The Dolphins say they intend to be more transparent with their fan base now. That's why Joe Philbin and Jeff Ireland have conducted conference calls with season ticket holders in recent weeks, including last night. That's why owner Stephen Ross has promised to get on a similar call with the same constituency after the draft, probably in May sometime.
I think that's a good idea for the most part.
I want to jump on board the transparency bandwagon, too. That's why after quite some time without one, I think a live blog chat is in order. For today. Let's say 2 p.m. in the comments section.
I'll answer questions, exchange ideas, accept criticisms and pats on the back, and mostly talk Dolphins football with you.
We can discuss the draft, with the Dolphins looking at Ryan Tannehill, Justin Blackmon, Quinton Coples, Brandon Taylor, and various other WRs, QBs, DBs, pass-rushers and offensive linemen.
We can discuss Miami's coming 2012 schedule, including the preseason schedule which is tentatively supposed to come out this week.
We can discuss free agency as constituted.
We can talk long-term possibilities for this team or the short-term realities.
As the blog says, no taboo subjects. I do not censor questions.
If you cannot be here for the live chat at 2 p.m., leave your question or comment in the section below and I'll address those before we get crackin'.
Talk to you at 2 p.m.

Armando, why is our cap space so bad and we have a 6 and 10 team with no franchcise QB. Does this make any sense?

mando,
do you think walmart could build on its brand through a sponsorship with the dolphins? ireland has done a fantastic job at building the dolphins brand into something that solidly represents "safe" and "value".

I read today the Dolphins are considering significant changes to theeir uniforms in 2013. God, I hope that is true.
While I share the nostalgia for the past, it is time to dump that silly, anthropomorphic cartoon porpoise for a more stylized design. The team used to be able to justify it by the tremendous amount of sales their apparel generated but that is no longer the case at all. It's time for a big change. We can always see the "old" one again during the throwback weeks the NFL is so enamored with.

What happened to the draft insights of your friend Mr. Cordero? Give us some of your sleepers (acorns if you will) in this draft.

Do see any quality players being cut after the draft that could translate into Dolphin Free agent targets.
Posted by: Michael | April 04, 2012 at 02:38 PM
I don;t think Philbin will be drafting based on the Packers needs.
Posted by: tom pompano | April 04, 2012 at 02:31 PM
Philbin doesnt do the draft. Duuuhhh
Posted by: MDR | April 04, 2012 at 02:39 PM
I think I like that question...
Reggie Bush... He is only under contract for this year correct?
Any chance we are looking to extend that deal, or do you think Philbin and sherman want to see what he has to offer this year first? It is risky if he turns out to be real good because it will cost more $$...
Mando, are you hosting a draft party at your pad with the pool and the nice view? :) Oh, and am I invited? LOL I will fly from MA if so! My wife loves the pool!
Posted by: Poizen | April 04, 2012 at 02:39 PM
Given the state of the franchise (both perception and reality), what positions do you feel will be addressed in the draft?
It seems a given that a QB is coming in the first round and at least one WR by the end of round 3.
Posted by: greth | April 04, 2012 at 02:39 PM
Here's my mock draft
1st didn't see that one coming
2nd WTF

29 isn't a bad score.
Posted by: Michael | April 04, 2012 at 02:39 PM
Mando, What do you think we are going to do with the Safeties, Stay with the crew on board or FA or Draft another??
Posted by: miamiman99 | April 04, 2012 at 02:39 PM
Mando,
Which teams do you honestly think are looking at Tannehill in the first round?
If we don't get him then the Titans will at 20. I can only think to three teams willing to pull the trigger on Tannehill in the first round. I bet all 32 would pull the trigger for RGIII in the first round.
Tannehill falls to 20 if Miami or Cleveland doesn't snag him. Even then, I'm not sure the Titans will sign him.
Posted by: JackSparrow | April 04, 2012 at 02:40 PM
Michael, I cannot predict veteran cuts but let me tell you where to expect an influx of players: The Green Bay Packers.
Any player GB cuts this year will be on the Dolphins radar. I guess that's better than Cowboys cuts because GB is actually a very good team.

I cannot see the Titans taking Tannehill. They drafted Jake locker pretty high last year.
Posted by: Paul Winnipeg | April 04, 2012 at 02:41 PM
ARMANDO....
Quinton Coples and Sanu first two picks then Cousins...
Thoughts?
Posted by: Dooz | April 04, 2012 at 02:41 PM
MANDO,
roberto wallace to play defensive back?
a RYAN MALLET trade will give us a gunslinger and retain our first 2 picks. good idea? would ross consider this move?

29 isn't a bad score.
Posted by: Michael | April 04, 2012 at 02:39 PM
That's because he didn't score a 29.
16 for Marino, which is exactly what Vince Young scored and 30 for Ricky Williams.

paul i have to admnit that was hilarious
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 02:42 PM
titans would never draft tannehill, they have a stud in locker.
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 02:43 PM
Why do you think the titans who spent their pick on Locker last year?? just asking,, you would think KC or clevaland at 22??
Posted by: miamiman99 | April 04, 2012 at 02:43 PM
in marinos defense he had just got done snorting cocaine
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 02:43 PM
Skook, Chris Cordero stopped attending the Senior Bowl and has directed his efforts away from scouting. Yes, I'm working to replace him. He was excellent.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | April 04, 2012 at 02:44 PM
Armando,
Who would you pick at #8?
Ingram?
Posted by: Defense Wins! | April 04, 2012 at 02:44 PM
Dusty
thanks. I also thought it was pretty honest. When you get right down to it, none of us really know what any of the teams will do. Guess that's why the draft is so much fun to talk about.

