Three years ago Anthony Armstrong was discarded by the Miami Dolphins because he wasn't good enough to make it on the team. Today they are working to trade for the wide receiver to upgrade their corps of pass-catchers.
The Dolphins are in talks to trade Steve Slaton to the Redskins in exchange for Armstrong, according to a league source and as reported by multiple credible media outlets.
But this is just talk at this moment, folks. Nothing is done yet.
The rumored trade of Matt Moore, meanwhile, is merely that at this moment. Matt Moore right now is a Miami Dolphins quarterback. As for David Garrard, his status is simple. If he's healthy, he stays. If he's not, he goes. That according to a team source.
And the decision doesn't have to be made until next week.
The Dolphins have made about a dozen moves so if you wish to check on those click on the link.

Anythings better than nothing at this point!!!

Leave it to Ireland to trade away an area of strength to get a marginal upgrade at WR.
BTW--Bush is STILL injury prone & Miller is still raw.

You can't make this stuff up!!!!!
Posted by: XpensiveWino | August 31, 2012 at 12:50 PM
Sure why not. Not sure Slaton would do much this year. He's 4th on the depth chart and would likely only play if Bush were to be traded at some point.

Craig,
Or if there's an injury to Bush or Thomas.

So our version of an upgrade is to bring back someone we cut a few years ago? Next we're going to be trading for Roberto Wallace. Sure Slaton is a luxury, but we can't trade him for anything better than Anthony Armstrong?
Posted by: MiamiD20 | August 31, 2012 at 12:56 PM
"The rumored trade of Matt Moore, meanwhile, is merely that at this moment. Matt Moore right now is a Miami Dolphins quarterback."
I believe that Moore will be traded & that we'll keep Devlin. Enough with the draft picks--get a f#cking player who can help us this year.
Posted by: We Have RB's | August 31, 2012 at 12:56 PM
This trade just emphasis how clueless this front office has been over the past years. No ability to draft & no ability to develop talent -- panic and go after cast offs to build a 5-11 team.
Please Mr. Ross FIRE IRELAND!!

MiamiD20,
Now you get it. LOL!!!
Posted by: We Have RB's | August 31, 2012 at 12:57 PM
sign CB O Hansen, who Eagles cut....solid depth--sign that Gurley kid that GB cut, might save us from having to trade for Jones--or do both and increase our odds of finding a decent WR, whether they get Armstrong or not--we need to add 2-3
Posted by: BPA | August 31, 2012 at 12:57 PM
who the F is Anthony Armstrong .. christ have mercy!
Posted by: concernedphinsfan | August 31, 2012 at 12:58 PM
Anthony Armstrong???? Really??? How come I'm not excited??? I'd much rather give up a draft pick & try to get Santana Moss.
Posted by: We Have RB's | August 31, 2012 at 12:59 PM
Another example of Ireland incompetence. He cut Armstrong three years ago and now is trying to work out a trade to get him back. This is sooo comical. Get rid of this jerk and let's build a legitimate contender. COME ON ROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: nemak | August 31, 2012 at 12:59 PM
Anthony Armstrong is actually pretty descent. He will be one of the fastest receivers Maimi has. AA had a strong year the year before last but had some injury issues last year. The Redskins made a lot of upgrades at the receiver position this past year and just left AA as the odd man out. Good trade for Miami, not sure what the Skins plan on doing with Slaton.
Posted by: Dan | August 31, 2012 at 12:59 PM
and regarding Slaton....if there is an injury to Bush, Miller or Thomas then we can find another RB of Slaton's caliber.....he's ok but he's just a depth vet at this point--bottom line is we must upgrade WR, and if trading a mediocre vet in a position of strength, then you do it......"what if they get injured" is a roll of the dice for every team.
Posted by: BPA | August 31, 2012 at 01:00 PM
Another Acorn come and gone...thats who..irefiend seems to like 3,4,5s on this team
So were swapping a #3 RB for a #5 reciever...good deal!!!
Posted by: superPHIN | August 31, 2012 at 01:00 PM
nemak.....we had more depth at WR 3 years ago
Posted by: BPA | August 31, 2012 at 01:01 PM
Agreed on Santana Moss. Let him finish his career here in Miami
Posted by: certified turd burglar | August 31, 2012 at 01:03 PM
What's about Mardy Gilliard ?!
Posted by: sebasmo77 | August 31, 2012 at 01:04 PM
At this point I'd rather trade Slaton for a 6th round pick than Anthony Armstrong, it's a wash getting him. Grab the pick so we can use it to trade up in the draft next season to get someone with potential, not a WR we're going to end up cutting AGAIN.
Posted by: MiamiD20 | August 31, 2012 at 01:05 PM
Never liked the Gates pickup but I like less how they "coached" him up. Lack of coaching skills it seems to me.
Posted by: certified turd burglar | August 31, 2012 at 01:07 PM
COME ON MAN! GET A FUC%ING DECENT WR. IDIOTS.
Posted by: Dolphin 77 | August 31, 2012 at 01:08 PM
Remember how 2 years ago when WR was no longer a need and RB our biggest hole? Funny how things change so quickly....here's to hoping our WR luck can change just as quickly (starting next offseason)
A 2nd for Jones is not smart, package the 2 next year to get back into the 1st round, don't trade for ANOTHER #3 caliber WR, even if it is an upgrade
Posted by: MiamiD20 | August 31, 2012 at 01:08 PM
Slaton got us our first win last year.
Posted by: Fasucko | August 31, 2012 at 01:10 PM
Ireland and Sparano drafted Gates strictly because he was the fastest guy in the draft. I'd rather give up .4 seconds on the 40 yard dash and get a receiver that can run routes, catch the ball, and has some kind of football IQ. Gates had none of the intangibles except he was fast. Obviously that gets you no where.
Posted by: MiamiD20 | August 31, 2012 at 01:11 PM
this deal is done. inked
Posted by: Fasucko | August 31, 2012 at 01:12 PM

