The Dolphins say they intend to be more transparent with their fan base now. That's why Joe Philbin and Jeff Ireland have conducted conference calls with season ticket holders in recent weeks, including last night. That's why owner Stephen Ross has promised to get on a similar call with the same constituency after the draft, probably in May sometime.
I think that's a good idea for the most part.
I want to jump on board the transparency bandwagon, too. That's why after quite some time without one, I think a live blog chat is in order. For today. Let's say 2 p.m. in the comments section.
I'll answer questions, exchange ideas, accept criticisms and pats on the back, and mostly talk Dolphins football with you.
We can discuss the draft, with the Dolphins looking at Ryan Tannehill, Justin Blackmon, Quinton Coples, Brandon Taylor, and various other WRs, QBs, DBs, pass-rushers and offensive linemen.
We can discuss Miami's coming 2012 schedule, including the preseason schedule which is tentatively supposed to come out this week.
We can discuss free agency as constituted.
We can talk long-term possibilities for this team or the short-term realities.
As the blog says, no taboo subjects. I do not censor questions.
If you cannot be here for the live chat at 2 p.m., leave your question or comment in the section below and I'll address those before we get crackin'.
Talk to you at 2 p.m.

Dusty, I think our future is ruined until Ireland is cut loose or until "Hollywood" Ross sells the team....

Not talking about using athletes as role models, But writing about how teams tanking the season is a bad message for children.
Sorry for confusing your point...
If you had one to begin with???
Posted by: Frank | April 04, 2012 at 11:48 AM
I thinks it's a bit steep to say that our 6 wins will directly affect our next 6-7 years. If we are really that bad this year then we'd immediately have a top 5 pick next year
Posted by: Ohio Dolfan | April 04, 2012 at 11:48 AM
The Colts tried to compete by signing Kerry Collins, who was subsequently placed on IR, citing a concussed cranial cavity as the cause.
I think he was just hung over.

