Miami Dolphins in trade-down mode

I alluded yesterday to the idea the Dolphins could trade down from the No. 8 overall selection in the first round and today that idea is picking up steam as multiple club sources are telling me at this hour Miami has spoken to at least three teams about moving back.

Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland said at his pre-draft press conference that moving up and moving back are both possibilities. Well, moving up not so much.

Moving back definitely has a chance.

Simply, the Dolphins like the idea of possibly trading back two to 8 slots and picking up a second-round selection for their trouble. That's why Ireland has been in talks with the teams to gauge that possibility.

That doesn't mean the Dolphins absolutely are trading back. We won't know until the process begins and players start to come off the board. But Miami wants to be prepared.

The Dolphins are obviously in a good position for this move because players such as Mark Barron, Fletcher Cox, and some believe Justin Blackmon, might be on the board when the Dolphins select. Those players could cause other teams to place a higher value on Miami's slot than even the Dolphins do.

We shall see.

IF Blackmon is there you draft him or get a king's ransom for the pick.

Dolfan Rick,

I'm just telling it like it is.

Ohio is an idiot and so are they. But by the looks of their site they need the links on here way more than Ohio

Armando should stop them now before they get just as bad as Ohio

Let me tell you young bucks a little something about Blackjack.

You can hit or stand on the hard 16. Chances are you will BUST.

Ireland has the hard 16 in his hand right now. I argue he has a soft 16 because he has Moore and Garrard.

You guys want the man to double down on a hard 16. I'm made a little money in Vegas in my day. I never take a hit on a hard 16.

3 things are certain. Death, taxes, and Irescum will screw up another draft.

Trade down. We need more junk.

Hey YG:

If we don't pick Decastro for any reason, what would be your OT and OG picks???

Hydra...i think either Reiff at Tackle, or I wouldnt mind seeing local boy Washington get a shot...but Reiff didnt look all that at the Combine..but they say he fits the athletic type of tackle that fits the WCO...

Did YG forget to change his name back?

It looks like we have another name changing troll.

FYI,

Who cares if they post a link or not. It's a free country. People can choose if they wanna go there or not.

Why don't you police the trolls posting mindless babble non stop.

Trolls keep it interesting

Ohio talks the same boring football crap over and over and over again

With a soft 16 draft, Ireland can take a hit on the OL or defense. Now he's sitting at the hard 16. But why double down on a hard 16 with Tanne?

There's reason Matt Moore only has 25 starts in 5 years?

That's all you got? Talk about a biased slant!

Moore was on teams practice squad his first two seasons. He worked his way up and EARNED his shots. There's no shame in that.

He didn't get any of the fringe benefits that all the higher reound picks get. And you know as well as I do, they get tons. Not the least of which is continued "Passes" for bad performances.

No sir, Moore earned EVERYTHING and EVERY CHANCE he's got. If anything, your comments only strengthen the Moore argument. NICE!

the draft is sweet this year,The Dolphin should and will trade away there 8# pick because mr Tan has not prove anything yet and they do not need any on shore product @ this moment get back a first and second round pick, if he is around then they pick him, If not next year you give up 2 first round pick and get the best QB. DO NOT FORGET DOLPHIN next year there is 2 or 3 better QB than Tannie. do not regret do not pick him un less its later. 10/4

Aloco ur n idiot period .....

to Aloco,
why would we give up future 1st. round picks to move up 5 spotsto get a reciever, luck or rg3, but not blackmon. If he falls to eight, maybe take him. you need to use common sense and giving up picks to move up isn't smart. tannehill is no more talented than some of the 2nd round Qbs, he would be a wasted pick. trade down for a 2nd round pick. that will give us enough quality picks to fill all the holes we have, corner, de, saf and qb. 1st round , take the best avai. de or corner after trading down. barron or cox hopefully.

Why not give up a future 1st round if we're going to be so good this season with Philbin? And all of Ireland's little acorns?

That means the first round would be a very very very late round pick. Almost like giving up a 2nd round pick correct?

Even you folks know any future first round picks will be top 10 picks.

Not much confidence in your boy Ireland I see.

Odinseye you're an idiot. Matt Moore is just a backup that got hot for a few games. In 2006 Joey Harrington won 4 straight games with the Dolphins before crashing back down to Earth. You can't bank on a career loser like Moore.