BPA,
Yeah you're right. Let's see if Larry Johnson is still available....
Posted by: We Have RB's | August 31, 2012 at 01:12 PM
I love it how everyone is saying just go get a #1 WR, like it is that easy. Yeah why not package Slaton, Hogan and Shelby to Detroit for Megatron?? LOL. People teams are NOT giving up good players, all you are going to get is a teams 5th best WR and hopefully a team is so deep that on our team he becomes our #2. Great WR's are not showing up on the waiver wire so get over it. If you keep saying those types of things people are just going to think that you are stupid.

Dear Mr. Salguero
Just touching base's with ya.
Dolphins blah blah blah....I hate Jeff Ireland so on and so forth.
Go Dolphins !
What I really wanted to tell you is this Monday I'll be seeing James Taylor in Charlotte NC.
Great right....here's the kicker...Jeff Bridges and the Abiders will be playing also.
The Dude Abides....for those that don't know its the Big Labowski's band.
Its because of the DNC in Charlotte.
I hopefully will get to see some body from the Daily show or from the Colbert report and will do my best to get some face time.
Anywhoo I'm getting stocked up on medical Herb hand rolled smoke-ables and hard liquor....already got the ugly old lady
Talk with ya soon
Soiled :)

Jeff Ireland does it again. I am in awe.
Posted by: Ireland's Republican Army | August 31, 2012 at 01:16 PM
The genius of Jeff Ireland with Anthony Armstrong. Cut him & then pay to get him back.
You can't make this stuff up!
Jansen would be a good DB to bring in & the eagles also cut Mardy Gilyard. The kid had some postential a few years ago & they are loaded at WR.
I'd give him a look.
Posted by: The truth is... | August 31, 2012 at 01:20 PM
Armando is it possible for you for once not to be such a drama queen and think things through before you immediately jump to the negative? Jeez wtf.
"Three years ago Anthony Armstrong was discarded by the Miami Dolphins because he wasn't good enough to make it on the team. Today they are working to trade for the wide receiver to UPGRADE their corps of pass-catchers."
Three years ago he was a rookie playing in Hennings system. Hennings system was no west coast offense, they wanted big receivers and Armstrong was an undrafted free agent. Was supposed to challenge Bess but Bess won the slot receiver position right? I could be mistaken but that's what I remember.
He went to Washington and played with Shanny in the WCO where he did very well. He trained for two or more years in the west coast offense which suits him better and wow look, it's the offense that we run!
AND no need to have to worry about the slot being overfilled because this offense doesn't rely heavily on tall receivers, just need people to get open. Yeah not the greatest signing but it isn't the end of the world. Lighten up.
Posted by: Phins78 | August 31, 2012 at 01:24 PM
What's the problem with bringing Armstrong back? What did they pay for Slaton?.....NOTHING. So they are trading a guy they got for NOTHING for a guy they gave up for NOTHING. Is this hard math for guys to figure out? In school they taught us NOTHING minus NOTHING is NOTHING. Has this changed?
When did guys become so attached to Steve Slaton all of sudden? Sometimes I think some of you guys wouldn't be happy unless you had something to complain about....SERIOUSLY.
Posted by: Craig M | August 31, 2012 at 01:24 PM
You guys make me laugh. You have one agenda and will say anything to prove how you feel. How you feel doesn't matter, go get a tissue and cry somewhere else . That said Armstrong isn't that bad, he would be a upgraded , not a 1 but could be a good spread the field reicver now that gates is gone. Bush is starting to shake the injury prone tag, keep up!
Posted by: ThinkB4Uspeak | August 31, 2012 at 01:27 PM
Very few objective poster here today. Knee jerk idiocy rules the roost. Have a great day ladies.
Posted by: Phins78 | August 31, 2012 at 01:27 PM
Steve Slaton would've been cut, regardless. It was a nice trade. Anthony Armstrong is an upgrade over anything we got.
I wonder what Vontae's Grandma has to say about this trade.
Posted by: Dolfdan13 | August 31, 2012 at 01:27 PM
Craig M doing his best Ireland homer impersonation. Can't say I'm surprised.
Posted by: Typical | August 31, 2012 at 01:29 PM
I guess some of you guys would be happier if Ireland didn't at least TRY to improve the roster, right? No you're going to criticize him regardless of what he does. No one is saying Armstrong is a star but he's better than the like of Wallace or Gates who got chopped this morning. None of this stuff is going to get straightened out until the draft in April....so don't forget to breathe...April is a long way off!
Posted by: Craig M | August 31, 2012 at 01:30 PM
Phins78 and Craig M I am glad I am not the only one defending Jeff Ireland. For I while I thought no one else appreciated Jeff Ireland's personnel skills. Why can't other fans see that the Dolphins personnel problems can all be laid at the doorstep of Bill Parcells? Jeff Ireland was a passive observer while all of this happened. Best analogy is the piano player at a whorehouse.
Posted by: Ireland's Republican Army | August 31, 2012 at 01:30 PM
Just fold the stinkin team already. Every move makes the Dolphin nightmare worse.
Posted by: mike | August 31, 2012 at 01:30 PM

