It is the Miami Dolphins versus Tampa Bay.
No David Garrard (check the previous entries). No Clyde Gates or Brian Hartline, either.
So what to expect?
Vontae Davis is not starting despite the insistence of some in the media that he has not been demoted -- at least temporarily.
Matt Moore will start and is expected to get 15 plays or so. I expect Ryan Tannehill will follow and actually get work with the starters. This is a competition he's legitimately in, folks. He has a chance to win the starting job if he's better than Moore because Garrard has been all but eliminated from the quarterback competition.
Interesting only to me: This Garrard injury raises questions. what the heck is the deal when a guy who has "loose bodies" on his knee, as the quarterback told Fox's Jay Glazer, is able to practice for three weeks with no issues?
And if he had those issues, how did he pass the team's physical?
I smell something here. And it ain't roses.
Anyway, live blog tonight. Meet me in the comments section.

Don't think we'll see much of our starters in PS Game 1.
It's audition night for a lot of players.
Nonetheless.....
Go Dolphins!
Beat the Yuckaneers!

anyone know where the game is streaming for free online?

fin4 and his bf are quoting articles from two years ago, I'm quoting sources from two weeks ago and two days ago.
1. PFT reporting that Dawn Aponte insisting on certain language: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/07/19/dolphins-digging-in-on-offset-language/
2. On Hard Knocks two days ago, who called the Head Coach to inform him of the status of Tannehillls contract?
a. Humpty Dumpty
b. Mickey Mouse
c. Dawn Aponte
We heard it live, we saw it in print, and yet you two can't get over you were wrong. Making stuff up won't help. I never said she was the final word, I only said she was involved in part of it and it wasn't right to blame JI for everything.
fin4, you are a sorry individual if can't see your boy odin uses an infinite amount of names here and is the number one source of blog pollution. If you think he just has two or three names you are mistaken...so before you start making false assumptions on others, maybe you should focus on how many names your boytoy has.
Poossies can't admit when they are wrong and those two prove it time and again :)

Hi Armando.
How far do you really think is Tannehill from Garrard(if healty)
Posted by: adrian solorza | August 10, 2012 at 07:20 PM
Armando there doesn't have to be a conspiracy here. Loose bodies are common in an aged athlete. They may not present a problem for some time and then suddenly become impinged, creating pain and inflamation that may have not been there before. Ultimately, they are indicative of some sort of arthritic condition, but it isn't necessarily advanced. Calm down.

Armando,
Neither you or I are doctors. I am sure there are lots of guys in the NFl that have 'floating things' in their knee or elbows. It's not considered serious. I have friends who were ex-athletes who will never be 100 per cent again because of things like this. I'm no expert on the subject but I don't believe something like this would prevent a guy from passing a physical. Guys are forever having minor procedures done.

Been a while Mando your vacation scared me, thought the blog maybe dead, have a ? not related to Football but your answer would be appreciated. There was a post about Miami only having 480K residents and while maybe true of the City itself the poster is missing Dade, Hialeah, Homestead, Doral, Cutlar Bay, North Bay Village ect.. were I read with the growth of Doral were actually closer to 5 Mil these days.
Posted by: fin4life | August 10, 2012 at 07:22 PM
Where's all the guys who had already annointed Garrard the starter? Come on, show your ugly mugs on here!
Posted by: Craig M | August 10, 2012 at 07:15 PM
This is coming from the very same turd that spent a whole season mocking Belichek for signing Chad Johnson, but then when we sign him he says he is ok with it.
What a flip head.
Posted by: Huh? | August 10, 2012 at 07:22 PM
Jonathan, loose bodies would show up on an MRI, which one assumes is part of a team's physical when a player signs or at the start of camp.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | August 10, 2012 at 07:22 PM
Mando, great to have the live blog again. Really miss the morning show too. Maybe you can get a weekly podcast going? But on a scale of 1 to 10 how impressed have you been with tannehill? and what concerns you the most about this team?