Mando,
What's the latest on jake Scott?
Posted by: mikeoliver1313 | April 04, 2012 at 02:46 PM
The real question is would NE consider that trade. If they do that would mean they consider Mallett's talents not robust. You don't trade a good young QB unless they don't think highly of him.

Posted by: thavafin | April 04, 2012 at 02:47 PM
As you may know, Clue, I raised the cap problems with no stars issue several times in print the past month.
My view of the problem is the Dolphins overpaid for players that are not great -- like Karlos Dansby and Brandon Marshall. Overpaid for OL that didn't perform up to their salaries -- Vernon Carey.
And now have a HUGE cap number on their one draftee who is being paid great and also plays great -- Jake Long.
All those issues should be addressed by the end of this season.

Has Philbin been directed to avoid the fist pump after FGs?
Posted by: skook fin | April 04, 2012 at 02:48 PM
Mando, if you believe that Kansas won´t draft Tannenhill (you want him as your future QB), and he is available at #8, you take the chance of trading down for an extra 2nd round or draft him al N°8?
Thanks
Posted by: Eugenio desde Argentina | April 04, 2012 at 02:48 PM
@Paul
So either Cleveland drafts him or we do. If we don't he falls to the second round. Why can't we make a play in the second round instead of burning that #8 on him?
I can see us getting two first round picks this year and giving up one first round next year to get Tannehill. Maybe some sloppy seconds we might have to give up. I will take the guy but not at #8.
We can trade with pretty much any team between 9 and 32 to get Tannehill.

As for the Wunderlic - by the way I use speech recognition software so forgive some of the spelling - all tests for intelligence are full of bias. They presuppose certain life experiences etc.
Doing well on intelligence tests in my opinion mostly means your experiences are in keeping with the experiences of those who designed the test.
Clearly someone who does poorly on Wunderlic may really have the ability to make quick and correct decisions - like Marino.
Posted by: Paul Winnipeg | April 04, 2012 at 02:49 PM
kc really the only other team dumb enough to draft tennehill in first rd
Posted by: dusty bottoms | April 04, 2012 at 02:49 PM
Marino is a great guy (and obviously an extraordinary player) but it's not inaccurate to say he's not the sharpest tool in the shed.
Anyone who knows anything about his personal affairs recognizes his wife Claire as the real brains behind "Team Marino" even if his athletic skills obviously provided the means to get to where they are.
She is a REMARKABLE woman, though, and extremely bright. I think even Dan would acknowledge she's the one doing the intellectual heavy lifting.
And as that other guy said, Wonderlic's may be important but they aren;t the only factor. Obviously wasn;t the case with Marino despite his substandard results.
Posted by: tom pompano | April 04, 2012 at 02:49 PM
Indiana, are you asking if the Dolphins are going to trade out of the first round?
I don't think that will happen. I believe they will draft in the first round.

QB
WR for sure and probably two of those.
RG or RT
pass rusher.

I share your concern that we might overreach for Tannehill. I don't agree that we would be able to get him in the second round. So to me the question is to Tannehill or not to Tannehill.
Posted by: Paul Winnipeg | April 04, 2012 at 02:51 PM
marino is very smart now, but u guys forget that the reason he fell so low in first rd was because of all the cocaine he was doing

Paul Winnipeg's mock draft is the ONLY one that makes any sense. Projecting players 200 guys into the draft is just beyond ridiculous.
Posted by: At Least Someone Gets It | April 04, 2012 at 02:52 PM
I think that just about any team that expressed interest in Manning might also consider drafting Tannehill, and that list includes the chiefs, cards, and eagles selecting at 11, 13, and 15, respectively.
In fact, I don't think the fins can safely trade down any further than 9th.
Seriously.
On the other hand, if the fins are looking at 4 different QBs in the draft, as Texas_Dolphin suggested, then we definitely should not be burning the 8th overall pick on Tannehill or any other QB.
Posted by: Blog Fodder | April 04, 2012 at 02:52 PM

Hey Armando,
Will they utilize Chalrles Clay more this year? It seemed like Sparano couldn't figure out where to put him?
Posted by: natethetank | April 04, 2012 at 02:56 PM
Eugenio, if Mike Sherman tells me that he can make Ryan Tannehill a very good NFL starter by 2013, I take him at No. 8.
If Sherman tells me Tannehill is only a 50-50 guy and has major flaws, I pass.
It's an important questions because, you must remember, Sherman thought little enough of Tannehill as to make him a WR when he lost a QB competition. And Sherman has not shared publicly what he really thinks of Tannehill.
Saludos.

thanks for the support on my draft. I was thinking of sending it to the NFL network. I think it would be good fun to watch Mayock's head explode as he dissects my fifth-round pick.

Thank you Mando, exactly what I have been saying about Tanny. It is really a useless topic to debate.
And... how about that draft party! :)
Posted by: Poizen | April 04, 2012 at 02:57 PM
I'm hoping that the Browns pick Tannehill.
It will cause a top seven player to drop to the Fins.
It could be Richardson because the Bucs will most likely take Clairborne. He hasn't had a fumble since he was a freshman.
Between 500 to 600 carries without a fumble.
Posted by: Defense Wins! | April 04, 2012 at 02:58 PM
Miami hasn't even started mini camp or ota and people are already saying this is a lost season. You people are absolutely pathetic. Have some pride and at least try to pretend that you care about this team.
Posted by: True Fan | April 04, 2012 at 02:58 PM
If Locker was so good then why sign Hasselbeck? He was the second best QB in the draft, supposedly, behind Cam.
But Matt got the starting nod. Drafting that high means starting right away. If Tannehill is not starting right away then it was overreach. Why overreach for a guy that can't start right away?
