Ireland: Dolphins 'probably not interested' in T.O.

The Miami Dolphins got rid of Brandon Marshall because he had off-field issues and was, in the team's eyes, a problem with teammates. They got rid of Chad Johnson because he didn't fit the culture that coach Joe Philbin wants to establish -- that from Philbin himself.

And today they got rid of Vontae Davis, who is still a very talented player but fits into the category of not fitting the culture based on behind-the-scenes issues we'll get into later.

Is there any doubt whether Terrell Owens has a future with the Miami Dolphins?

"Probably not," general manager Jeff Ireland said when I asked him if he will have any interest in the wide receiver who was cut today by the Seattle Seahawks.

Owens is 38 years old, coming off a knee injury that forced him to miss all of last season, and he's not as productive as he once was. He caught two passes for 41 yards in two preseason games with Seattle.

But it is the off-field issues, the drama so to speak, that keeps Owens from being a possible answer for the receiver-starved Dolphins.

Owens has issues with his various paternity obligations. He is struggling financially. He has been known to blow up teammates, such as Donovan McNabb. And he still has hopes of having a reality TV show.

Nope, not happening.

As to the Davis trade, it is clear the Dolphins are getting rid of players they have become uncomfortable with beyond their peformance and Davis fell into that mold. He is only 24 and can change but he lost favor when he had issues being in shape this year, got into a pushing match with Carolina's Steve Smith two weeks ago, lost his starting job and last year showed up to work with a hangover after a late night of drinking.

"We know a lot about our players," Ireland said. "Some of that includes things you don't know about them or isn't seen by the public ..."

By the way, Ireland says the Dolphins might still use the extra draft picks he picked up in the Davis trade on a wide receiver. He called it "ammunition to do things this year or any year."

And that's what leads to those players lately being released or traded.

Bryan Cox made the pro bowl 0 times so YG...

What's up guys?

I am making a rare non-working day appearance. Wow how discouraging is it to know that Miami is already under fire sale and the 1st game hasn't even been played yet. I am realistic that Miami was a rebuilding project but to give away both Brandon Marshall and Vontae Davis for lesser picks then was used to acquire them is down right mind numbing as a fan.

Marshall cost 2 2nd rounders and then was traded for 2 3rds. Vontae Davis a 24 year old former first rounder is shipped off 3 years in for a 2nd makes no sense.

Jeff Ireland is showing how incompetant he is. He is admitting he was wrong on both moves but mortgaged more to acquire them then to ship them off. He is showing he doesn't have an eye for talent or how to build a team. I also have zero confidence in what his "plan" is. He has done a terrible job drafting players. This is bad guys. We are officially the worst team in the league with zero playmakers or difference makers on either side of the ball.

If Shla had paid Dansby the money he's now making and getting the performance Dansby's now giving(zero pro bowls). Shula would replace him with an Artena league lb that plays 10 times harder.

guys do we have the cap space to trade for some of these players that want to be highly paid.

I think we might go after a o-line man. We dont have but two or three million and cutting Gerrard might get you another 2 million.

Really we think we are going to make a big splash. Guys we are cleaning house for the next two years. Dansby, Long, and Bush will be gone really soon.

The locker room is going to be a mess and the stadium should be empty enough to get Ireland gone and maybe we can move to Operation Cowher. Not that I am positive he would come work for Ross.

We are in very deep doo-doo. That light at the end of the tunnel just was moved four years down the road.

Very sad, but probably has to happen. Wish I would have canceled my NFL Sunday Ticket. This is the first time in my 40 year life I could care less about opening day.

Is Camarilo still a free agent he could always catch the ball.

Round and Round where we stop no one ever knows. Please people stay away from the stadium. Empty seats are the only hope. Stop this madness through pocket book voting.

YG you make no sense so please

Scotty.....you're a real rocket scientist......no, Miami passed on Flynn, but looking at the others, can you blame them? Are you surprised? No one is arguing a few of the others.....we started by talking about Flynn.....the guy Miami, and the rest of the league, and SEA if they could take it back, passed on--and the fact that plenty of Miami fans, columnists, national media, etc were killing them for it--and yet, several months later, he's a backup....thats all.

Yesterday is gone,

Where do you get your information?

Philbin was not on the Packers squad when the team beat NE in the 1996 Super Bowl.

Mike Sherman had much more to do with Rogers development than Philbin.

In addition, I have never heard of an offensive coordinator who devised the game plan but never called a play! WTF?!

