Let me begin by telling you the following are the moves made today and it will leave a roster that is good only through today. That's because the Dolphins will be back at it tomorrow, putting in waiver claims, trying to make trades, hoping to upgrade the roster as much as possible.
So some players on the team today will not be the team Monday or Tuesday.
Having said that here are the cuts as announced by the Dolphins:
Cuts: Isaako Aaitui, Vince Agnew, Ryan Baker, Will Barker, Chandler Burden, Cameron Collins, BJ Cunningham, Clyde Gates, Jeff Fuller, Ray Feinga, Chris Hogan, Quinten Lawrence, Shelly Lyons, Andrew McDonald, Lydon Murtha, Anderson Russell, Roberto Wallace, Jamaal Westerman.
Veteran linebacker Gary Guyton's contract was terminated.
DE Jarrell Root was waived injured.
CB Kevyn Scott was waived with an injury settlement.
And the club finally got around to announcing the trade of Ryan Cook which was made two days ago. He was traded to the Cowboys for a seventh-round pick.
Anthony Armstrong was waived by the Redskins. The Dolphins talked to the Redskins about trading for him today. The team may put in a claim for him now if it wishes but there are seven other teams ahead of Miami on the waiver priority list.
Hogan is expected to be signed to the practice squad if he clears waivers. Chandler Burden is expected to be signed to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Beginning at noon, New York time on Saturday, clubs may establish a Practice Squad of eight players by signing free agents who do not have an accrued season of free agency credit or who were on the 46-player Active List for less than nine regular season games during each of any Accrued Seasons. A player cannot participate on the Practice Squad for more than three seasons.
The Dolphins are shopping for cornerbacks. The Dolphins are shopping for wide receivers. The Dolphins have four quarterbacks on the roster and although coach Joe Philbin said he loves all the players in the room, no one believes this team will keep four quarterbacks.
Lots of work to do yet, folks.

Marcus Thigpen was a given. Reminds me of Welker with his quickness and overall play.

I AGREE WITH EGNEW IS A BUST! HE PLAYS SCARED! CUT HIM,CUT NANEEE,THEN ADD WR ARMSTRONG, GAFFNEY, AND ONE OTHER. TRADE MATT MOORE, KEEP DEVLIN, ADD TWO DEPENDABLE CB'S AND I STILL SEE 10-6. WHY THE DOLPHINS WITH PROPER ADJUSTMENTS HAVE A SCHEDULE WHERE IF THEY WIN ALL THE GAMES THEY ARE FAVORITE TO WIN AND HAVE A GOOD RECORD AT HOME(7-1) AND 3-5 ON ROAD. WIN ALL DIVISON GAMES AT HOME(3-0) BEAT RAIDERS,RAMS,JAGUARS,TEXANS,SEATTLE,TITANS THE ONLY LOSS OF THOSE IS MAYBE NEW ENGLAND. A FEW ADJUSTMENTS AND I STILL SEE 10-6.

Glad to hear that Ireland didn't pull the trigger on a trade for Armstrong....I guess Shanny was asking to much....
Or maybe Ireland read my post that stated "why trade for him.....just wait for him to be released" :)
In any case....for Ireland....it ALWAYS seems to be the move he doesn't make that defines his time in Miami.....Good job on this one.....

Excuse me, but with all of these "experts" posting on here about how horrible our coaches are, remind me again what the "great" Bill Belichick did with HISH 1st head coaching gig ? That's right - FIRED from Cleveland! Unless you've coached in the NFL, please SHUT THE F UP and let these people do their jobs already, huh? Say whatever you want about Ireland - he's had plenty of time to find enough talent, but leave Philbin & Co. out of the argument until you have ANY kind of real data to toss into your "argument" - pre-seasone means NOTHING! Sparano used to go 3-1 & 4-0 and what did THAT ever get us? GROW UP !!

Miami is the only team in the nfl that has 2 drafts a year. In April & before week 1. Most GM's get it right by the end of May....

Let me join Kris and other posters with kudos to Jeff Ireland for the moves he makes and the moves he doesn't make. No wasted motion with the guy. And to respond to other negative posters, Michael Egnew is the new face of the franchise, like it or not.

