Post-mortem after 2nd loss in 2nd preseason game

Worried about the Dolphins?

Well, it is not exactly time to push panic buttons. But it is time to identify where such buttons are located because another month of this stuff is going to be bad.

"We know we're better than what we've showed," Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore said after last night's 23-17 loss to Carolina, a game which wasn't as close as the score because the Panthers totally outplayed the Dolphins early when the starters were in the game.

"Yeah, we should be a little concerned."

This was a game that was supposed to give clarity to the Dolphins quarterback competition. It didn't. Coach Joe Philbin was asked if he'll be able to go through with his plan of naming a starter for next week and he seemed at a loss for an answer.

"I don't know that to be honest with you," he said. "I really don't."

Nobody was happy with their work. Ryan Tannehill wasn't.

"Obviously, it didn't go the way I wanted it to go but I was excited to ge out there, compete with the guys and I think it's a starting point," he said.

True.

This also is true: As I wrote in my column Tannehill didn't get much help from anyone. Moore, meanwhile, failed to step up when he had the chance.

"We got a lot of work to do," Moore said. "You have to credit Carolina, they came out and played well. But we have a lot of stuff to work on."

The Dolphins ran the ball 12 times for 37 yards Friday night. Yet Philbin wasn't all that concerned about it. He said it has not been a point of emphasis. That's good. But maybe the Dolphins should start emphasizing it a bit.

Because the regular season is coming.

Check out Tannehill below in part of his post-game talk:

Ireland is a GM. To date, two extremely wealthy NFL team owners have chosen to pay him a handsome salary for his services. You can be sure Ireland will be a GM in this league for years to come

Observation | August 18, 2012 at 06:32 PM

Your INCORRECT !! Ireland was the Scouting Director of the Dallas Cowboys when Parcells lured him to Miami as his G.M. (He wasn't hired by Huzienga or Ross) J.Jones was asked about Ireland and he said, "Good College scout" At the time I thought it was just Jerry being Jerry after all he is the Cowboys G.M. and V.P. of Ops ect.. So Jerry didn't hire him as G.M. either, so much for your post although I believe Parcells is 7 figures wealthy he's not a billionare team owner.

I now see Jerry's point about Ireland though! Ireland was and is a Parcells disciple with an indoctrination in the Holy Grail of cloud of dust 80's Football. He is a good scout who will find an obscure talent like Romo, M.Austin, C.Wake and D.Bess but there is an enormous difference between being a scout and having the responsibility of building a franchise from the ground up. The Dolphins on his watch seem an incomplete team stocked at some spots and completely bare at others.

martin looks so bad

Yeah, I know it's Saturday but I have nothing to do. You pay attention now, ya hear.

finlife

What exactly was INCORRECT about his statement? He never said Ireland was a GM at Dallas.

People tend to read little and comprehend less.

I'm peeing myself watching the Jets offense. Ok, who's this sound like:

- 2 up-the-middle runs on 3rd and 4th (turnover on downs)
- timeout coming out of a timeout
- 0 points in the 1st half
- Pick 6 by opposing team (on a pass to Patrick Turner)
- Looking to go deep but opting for a dumpoff to the outlet

The Miami Dolphins during the Sparano era.

Enjoy New York! Start "spreadin' the news!"

The Dolphins are exactly what I said when they dumped Sporano and Henne. This is now year one of the "new" 5 year rebuilding plan. So quit ur bitchin and accept what ya'll wanted. No matter who came in, this is what was gonna happen. Start TanneHill and let Philbin do his thing. Six wins at best.

Me first, then the Others. No more sacrificial Lambs. Fuc- them.

@DC Dolfan

Has Tony called for the punt inside the 35, down by 10 points, with 3 minutes left in the game?

I recall that being a defining moment in my hatred for Tony Suckrano.

I'm peeing myself

PS..it has to be 4th and inches also.

Jack, yes, right before the half.

Ireland was a great scout for the Cowboys. His Miami career has been less impressive for a number of reasons. We'll have to see how things unfold, but if he lands a franchise QB, then a lot of his mistakes will be erased. You can't win SBs in today's NFL without an elite franchise QB at the helm. Tannehill will ultimately decide how successful Ireland will be in Miami.

This also is true: As I wrote in my column Tannehill didn't get much help from anyone. Moore, meanwhile, failed to step up when he had the chance.

==================================================

Question Mando,

Let's say it was Drew Brees or Tom Brady running our offense last night. With all things being equal.

Would they need help or would they just get it done? With no excuses whatsoever?

If Ryan is the GOLDEN BOY and FUTURE HALL OF FAMER, at some point he needs to put the team on his shoulders. Not the team putting him on their shoulders.

