Ross hopes Tannehill's No. 17 will be retired

Retired numbers
The Dolphins have retired three jerseys since the franchise's fledgling year in 1966. And owner Stephen Ross is rooting that first-round pick Ryan Tannehill is so good, so dominant in fact, that his career will require the team to retire Tannehill's No. 17 when he's through.

"This is your number?" Ross asked Miami's newest quarterback this morning when he handed him his Miami jersey.

Tannehill responded that's exactly the number he wore at Texas A&M. Ross paused. Thought about it. And then said ..

"Hope one day we can retire this jersey."

The Dolphins have all three of their retired jerseys hanging in the lobby wall of their Davie, FL. headquarters. They belong to Bob Griese, Larry Csonka, and Dan Marino. All three are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That is apparently what it takes to get your jersey retired by the Dolphins.

But no pressure, Ryan.

I have to admit I was mad about trading Marshall, but looks like we will be much better off.

Lamar Miller would be a 1st round pick next yr as a Jr.

Egnew caught 90 balls when Gabbart was there and has Jimmy Graham like qualities.

And both WR had over 1300 yrds last year.

.....But its all about the system

Take the best QB in the game out (Rodgers) or a starting WR, and they still would put up over 400 yrds.

I think by 2013, we will be looking pretty damn good

YG

2/10's is the same as 1/5. So a 4.40 dash is a little less than 10 yards per second. 4.0 would be 10 yards a second and not many db's are running that speed. I'd say really the difference in the end is less than half a yard, not 1 yard. Factor in how fast a receiver can make a move, and that juke can easily by you up to a another full yard.

THE WCO OFFENSE IS ABOUT PLAYERS IN DEF CHASING OFF PLAYERS, IN MIAMI WITH THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY THAT WILL BE HUGE.

Str8balla's scoouts gets to pick 300 players because they dont have a team. LOL

I USE MY GOD GIVING ABILITY TO SEE AND UNDERSTAND, NOT SOMEONE ELSE WORK. IM A PRODUCER NOT DEPENDANT

Amen Tony

ion,

Correct. So if a wr is open by 1yd he maybe considered wide open. If he only open by 1/2yd he better be a wr of the physical nature and be able to outfight the defender for the ball. Both late wr's Miami drafted have that capability.

Okay, which ones are opening day starters? I only see 1 maybe 2. Tannehill may start and Martin will start. Egnew is not going to beat out Fasano.

Rd 1, Pick 8 (8) Tannehill, Ryan QB
Rd 2, Pick 10 (42) Martin, Jonathan OT
Rd 3, Pick 9 (72) Vernon, Olivier DE
Rd 3, Pick 15 (78) Egnew, Michael TE
Rd 4, Pick 2 (97) Miller, Lamar RB
Rd 5, Pick 20 (155) Kaddu, Josh LB
Rd 6, Pick 13 (183) Cunningham, B.J. WR
Rd 7, Pick 8 (215) Randall, Kheeston DT
Rd 7, Pick 20 (227) Matthews, Rishard WR

HEY STRA8 THE BIG DIFFERENCE THIS YEAR IS THAT THEY WHEN IN WITH A PLAN BASE ON A PARTICULAR SCHEME AND NOT BASE ON NEED SOME MUCH.

MR. ROSS IS A FOOTBALL MORON WHOM HAS THE RESPECT OF NO ONE IN PRO SPORTS. He must realize every time he speaks about the Marlins, fans react in a negitive way. His ego is costing him money. He talks football and I a convinced that giving up my 4 season ticket, held 10 years prior to last season, was because of this idiot. SHUT UP ROSSS. YOU ARE A OKE WHEN IT COMES TO NFL OWNERSHIP.

Be here all season Gone. Love to hear what you are saying by game 6 of the season.

YG

Well so I am saying the difference in those two 40 times is not a full yard in the end. The difference of 1/5 of a second means the faster receiver might have at best a half yard edge. Now, factor in the juke, it take more time to react than to act, so the receiver can buy up to another full yard separation on that alone.

I wouldn't scoff at a 1/5 of a second time difference if the receiver as enough of the other qualities you look for. Sure you take the faster guy all things being equal, but many times a slightly slower guy might be a better route runner, might have better hands, ect, so of course you weigh everything.

It doesnt matter who starts the season, its who finishes. We are not going anywhere this year.

2013 we need to have a winning record...

I know everyone thinks Tannehill won't start immediately but I think otherwise. I don't see Matt Moore or Garrard beating this kid out. Martin day 1 starter for sure. Egnew will be the 2nd TE. Miller will take ST and KR/PR duty. WR in WCO don't necessarily have a number it's a game of progressions. So Cunningham and Matthews should see playing time. Vernon is the x factor I think he may end up starting LE sooner rather than later. He has the size n strength already to be able to contribute.

