(DOLFANS) be released from the follies of the two headed monster known as Ross/Ireland?(BTW I hear that Ross/Ireland mean clueless in Sweden)

Irescum is great at making enemies.

The JETS will scoop up Wake in a second..