Philbins first move as Miami head coach was to change the D from a 3-4 to a 4-3. Miami's D was ranked 6th in the NFL. Why change the D which resulted in wasting draft picks which are much needed considering the Dolphins have the 28th ranked offensive unit.

These are not signs of a good coach. This guy belongs in a high school coaching teen agers.

Say what you want, but Sporanos Dolphins looked much more competitive during pre season than what we are seeing from Philbin.

Philbin is clown Larry Coker look alike who will lead us to a 4-12 season.

I've never seen a blogger wrong more often then YG. Its pretty comical how he eats crow every day.

same fans who are out of their minds that they traded a slug like VD, who disrespected his teammates, coaches and fans both of the past 2 years (yet they basically got equal value).....and are so worried that Philbin is "losing the vets", the same vets that produced that awesome 6-10 record last year--fans gotta get a clue.

And the emperor arrows again!

Yesterday is gone,

Brandon Marshall is a pro bowler in fact last year he was the MVP of the pro bowl.

Davis only played 10 games last year yet he led the team in interceptions with 4.

The guy has tremendous potential.

Philbin has a lot to do with these moves

AndyNJ,

You fail to consider Vontae was a 27th pick of the 1st rd. AKA, glorified 2nd rd pick.

There's good chance Indy could be picking top 5 this year, no higher than top 10. That means for the glorified 2nd rd pick used on Vontae we pick somewhere between #5 and #10 of the 2nd rd 2013. Plus to make up any lacking difference we have a conditional pick.

Who knows, depending on how well Vontae plays for them, that could be anywhere from maybe a 6th to 3rd rd pick. Plus the Vonte deal could turn into a compensatory pick. If Vontae suddenly turns into a pro bowler this year with Indy. The compensatory pick alone could be 2nd -3rd rd.

This really isnt a bad deal for an underachieving player that loves to come to camp out of shape. Think about it.

emperorkt agreed. Philbin is another Cameron. The players dont even respect him. His team is out of shape and unprepared. The dreck of the NFL (Tampa and Carolina) destroys his team

Strikes, not arrows.

But hey, ireland couldnt get anyone else to coach

This is spiritual pestilence! Worse than the black plague of the middle ages.

Never in my life have I seen two imbeciles work hand in hand, Hitler and Himmler, Stalin and Beria, Ireland and Philbin, Dumb and Dumber, George Bush and Cheney!

I hate them all.....

If we're truly in rebuild mode, I seriously doubt trade deals will be made with accumulated picks. Just doesnt make a whole lot of sense right now. No matter how good the player is. We arent going to win very many games anyway right now.

So the 1st couple yrs of that player's contract would be a virtual waste. Aother 3yrs of rebuilding the rebuild. Sucks but has to be done.

JJ.....thats true.....jury is out on Philbin but lets face it, its not like the top coaches were all tripping over themselves to come here--Philbin is here because no other top coach wanted to come--just hoping Philbin turns into one of them over time......Ireland had to hire from the 2nd or 3rd string.

Guys,

Have you noticed that when everyone ignores the troll. Hegins to talk to himself using different aliases. LOL

Redsky,

The topic of the Dolphins boils my blood to a degree not possible even on the surface of the sun.

We are wasting our time, $, and prestige due two circus clowns like Philbin and Ireland!

Ireland is as popular as Fidel Castro in South Florida but don't forget Philbin will go down as Cam Cameron!

Degenerate scum!

Irescum will take the #2 we got for Vontae and bring us another Pat White. Or Philp Merling. Or Patrick Turner. Or an Eggnew. YIKES!!

JJ....actually, VD and Dansby were out of shape last year too, as half of the defense was it seems.....difference is that Philbin is actually getting rid of those guys that are out of shape and unprepared.....

BPA,

Im beginning to think JI is allowing Philbin to form his own team with his own identity. The greatest detractor to vet hc's coming here was working under Ireland.

Im beginning to see maybe Ireland will let his hc build his own team and stamp his own identity upon that team. This is what the vet hc's were so afraid they wouldnt be able to do under Ireland.

Looks like Ireland's also out to prove the Fishers and Cowher's wrong in thier perception Ireland would rule personel with an iron clad hand.

BPA, you are right they didnt respect Sparano either.

