How far is Cam Wake willing to go to make point?

Today marked the first day of the Dolphins 2012 offseason conditioning program. Cameron Wake did not attend in protest of the fact he has one year remaining on his contract and wants an extension and doesn't have anything close to that right now.

Wake obviously deserves a new contract in due time.

The Dolphins want to give him that new contract in due time.

The question is what is the appropriate due time.

Wake obviously believes that time is now and he took this mild step to make his point. But here is the question:

How far is he willing to go to make the point more strongly? If he doesn't have an extension will he sit out OTAs? Will he sit out the mandatory minicamp? Will he sit out training camp?

As he increases the pressure he puts on the team by missing increasingly important dates he also loses traction in that he is obligated to be present, can be fined and, ultimately, is still under contract for 2012.

So this bears watching going forward.

Does the same go for Ireland?

HEY MORON, THEY DID NOT WIN FOUR CHAMPIONSHIPS DURING THAT TIME. WHY CAN'T YOU UNDERSTAND THAT? ARE YOU JEFF IRELAND OR SOMETHING?

DEFINE CHAMPIONSHIPS? ARE YOU INCLUDING THE AFC EAST, AFC CONFERENCE AND SUPERBOWLS? IF SO, THEN YOU ARE STILL F'ING WRONG.

Jack, The Pats won 4 Championships during the time(You forgot to add that)..

WowJack, Calmdown, Maybe you should enter the "Spend the weekend With Aloco" Contest., You seem to be Angry for some reason.

LOL!!!! WowJust Pick up a sports almanac before you post stupid things next time.

I have a right to be hostile man. My people have been persecuted by folks like Jeff Ireland.

FOr some reson players think it is an insult to play under a one year contract or play with only 1 year left on a contract. Shut up and play, if you play great then you will make even more after next year. In my opinion players that don't like to play under these circumstances are afraid that in reality they arn't that good and wont get paid by anyone when they are free agents. But hopefully this does get fixed and we do sign him, because I do beleive he is good. YOU SIGNED A CONTRACT, now deal with it like a man.

LOL!!!

Round 1 Pick 1: JackSparrow

Mr. Irrelevant: Just Passing by

MyBad Jack, Thanks for the correction, they only won 3 Super Bowls since 2001. My Bad... BTW how many Super Bowls Di....... Never mind, I think we agree that we're dissapointed with the fins..

People acting like Wake is at fault here are ridiculous hippocrits.

You know that if in your work place there were all kinds of dolts screwing around and screwing up, yet making more money than you, you would be having a Hissy Fit.

You would be complaining to the old lady, the co workers and probably anybody else that would listen.

You ain't fooling nobody. Now Shaddup!

LOL!!!

Do you think we are stupid? You have to keep posting under that name because you can't appear to have run away from the beat down you just got. So now you have to play flip flopper and THEN run away only to start posting under another ignorant name.

NY "G" (@ 5:20 PM)

Wake Currently makes 560K per year.

Just because he's earned a million Dollars over multiple years does not mean he has 'Net Assets' of a million dollars.

Remember...
The definition of 'a Millionaire' is a person with net ASSETS of over a Million Dollars WITHOUT
counting the value of their primary residence.

THAT'S the measuring stick.

I doubt that Wake (or the majority of NFL Players) have that level of wealth.
.
.

I will tell you guys right now. Judges base a NFL players net worth on the UN-GUARANTEED money. That's why these guys go broke paying 100K a month in child support on one kid.

A kid who's mother was on welfare before the kid was born.

LOL!!!

You're people ??

Has Jeff Ireland been persecuting
P I R A T E S ??
.

"Dolphins worked out free agent LBs Jonathan Goff, Quentin Groves, Gary Guyton, and Bryan Kehl.
We knew Groves and Guyton were scheduled to visit Miami. It now looks like the Dolphins aim to sign one backup linebacker from the group of four working out. Goff's only other reported visit was to Cleveland three weeks ago."