Ireland's republican army (by the way very cool name).
I'm one of the very few Ireland supporter's around here and Cote's blog (not sure that you are) but the guy is a good talent evaluator and in time he will prove everybody wrong..
everybody else keep blaming the guy for parcells picks and free agent moves, I guess is the easy thing to do for them.
Posted by: FZB | September 01, 2012 at 07:59 AM
sounds like Daniel Thomas got a wake up call......he runs hard and his stats were solid last year, considering he was limited......he'll be fine.
Posted by: BPA | September 01, 2012 at 08:03 AM
does jack sparrow know anything about football? the rumor was trading slaton for armstrong. is steve slaton going to stick once the free agents available get brought in? no. so a trade for a potential cut to bring in a wide receiver was a bad idea? lol, learn a little about football before posting. heck at least it wasn't as bad as some idiot that questioned why miam i waited until yesterday to start making cuts....classic

With the first pick of 2013 Draft, the Dolphins select. Bank on it.
Posted by: phil | September 01, 2012 at 08:18 AM
To FZB and others who don't just follow the herd here. To blame Jeff Ireland for the Dolphins roster, rather than Bill Parcells is like blaming the piano player at a whorehouse. Jeff Ireland was nothing more than a passive observer collecting a paycheck the entire time Parcells was in Miami. Let's give Jeff Irelands picks a few more years before we criticize their selection. Patience pays.
Posted by: Ireland's Republican Army | September 01, 2012 at 08:19 AM
our roster is not very good, no argument, but for all here who try to make it complicated, looking at every borderline player and/or draft pick, its much more simple than that......look at the top 5-7 teams in the league and then look at the top 5-7 QBs in the league.....that list will be identical or very close--this aint about Hogan, or Egnew, or waiver wires, or really anything else.....its not rocket science.....Miami (and all the other teams) is good when they have a top QB--period.

are you crazy...its about the LT....and we have the BEST IN THE GAME......
We can't name any other teams LT.....nor will most fans of other teams have ANY IDEA who Jake Long is (probably think he is Howie's son)....
but I STILL maintain...its about the LT.....

I have to admit....your post are refreshing and entertaining.....I enjoy reading them...don't really agree with them...but I like reading them nonetheless.....
Posted by: Kris | September 01, 2012 at 08:29 AM
Joe Thomas, D'Brickashaw Ferguson. Michael Ohre (or is he RT). Those are the only LTs I can name in this league. Unfortunately Long's name, not performance, got him to the pro bowl the last two seasons; even though he was injured each season. If he's healthy again than he's a monster. I'm just hoping his best years aren't behind him AND he doesn't demand a monster contract that'll eat up a lot of cap
Posted by: MiamiD20 | September 01, 2012 at 08:49 AM
MiamiD...
That post @ 8:26 was total sarcasm....I am in complete agreement with BPA...
I believe Ohr is back on the right side as well....and of the 2 LT you named....ZERO play off wins last year....
Posted by: Kris | September 01, 2012 at 08:55 AM
You can win in this league with a serviceable LT.....as evidenced by the past 5 SB winners...NONE of them had Jake Long on their team....
so you don't need the best LT in the game to build a team....

Selective memory. Didn't Ireland NOT make the moves on Orton, McNab, Kolb...three players you lobbied for?
People who are generally unhappy in life tend to focus always on the negative and rarely see the positive.

I cant remember this ever being the case the day after we made the final roster cuts,
What does that tell you about the state of the franchise?

If this little (WR) drama doesnt get Jeffery axed then nothing will. And where was Philbin during the last draft? After watching Philbin on HKs I'M convinced more then ever that hes mealy mouthed and gets to the point by way of Chicago. He couldnt talk straight if his life depended on it. Philbin lacks confidence and poies and his players see that. Moral is low and they play like it. Dont even get me started on Jeffery,,,,Hello,,,Newman.

