The Dolphins open a three-day rookie mini-camp today along with eight other teams. Practice is at 2:30 p.m. and I'd expect approximately 40 rookie draft picks, signed undrafted free agents and tryout players to be on the field.
The Dolphins have not yet released their list of signed UDFAs and definitely haven't confirmed their tryouts, such as former University of Miami quarterback Jacory Harris, who is expected to attend.
But below is a rudimentary working list of some of the players Miami is expected to host today through Sunday. The signees and some tryouts:
Signee Trenton Hughes, DL, Maryland
Signee Shelly Lyons, OLB, Arizona State
Signee Jarrell Root, DE, Boise St
Signee Josh Samuda, OL, UMass
Signee Jacquies Smith, DE, Missouri
Signee Jonas Gray, RB, Notre Dame
Signee Derrick Shelby, DE, Utah
Signee Derek Moye, WR, Penn State
Signee Kelcie McCray, S, Arkansas State
Signee Kevyn Scott, CB, Syracuse
Signee Jeff Fuller, WR, Texas A&M
Signee Alex Alecxih, DT, Pittsburgh
Signee Derrick Dennis, OG, Temple
Signee Terence Brown, C, BYU
Signee Dustin Waldron, OT, Portland State
Signee Cameron Collins, ILB, Oregon State
Tryout Myron Johnson, S, Arkansas Tech
Tryout Jacory Harris, QB, Miami
I'll have updates before and after practice so come back throughout the day.

YG,
No I agree that Miami didn't want to reach for a WR and tried to fill other holes and I give them a solid B plus on the draft.
Im glad they didn't reach for a WR but to me it is what it is and they dont have enought at the position.

You forgot to add this:
Play by play: Tannehill under center, takes the ball stops and fires a dart to Legaduu Naanee for 4 yards.
"And Naanee cuts back, oh he's dropped for a 4yd loss."
Tannehill has his 1st career nfl pass completed for "no gain". LOL

I think they decided to move on from Marshall when Ireland made up his mind on Tannehill.
Reports indicated Ireland new for weeks that he was going to take Tannehill.
Believe it or not, I think Ireland was being PRO-ACTIVE in regards to Tannehill and Marshall. Will wonders never cease-lol.
Ireland(and probably Philbin)decided that if they're investing the 8th overall pick on a young inexperienced QB, they were going to keep Marshall, his personality disorders and his selfish give me the damn ball prim dona-ness, as far as freaking possible away from the new kid.
We didn't FULLY understand the Marshall trade at the time. But Ireland was being proactive and thinking ahead in regards to Tannehill's "Marshall-less" development.
Kudos Jeffy, just wish you would have been equally proactive with your plan to replace Marshall as well.
PS: You guys think I'm reading to much into this? I believe the Marshall trade had more to do with Tannehill's development than Marshall's off field issues.

Dont fret dolfans. "Throwback ESPN sports report:"
Dolphins and Joe Robbie have reopened negotiations with superstar wr Paul Warfield. Reportedly, as soon as he's resigned, the 1970's Dolphins promise to lend to the 2012 Dolphins on a 1yrs only basis.
Joe Robbie:
Never fret 2012 dolfans, we're firing up the time portal device as I speak!
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | May 04, 2012 at 12:54 PM
My take is Philbin didn't want that kind of ego distraction Marshall and his antics bring. I say Philbin and Ireland both decided to unload him ASAP regardless of the QB.

Time Portal must be interfering with the message board.
Great Warfield is probably lost in cyber space.

Posted by: Kris | May 04, 2012 at 01:25 PM
JD,
Could be. It was probably some combination of both. Tannehill being the deciding factor.
I just know that according to what Ireland is saying now about how long ago he decided on Tannehill, it corresponds nicely to the trading of Marshall.
I don't think they were going to do it regardless of the who the QB was/is. Had we landed Manning for example, I'd almost bet we would have kept Marshall.
Manning could have handled Marshall where as a young inexperienced rookie couldn't have. Or at least they didn't want to find out if he could that early on in his career.
I just think there had to be a little more to it. After all Marshall did just come off a pretty good Pro Bowl year.

Regarding the Brandon Marshall trade, my take is that Irescum is secretly working for the Jests.

Who cares about marshall! he's gone. (thankfully) he was a mess here in colorado with the donkeys. Im glad he is gone cuz he sucks. i would have moved him to defense anyway. all of his dropped passes would now be paases defended and the rare one's he does catch would be a pick!!! so move on and let's look forward hoping for some respect!

Posted by: Ohio Dolfan | May 04, 2012 at 02:29 PM
I hope he starts DAY 1.....
he was the 8yh overall pick....and has a jump on EVERONE with his knowledge of the playbook....
Posted by: Kris | May 04, 2012 at 02:32 PM
I think Tannehill is going to be a BUST!!!...I watched a few of his games against the better teams in college & he was horrible...bad decisions, interceptions, throwing into double sometimes triple coverage, pick sixes...You never draft a top 10 pick based on potential!!!...A top 10 pick should be an accomplished player ready to start immediately!...The rest of the Dolphins draft picks look promising.

