The Dolphins say they intend to be more transparent with their fan base now. That's why Joe Philbin and Jeff Ireland have conducted conference calls with season ticket holders in recent weeks, including last night. That's why owner Stephen Ross has promised to get on a similar call with the same constituency after the draft, probably in May sometime.
I think that's a good idea for the most part.
I want to jump on board the transparency bandwagon, too. That's why after quite some time without one, I think a live blog chat is in order. For today. Let's say 2 p.m. in the comments section.
I'll answer questions, exchange ideas, accept criticisms and pats on the back, and mostly talk Dolphins football with you.
We can discuss the draft, with the Dolphins looking at Ryan Tannehill, Justin Blackmon, Quinton Coples, Brandon Taylor, and various other WRs, QBs, DBs, pass-rushers and offensive linemen.
We can discuss Miami's coming 2012 schedule, including the preseason schedule which is tentatively supposed to come out this week.
We can discuss free agency as constituted.
We can talk long-term possibilities for this team or the short-term realities.
As the blog says, no taboo subjects. I do not censor questions.
If you cannot be here for the live chat at 2 p.m., leave your question or comment in the section below and I'll address those before we get crackin'.
Talk to you at 2 p.m.

Yeah how many of the games did the defense hold the other team under 20 pts... Manning & the giants had to score 21 pts. to win the last Superbowl... since 1980 so in the last 30+ years only 5 times did the defense of the winning team allow more than 23 pts. so all the winning team had to do was score 3 td's & a field goal to win the superbowl... only once in 30 years did a team need to score 30pts. to win a superbowl... and 22 of the last 30 superbowls the winning team only needed 20 pts. or less to win... DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE.. can we please get some Pass rushers & corners, Defense wins championships, QB's get cheerleaders...

If a QB is moving the ball TOO fast into the endzone and we lose........it is not the QB's fault
Posted by: Ohio Dolfan | April 04, 2012 at 01:16 PM
Take Floyd at 8.
Posted by: RPG | April 04, 2012 at 01:17 PM
Our team reeks of mediocre. Take Floyd at 8. For once draft a Gdammn play maker. Geez.
Posted by: RPG | April 04, 2012 at 01:18 PM
YG.
No chance we take OG in the first, followed by RT in the 2nd.
Ireland would be burned at the stake. Should be able to find some OL in the middle to late rounds, where the top teams find them. Top teams don't pay that unit so much and then look for acorns at other positions.
Posted by: greth | April 04, 2012 at 01:18 PM
A team of nobodies play like a bunch of nobodies.
Posted by: RPG | April 04, 2012 at 01:18 PM
My mock fixes the oline, paving the way for drafting a qb 2013. Streeter's a 3rd rd steal, Bruce Irvin's a pass rush specialist. He gets after the qb but is suspect against the run. I think he can be great as a pass rush specialist opposite Wake on passing downs.
Ladarius Green could be Jermichael Finley like. Nice speed and huge target. Robert Turin offers speed and size to the rb position.
We may not draft the qb this year, but, my mock totally solidifies this unit in preparation of bringing a great young qb in 2013.
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | April 04, 2012 at 01:18 PM
Poizen, The defense in the latter years did suck, But I do remember the "KILLER Bs" of the late 80s, Those teams should have won a couple championships IMHO.
Posted by: Cuban Menace | April 04, 2012 at 01:19 PM
YG.
You gave countless arguments against taking an OT at 8. Now you have flopped flipped your brain out. Once again.
Posted by: LOL | April 04, 2012 at 01:20 PM
YG, the same Acourn thinking you have is why the Dolphins are in there predictiment now. Draft studs with your early picks then find the other fat bastards later on
Posted by: YG the Jester | April 04, 2012 at 01:21 PM
No mock here.
My opinion, we will draft QB, WR, TE, LB, WR, OT, S
Posted by: greth | April 04, 2012 at 01:21 PM
Guys,
Im not saying my mock is the way the draft goes down. But remember Philbin said after watching film our oline has to get better before our qb position improves. So dont be surprised if it does go down like this.
There will be boes draft day if it goes down like this but it does solidify and stabilizes our entire team. Not popular but neccessary. Like a root canal. LOL
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | April 04, 2012 at 01:22 PM
Melvin Ingram is the can't miss player I've been hearing most about.