probaly right menace
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 11:53 AM
5-11 should be bad enuff for the 5th pix in 2013.maybe 4th.
Posted by: 2 watt | April 04, 2012 at 11:53 AM
yeah 2 watt, we need to be in that top 5 range
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 11:53 AM
i heard they called archie too since they had extra jerseys with the name manning on them already isray figured he could save some money
Posted by: 41phish | April 04, 2012 at 11:54 AM
LOL At Fodder, I think you found out the cause of Odins illness......
Posted by: Cuban Menace | April 04, 2012 at 11:54 AM
Exactly 2 Watt.......I hope we win enough to go to the playoffs this year.........but if not we continue to build with high draft picks.
If we are successful at the next 2 drafts it will not be 6-7 years in the dungeon, I guarantee you that.
Posted by: Ohio Dolfan | April 04, 2012 at 11:55 AM
Clue no team would do what you propose. There are things called pride, ethics, character,. Maybe something you lack.
Posted by: Michael | April 04, 2012 at 11:56 AM
ohio better find a qb then. we should of done everything to move up to number 2
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 11:56 AM
yeah 2 watt, we need to be in that top 5 range
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 11:53 AM
With Ross/Ireland at the Helm, you could almost guarrentee a top 8 pick tell there gone...JMHO, I might be wrong..
Posted by: Cuban Menace | April 04, 2012 at 11:57 AM
I can't argue with you there Dusty.
A QB needs to be found as quickly as possible
Posted by: Ohio Dolfan | April 04, 2012 at 11:57 AM
That's it be stupid, the 2 out of last 3 wins means nothing, I know, you guys know more.
Posted by: Michael | April 04, 2012 at 11:57 AM
Ethics?? Bounties. Dog fighting. Ridiculous ticket prices?
Steroids?
Get a clue.??
Posted by: Frank | April 04, 2012 at 11:57 AM
if we give philbin 3 seasons then 2014 is the year we take back the afc east. we may struggle for 2 years but i am willing to be patient as we rebuild/re-tool
Posted by: 41phish | April 04, 2012 at 11:58 AM
michael u dont tell the players, u adjust game plans, who plays when, etc
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 11:58 AM
yeah, orlovsky...remember when he did the 'safety dance' against the vikes?
yikes.
Posted by: Blog Fodder | April 04, 2012 at 11:58 AM
yeah michael kinda strange huh, win one game all year and then realize its all but wrapped up and decide to win a few
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 11:59 AM
Right that's what happened right, get a clue about how life really is.
Posted by: Michael | April 04, 2012 at 12:01 PM
All you guys saying we dont need a QB at #8. Would you rather have Woodley or Marino? We drafted Marino coming off a Superbowl appearance. Take Tannahill and be set for a long time.
Posted by: Frank | April 04, 2012 at 12:04 PM
dusty nailed it perfectly, no one saying lay down or drop a ball on purpose, go out there and compete just with Devlin as your QB and John Jerry as your LT, Playing Long in thoughs game cost him his sholder big time dont be surprised if he begins his steady decline in 2012.
Posted by: Clue | April 04, 2012 at 12:05 PM
ughhhh tannehill cant hold marinos jock right now even
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 12:05 PM
Why wouldn't RG3 report to the colts for a visit? after stating he wants to be #1, why would he not go to indy and make his case to be #1... is it because, he doesn't want to waste his time or because he would rather be a redskin? As for the dolphins, Why are we trying to over pay for tannenhill, I know we need a franchise QB & are desparate for one... Tannenhill was never considered a franchise QB until there were no other options, as much grief as ireland & ross get, so far on the QB front they done very well, they haven't brought in QB's that are no closer to a franchise QB than what we have, just for the sake of change & waste resources... Sparano was the worst coach I have ever seen, period at any level of coaching in any sport, but he was likeable & seemed like a really nice guy, but he just didn't get it. I am excited to see what the new coaches can bring out of our current players. What current players do you think will flourish under the new coach that floundered or didn't perform under sparano... I would guess Hartline will double his production this year.
Posted by: Canada Phil | April 04, 2012 at 12:05 PM
we talking life or nfl michael?
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 12:06 PM
he would rather be a skin, much closer to winning
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 12:06 PM
I'll lack all of theough qualities proundly if the Dolphins can become a winning franchise again. Give me James Harrison or some mean SOB to knock out the opposing team QB.
Posted by: Clue | April 04, 2012 at 12:07 PM
I hope your wrong about Long Clue. He is going to be one of the most difficult decisions Miami will have to make. It will be a risk either way most likely.
Posted by: Ohio Dolfan | April 04, 2012 at 12:07 PM
Long was put on IR with 6 games to go. Is that ranking. Oh right the subtle strategy. Right.
Posted by: Michael | April 04, 2012 at 12:08 PM
they will end up signing long or franchising him. hes still very good but injuries taking toll quickly. hes in decline
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 12:08 PM
I think it's a bit premature to use "decline" as the word to describe him.
I'm waiting to see how he bounces back this year
Posted by: Ohio Dolfan | April 04, 2012 at 12:10 PM
All you uninformed sissies still think Long is done or in decline. Wake up to reality. Players get injured. He made the pro bowl playing injured. Long will be a pro bowl LT for years to come.
Posted by: Not a sissy | April 04, 2012 at 12:10 PM
canada phil
bush, thomas, and clay will be pass catching fools in the west coast offense. bess is an excellent route runner and he should do well too. i agree hartline should double his production.the guy made a lot of excellent catches.
Posted by: 41phish | April 04, 2012 at 12:10 PM
Both get a clue . Poor character players cause fractures in the clubhouse and can make a team disfunctional by being suspended.
Posted by: Michael | April 04, 2012 at 12:11 PM
Philbin seems to have little doubt about Long's ability.
Posted by: Blog Fodder | April 04, 2012 at 12:12 PM
sparano is an idiot. i am not for tanking but playing long after we were out of it and he was hurt was a stupid move on his part. one of so many in the last 4 years.the jets got what they deserved.
Posted by: 41phish | April 04, 2012 at 12:13 PM
Just a Quick Question, No doubt that Marino was great but I wonder how great he would have been with out Duper and Clayton being his wide outs at the begaining of his(There) Career??, Just some thoughts to chew on..

Keeping Ireland for ANOTHER rebuild is moronic!