Fisher is a much more accomplished coach than Philbin, with credibility and many years of head coaching experience, and respected.....certainly was treated like a top coach by all of the media, local and national.....debatable based on his record but thats a fact--who knows about Gruden and Cowher but if they wouldve felt Miami was a great situation, they wouldve come.....obviously they didn't. I'm not complaining about Philbin by the way, at all.....just stating what seems obvious.

BPA,

Stephen Ross is a vulture looking carpetbagger who sleeps in a coffin. His attempt to land Jim Harbaugh by going behind Sporanos back blacklisted Miami from all qualified respectable coaches. Ireland was once Parcells boot licker is now Ross's lap dog!

Ross should have fired both Ireland and Sporano and hired Jim Harbaugh.

We are now stuck with a coach who's testicles are smaller than atoms! His IQ is limited to John Madden football on a play station!

Fisher is a very good coach. Only had 1 losing season?

Prediction:

Dez Bryant to Miami within the next week. Next season Dolphins make a strong play for Dwayne Bowe. Bowe playing on a 1-year franchise tag. Chiefs will not pay him long term contract. South Florida guy who wants to be here. It would make a nice combination Bryant - Bowe - Bess - Bush - Gates. Almost the killer B's all over again. If this can result the phins can focus next draft on defense, defense, defense!

Emp with all due respect your opinion is sh*#. Philbin rocks and you are a douche.

This is a lost cause. There can not be a true serious rebuilding until Ireland is gone. BTW I am not criticizing the move, in fact I think it is a good one, it is the TIMING. Always reacting and with not a coherent plan. I bet money this move happened after yet another abysmal preseason. Imagine the position this team would have been with a new GM who right off the bat would have traded Marshall, Davis, Fasano (when he had some value) and even loud mouths like Dansby who is an ok player but certainly not worth his salary. I feel bad for Tanny and Philbin, I think both will get burnt with Ireland's ineptitude. Why is Fasano still in this team? And as for the rest of the draft picks? I know it's too early but it is not looking good. I mean a 3rd rounder (from the Marshall trade) wasted on Egnew? Not a single mock in America had him that early. Pathetic!

@emperor 10:51 Dude get your facts straight. Sherman coached the Packers from 2000 to 2005, which is the year Rodgers got drafted. Philbin started with GB on '03....Maybe you should redo your argument as Philbin is the one that was a part of Rodgers development all along

We could use a Dez Bryant badly. But he wont play for the Dolphins unless Ireland is long gone. Its really a shame how Ireland burnt that bridge.

BaskinRobin,

From the limit of your vocabulary it seems that you were unable to finish the 3rd grade. No doubt you work for Baskin Robins as a career server!

Arturo,

You need to read my entire response. I was responding to a comment which stated that Philbin had a positive impact in Farves career.

Regardless, I don't understand what some fans are excited about with Philbin. 0-3 in pre season is not a big deal but what is important is how they are playing

vontae davis was drafted No. 27, Yesterday's Gone, but the Dolphins passed on Hakeem Nicks and Clay Matthews as a result.

Both positions were a need then. Both are a need now.

So give me a break with your spining this crap sandwich and telling everyone it's a steak.

Ireland--

The circus called, they want their clown back!!!

Hey guys. I'm a Dolphin fan that has been negative on this team for a number of years. And I've been right. I've been called a troll on occassion but so what. I've been right as the team has sank into oblivion.

Anyway, I am now leaving as I have given up any hope for this franchise. I just dont care anymore. Too much aggravation and no fun being a fan of this team. Take care guys.

..To be fair..Philbin was an assistant offensive line coach, in his early days with the Packers..Then the tight end coach, then the offensive line coach..Then the offensive coordinator..I'm not positive if he was even the later for more then a year..I'm not sure he would take the credit for developing QB Rodgers if you were to ask him..I like Philbin.I think he has done the right things under difficult circumstances...

If it makes you feel better to know that at least he was a part of those Packer offenses take it. At this point that doesn't matter. He runs the team the way he sees fit. It is apparant that he is a guy that detail reigns supreme. If you are a player that cannot get on board with that...Take your talents elsewhwere.

As I mentioned earlier. Because he is the new guy here. He gets a pass as far as the personel decisions. He isn't going anywhere, so those who find these moves questionable will have to live with them. Like YG said, and I whleheartedly agree. We are rebuilding. Doubtful that we use any of these aquired picks for anything except our own draft. We may have to deal with a pitiful season. another year of wait until next year..We will see if times get tight, and Philbins butt is on the line if he rules with an iron fist or not. At this point, as hard as it may be...We have to see how this story plays out. I'm sure many are ready to write the ending. I'm sure there will be some plot twists along the way.