FYI,

Sorry to burst your bubble but check out these two time stamps:

Hydrashock,

Forget OT in 1st or 2nd rd. If we had DeCastro, Jerry could play RT. Cordy Glenn is the next best OG, but Im a little hesitant on pulling the trigger on him 1st rd.

In this case I would hope Jerry could pan out at RG, then perhaps draft a mid round LT and stick him at RT.

It looks like we have another name changing troll.

Posted by: FYI | April 26, 2012 at 03:09 PM

I answered at 2:53 PM, if I had already answered with an alias, doesnt make sense to comeback using a troll name right? Plus, if we drafted Reilly Reiff, I'll be like Charlie Brown going, "Good Grief"!

We have Jake Long, Spending a 1st rd pick at OT is absolutely ludicrous imo. Not once have you seen me advocate Relley "Good Grief" Reiff! LOL

Cousins, Ostweiler, Weeden, and the rest of the 2nd or 3rd round QB's all have major flaws and won't be that good. I don't see any of those guys except for maybe Weeden being franchise type QB's. The Dolphins schedule next season is too easy to choke like they need to to get one of the top two guys next season, and you know Ireland won't trade up for Barkley. They might as well just bite the bullet and take Tannehill. He already knows the system we're going to run, he's smart, athletic, and has a strong arm with a quick release. Trading down seems like a bad idea to me unless we're just blown away by the offer.

You guys are missing the joke.

The only reason the media keeps blabbing away about Tannehill to Miami is because od desperation.

Also, it's a good media follow up to them saying how we struck out on Manning, Smith and Flynn.

NOBODY, and I do NOBODY will take Tannehill in the first round. And here's where the joke comes in, they believe that nobody else is dumb enough or desperate enough to spend such a high pick on Tannehill.

He's a big freaking joke and EVEYBODY(except some fans here apparently)knows it.

The press and the media got pissed at Ireland because he was the buffer for Parcells and his wall of silence. They were always defered to Ireland and he would give them the run around.

Then the Dez Bryant affair drove in a deeper wedge between Ireland and the media.

That is why the guys that bad mouth Miami(Sapp, Porter and Ryan, etc, etc get all the media play. That's also why the portrayed our free agent QB quest in such a negative light.

Tannehill is a joke(before the 3rd round), the media is just rubbing it, pumping it up and hoping Ireland will fall for it. Then, when he does, the press will absolutely crucify him for picking the guy so high.

Tannehill is the joke and the media is trying to play it on YOU!

FYI,

Anyway, its seems youre fast becoming the biggest troll here. If I were a betting man, I would say youre Oscar Canosa.

You seem to contribute very little football worthy post but absolutely love finding anything you think you can troll about. Reminds of exactly who you probably are:

OSCAR "Many Troll Names" CANOSA

You can change the screen names but cant change the troll dipshit mentality. LOL

Odin - Get ready to laugh a lot this season because you will be calling for him to start by mid season. :)

Armando, FYI is being trolled by a fake FYI, I like him though, he warned you that Lou and Texas Dolfan who are both advertising their blogs on your blog. Please ban them.

To the fake FYI, good job for pointing them out.

BARF FOR BARKLEY IN 2012!!

Eric,

Your best argument is to call names-ROTFLMAO!

Yeah, it's ok, don't speak to any of the legitimate points or facts.

IF Miami doesn't take Tannehill, how far will he fall? I can definitely see him falling to the Brownies late first round pick. And who knows? Brownies could pass on him there and hope to see him at the top of the 2nd.

Tannehill to Miami at #8 is a bad joke, and the joke's on us!

Why do trolls like Oscar Canosa think changing screen names hide who they are? They seem to forget, they can change the screen names, but cant change the troll dipshit mentality. LOL

I can't stand the pressure...Bartender! I need a shot of Tequila and keep em' coming till the Fins pick.

What loser spends their time creating a 2012 Mock Draft. WTF get a life please.

Sicilian sorority? I'm sure Vince LOMBARDI would agree with you, or maybe Dan MARINO?

FYI,

If youre being trolled, I deply appoligize. If so, I almost guarantee you it's Oscar Canosa. That guy's the troll of all trolls on this blog.

He's sick, deranged, and just seem to not be able to help himself. God bless him. LOL

Matt Moore will NOT be the starter.

This system is absolutely the worst thing for him. Need to make quick decisions and need accuracy.

Take Tannehill. So what if he's the third best QB in the draft? What was Ben Roethlisberger? A project who played in MAC against inferior competition. Started on a team with a great D. How did that turn out?

