Source: Ross is not pushing for anyone

Last week, Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland told the media he has pretty much made up his mind which player he wants to take in the first round of Thursday's NFL draft.

Well, if you believe this report in profootballtalk.com citing a league source, Ireland had better hope he picked Ryan Tannehill because otherwise he's going to be under a lot of pressure in the coming days. The report says "the man pushing hardest for Tannehill is owner Stephen Ross."

I have just had an e-mail exhcange with a very, very, very highly placed source within the Dolphins organization. In very colorful language the source tells me the profootballtalk.com report is not true.

I suppose it is now up to you to figure out what to believe.

The pft report suggests the reason Ross wants Tannehill is because "Ross needs to find a way for his team to stand out as it otherwise fades into the South Florida sports landscape.  Tannehill will make a difference in 2012.  If he fails, they’ll be no worse off in 2013 and beyond than they otherwise would have been."

Let me say this:

I can totally see Ross giving his opinion on players. He has done it in the past. My source, meanwhile, tells me Ross has not had any conversation with Jeff Ireland telling him which player to pick and that conversation will not happen, either.

Secondly, it's simply wrong to suggest the Dolphins drafting Tannehill will improve ticket sales in 2012. It will definitely not do so during the current period. It probably won't do so in training camp, either because everyone, including fans, know Tannehill is probably not going to start for Miami in 2012 even if he gets drafted -- at least not coming out of the gate. The kid is simply too raw to beat out veterans Matt Moore or David Garrard. So there's that.

Finally, pft says there's no guarantee that if Ross is pressing for Tannehill he'll get his way. Really? If Ross says draft Armando Salguero in the first round, Ireland will do that and try to make the case I have an under-rated arm. Trust me, whatever the owner wants, he gets.

In this instance, however, my source tells me the owner isn't telling the football people what he wants.

By the way, I may have not used enough verys earlier. Just saying.

I pray this report about us taking Tannehill is either;

A) Not true.
or
B) True BUT some team that is dumber than we are (which is pretty hard to imagine) leapfrogs us & takes us before we do.

Carl Peterson says take the QB, Carl knows scouting..

BTW--If this is true that Ross REALLY wants us to draft Tannehill than this team has a serious problem when it comes to keeping things in-house. Therefore this better be a bluff to force some team like Seattle or Cleveland to trade up to 7.

If not & this is true it will become even harder to have confidence in Ross & anyone associated with building a team.

"Carl Peterson says take the QB, Carl knows scouting.."

He does??? I don't recall Peterson drafting a QB that made a difference in KC. Their two best QB's were Rich Gannon & Joe Montana at the end of his career.

Mando,

I just hope this is one of your 'inside scoops' like us definitely trading for Orton.

Well Kris, lemme explain it to you. Reporters have different sources. And then sources differ in what they are trying to do (maybe reveal some of the "Truth", maybe try to throw a reporter off the "scent" of a story, maybe even totally lie). On it's face, a story is exactly what it is, (usually) one person's account of something, hopefully using sources close to the situation. Sometimes those sources are named, where others can go for confirmation. Sometimes those sources are unnamed (for any number of reasons).

In this day and age, when people want to get to the "Truth", they try and find multiple sources for a story. That's one way to corroborate a story. If 20 papers are all reporting the same thing (like there was an accident on the Beltway today) then most intelligent people accept that as fact (or true).

This is all Journalism 101.

I'm still wondering what you're getting at with your anti-reporter stance. You make is seem as if EVERY story is fake or b.s. That's my perception. Which then leads me to ask, "so how do you get YOUR information?" And when I read your posts, it seems what you believe most is the idiotic ramblings of a racist poster on here about something as ridiculous as "chemtrails."

Which again, leads people to make assumptions. I wasn't born yesterday, I kind of know the "type." Someone who doesn't believe mainstream media reports, but is more likely to believe conspiracy theories, is someone I personally don't put much stock in what they regurgitate.

So, there it is. You don't trust what I think because I may have heard it from a reporter, may even have heard it in multiple places (which is what I do to source my own information). That's fine. But there's another side to that coin. I don't trust what you think because you must hear it from outer space or have some special short wave radio where if you're in exactly the right place, at 4:20 daily, you get all the mysteries of the world revealed.

Really, I don't know WHERE you get your info. You've never said. Which to me is the bigger problem. I'm happy to point to where I find my "reports." And you can accept/reject them as you like.

See, the last thing I'll say, is I don't "stand by" these reports 100% of the time. Sometimes, I bring them up because they differ from what Mando's saying. Sometimes I do it because either Mando doesn't update his topic, or the topic he's blogged about doesn't interest me. Sometimes it's because it's interesting and I like to consider interesting things, and hear what others say about them. I saw "Moneyball" in the theaters. I'm not a baseball fan, but was interested in the GM, Billy Beane. I liked that he was thinking outside the box. I brought that up here, and a number of posters completely hated the guy (DD was one). They gave me some insight why they didn't like him. That was something I didn't know, so it was helpful to me understanding more about a topic I knew little about.

It's funny to me that you come to a REPORTER'S blog to post, when you obviously have a negative feeling on ALL reporters. So, what gives? Since this is all you seem to care about in my posting, let's explore your real problem here, and who knows, maybe you can help me see the light. So, go ahead, I'm all ears, tell me how you obtain information, analyze that information and differentiate between accurate (true) information and false information?