Anyon have a live stream I can access for this game?

..Whats up Armando..How has your summer been?
Craig M...I hear you. I tried to make the point this morning that we shouldn't try and make to much of what happens tonight. This of course will not happen, and if folks feel the need to be overly critical, or hyper excited from tonights contest. That is up to them. I just hope should Tannehill have a rough go that folks ease up..It doesn't mean the pick was a mistake. Opposite..If he plays great(which I hope he does) It doesn't mean he will have an easy transition and is ready to burn up the league..Either way. I'm sure there will be the natural overreaction either way.

fin4life,
That post was from me. I was talking about the city of Miami itself, not the surrounding areas. I'll wait for YG to catch up.

Is Chad Johnson the number one WR on Sept 9th if he can keep from acting a fool off the field?

Armando, I am putting you in charge of keeping Chad Ocho...er Johnson in line tonight.
Think you can take care of that for us?

Garrard was damaged goods all along.

They don't send a player for a MRI unless they have a reason, past knee issue for example. So calm down with the woodward and bernstein nonsense.
Posted by: Mitch | August 10, 2012 at 07:28 PM
fin4life, the city of Miami is incorporated and is actually not all that large. But ...
Greater Miami-Dade County, which most people here consider to be Miami and its burbs boasts about 2 million people.
And there are approximately 5 million in South Florida -- Dade, Broward, Palm Beach.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | August 10, 2012 at 07:28 PM
We didn't make it to the 1st preseason game an we have a Ryan Mallet sighting. For all those PO'd we passed on Mallet why are you still upset? Tannehill > Mallet (as a prospect and without the drug problems)
Posted by: MiamiD20 | August 10, 2012 at 07:29 PM
Huh?
I'm a fliphead but you can't even use your actual name.....that figures.
Where did I say anything positive about the Johnson move? I happen to think he's better than what he showed with the Pats last year but by no means do I feel he's the answer.

HERE IT CLEARLY STATES THE OFFSET LANGUAGE WAS DONE BY IRELAND IN A HOST OF DEALS AND WAS HIS IDEA GOING BACK TO 201O, PLEASE READ AND DROP IT YOUR TAUNTS ARE LAME!
According to a Palm Beach Post blog entry from Ben Volin, the Dolphins were not playing hard ball with Tannehill because he is a rookie. The Dolphins were insisting on the offset language because they have had it in every free agent and rookie contract since 2010 - including players like Brandon Marshall, Reggie Bush, and Matt Moore. The team began including it in the 2010 season, with only linebacker Karlos Dansby being signed without it.
General Manager Jeff Ireland claimed control of the team's personnel moves in 2010, when former vice president of football operations Bill Parcells changed his role into "consultant" instead of the man with the final say. Ireland includes the offset language in an attempt to limit the "dead" money the team would have against the salary cap if they were to release a player, allowing the Dolphins to have more room to operate and find new players if needed.

Thanks Armando. I was just reading what was on Wikipedia. Never make sense to me that Miami was only that size. That was a surprise.
Posted by: Craig M | August 10, 2012 at 07:31 PM
Mitch, first off, the loss of the starting quarterback on the day the preseason begins is not nonsense to me. It is serious business.
Secondly, David Garrard is a pleyr who missed all of last season with a back injury and is a long-time vet. It is routine for a team to conduct a FULL physical of such a player and even when that does not include an MRI it does include a questionnaire asking if he's had any issues on his knees, elbows, shoulders, etc that the team should be aware of.

The only guy I'm disappointed that's not playing tonight is Thigpen. I enjoyed watching this guy in Canada and I'm intrigued what he might bring to the return game. Any idea how serious the injury is Armando?

Armando,
Your suggestion that 'something smells', are you suggesting that maybe Garrard kept some things from the Dolphins? Are you suggesting that the Dophins might try and void his contract?
Posted by: Craig M | August 10, 2012 at 07:35 PM
Thanks Mando!