The player willing to accept the least amount of money will be a Dolphin. This is the saddest FA I have ever experienced.

I'm still holding out hope that this turns out to be a good draft BUT come on......Just sign Wake & get this over with.

Okay, that was pretty humorous.

Just Passing by = DB/YG

Yeah, That was funny.

I'm out guys.

I just need y'all to understand Jeff is lost in the sauce. All this dude has to go on is his upbringing. That's why he asked a grown man if his mother was ho.

Jeff doesn't know anything about football other than what his grand pappy told him. Anything else, he's just making up as he goes.

Jeff Ireland needs to be fired BEFORE the start of the DRAFT. We can not go into the DRAFT with Jeff Ireland in charge. It will be a total nightmare.

The Dolphins are so cheap its sickening. Remember when they're draft picks have to hold out just to get paid fairly.

Grandmother has applied butter to her breasts.

On form Ireland will probably trade Wake to New England for two fifth round picks...to get more 'depth'.

go fins!

i agree with people that say you sign a contract, now go honour it and play your ass off and earn a new deal. Wake has done that in fairness 'so far'. This guy won't be earning as much as others, but i am convinced miami want to keep him AND jake long. now so far jake long has kept quiet, so hopefully he understands that the team will get to deal with him after the draft and I beleive JL is going about his business in athe correct manner. Reference wake, I guess the speech that JT gave the locker room when he retired about cherishing your time in the nfl was lost on a few players......unless thye thought he meant 'get as much money as you can'

When analyzing a contract extension for Cam Wake you 1st need to compare him to the players he most mirrors and then look over their deals before offering Wake one. I believe he most closely mirrors Jerome Harrison in Pitt. who is also somewhat one dimensional in the fact he is pretty much a pass rusher coming off the edge at the WLB spot who can only really be used in a short zone in pass coverage, although Harrison has great vertical movement setting the edge while this has proven the weakness in Wake's game.

You then look at the fact Wake turned 30 recently and again look at Harrison who got a 6 Yr. 51.5 Mil. deal from Pitt in 09 at the age of 31 at the time. I remember at the time thinking it was a bit much then saw that just a little north of 20 Mil. was actually guaranteed through signing bonuses ect.. and think we just need to be creative about packaging a deal that gives Wake his bragging rights among the games best in terms of the size of his deal while really guaranteeing around 20 Mil. over the next 3 seasons back loading the last 3 years in money he either renegotiates or we cut loose on what will be by then a 34 Yr. old pass rusher.

It is after all a business and while he deserves to get a new deal we deserve a return on our investment and feel this deal doesn't break our bank and keeps him in Dolphins colors for the prime of his playing career. The Steelers committed 61.5 over 6 Years in LaMarr Woodley with close to 30 Mil in guarantees but he will probably move over to WLB after Harrison is gone with Timmons going over to SLB were he's best suited. It's not just a matter of throwing money at it but in the FA era seeing it like College with rapid player turnover then positioning your moves thinking a few years forward and this is were Miami's FO fails miserably.

Wake should sit out the season unless he's paid fairly. This FO is pathetic.

Alan,

Wake is a 30 Yr. old player with about 4 to 5 years max left on his Pro career, he isn't 26 in his 1st FA go around. There is no way he sits out a Yr.

where can i get paper bags!!

fin4life,

Good post at 7:11. The Dolphins found a bargain in Wake as he didn't cost a draft pick or a ton of money to this point.

CFL players rarely pan out in the NFL but Wake has been a gem. He's a pure pass rusher and not necessarily a great run stopper but he his the best player on our defense.

I'm not a fan of him holding out though and it's the last thing we need right now. The Dolphins could have and should have nipped this in the bud though and made extending his contract a priority earlier.

Pay the man already! He's the top ranked 3-4 outside linebacker in the league and making less than the kicker!? Not to mention our only seasoned starter on the outside. He's proved his worth, the hold up has to be about age.

Why should Wake risk injury when he gets a 1000% raise next year?