Keeping Ireland for ANOTHER rebuild is moronic!
Posted by: TN | April 04, 2012 at 12:14 PM
Why? He has a fine draft last year and has wisely avoided overpaying for back up QB's.
Posted by: SJ | April 04, 2012 at 12:16 PM
Can we discuss INABILITY.....or.....YOUR lack of willingness to control the trolls?????
Posted by: Kris | April 04, 2012 at 12:17 PM
michael, seems to me you want a bunch of sissy on your team. Do you think Harrison disrupts the Steelers lockerroom? No. What about Suggs from teh Ravens.Maybe prima donnas like WR's, Long is the lone tough SOB on the Dolphins but lets be honest he made the pro bowl on reputation last year because last year was def a down here.
It all goes back to that jack ass Sparano playing long in the Pre Season, that Dallas game where he injured his knee, im so glad he's on the Jets
Posted by: Clue | April 04, 2012 at 12:18 PM
Cuban,
Marino made the Mark brothers great, and in a time when defense was aloud to actually play football. Don't get me wrong, they were good receivers. But do not confuse who one of the all time greats is.
Posted by: Ohio Dolfan | April 04, 2012 at 12:18 PM
Jake Long is damaged goods. FIVE different nagging injuries and a shortened career looks like a strong possibility. Will he ever play an entire season again?
Posted by: Scotty | April 04, 2012 at 12:19 PM
cuban menace
he would NOT have been as great without the marks brothers. conversely this is why he never returned to the super bowl. no great players alongside him! it's a team game. 1 great player will never win it all in the NFL.
Posted by: 41phish | April 04, 2012 at 12:19 PM
BTW when healthy is Long that much better than Joe Thomas?
Posted by: Clue | April 04, 2012 at 12:20 PM
No I just like team like the ones built by Mike McCarthy and Tony Dungy.

We missed the boat on Matt Ryan.
Posted by: TN | April 04, 2012 at 12:21 PM
Armando,
I'm a life long Dolphins fan. The first time I was given a Sports Illustrated magazine as a kid, Marino graced the cover with the caption "Dangerous Dan". I've been hooked on the Fins ever since. I live in Canada, and every year I make the trek to South Florida to take in a game. I've suffered as so many have, but have remained loyal through it all. No longer will I waste my vacation and my hard earned money on a trip to Miami and Sun Life Stadium. I can't bear to see what a joke this franchise has become, and therefore I will no longer spend any of my money on trips, tickets, merchandise etc. Jeff Ireland is a bonafide disaster -- there is no disputing this. Until I see Stephen Ross fire that bum, and put someone in charge with some football sense, I'll be sticking it out in Canada watching Curling as a substitute. Yes, that's how desparate I've become -- curling is more attractive than the bloody dolphins.
Posted by: Mark | April 04, 2012 at 12:21 PM
no clue. long is known as 2nd best lt in game, thomas is first. we all knew that
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 12:22 PM
But Thomas plays for the Browns, not the Dolphins....
Posted by: Ohio Dolfan | April 04, 2012 at 12:23 PM
I always found it so odd, why so many Canadians are Dolphins fan? What about being Bills fans?
Posted by: Clue | April 04, 2012 at 12:23 PM
I agree Clay should excel in this new offense. Bush had a very good year after a slow start, I am not sold on Thomas, hated the pick, but I don't like using high picks on backs that get used up quickly banging in the middle, hopefully he gets better at the short yardage & we get into the endzone more on 2nd & goal from the 2... I would never ever draft a running back in the first round, unless it was in fantasy football & even that is getting more 1st round QB/WR heavy...
Posted by: Canada Phil | April 04, 2012 at 12:27 PM
hey clue we will take those fans, not many left

41PHISH, Exactly where I was going with my post,You gotta not only have a good QB but Recievers, RBs Defense and of course coaching, The guy ultimitly responsable for this is the GM., Who here thinks Ireland can achive this?????
Posted by: Cuban Menace | April 04, 2012 at 12:29 PM
..Cuban Menace...What Up!!!!! Long time Broseph!
Live blog before surgery today...Sweet!
Posted by: Darryl Dunphy | April 04, 2012 at 12:31 PM
Marino accomplished what he did without a running game and usually without a defense.
Lets not take that away from him just to prove a point about our current FO. I do agree these guys need to get young talent in here though. but the reason for that is because most QB's AREN'T Dan Marino, and they need as many pieces as possible.
Posted by: Ohio Dolfan | April 04, 2012 at 12:31 PM
Would love to talk draft and the dolphins scenarios as i am not high on tannehill and would like to know there other options during the draft
Posted by: Nathan | April 04, 2012 at 12:31 PM
Marino was not great. Good? yes, but he choked way too often to be considered great.
Posted by: Jay | April 04, 2012 at 12:31 PM
when can we start planning for the 2013 draft?? what does Fireland have to say about that?? it's terrible that we are resorting to a laughingstock in the afc east.. we used to own the Pats, Bills, Colts, and yes the Jets!!.. my how the mighty have fallen...