Tannehill is viewed as the better talent than all other options in the draft and we have the staff that should in theory be able to maximize his potential.

And for those of you who say he didn't win games, or has whatever completion %, you clearly haven't watched any film of him or A&M games. You'd know that

a) He averaged > 30 pts in those losses
b) The defense collapsed often
c) His team dropped something like 70 passes last year.

I think we should start talking about Mark Barron. Get a few teams worrying he'll be gone.

Come to think of it,it's been a long time since we had a stud safety roaming our secondary.

Ladies and Gentlemen the jester of the blog YG everbody give it up to the Jester!

Why do trolls like Oscar Canosa think changing screen names hide who they are? They seem to forget, they can change the screen names, but cant change the troll dipshit mentality. LOL

The same can be said for you, Dying Breed. A name changing, blog trolling idiot.

You are the blueprint to build an idiot.

Those that are projecting the Fins to trade down for a 2nd round pick and still getting Coples have Tannehill dropping out of the 1st round.

So...

Fins could get Coples and still get Tannehill in the second.

or...

as I said before, get Coples and use the two 2nd round picks and a later round pick to move back into the 1st round to get DeCastro, Janoris Jenkins or the TE Fleener.

That would be two starters. They could then get a QB with a late round pick.

Guys,

Yesterday I called OSCAR CANOSA out for being the chief troll here and like magic. Every single bit of the trollinmg here came to a complete stop for at least 5-6hrs.

No lie guys, I am not kidding!

Recently we’ve seen a upswing in interest in the media regarding Chandler Jones. I have been watching more and more of this guy ever since he started rising up the charts. I really don’t see the excitement. He is tall with long arms and is a decent player but I rate him mid second round.

I guess we will see next year how well he does. I think he will be a solid player but not stand out like a Clay Mathews.

What do you think?

OSCAR CANOSA,

Like clockwork, either you appear just before the trolling begins, or you appear shortluy afterwards.

You know for a FACT Im on to you and so is ALoco.

GUYS, IF YOURE BEING TROLLED ITS 100% OSCAR CANOSA. CONSIDER YOURSELVES WARNED! LOL

YG, STFU alreay you jester. Why should I troll? I dont give a crap what anyone here thinks

No lie guys, I am not kidding!

Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | April 26, 2012 at 03:40 PM

He isn't Kidding. He' Dying Breed.

And NO, I'm not Oscar Canosa.

Believe it or not, there are many trolling you. With good reason.

The person known to have changed their name here is you, Mr. Dying Breed.

BAN TEXAS FOR LINKING HIS BLOG

I KNOW he saw you warn Ohio Armando! Texas is trying to steal your bloggers for his crappy site!

Click on it Armando and join his blog!

Here we go with Kool-Aid Matt Moore talk. Haha. You guys must think 8-8 at best is the way to go.

It's funny these same guys were the ones who said "Matt Flynn was a late round pick for a reason" blah blah blah. Ok so Matt Moore was more than likely undrafted for a reason. And don't give Kurt Warner or Brady as exceptions to the rule.

Face it 1st round QBs dominate the NFL.

NFC Playoffs 2011-2012
1.GB - Rodgers
2.NYG - Manning
3.Saints - Brees was 1st pick of round 2 and was 32nd overall pick which now would make him last pick of round 1 (expansion Texans made it 32 teams)
4.49ers - Alex Smith
5. Lions - Matthew Stafford
6. Falcons - Matt Ryan

AFC playoffs 2011-2012
1. Steelers - Big Ben
2. Ravens - Joe Flacco
3. Broncos - Tim Tebow

So all the NFC teams and and half of the AFC playoff teams all had 1st round QBs and you guys are willing to try to find the EXCEPTION to the rule in the undrafted on his 3rd NFL QB who suddenly explodes onto the scene as a franchise QB?

SMH!

Dying Breed, see above. How can Oscar be trolling you when he & I posted at the exact same time?

Just like everything else, you're wrong as usual.

Care to revise your story or dumbly stick the the one your pushing that's riddled with bullet holes?

The reason people don't want Tannehill:

When everyone buys that hot new item they can't wait to play with it. IMO it puts people off that we'd draft someone that high then not get to see the results asap. People want immediate results.

Trading down might be a good move for the Dolphins.

However, it's important to remember that over the past decade only four teams have drafted fewer All-Pros than the Dolphins.