Kaddu might get involved too on situational downs where they are sending a will backer blitzing

Randall adds depth to DL. Part of reason NYG is so successful is becuz they keep an effective rotation that helps keep them fresh and explosive.

WELL PEOPLE IT WAS BLESSING DRIVING SOME OF THE CONVERSATION. ONCE A FAN ALWAYS A FAN, WE DONT KNOW THA TRUE GRADING OF THIS DRAFT FOR AT LEAST 2-3 YRS, I DO KNOW AS A HISTORIAN THE DOLPHINS DRAFT ARE USUALLY A C TO D PLUS AFTER SOME YRS. THIS DRAFT LOOKS ON PAPER AS B GRADE.

got a couple more UFA picks

Jonas Gray RB Notre Dame looks real good for a UFA looks like Canada and Slaton are gone

What happened to drafting a safety???

It's a Beautiful Day...Not. The minute I read you're post about Egnew competing with Fasano I realized you should be watching women's tennis cause you are clueless about football. Egnew will be opposite Fasano, not competing with him dumass

Some of the guys aren't going to be on the final roster. If we sign them all then some proven players will have to go.

Other than Martin, the rest are really developmental correct? I know you folks think Ryan is a superstar already but he is still unproven at this level. He's not even that proven at the college level.

Don't these guys have to learn the west coast also? What makes anyone think they can?

I'm very nervous about this draft. 6 of the 9 draft picks were offense. That's a lot of guys trying to learn a new scheme if they all make the roster.

Aaron Henry FS Wisconsin is available

YES!!! One of my sleeper WR's just signed with the Dolphins as a UDFA.

This kid is going to surprise some people.

Derek Moye WR Penn St.

..So this draft showed me a few things. First off, I hope all the picks work out, that Tannehill is the franchise guy we have been looking for..That Ireland got this one right. We will not know for a while, so it is useless to say this player is this or that..

..I'll say this. we added some speed in the early rounds. That is sweet. We added 2 playmakers.. Hopefully 3. The only questions I really have are who is Oliver Vernon, and can Jon Martin make a seemless switch to right tackle.. The players after round 4 I consider bonuses if we get anything from..So to really be critical or praise any of those picks is a waste.

Overall..This is a make or break draft for a lot of folks in this orginization..I hope they got it right.

Someone said that we didn't have anyone to stretch the field and we were gonna be a dink & dunk/run the ball kinda team.

Well, on the 1st part, we've been waiting for Gates to develop. Usually the 2nd year is when a lot of players finally "get it"!

Dink & Dunk/Run the Ball worked pretty good when we went 11-5, didn't it?

This team IS starting to get faster! No more plodding along. But, don't expect it to explode right out of the gate. To do that, you'd have to scrap about half the team and totally start over. THAT'S a rebuild. Like when the Tuna took over and guys like Wes Welker were sent elsewhere. We're not THAT bad! If we were, the "Suck for Luck" crowd would have gotten their way! We're "adjusting" due to the new philosophies, especially the more exciting West Coast Offense. And, there will be some growing pains.

Someone needs to tell the WR's & TE's that have been warming the bench under the Sparano regime that it's time to produce or dust off your resume. Sloppiness in route running and stone hands won't cut it anymore. There's a new sheriff in town and his name's Philbin!

GO FINS!!!

It's a Beautiful Day...Not. The minute I read you're post about Egnew competing with Fasano I realized you should be watching women's tennis cause you are clueless about football. Egnew will be opposite Fasano, not competing with him dumass
=======================================================
See, its silly stuff like this that makes the Dolphin fans the most inept fan base.

West coast doesn't typically use a two TE set.

But you see, you didn't know that did you?

1 point for Beautiful Day.....Egnew and Miller are 2 big time picks!

Even Clay was outplaying Fasano by the end of the year, Egnew is going Beast mode!!!

BYD...Sorry dude, but most modern offenses thst run a varation of the WCO use 2 tight end sets..Shall I name some of the teams??? Here are a few..San Francisco, New Orleans, Houston, Washington(good article in todays post about how Shananhan plans on using 2 tight end sets a lot...Oh yeah Green Bay..I can go on. All of these teams take advantage of this formation..Not as the base, but it is a huge part of the modern WCO..Now 30 years ago when Don Coryell was inventing the offense..You would be right. But saying the WCO offense doesn't typicall use 2 tight end sets..I'm not sure what that means? once a game? Three times a game? Explain?

Also..Go back to Philbins presser about a month ago where he addresses the 2 tight end formation, and how we intend to use it.

