The Dolphins say they intend to be more transparent with their fan base now. That's why Joe Philbin and Jeff Ireland have conducted conference calls with season ticket holders in recent weeks, including last night. That's why owner Stephen Ross has promised to get on a similar call with the same constituency after the draft, probably in May sometime.
I think that's a good idea for the most part.
I want to jump on board the transparency bandwagon, too. That's why after quite some time without one, I think a live blog chat is in order. For today. Let's say 2 p.m. in the comments section.
I'll answer questions, exchange ideas, accept criticisms and pats on the back, and mostly talk Dolphins football with you.
We can discuss the draft, with the Dolphins looking at Ryan Tannehill, Justin Blackmon, Quinton Coples, Brandon Taylor, and various other WRs, QBs, DBs, pass-rushers and offensive linemen.
We can discuss Miami's coming 2012 schedule, including the preseason schedule which is tentatively supposed to come out this week.
We can discuss free agency as constituted.
We can talk long-term possibilities for this team or the short-term realities.
As the blog says, no taboo subjects. I do not censor questions.
If you cannot be here for the live chat at 2 p.m., leave your question or comment in the section below and I'll address those before we get crackin'.
Talk to you at 2 p.m.

dusty, i'll admit I've never even been to a Dolphins game, I like to enjoy from my couch, no drunken idiots and I like to listen to the commentary as well. Maybe I should go to one.

Jay could you tell when he choked. Marino WAS great.
Posted by: Michael | April 04, 2012 at 12:34 PM
I cannot believe this. Am I even in a Dolphins blog?
Most NFL Analysts put Marino in the discussion as the greatest of all time. And people in our own fan base question whether he was even great?
Oh my gosh I'm going to lose my mind

Can we discuss INABILITY.....or.....YOUR lack of willingness to control the trolls?????

Do you really want others deciding what information should or should not be censored? There is no end to that dark road.
Posted by: 1A | April 04, 2012 at 12:37 PM
Marino would be considered the best QB of all time if he won a blooming championship, Sadly it goes to Elway, Marino sjill set was far superior to Montana but ppl like to put him before Marino not me.
1. Elway
2. Marino
3. Who cares....etc

Posted by: Darryl Dunphy | April 04, 2012 at 12:38 PM
Canadian like the passing game, although Jim Kelly was a good QB & Bills had a better team during those years, they didn't have Marino who to me was the best pure passer I have ever seen play...That's why I am a fins fan, wish I wasn't so loyal though, cause watching the 3 yards & cloud of dust offenses for the last decade has slowly been killing my passion for the fins...

marino vs God God in overtime
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 12:39 PM
In year 5 of Ireland the Fins are the eqivalent of an expansion team.....without the draft choices. And no one competent enough to get the team out of the cellar.
Posted by: Scotty | April 04, 2012 at 12:41 PM
Guys Sorry, Did'nt say Danny was'nt great, But gotta wonder how it might have turned out with out the Marks Brothers, Shula Etc. Etc., I still remeber Marino's first start(Vs Buffalo) The Fins lost but Danny had a great game, Something like 350 Yards, After which during a Interview Don(GOD) Shula said " I Beleive we found our Offense today, And It's Dan Marino"....

Posted by: Clue | April 04, 2012 at 12:43 PM
I don't know if Marino was the best QB of all time, but he was the best pure passer of all-time. You win with a team and you better have a great defense or a defense that is playing great come playoff time or you don't have a chance to win a superbowl...