Both of the top quarterbacks on thier roster were cut by two of the worst teams in the NFL. Elite or every excellent backups are not cut when their cap number is friendly.

This is year FIVE of a rebuild and the team has needs all over the roster - QB, WR, OL, TE, DE, OLB, and secondary.

The OL line has been a joke even with all the draft picks and free agent signings. The pass defense is nearly as bad.

Free Agency saw the Dolphins get rid of Marshall and cut Merling (who was a disappointment in any case) right after resigning him.

The salary cap is a mess and both Long and Wake are unsigned beyond this year. Given the injury history of Long and Wake's advancing age, the Dolphins might be best served by trading their two best players if at all possible.

The Dolphins have no elite playmakers and they will be lucky to find even one in this draft.

Having pointed out all that, the following are the players I like in no particular order (or 'need') that the Dolphins may have a chance to draft at some point:

QB: Weeden, Cousins
TE: Allen, Green
WR: Sanu, Givens, Hilton
RB: Martin
OL: Massie, Schwartz, Silatolu
DL: Curry
OLB: McClellin

Just cause you DRAFT a QB in the first round doesn't make him a franchise QB. Tannehill has 2nd round talent and experience.

I picture OSCAR CANOSA:

4ft tall, huge head, broken rotting teeth, pointy ears, short frog-like arms, 4 fingers no thumbs, 12 inch long yellow and brown curled fingernails, frogged legs with rat's paw feet, and dried wrinkled cancer spotted green skin.

THAT"S OSCAR CANOSA! LOL

I keep hearing Tanny only played 18 games. Ah news flash, dirty Sanchez started one year for USC.

This guy has way more upside than Sanchez.

For me, if they draft Tanny, you do everything possible to get him to start this year!

Trade Ireland for two puppies, and a Kitten

Oscar Canosa,

Are you related to the deceased "Jorge Mas Canosa" who wanted to be President of Cuba once Castro died?

If Blackmon is there at 8 and the Dolphins trade back and don't pick him then Ireland has to be fired. If they don't hit a homerun tonight in the draft then they will lose every fan they have left, what little few remain.

I think Weeden is better option than Tannenhill for teams who need a rookie QB to start right away he recognizes defenses very quick and have a good decision making, but Weeden is not a clear upgrade for us over Moore may be in a year, but for me is an upgrade over Colt McCoy, to say something.
For us taking Tannenhill in the first round is very early. If he is still available at 3rd. then is good option.
If the Cowboys trade with us to get Barron, why not take us Barron instead? we need a strong safety play maker.

Similar to when JJ traded down before the draft and missed out a chance on Randy Moss. Perhaps if Danny had Moss to throw to, the end of his career would have been a little different.

Miami's pick has allot of value right now. I expect them to trade back to 14 with Dallas. Everyone knows Dallas wants Barron badly.

If that happens, don't be shocked when the Jets trade with the Jags to lead frog the Boys to take Barron at 7. The Jags are desperate to trade down.

The Jets biggest need is WR & safety. In a deep WR draft, they can get that later. With no Leonhard, no Poole, a constantly banged up L. Landry, the Jets are desperate.

Swamy, Yes thats my grandfather..

If that happens, don't be shocked when the Jets trade with the Jags to lead frog the Boys to take Barron at 7. The Jags are desperate to trade down.

No trade would be made until the pick happens to prevent the very thing you are describing so this would never happen.

Moving down makes sense. It seems that a new coach would want to build a team around his system with as many of his own players as possible. Short term this can be painful, but long term it is for the best.

to all those for drafting tannehill,
he's a reach at 8. he's a devlopmental qb. he can't start immediatly. he only played a year or two in college, not enough starts. there's no HOF qb to sit behind. seems risky when you can draft a real football player who can start and impact the team NOW! imo, trade down. there are many quality starters in the late first and we can probably get a 2nd for the trade down. we have more needs than just a QB. DE'S and DB's are very deep, both of the 2nd round picks would be able to start.

wu1sabes,

The thing is if Blackmon is there when we pick at 8 we won't take him.

If we make a pick at 8 it will be Tannehill or Cox IMO.

If you guys "trust in Ireland" so much then giving up a first round pick next year is nothing. Or the year after that.

We can always trade back into the first round. That's a no brainer!

Be honest with yourselves. Even you don't believe we will pick in the bottom 1/4 of 2013, 2014 and 2015 NFL draft.

That's why you guys don't want to hedge your bets. You know its not going to happen where we pick 25-32.