You might question he's not great at run stopping but he IS an elite pass rusher. Besides nobody on the Team can match his motor and his desire(except maybe YB).

How do you get rid of all these anti-American People living in this Country. Eventually, they will harm us.

"Wake is due $615,000 in the final year of his contract and wants significantly more, preferably as part of an extension. But Miami likely will need to clear cap space to accomplish that, because the Dolphins only have about $6 million in cap space, and need much of that to sign draft picks."

So they don't have the cap space to afford giving Wake a well deserved extension & they clearly can't afford to pay any decent FA's (other than Richard Marshall) to come here so how the f#ck did Ross & Ireland figured they could afford to pay Peyton Manning to play here??? Did Ireland think he that Manning was going to play for the league minimum??? I don't get it.

The Fins need to use their #1 pick on Coples or Ingram.

Someone that will start from day 1 and complement Wake.

WAKE should get a better contract than Coples or Ingram.

Forget Tannehill!

"Offensive tackle Lydon Murtha and defensive lineman Phillip Merling signed their restricted free agent tenders on Tuesday. Murtha will earn $1.927 million next seaosn and Merling will make $1.26 million."

So basically Murtha who missed all of last season with a toe injury will make three times what Wake will make this year & Merling who has made 7 tackles in the last two seasons will make double what Wake makes. I think that makes perfect sense.

i agree continue to build a good young defense.

Defense Wins,

I wouldn't be surprised if that's what Ireland does. Or trades down if he has the chance.

I'd like to see us take a QB but I don't think Ireland has the stones to take a QB that high. 2nd round QB's are more his speed.

I love the coverage here but please STOP with the annoying pop up ads. I'll go elsewhere if this continues.

In the second round Fins should take the best WR available.

didnt wake sign his current contract? so whats the problem

If you want to build the defense take MLB Kuechley at 8 and DE Whitney Mercilous at 41.

Kuechley will be Pro Bowler for the next 8 seasons.

Mercilous will line up opposite Wake as DE's.

Kuechley will also allow for Dansby to slide out to Wakes former LBer spot.

With two picks we can upgrade our front 7 into one of the best there is!

Just Do IT Jeffy!

Ross gives Irescum a raise but wont pay Wake fairly? WTF?

next 8 seasons, lol ill take that bet......with any player

"I'm not a fan of him holding out though and it's the last thing we need right now. The Dolphins could have and should have nipped this in the bud though and made extending his contract a priority earlier."

No one is a "fan" of Wake holding out (except maybe Wake's agent) BUT I don't see how fans could possibly blame him.

In the last month it seems like every single day there is a new PR bomb. We should have never made the trade for Brandon Marshall, we can't afford FA's or FA's don't want to come here, Ross & Ireland said we need to address the QB position & now we're okay with Matt Moore & David Garrard, Ireland says he would never cut Bell b/c of what he means to the tema & then he cuts Bell. Enough already!!! Ross & Ireland(& our capologist) have to find a way to pay Wake & make it fit under the cap.

We can bet now, but I'm collecting the interest for all 8 years when you have to pay up.

Odinseye,

I like both players but I don't see Mercilus being available in the 2nd. He's coming off a monster season.

Fins gave Henne three years to prove himself.

They should let Moore play out this year to see how much more he improves with Gerrard pushing him. I believe Gerrard will make Moore better than the #12 ranking that he had for the last nine games or so..

Moore was the offensive player of the week at least twice last year.

They should pick a late round QB that can compete with Devlin for #3 QB.

I don't believe Moore will disappoint.

Solia, Starks and McDaniels as the interior rotation.

Wake, Mercilous and Odrick rotating at End.

Kuechley, Dansby and Burnette at Backer.

If Kevin Coyle sees this post, he'll probably offer me a job!

Wake should demand a trade and get out of this cheap cespool.

The Fins gave Henne 4 years.

lol deal

100 percent false on moore being off player of the week, lol