Did the Jets Score a TD?

Will the Jets Score a TD?

Yea, they aren't even doing that genius.

..Dashi...It was like dejavu watching their offense tonight. Get rolling stall with an inside run..3rd and long, field goal..The king of the 3 point attempt has his hands all over that pathetic offense..It is kind of hard to take much enjoyment knowing they will suck because our team doesn't look much better(to be honest)..They did the whole division a favor by hiring Sparano.

Also @11:45 and 11:48

U will never leave!! It would be the greatest day in history, BUT NO U Partner will never leave here.

The Dolphins didnt score a TD.

Oh, No Doubt DD.

Yes, This season is going to be hard for A Dolphin Fan(Oscar might like that). But Dashi feels this season might be more enjoyable than the 1-15 campaign.

The JETS look Horrendous. What Crack was Rex Smoking hiring Sporano? Didn't he have Tom Moore as a Consultant? Why not let Tom F'n Moore decide who ur next OC will be?

The Dolphins are bad but Dashi still feels the Fins are the 2nd best team in the Division. Buffalo is not that Good. Fitzpatrick is way OVERRATED.

Only real question we have are Wr's? Dashi has been looking for Recommendations but Nobody of Value has been cut.

Dashi heard Green Bay actually has some Wr's they are going to Cut because of their Depth(GB supposedly has 6 or 7 good WR's on the roster). But GB is going to wait for Final Cuts. To Try and Stash them on their Practice Squad.

..My apoligies..I wiki'd Philbin..Says he was the oc from 2007 to 2011..4 years the other stuff he did as well. Looks like he may have had more influence on QB Rodgers then I thought..

How that translates or if it does to this team is yet to be seen. I guess that his experiences as a coach, and coordinator was his own blueprint for how he will run this team..

The Dolphins Didn't Score A TD last Game. Fasano dropped it.

Moore hasn't scored a Td all PreSeason.

T-Hill has scored Multiple Td's and has had Multiple TD Drives this Preseason.

Heck Vontae almost scored More TD's than the Jets, Last Game and the Dolphins Traded him.

Darryl Dunphy,

Wiki Philbin in January and you will find him as Miami's former head coach and seeking employment for the circus as a clown.

He will lead the Dolphins to 4-12 season and finish fired.

4-12, Won't get Philbin FIRED

1-15 or 2-14 Might

The Expectations are Low. What Matters is That T-Hill Develops. Hopefully we can find 1 or 2 More Wr's other than Bess and Flatline.

T-Hill and Martin are The 2 most Important pieces to this years purpose.

Followed by the Secondary. If Coyle wants to keep his job, Dashi better see the Secondary play better this Year! I don't Care if Vontae is not on the Team. Coyle had to have some influence in that Decision? Time to Step Up.

The Defense played better last game, hopefully they play even better in the Regular Season. If Vontae got Cut, Why can't Misi get Cut?

Yes, Vontae got cut. He got traded because he didn't fit what the Miami Dolphins are trying to do. They want a Defense that Doesn't Act, but instead actually does play all-out all the time.

What is the franchise record for the most points allowed and the least points scored?
If I were Tannehill I would get more health insurance and Ireland should make sure that the compromising pictures are in a safe place.

This team is an embarrassment.

Jets, ZERO TDs in three preseason games.LMAOROTF
Two of the worse statitacal QBs dueling it out with OC Sporono Holding the blank bullets.
This one will likely get the Fat Rex fired.

To Anybody:
The QB that was the frontrunner in that competition slipped in his pool and broke his knee. A very high profile Player of ours was arrested and later cut. 2 of our very best LB's have barely played in the pre-Season. And our best corner has been traded to Indy.
Can anybody be so kind as to explain to me wth is going on?
Thanks.

And you are telling me now that Marx was right and that the great Kapitals will all fall down? Yes. And you are also telling me now that those stories in the Bible that we have believed in are just that, stories? Yes. Get outta heerrrr...

You know, if you look at it closely, all Teams are in a continuos rebuild, just as Us with our-Selves are, only some more than others.

I missed the u, continuous. Sorry(I knew there was something amiss).

Where are all the men Tonight?

Ha!

Pour, some sugar, On me. In the name(Of love).

Now I know you are awake, Armando.

My thing about $ fully woke you up? Don't worry, you are nothing in the Spectrum of Things.
