Miami Dolphins select Ryan Tannehill in first round

The Miami Dolphins have selected Ryan Tannehill with the No. 8 overall selection in the first round of the NFL draft.

Tannehill, a Texas A&M product, is the first quarterback the Dolphins select in the first round since 1983 when the team picked Dan Marino.

"It was awesome, it was everything I expected and more," Tannehill said on ESPN of the phone call he had with the team before the pick.

Tannehill is 6-3 and 224 pounds. He threw 29 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions in his 13 starts for the Aggies in 2012. There is an interesting statistic here: Aggies receivers dropped 70 passes this year.

As I have reported earlier, Dolphins owner Steve Ross did not push Jeff Ireland to pick Tannehill. The owner wanted a quarterback but did not demand this quarterback. I'm told Ireland decided Tannehill was his man over a week ago.

I do not expect the Dolphins to say that Tannehill will sit this season. But that is exactly what I expect will happen.

oscar, Nick Perry in round 2 would be great...Probably be gone though...I can see New England taking him...

Poop is my lube.

We can't win what ever we do; right?

If he doesn't work out as a QB him and Hartline can form the best duo white boys WRs in the league or not

poops girlfrined is soooo poopie man i love poop and girls and poop pooop forever buy poop draft poop i love poop

It would have been better if they traded back and got more picks than picked this kid.

Craig M.....Kudos to you and DC Dolfan....looks like you guys...along with many other FIN FANS got exactly what you wanted....

Let's see if we address our immediate needs @ RT, @ DE, & @ WR in the 2nd & 3rd round.

BASED ON THAT PICK;;;;;;;;;;;

1- IRELAND WILL BE OUR GARAGE MANAGER FOR 2 MORE YEARS,,,,,,,,

2- WE WILL BE OUT OF THE CELLAR NEXT YEAR..........

3- YG/DB WILL DIVORCE HIS WIFE FOR NOT GETTING DECASTRO.....

G AY CUN T PICK IF YOU ASK ME

2nd round here we come...

OHHHHH YAAHHHHH. RUB THAT NASTY POOPIE WATER ALL OVER MY HOT NAKED BODY. Smear that corn encrusted poop all over my moist breasts!

I feel like we just drafted Henne all over again.

If he fails it's only a #8; yeah we could have had a solid/good player but I'll take the up side. We'll fail this year and grab another great pick high before Tannehill pans out in a few years and we're successful. Be patient

andrew luck is poop maybe we can draft rgpoop3 in the third round is dan marino in the draft this year what a bout tom brady can we draft him what about dustin pedroia i love poop and poop and baseball and onions and chees asn cats and dogs and tommorow and butter and mayo and katsup and crayons and markers and foosball and table tennis

THIS is as good as Ted Ginn and his family WTF

The BEST thing and failure for the Dolphins BUT Success for the NY ESPN media and NFL network is that THEY succeeded in picking the Dolphins #8.

So next year when you all hear the pundits HYPE someone that is not worthy of a first round, they will put that worthless player right where the Dolphins pick.

YUP... The SCOUT and Deputy Dog Ross fell for ALL THE HYPE about Tenne and the Jets and Pats and Bills are all laughing their butts off at us and the sucker pick.

excuse me? id like my alaskan pipeline right about now...

Relax guys, tannehill is easily the best receiver we have right now... Oh wait, we drafted him as a qb? Alright were screwed

WOW you people suck, bunch of whinny babies. go root for another team, this negativity has been going on to long.

I hope not, Montreal.

STL is going to get who they wanted anyway FLOYD

Oh Matt Moore supporters!

Did you all bump your heads at birth with these he can be a top 10 QB and the clown who said he reminds him of Eli lol.

Let's go lets groom a real QB! Be patient you non-football educated son of guns! Haha I'm giddy what can I say!

Tannehill will be better then RG3, mark it down, take a picture I don't give a F.

Welcome to Miami Tannehill. And your girl is hot!

All of the teams drafting starters...game changers....with Poe being the possible exception....but he will START......and we draft a clip board holder.....

Damn Mando, the blog trolls are as I remember...

Dear whining Phins fans. Kill yourself.

G, us sucking has been going on for too long, what do you expect?

Fletcher Cox would have been the pick with the most impact, but given our QB situation I like Tannehill. Give the kid a year to learn and then starts in 2 yrs. I think most of us will see that Moore was an illusion last year and is nothing but a glorified backup

LOL @ Chris....

i love pipelines and oil riggers and alabama hotpockets and glass bottom boats and angry pirates and cleveland steamers and new york stlye cheese tacos and blue waffles and tony danza's

thAT WAS HIS SISTER lol

Man, are you People gonna look bad. I'm certain most of you will not be posting here under your names this Season. We are certainly gonna get on your asss and remind you of your mistakes.

Good night whiners...

OUR CELLAR FANS DON'T LIKE TANNEHILL ,WHICH TELL ME WE DID THE RIGHT THING ...WE WILL BE OUT OF THE CELLAR NEXT YEAR .......WHILE OUR CELLAR FANS KEEP CRYING .......

HENNE AND BLACMON,,,,,,,,,SOUND GOOD.....

TANNEHILL AND HARTLINE ,,,,,,,,,,SOUND NOT SO GOOD .....