You know, after think about it I'm not trusting Jay's stats on playoff wins. I KNOW Marino's over all PO record was 8 and 10. If Jay is right his home record was 7 and 0. That's pretty good.
Posted by: Michael | April 04, 2012 at 01:23 PM
Take Tannehill at 8. If he comes off before that trade down and load up on picks.
Posted by: thavafin | April 04, 2012 at 01:25 PM
1st rd Luke Kuechly MLB Boston College
2nd rd Kevin Zeitler RG Wisconsin
3rd rd Mohamed Sanu WR Rutgers
3rd rd Cyrus Gray RB Texas A&M
4th rd Derek Wolfe DT Cincinnati
5th rd Brett Roy DE Nevada
6th rd Miles Burris OLB San Diego St
6th rd Ron Brooks DB LSU
7th rd Tony Dye SS UCLA
Posted by: B33RCA53 | April 04, 2012 at 01:25 PM
We havent upgraded a single need. What is that??? Still no right tackle...no reciever...no safety...no pass rusher...no linebacker...these can not all be filled in the draft. Come on guys!!! Havent seen a playoff game in ages.
Posted by: Wicky Rilliams | April 04, 2012 at 01:26 PM
I would be fine with DeCastro at #8, he's a cant miss instant impact force on an already young and budding oline(Pouncey, Long). Adding Castro(og) and Bobby Massie(RT) makes it a legit force for years to come.
You guys have to remember the oline of the early 70's was the true foundation of our nfl succes. Like I said, root canals arent popular, but most times highly neccessary. LOL
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | April 04, 2012 at 01:26 PM
Poizen, I didnt watch Barry Sanders that closely. And the QB USUALLY has more control over a game then a RB. But I would say Jim Brown and Walter Peyton were better then Sanders.

Do you guys think Tommy Streeter would be a 3rd rd steal at wr? I do, he isnt a diva, and I think he could be a very nice fit in the wco.

IF I GAVE YOU $1 MILLION ON THE CONDITION THAT YOU HAVE TO BET IT ON WHETHER OR NOT RYAN TANNEHILL WILL BE A MIAMI DOLPHIN NEXT YEAR, WHAT WOULD YOU BET?

If the fins don't take a QB in the 1st, then I'd like a QB killa.
Ingram or Coples.

I don't know muh about Streeter but I know there is no way the phins take Blackmon or any other reciever in the 1st. You have the right idea though, WR will come in the later rounds as quality system guys.

Browns will take Blackmon or Richardson. they are Elite players and that is who you take in the top 5.
I don't see anybody trading up to 7 for Tannehill.
so it looks good for now....

Charles Haley, one of the best pass rushers in nfl history, was a pass rush specialist. I know you guys dont know much about Bruce Irvin but he fits the same mold.
We really have to draft a guy as a full time olb, just need someone who can get after the passer on known passing downs. Bruce Irvin is that type of guy and we can get him 3rd down. If he turns out to be the next Charles Haley. We've truly found a steal!
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | April 04, 2012 at 01:35 PM
Kevin Zeitler at #42 the guy is a freak of nature

Posted by: thavafin | April 04, 2012 at 01:39 PM
This is a pro bowl calibre oline for years to come:
1. Jake Long -LT
2. Mike Pouncey -C
3. David DeCastro -RG
4. Bobby Massie -RT
All would be left is to replace Incognito over the next couple seasons. Guys the oline would be set for years. No more oline woes.

Fixing the oline also make playing the qb position a whole lot easier in Miami. You're actually improving the qb position by fixing the oline now(DeCastro/Massie).

It wont much matter who we get at qb if we continue to run a retirement villa for aging and has been olinemen.
These type of olinemen are coming on the cheap for a reason. Remember that.
A franchise qb with a suspect oline wont achieve very much niether. Sometimes you have to do the unpopular before you can begin to enjoy the fruits of the popular. A job welldone is always a job done right!

The 2 coordinators were solid hires.
Posted by: Michael | April 04, 2012 at 01:47 PM
Armando,
Here's my mock I posted earlier. Totally fixes the oline, but I know its unpopular:
Many of you will hate this mock. It doesnt include a qb. But I dont think qb is as urgent as many think. I believe Matt Moore can be "adequate enough" to forego getting a qb at least one more season.
Anyway here's my mock:
1. David Decastro -OG Stanford
2. Bobby Massie -RT Ole Miss
3. Tommy Streeter -WR UM
3. Bruce Irvin -OLB W. VA (Pass rush specialist}
4. Ladarius Green -TE Louisiana-Lafayette
6'6 237lbs 4'5 forty. Creates mismatches and is a huge target. Could be in the "Jermichael Finley mold"
5. Robert Turbin -RB Utah ST
5'10 22lbs, 4.4 forty, (6.1ypc 1,517yds 19tds last season}. Good backup depth, possible red zone force.
The rest of the draft is yours. Thats my first 5 rounds.
What do you think?
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | April 04, 2012 at 01:48 PM
Cuban, Agreed on the Killer B's, very nice D!
As far as this draft, I have said it before. To debate it at this point is just for the sake of debate.
No one has an inside scoop on what truly Sherman and Philbin have in mind for this offense, besides WC. We do not know the prototype player they want, so this draft unfortunatly is a watch and learn for me. I have no clue who they are going to draft.
And whoever they DO draft, I can not judge until I see their performance on the field. so even after the draft you will not find me b'n and moanin about who we got. Besides Mcshay and Kipers ruling, which does not mean much of anything.
Posted by: Poizen | April 04, 2012 at 01:48 PM
I read that Cleveland intends to trade away their #4 spot. I believe you have expressed your feelings about this, but what is your gut feeling Miami will do, and if it is not to try and move up, why?