Posted by: Ohio Dolfan | April 04, 2012 at 12:45 PM
Anybody remember that Bills' team that won the AFC 4 years in a row?
I would have loved to have seen Marino with the supporting cast that Kelly had.
They had very good receivers, Thurman Thomas, and a nasty defense.
Posted by: Blog Fodder | April 04, 2012 at 12:47 PM
Ive had one wisdom teeth pulled and wont go back for the other one unless it starts hurting. F THAT.
Posted by: Clue | April 04, 2012 at 12:48 PM
Armando,
Bill Polian said Tannehill is so good teams will be trading up to get him, maybe even with Minnesota.
I think Polian was unjustly the Colt's scapegoat last year, just look at all the injuries they had. Polian knows his quarterbacks, he never had any doubts selectng Peyton over Ryan Leaf, as many others did. He surrounded Peyton with weapons and drafted quality OGs and OTs to protect him almost every year.
Dolphins should have offered the GM position to Polian. Also, Dolphins should move in the draft for Tannehill. If he's okay with Polian, its aright by me.
Posted by: Scout Master | April 04, 2012 at 12:49 PM
Would you rather take Tanehill now or use the entire 2012 draft to improve every other weak spot as best as you can, so next season we can focus on trading picks to get for sure the best QB prospect Philbin is able to find???
What would be your personal mock draft for Miami Dolphins up to 4th-5th round?
Posted by: Hydrashock | April 04, 2012 at 12:51 PM
Has Sherman given an opinion, that can be published, regarding Ryan Tannehill?
How much cap space have we got? and is it enough to sign a receiver the caliber of Blackmon?
Who do the Phins management have their eye on, for that one indispinsable hard rushing DE of OLB?
Posted by: Captcrunch | April 04, 2012 at 12:52 PM
Marino won ONE road playoff game in 18 years. He just dissapeared when his team needed him the most. He wasnt a "money" QB like the Bradys, Mannings, Bradshaws, or Montana's of the world. He couldnt win the big one. Actually, he was probably the biggest choker in modern day sports.
Posted by: Jay | April 04, 2012 at 12:53 PM
All the QBs you people scream and yell about we didn't take and that you wanted that we passed on and now you don't want to mess with the QB position. Is this the twilight zone??
Posted by: thavafin | April 04, 2012 at 12:55 PM
DD,Good luck And BTW, Make sure you have some good Pain killers thenext 2 days afterwards, Your gonna need em, An Iam not talking about Ibreprofin, Your gonna need something from a small town in Tenn., A small town called Lynchburg... Good luck ..
Posted by: Cuban Menace | April 04, 2012 at 12:55 PM
jay u sob, get off marinos nuts. watch ur back fool. now your messing with the icon
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 12:56 PM
I'd trade up for Trent Richardson. Once in a decade type of RB. They missed on Ronnie Brown for the most part and he'd be a perfect compliment to Bush this year and allows us to let Bush walk after the season. Or Kuechly at 8.
Posted by: B33RCA53 | April 04, 2012 at 12:56 PM
Richardson would vastly improve the offense. More so than any other player in the draft. Unless Tannehill or Weeden prove to be stars which will take time.

This is true like it or not. We may have ended up with a better team without him. Instead they just expected Marino would do it all on his own.

Jay your back at this nonsense. again?
Question, where does Barry Sanders fall as best RB of all time?
No SB's Just sayin?
Posted by: Poizen | April 04, 2012 at 01:00 PM
If we didnt select D Thomas last season, I would love the Richardson Pick, dude a protypical NFL RB, strong low and stocky, fast as well
Posted by: Clue | April 04, 2012 at 01:00 PM
yeah jay i remember watching those games wondering why the dolphins were only playing one guy on offense and 0 guys on defense while the other teams played with the usual 11 players...read this slow buddy...Brady, Manning, Bradshaw, and Montana had great teams. how bout mark rypian and doug williams? better then dan?
Posted by: 41phish | April 04, 2012 at 01:00 PM
ARMANDO,
COULD THE FINS HAVE GONE 11-5 IF WAKE HAD HELP ON THE OTHER SIDE LAST YEAR?
Five game losses of 3 point or less
16-17 Browns
15-18 Broncos
17-20 Giants
19-20 Cowboys
24-27 Patriots
A pro bowl caliber pass rusher on the other side should have been good enough to make a difference in these five games.
DON'T YOU BELIEVE THAT USING THE #8 PICK FOR A PASS RUSHER MAKES THE MOST SENSE?
Posted by: Defense Wins! | April 04, 2012 at 01:00 PM
Would of could of, we lost though games cause Matt Moore sucks against elite competition.
Posted by: Clue | April 04, 2012 at 01:02 PM
LOL @ Ohio....
Cuban...I'll be doing the endzone celebration to the Pharmacy after the butcher hands me my perscription..
Alright Football talk...Armando. Can you see the team doubling down on the reciever position in this draft? This would include tight end. I would bet the farm one of the 2 3rd round picks will be a pass catcher. Also, what are your feelings about Philbins statement yesterday where he said that(reguarding Reggie Bush)
"We aren't just going to hand him the ball"..I thought that was a very good sign that this coach has a better offensive plan then the past regime...BTW..how have you been??