Rob, I understand the disappointment. And yes, I feel it was the right pick, regardless of what Tannehill does. I trust the GM/Coaches/Scouts have enough info on this kid to give him a 50/50 chance to succeed, and to me, that's worth the risk because of the reward a franchise QB would be to this franchise. Any other player they took at that position would have been fine, maybe even great. But would they single-handedly change the long-term prospects for this team? I say no. Drafting a potential franchise QB is the most important thing this team can do to consistently win games and they threw in their chips and let it ride.

GREAT ! FINALLY A FIRST ROUND QB!GO DOLPHINS!

seriously what a fan base....i understand we are all sick of whats been going on in Miami for years, but that ISNT this kids fault...May I remind you that Aaron Rodgers was drafted late mid/first and Tom Brady in the 6th round...point being, none of us know how this will pan out....

but they took a pick, they believe in it and i actually have faith in this coaching staff....

so until I see what Tannehill really, im going to pull for him and support him, like a Dolphins fan who wants to see things change.

This is a DEEP draft folks, PHins have great picks, we are gonna address some big needs....

All you Tannehill naysayers!

Get a clue! Football is about developing players particularly QBs.

Why throw a rookie to the fire? Because you idiots don't realize Miami is in REBUILD mode! So why throw him to the wolves when they are being realistic and know they are not a playoff team in 2012.

You guys are so SHORT sighted when it comes to the NFL. You guys will see how badly RG3 struggles when he is thrown to the wolves. Mark my words!

What no Brady Quinn ???????

Moore to Tanny...let the fun begin.
It will be like Marino to Duper all over again.
Now i see why we got rid of Marshall.
Watch out Patriots here we come.

Philly only gives up a 4th

Oscar....the only guy I know...who can't articulate his thoughts IN PRINT.....without having to type cuss words...

Imagine his every day speech....serious potty mouth....

BLUMPKINS BLUMPKINS BLUMPKINS 4 EVA

So VERY dissapointed with this pick. The ESPN guys really ripped him pretty good. More than half the highlights they showed was the kid making boneheaded throws. They were questioning his judgement. He played his worst games against good teams. He won nothing! He wasn't even projected as a first round talent on Kiper's initial boards! There simply is not enough there to warrant a #8 pick. This kid comes in with LESS credentials, and the same physical talents of Chad Henne or John Beck which were drafted in second rounds. They both sucked. Just because your're tall, athletic and good looking doesn't mean you can play QB. This guy is not a PRO QB! Weeden will outplay this guy every week in some other city! Actually, I doubt this kid will see the field. Matt Moore will beat him out easily this year and maybe the next. Then we'll throw the kid in there 2 years from now and he'll tank.

They could have nailed the defense down strong by drafting a SURE FIRE STARTED AND SUPERSTAR in LB Luke Keuchley. That kid would have converted a decent defense into a good defense, from Day #1. Just like Zach Thomas did as soon as he stepped on the field as a Dolphin. We just passed on the next Brian Urlacher. It didn't take Carolina more than a few seconds to snatch him up as soon as we made the pick.

This will be a FIASCO! This pick is going to set this organization back another 10 years. The expectations of a #8 QB will be way too much for this kid to meet. And they're going to stick with him, even if he stinks, because he was a high pick. Just like they did with Henne. And to top it off, if the team goes 0-16 this year, they won't be able to draft Matt Barkley because, "we drafted a QB in the first round last year".

Let's face it. As long as Jeff Ireland is the GM of this team, we will be the Detroit Lions of the past 15 years. Matt Millen destroyed the Lions as their GM. Ireland is doing the same in Miami.

No, no, ALoco, Tannehill and Nick Toon.

Eagles traded up to get Cox...Wow...They're loaded on "D"...If Vick can stay healthy watch out...

If Sherman says he is worth it...i'm good with it!

Poop is my drug. Im addicted to it. Once a week i go to PAA. (thats poop addicts anonymous for you city slickers)

How does anyone possibly know how he will be in the nfl. Remember Brady was a late draft pick and looks what he has done. Give the guy a chance. He may actually turn out to be good. And does anyone remember a guy named marino who was a late pick?

a reach at 8, if we didnt pick him, he would have slipped to the 20s with possibly cleveland picking him, all we had to do was get before cleveland

I PREDICT IRELAND WILL MOVE UP AND PICK BLACKMON.....

BwaaaHaaaaHaaaaa!!!!

sflafan, if it makes you feel better I wanted Weeden too. But Armando said Miami wasn't considering him due to his age.

Norm,

If chewing gum during the draft is the worst thing he does as Miami's Quarterback, then let's put him in the HOF!

Some fans will use anything to blast a draft pick. He wasn't wearing Armani either....what a draft bust!!! (rolls eyes)

Watch them pick frickin' Alshon Jeffery in the 2nd round.

Man...I hope Miami media leave this kid alone. Next year when we're 5-7 and still have an outside chance at a playoff position...please shut up and stop running articles how Tannehill would make a difference!

BLUMPKIN PIE? I LOVE BLUMPKIN PIE!!! ESPECIALLY WITH A SIDE OF.....

poop

poop,

This is America and you are born with the 'freedom of speech' but your moronic posts should allow the government to revoke YOURS!!!

Great pick. I wanted Henne and Moore but do not have a billion dollars to buy the team. We are in good situation now. Remember Favre /Rodgers.

WTF Is wrong with you people? You want some DE or DT instead of a QB who could develop into a franchise QB? Hasn't 2nd round bust after 2nd round bust proving that this is truly the only way to go? Look, I absolutely despise Ireland and think he is toe jam as a GM, but this is a great pick. If you can't appreciate that or at least give it a chance, may be you should find a new team?