DC.........I GREE WITH YOU ON OBTAIN INFORMATION BUT NOT ANALYZING ,MY FOOT .......

WHAT ANALYZE ? IT'S ALL CRAP MIDDLE SCHOOL STUFF .......NO ONE ANALYZE ANY THING B/C IT ALL BECOMING GOSSIP AND GUESS WORK .......

GOOD POST @ 9;34 AM .......JUST DISAGREE .

DC...and you wonder why some troll calls you DC DULFAN.....geesh.....that could qualify for the most BORING post ever....

KRIS IS FIGHTING WITH 2 POSTERS SO FAR TODAY ...........

I LIKE IT ...

Same old people, Same old blog, Same old Armando, This life is getting repetitive.

Come on......

There is no way that Ross has not communicated his opinion on whom he wants. He is way to hands on with the personnel than he should be and i sincerely believe he is pushing for Tannehill. Ross needs to show the public that he has (but most likely he doesn't) his franchise quarterback.

Ireland on the other hand, much rather have a defensive lineman or linebacker as making an instant first year impact. Ireland being on a short leash now, cannot wait till 2013...he needs to show improvement this year.

I say if its Tannehill, then its Ross pick, if its defense then Ireland has his way

Aloco.....

3 fights if I you stealing my style......lol....

:-)

If i include you stealing my style.....

:-(

KRIS..I NEVER FIGHT WITH YOU ....

BUT THE TRUTH BE TOLD....... YOU STOLE MY WRITING STYLE AND IF YOU GO BACK MORE THAN A YEAR IN ARMANDO'S BLOG ,YOU WILL SEE IT'S TRUE......YOU JUST STARTED THAT STYLE OF WRITING FEW MONTHS AGO ........

KRIS...........ALL THESE REPORTERS JUST GOSSIPING WHILE THEY R EATING DOMINO'S PIZZA FOR FREE...........

LET'S TAKE THE WORD (( ANALYZE )) OUT ........

To all the Coples fans, Peter King reported this morning that he's heard Coples go anywhere from top 8 to SECOND round. Nope, no risk there at all! Remember that next time you're spending ten consecutive days slamming Tannehill. There's risk everywhere folks....

Also, Armando just reported on Twitter, via a Jeff Darlington report, that the Dolphins will release Merling before the draft. Tells me we've got some DL help coming via the draft.

GRAIG.......MERLING IS OLD NEWS..........ANY NEWS ON RELEASING (( BERGER )) ?

CRAIG M

At number 8 a game changer and a starter could be had! Tannehill is neither one!

Aloco.....

your funny man....

and thats all i'm gonna admit too....

IN THE LAST FEW YEARS THE BLOGGERS ON THIS BLOG PROVED ONE THING WHEN IT COMES TO DRAFT CHOICES..........''''''''''';;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

THEY R (( IDIOTS ))................ THAT'S WHY WE R THE PROUD TENANT IN THE FAMOUS CELLER ...

Ohio,

You're right about Florio....complete idiot! I've taken him to task for his criticism of the Dolphins too. No idea if my comments ever saw the light of day but you're right, he's got axe to grind for the Dolphins.

How's the blog going? I haven't been able to get over for a few days. any hot topics for this week? Any chance you'll be live for the draft?

KRIS....MESSAGE RECEIVED ........PEACE......

I have to admit, I agree with people's thoughts on LBer Kuechly but I have NO idea why people are getting excited about this guy as our pick. I think he's going to be a really good pro but is this REALLY our biggest need? How does this get pressure on the QB, protect the QB or get us into the endzone? Like I said, I have nothing against the pick, just makes NO sense for us. It's like Richardson. I think he's going to be a really good played but makes no sense for us. To me it would be like picking a guy like Khalil. Good player....just not for us.

this article is more proof that you Mando are simply an extension of the Fins front office...a lap dog for whatever scraps Ross/Ireland tell you to print

just sayin..

ALERT...... NEW POLL SAYING THE MIAMI DOLPHINS IS THE MOST HATED TEAM IN SOUTH FL.......

OUR GARAGE MANAGER IN A POLL SAYING ;;;;;;;;

EATING DOMINO'S PIZZA FOR FREE....

You dog! You got Ross himself to email you, didn't you. You sly dog you! Good work Mando.

merling is released..BERGER IS NEXT .....

So Kris, can I once again mark you down as NOT wanting to give out the sources for the information you rely on?

1) Ross needs to step back. 2) PFT is known to post rumors/stories that are embelished from time to time.

Trade Jake Long for a first round pick, most liekey in the back end. This would free up Longs massive contract and allow us to hit FA next year. Draft best tackle and guard. Build line for Barkley in 13.

ARMANDO!!!!!!!

I hope you get to read this...cause I wish to take my hat off to you sir!

Of all the news outlets I read, including the Bleacher Report, Sun Sentinal and The Herald of course, you are the only true journalist in the bunch. That includes Peter King and Mike Florio.

You took a BS story and dug for facts. You are the only one I am aware of who - with great respect to your readers - didn't simply regurgitate information like other news "reporters/agencies".

And yes, here you admit that the truth is neither simple nor even known at this point...but at least you tried. And everyone else looks lazy.

Having been a journalist, I appreciate your diligence and honesty.