My problem with Ireland is that he was taught by Parcells. Parcells believed in building a team from inside out. This is a common and effective way since the earth isn't loaded with 6'7 330 pound guys that are quick and agile.
However, Parcells also believed that skill positions WR's RB's CB's were less important as they were almost no real difference at the pro level. There was no difference in a first round QB and Romo. Because Parcells had some success with this it was a mentality that skill positions were mix and match.
Parcells didn't think that talent at the skill positions was as important as guys learning the system.
That was possible in his NFL with running the ball and PA Passing.
But the game has changed and I think Ireland unfortunately still thinks this way. Hence he flounders about looking for good skill position players but that goes against what he was taught by Parcells. Ireland either doesn't know what he's looking for, or he's stubborn in keeping with this mind set..
Posted by: mike d | September 01, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Guys do you really think Ireland is a programmed robot with no mind of his own?
Pure silliness.
Parcells is gone. Ireland has direct contact with tons of people in the NFL, many before Parcells, and many after.
To think his mind is permanently molded forever is ridiculous. It sure looks like he is working with his coaching staff and not against them.

"The Dolphins are shopping for cornerbacks. The Dolphins are shopping for wide receivers." Wow, that's like going to the supermarket. Then on the way home you realize you don't want what you bought. Throwing out the groceries and heading back to the supermarket.
What a General Manager! He loves to shop for acorns that do not and can not develop.
Posted by: promichael | September 01, 2012 at 10:22 AM
This team regresses every day. Its been that way since Parcells left. Ross only cleaned half the house when he fired Sparano. The other half (Ireland)is worse. Ireland has been far far more destructive to the team and the reputation of this franchise then Sparano ever was.
Posted by: Burger 305 | September 01, 2012 at 10:26 AM
HEY Ireland,
Is your mom a prostitute cuz you sure f***ked our team
Posted by: Joseph | September 01, 2012 at 10:34 AM
Anyone who cares about the reputation of the Dolphins has to want Ireland out. Between the classless Dez Bryant incident to whispers of possible racism to Ireland's clear hatred of the fans and media. The team is not highly thought of across the nation. Players dont want to play here.
Posted by: Burger 305 | September 01, 2012 at 10:36 AM
I have no life so I will pass my time away coming to the blog to repeat the same old complaints about Ireland day after day after day.

Ireland that.
Ireland Blah

!#@ Ireland
Ireland @#$!!
Posted by: Typical Fin Fan | September 01, 2012 at 10:42 AM
I knew it was sarcasm Kris, or at least I was really hoping it was. I agree, you dont need elite LTs to get far, but you most certainly need guys that can hold your own. The less time you have in the pocket, or, the quicker that clock ticks in your head as a QB the worse your decisions are going to be. Trading Long only works if you replace him in the following draft with another 1st or 2nd round OL pick. Resigning him is going to be a b***h. If we have no plans on resigning him for Joe Thomas money then we should trade him now. Problem is teams know he'll be free at the end of the season (think Dwayne Bowe scenario and the Cheifs)
Posted by: MiamiD20 | September 01, 2012 at 10:43 AM
Typical Fin Fan, lol that's funny!! It's also true. Ireland certainly isn't the best but it's certainly not all his fault.

Between the classless Dez Bryant incident
Posted by: Burger 305 | September 01, 2012 at 10:36 AM
it was clear the second Bryant complained about Ireland asking that question that Dez just doesn't get it. This is a business that flirts with multi-million dollar contracts. Ireland asked that question to protect himself and instead Dez blew it up because he felt offended? Offended by the truth? GMs all around ask similar questions to other players because they want to know what they're getting into and I haven't heard any one else complain. As evident today, Dez is all about himself. He thinks his ways are right and if you disagree you're wrong. Classless? No. Embarrassing? Slightly. The football world doesn't look down on Ireland for asking that question, they understand it.
Posted by: MiamiD20 | September 01, 2012 at 10:48 AM
They understand it? Yes, they understand it was classless. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
Posted by: Burger 305 | September 01, 2012 at 10:52 AM
You're saying Ireland was wrong for doing his due diligence on a player? Maybe he could have asked the question less bluntly, but in no way was that an absurd question to ask
Posted by: MiamiD20 | September 01, 2012 at 10:56 AM
Are we talking about the same Dez Bryant who beat up his prostitute mom?? We talking about a guy who has more rules then a high school student?? F$