Oilivier Vernon might be the most athletic pass rusher in the draft. His production is his biggest knock... Junior year had 10.5 sacks though...

benched 225 32 times and ran around a 4.7 40

TE like Egnew will certainly line up everywhere as well. OUtside inside aas aHback w/ Clay. very versatile

UDFA’s so far include:

Jeff Fuller WR Texas A&M 6'4" 223
Jacquies Smith OLB Missouri 6'3" 253
Dustin Waldron OT Portland State 6'5" 305
Jonas Gray RB Notre Dame 5'10" 223
Derek Moye WR Penn State 6'4" 209
Kelcie McCray S Arkansas State 6'2" 202
Shelly Lyons LB Arizona State 6'2" 240
Albert Evans SS Purdue 6'0" 210

From Philbin via Mando on twitter.

Philbin says QB coach Zac Taylor spent only 3 hours with Tannehill and felt comfortable QB knows playbook.

That is impressive!

Can somebody PLEASE tell Ross to STOP making crazy statements?!

Henne was going to be the 'next Dan Marino'

now...

Hoping Tannehill is going to have his jersey retired?

Let the kid win a game before putting him in the HOF or Dolphins Ring of Honor!

Thank goodness Marshall is gone.

I think that Miami intends to run a modified WCO that may resemble some college Spread Offenses. It should be a cross between what Sherman ran at Texas A&M last year and slowly evolve into more of Green Bay-style Offense by next year. This makes the most sense. It will be easier to transition into, from what Daboll ran under Sparano, into what Philbin wants to see us run.

I, for one, wish to apologize to Jeff Ireland for anything that I may have said about your abilities as a General Manager. This year's draft shows me that you do know what you're doing. And, I support your picks for the Dolphins. I hope that you do just as well with the undrafted free-agents. However, it normally takes 2-3 years to truly determine a draft, so I will withhold judgement concerning your "greatness" as a GM. You did good, leave it at that.

Tracy, you can include last years draft too in your statement. He gave Sparano what he wanted and also brought speed into the mix.

I'm really curious to see which WR make the squad. Just going to put it out now... I like Moore Wallace and Pruitt but with the new coach I'm pretty sure he wants his own guys and all three are gone. Room for Fuller, Cunningham, and Matthews. plain and simple it's a buisness just hope one doesn't breakout. But in that case i'd still blame Sporano.

Just like he said henne will be the next Marino..

out of the three Moore worries the most for some reason

Go and get Brett Roy for more depth on DL he had 10 sacks to lead the WAC for Nevada and 19 tackles for loss... really productive and he's strong as an ox.

Hopefully 99 will be retired.

Who drafted McButt?

Day Three Steals

Round 4: No. 2—Lamar Miller, RB, Dolphins

Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images
Many experts had Lamar Miller ranked as a first-round talent, but he ended up falling all the way to the fourth round. Instead of sleeping in and missing the first few picks, this is exactly the kind of epic fall that you can’t afford to miss. The Dolphins get the steal of the draft.

Mix our draft with the UDFA's, add to the veterans already on the roster and let the competition for 2012 Miami Dolphin roster begin!

I can't wait to see what happens once some of out players are "coached up"! Apparently, Coach Philbin already saw a few problems in "basic fundamentals" during voluntary veteran workouts! THAT has been our problem, in my opinion; poor coaching, inept clock management, bad play-calling, bad communication, unorganized everything...

And, thank God...no more Dallas rejects...please!

BOYCOTT THE FINS UNTIL IRELAND IS FIRED!! WE'RE TIRED OF THE LOSING! HELP MAKE A CHANGE!!

BS! The only reason to run a modified WC is inside your own 10.

Two TE sets is what they run in New England. They don't run WC.

For you Dolphin fans who don't even know what you are talking about here are the RULES for west coast.

http://www.centuryinter.net/midway/chris/westcoast/wco.pdf

Looks like Sherman got his playbook off the interwebs. Everything in there is what he is doing.

All I know is that the experts have given the Dolphins an average draft score (C), and the Patriots have a score of A+. The gap widens.

PS...if Philbin is running a modified WC then its not a WC. Its a spread offense.

Philbin = Cameron

Drafting Lamar Miller just shows what a bust D Thomas is.

Can anyone imagine Chandler Harnish becoming a star and Andrew Luck a bust?

First look at RT's wife .If RT plays as well as he picks wives I think we are going to the playoffs.GO FINS.

Ross is delusional. The kid is going to have a hard time throwing the ball more than 10 yards in games. Get ready for a TON of picks from the new NRA QB.

Only three? What about Jim langer and Larry little and morris