Don't worry, I'm not the type to run to Mando or "hunt you down". In ALL seriousness, I'll stop now. Let's see if you do. I can see you've taken this way too seriously. I don't have the time or desire to email you. (Also weird) I think that would actually make you happy.

I like Bess but at best he's a possession type/slot receiver. If we had the cap space we could sign Jacoby Jones who IMO is better than the guys we have.

Live here at rookie training camp:
Tannehill talking and laughing with Fuller and some other WR wearing number 88.
Rishard Mathews is huge. He looks like a RB playing WR.
Ireland in a golf cart with a straw hat (fake Parcells!)
Philbin talking with Lamar Miller on how to catch with his hands it looks like

No way Tannehill plays QB this year. Moore is a top 10-12 QB and Tannehill is a project.
Posted by: Fin 1984 | May 04, 2012 at 03:00 PM
I believe there's a great chance Tannehill could be day one starter if truly worthy of a #8 pick.
We're only 1 position away to the oline being truly fixed(RG). Tannehill is deadly accurate throwing on the run, which the west coast requires. Plus he's extrememly mobile(wr speed at qb. It will be a defensive nightmare when he takes off and scrambles.
Like I said, the oline is now extremely solid, only ? is RG. Plus Tannehill has all of the physical skills, know's the playbook at least 95%, there maybe suttle nuances added to the wco by Philbin from GB.
So, if Tannehill was truly worthy of a #8 overall pick, there very little reason why he can not begin 2012 as opening day starter.
The biggest adjustment will getting up to snuff on nfl coverages and blitz schemes. That can pretty much be remedied by continuosly putting him in 2nd down and manageble and 3rd and short situations. The play calling has to be specifically designed to do this.
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | May 04, 2012 at 03:00 PM
..Kris. I think just because Tanny was the number 8 pick doesn't mean we should automatically start him. Why? Because he was the number one pick? Because he knows the offense?
There is a long time to go before the start of training camp. I agree that his understanding of this complex offense is a huge advantage for him. This doesn't mean that he has knowledge of opposing defenses. This doesn't mean he can deal with the speed of this level.
We can't assume, or say that he will be ready come day 1. If he earns the spot. Then great, he should play. But throwing him out there for the sake of seing what we have accomplishes nothing if he doesn't give the team the best opportunity to win. Tannehill isn't going anywhere, so why rush it if he isn't ready? What does that prove?
Posted by: Darryl Dunphy | May 04, 2012 at 03:05 PM
YG,
I think he will show flashes of great stuff but struggle a bit with NFL defenses.....with some experience then I think year 2 will be the start of something great.
With Long, Pouncey, and now Jonathan Martin has the core of our O-line, are you pretty happy with how solid our line should be this year? Maybe open up some wholes and give enough time for the new offense to work?
Posted by: Ohio Dolfan | May 04, 2012 at 03:05 PM
I like the idea of getting a WR that Tannehill has some continuity with!!! Should have scouted for others!!! GO FINS!!!
Posted by: KillerFin | May 04, 2012 at 03:07 PM
Should Tannehill become 2012 opening day starter, its still up to the offensive coaching staff to call plays specifically designed at giving Tannehill the best chance to succeed.
Even Belichik didnt start really opening up the passing attack until Brady's 4th-5th season. Until that point, it was championship defense, run game, and well timed selective passing.
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | May 04, 2012 at 03:07 PM
Ohio, Texas doesnt come in Armando blog advertsing his blog like you. You try and do it a sneaky way as well, you wonder why I call you a used carsalemen. Shame
Posted by: FYI | May 04, 2012 at 03:10 PM
Tannehill throws first pass to Jeff Fuller on a 10 yard curl and hold your breath folks he dropped it.
Tannehill second pass 7 yard slant caught by small black guy with braids. Cant see his number from my angle.
Tannehill throws pass to Cunningham on a go route but Cunningham cuts route short and ball sails into no mans land.
Tannehill on a short crossing route to Lamar Miller who drops it but regains it at his knees and just makes and awkward roll.
Tannehill throws deep out route to Moye who makes great finger tip catch and tip toes the sideline.

For month's now I have done nothing different than Texas has.

Tannehill will not start the season. Perhaps ater game 11 or 12 assuming the Dolphins are out of contention.
They are (wisely) going to ease his transition. The demands of fans are meaningless in this process.
Tannehill is who will be propeling this franchise forward in 2013 and beyond, but not this year.
Posted by: how it will be | May 04, 2012 at 03:13 PM
I really feel like Jacory Harris has a chance to make the practice squad, not the team but the practice squad.
Posted by: BraMan | May 04, 2012 at 03:14 PM
Ireland already pretty stated, if the camp qb competition ends in a dead heap, he expects Tannehill to be named opening day starter. Dont know about the rest of you, but as a dolfan, if Tannehill forces a dead heap at the 2012 camp competition it bodes extremely well for his #8 overall selection. If not, he sits for at least a season.
Still, there will be plenty enough in preseason for all dolfans to see where Tannehill is in his development. If he's good enough to earn some 1st team snaps in preseason, that would be super fantastic! We'll know he's at or exceeding his learning curve.