Drew Rosenhaus, when asked about Jeff Ireland...."My mother taught me if I have nothing good to say, dont say anything." LOL

What kind of idiot trades picks for garbage. Or garbage for garbage.
Posted by: JackSparrow | September 01, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Ireland has terrible people skills. So I can see him coming across as a d***. I'm sure players get asked about their home life, drug addiction, stupidity, etc. The franchise is banking a lot of money and a draft position they can use on another talented player, they want to make sure they don't get screwed.
Posted by: MiamiD20 | September 01, 2012 at 11:01 AM
A GM has the resources to easily find out if a 1st rd picks mother is a prostitute. There is no reasom to ask an impressionable 21 yr old that question other then to bait him. Ireland could've and should've had that answer BEFORE the interview.
Posted by: Burger 305 | September 01, 2012 at 11:02 AM
Impressionable 21 year old??? Who here believes Dez Bryant was an impressionable 21 year old?? He had more street experience then everyone here put together.

Drew Rosenhaus, when asked about Jeff Ireland...."My mother taught me if I have nothing good to say, dont say anything." LOL
Posted by: Burger 305 | September 01, 2012 at 10:58 AM
He's protecting his client. Would you have expected Drew to say "well, Ireland had a point; Dez's mom is one of the most renowned prostitutes in the area, but we really wish Ireland would have stayed mum on the subject". If there is a quote from another person in an authoritative position on a football team (ie: another GM or team president etc) then I can see it's embarrassing....but since the incident happened I haven't heard one person say "remember when Ireland embarrassed Dez Bryant" the only people who bring it up are Miami fans. In all things NFL related no one cares about it anymore. It was a media story during an offseason of football.
Posted by: MiamiD20 | September 01, 2012 at 11:06 AM
Odd move by the Browns....keeping McCoy as the Back-up in Cleveland...they spent MOST of the off-season and pre-season telling us he wasn't any good....I am sure McCoy has his following in Cleveland....just like for some reason...FIN FANS loved Henne...even after it became painfully obvious he wasn't any good....
Maybe after J-ville develops Henne...we can re-sign him....

Bingo Mike, you're right on target. The same can be said for a modern era TE. Ireland finally got the 'memo' this spring.....probably at the urging of Philbin....but not surprisingly picked a slug.
Posted by: cocoajoe | September 01, 2012 at 11:08 AM
Burger are you a pansy? Is your daddy a mouse and your mom a tulip?
Life is brutal and you are whining over a silly question someone asked. So Ireland failed Miss Manners etiquette policy. Big f'n deal.
If that is what plagues your mind you have bigger issues to deal with.
Posted by: Sargo | September 01, 2012 at 11:08 AM
Burger....Ireland asked because he wanted to hear Dez's answer. Ireland already knew the answer to the question. You don't just randomly ask a guy "so was your mom a prostitute, we're just going out on a limb because you're black and from a poor neighborhood". He wanted to see how the kid would respond and see what kind of man he was. His reaction said everything Ireland wanted to know about the kid

MiamiD20, the Drew Rosenhaus comment was after Y Bell was cut after being promised a spot a week prior. It wasnt regarding Bryant.

Ok.
Next.

The question was out of line. Thats why Ireland apologized. Or was forced to apologize or be fired.
Posted by: Burger 305 | September 01, 2012 at 11:13 AM
Burger, this is a cutthroat business. I wouldn't have believed Ireland if there was even a chance YB would have been cut (as rumor had it). Even Drew has to know there's no loyalty in this game.
Posted by: MiamiD20 | September 01, 2012 at 11:16 AM
'twas an empty apology

Burger you sound like a whiny kid who still harbors resentment over being told you have the koodies by a five year old back when you were six.
Is your daddy a h omo? And does me asking you that question now do irreparable damages to your life and manhood? Do you want to sign a football player that frail?

Ireland called to apologize and then went to him personally on the sideline to apologize. Empty or not, what more should he do? 90 hours of community service? Abstain from sex for 10 years?
He blew it, asked the wrong question. Now let me tell you something, people have done far worse things, even yourselves.
Check that.