lol
Posted by: 2 watt | April 04, 2012 at 01:04 PM
Defense and Clue make good points, Also Brandon Marshall droppping TD's and a 4th and 10 14 yard pass through his hands vs the Browns.
Posted by: Poizen | April 04, 2012 at 01:05 PM
Marino had 36 4th quarter comeback drives, and 51 game winning drives. That's not choking.
Posted by: Michael | April 04, 2012 at 01:06 PM
2 watt club section it is. I just dont want to go to a home game where half the doggone crowd is cheering for the other team. Thats brutal
Posted by: Clue | April 04, 2012 at 01:07 PM
defense wins
excellent point. maybe they take coples at 8.the negative seems to be he takes plays off,but now that rooks dont get the big money up front he knows he is playing for his 2nd contract. plus he will be surrounded by professionals that will push him to excel.
Posted by: 41phish | April 04, 2012 at 01:07 PM
Next to the book 1001 Excuses for Barry Sanders.
Posted by: Poizen | April 04, 2012 at 01:07 PM
Defense, Great post, 11 points from 5 more ties(17) more points the fins win em and are 11 and 5, Maybe it had to do with coaching, I can say all 5 were lose's because of the fist pumper.., Good riddence to him, Also I find it quite funny that the jets now have 2 QBs that cant throw and a OC that cant coach, I Think Miami has a better rtecord then the Jets this year only cause of what I just posted....
Posted by: Cuban Menace | April 04, 2012 at 01:07 PM
Jay = Jets Fan

def good idea to keep building defense. ton of qbs in draft next year and we should draft high again. dont reach on tannehill.
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 01:10 PM
no excuse jay just fact.
what about stabler, plunkett, theisman, young, mcmahon, and that all time favorite whipping boy dilfer? any of these guys better then dan marino.....all i hear is cricketts jay.
Posted by: 41phish | April 04, 2012 at 01:10 PM
I'm not sure how many of these were road games but Marino was 8 and 10 in playoff games. I'm not sure if the record is bad or good.
Posted by: Michael | April 04, 2012 at 01:11 PM
Many of you will hate this mock. It doesnt include a qb. But I dont think qb is as urgent as many think. I believe Matt Moore can be "adequate enough" to forego getting a qb at least one more season.
Anyway here's my mock:
1. David Decastro -OG Stanford
2. Bobby Massie -RT Ole Miss
3. Tommy Streeter -WR UM
3. Bruce Irvin -OLB W. VA (Pass rush specialist}
4. Ladarius Green -TE Louisiana-Lafayette
6'6 237lbs 4'5 forty. Creates mismatches and is a huge target. Could be in the "Jermichael Finley mold"
5. Robert Turbin -RB Utah ST
5'10 22lbs, 4.4 forty, (6.1ypc 1,517yds 19tds last season}. Good backup depth, possible red zone force.
The rest of the draft is yours. Thats my first 5 rounds.
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | April 04, 2012 at 01:12 PM
cuban menace
i remember at least 2 occasions last year were we got the ball back at the end of the 2nd quarter with over a minute on the clock and timeouts on the board and we f#ckin ran the fullback dive and went to the locker room. i'm surprised his own defense didn't string him up.what the f were the jets thinking...oh right the jets dont think
Posted by: 41phish | April 04, 2012 at 01:13 PM
Careful mocking the Jets.........jay might get upset
Posted by: Ohio Dolfan | April 04, 2012 at 01:14 PM
Everyone has their own opinion on QB's. When you dont achieve THE GOAL of the game and you're 1-10 in road playoff games you're NOT GREAT. IMO.
Posted by: Jay | April 04, 2012 at 01:14 PM
Michael, The only way Jay has a point is if we lost 14-7 or 17-10.
some of the games were high scoring and close, and we did not have a shut down D, the other team normally had the ball last.
The only thing bad if anything, that Marino did, was move the ball way to fast in the playoffs. Our D gassed almost every game from the speed of the game and blowing to much energy before the game started.
Posted by: Poizen | April 04, 2012 at 01:15 PM
YG are you nuts? a OG as the first pick?? Thats crazy