You too Sally! Don't forget to take your Metamucil!
Posted by: Mary Swanson | August 31, 2012 at 01:31 PM
Phins78, I think we're more upset that Ireland hasn't been the greatest evaluator of talent when he is suppose to be one of the "best" scouts in the game; that's why he was hired as our GM. If he knew Armstrong was fast then why cut him only to draft Gates? Cause Gates was .1 second faster in the 40?
Posted by: MiamiD20 | August 31, 2012 at 01:32 PM
Clearly, trading Marshall was moronic. Irescum will never be able to replace him.
Posted by: Phinmanski | August 31, 2012 at 01:33 PM
Wait a second. Anthony Armstrong is an upgrade? Since when? An upgrade over whom? Roberto Wallace? Whom?
He was a #3 WR on the Redskins. We have plenty of 3-6's. Ireland said it on Hard Knocks. Weren't you listening?
We need a #1 & #2. How exactly would acquiring Armstrong address those 2 vacancies?
Oh that's right, IT DOESN'T!
Posted by: The Truth is... | August 31, 2012 at 01:35 PM
Trade for Wes Welker!
Posted by: certified turd burglar | August 31, 2012 at 01:38 PM
Marshall trade colossal fail. I liked AA back then, but the irony of having to trade for a guy you cut...You can't make that up
Posted by: Marc | August 31, 2012 at 01:40 PM
You know things are bad for this franchise when the Patriots just cut a WR & a Safety who are enough to be the 3rd best player at their position on our team. Just sad...
Posted by: We Have RB's | August 31, 2012 at 01:41 PM
Perfect Ireland...cut the guy from the team and then trade to get him back!!!!
This guy really sucks...but then we knew that already.
Posted by: fins4ever | August 31, 2012 at 01:43 PM
Mando I'm surprised you didn't say how bad the phins are or the miss davis already or how we'll win 2 games this year.Come on mando, keep giving us your negative feedback about the team.
Posted by: BoulderPhinFan | August 31, 2012 at 01:44 PM
"Trade for Wes Welker!"
Burglar,
He doesn't want to play here. Ryan Clark of the Steelers was absolutely right--no one does. And could you blame them??? Players want to win.
Posted by: We Have RB's | August 31, 2012 at 01:45 PM
They absolutely need to pick up Deion Branch!
Posted by: certified turd burglar | August 31, 2012 at 01:47 PM
So people think we only give up Slaton? Let's analyze shall we?
Look at it from the skins perspective:
Got Armstrong for free, got decent production out of him for 2 years & now trade him for 1 RB.
The Miami perspective:
We cut the guy. Wasted a a draft pick trying to replace his speed & now also give up Rb depth to get him back.
Miami gave up nothing to get him? Get your head outtyer as)! Jeff Ireland is a major f-up!
Posted by: Dumb Phin Fans | August 31, 2012 at 01:47 PM
How many drops did marshal have last year? How many drops in enzone did he have? He would have been bad for a rookie qb because all he cares about is himself, their trying to build a team, can't do that with a much of me guys. Thought it was a good move to trade him, how many divas are on the green bay team? Again, think before you speak!
Posted by: ThinkB4Uspeak | August 31, 2012 at 01:47 PM
With over 600 players being released today, Fins could find a whole new team that would be competitive with what they have !!!!!
Posted by: CoyoteGuy | August 31, 2012 at 01:47 PM
I'd trade a 2 & 3 for Welker right now!
Posted by: certified turd burglar | August 31, 2012 at 01:48 PM
how is it Ireland's fault Armstrong didn't make the field w/ TS? !
Posted by: certified turd burglar | August 31, 2012 at 01:49 PM
THIS IS FOR IRELAND'S REPUBLICAN ARMY,PHINS78 AND CRAIG M,
You guys need to come over and see all the crap I have to put up with over at Cote's blog for defending Ireland, I have tried to reason with all these guys and tell them where the blame should fall on (Parcells) but everyone just choses to ignore it and go on with their venom towards the guy.
in reference to Anthony Armstong, he was let go three years ago as a 7th rounder or free agent (can't remember) , he was waive injured and the Dolphins had two young speedy receivers that made that club by the name of Roberto Wallace and Marlon Moore but Armando is making it look like the Dolphins are just clueless and of course these idiots by into it.