I am beginning to believe that just by having Philbin on our side now we can be better than 6-10.

Heck, I never get help at work. Yet, I still do my job without excuses.

Not sure this helps, but Sanchez was sacked 3 times, and the Jets can't get out of their own way against the Giants.
Thanks Tony Sparano for perhaps giving the Fins a chance to finish 3rd in the division. The Jets look eerily like the Sparano era Fins. Dink and dunk, run on 1st and 2nd down.
As per Sparano, the O-Line is HORRIBLE.

What Team, JackSparrow?

Mando...another question.

So exactly how much of last nights performance was all on Tannehill?

0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, other?

Knowing the homers on here it was probably negative 1000%.

There is lots of work ahead to make this Team, a Team. Those that are not willing to work hard towards that purpose, will be thrown by the wayside.

I think the few posters faking support for Ireland are Jet fans infiltrating our blog.

Get used to this type of result, Tannehill will be running for his life most of the season trying not to get hurt. It falls on the GM for once again not putting together a team that can win games. We have no wide receivers, our TEs can't block and can't get open when going out to get a pass. The OL is like it has been the last ten years, a mess, with no hope in sight. Reggie Bush can make the most of small holes and get some yards but can't take on the whole defense. Our QBs are set up to fail without any offensive weapons.

Defensively our linebackers are pathetic overpaid players or busts from the draft that have no upside. Defensive line is ok at stopping the run, but they have no pass rush, and with no pass rush out secondary gets worn out and beat deep consistently.

Until they fire Ireland Miami will never have a winning season. Another 6-10 year at best. There is hope for the future with Tannehill but I expect him to get injured by midseason after taking so many hits every game.

hehehe

Tannehill= another Ireland bust

Yes, I know I'm annoying but Truthful.

Nothing worst for most People than to be shown the Truth.

hehehe

Put your self at the top of your list of those who read little and comprehend less! The post @6:32 which I reposted part of @8:23 clearly states Ireland is a G.M. who was hired by TWO billionaires for his services and will be a G.M. for a long time in the NFL. I'll bet your S.A.T. reading comprehension scores were among the lowest bracket Nationally if you understood something to the contrary.

The Truth admits no arguments(again).

Da Beast has 2 catches for 61 yds in the 1st quarter!!

You have no chance.

We re-state the obvious because many People don't want to admit the obvious.

it's nice when the miami heralds articles match the fans assessments, nice, but NOT good. i guess if you wanted to put a positive spin on this game you would have to go in to the fourth quarter where a boring miami team gained a new and esciting identitythat will only be hidden by our underachieving starters. that identity was an offensive face lift in the reciever corps as mathews flashed a tough guy image(in the likes of steve smith) that appeared out of place and only seen on teams like carolina and pittsburgh, then chris hogan showed up and i had a camarillo flashback, and then EGNEW, even though he dropped the only pass thrown his way, has the look of a huge weopon. these three guys give the miami offense an entirely different look, one that we will NOT be able to enjoy as it would be next impossible to justify. nonetheless, in my opinion, these guys WERE the bright spot in this saddening display which saw tannehill maybe even take a step back. if miami is to latch on to anything that could resemble good news this preseason, it will have to create it, and by that i mean, force EGNEW into becoming that HUGE(shockey like) weopon. feed him the ball as much as possible in these last two games, and make him the big scary weopon that teams need to defend, heck, even if he can't catch(and we all know he can) he would start for me all season long, even if his only role was to be the decoy.

By the way fact checker.

Ireland wasn't hired by the 2 Billionaire owners in Miami either he was hired by his Messiah Fats Tuna!!!

I will proceed to play some Oscar Peterson on my Pandora radio, then go to sleep(I worked very hard today, as always).

Like I've said before Dashi is an Autistic Quadriplegic and a Little Slo'. Plus it's Illegal to play that Sissified Sport U just Mention in Dashi Republic. They will ban u From the Mainland and the Islands.

Dashi's Opinion Doesn't Matter

So Why U Hot?

Wasn't Ireland the Assistaant GM before he left Dallas?

Jerry Jones is the Gm, President, CEO, COO, and Owner of the Establishment. Oh, Yeah he also has Dawn Aponte's Job.

I believe it will take at least 3 years to make the Playoff's. THink About It. Please, Don't let me explain it a Again like the 57+ draft picks the Patriots have had the Last 4 years and manage to get less Then Fireland. Booty Bandit can't even get 2 picks right in the same draft.

With T-hill

4-12 to 7-9

With Matt <

0-16 or 1-15 = Don't let history repeat itself.

Well, it is not exactly time to push panic buttons.

I'm agree, two preseason games say nothing

I hate to break it to you, but the original statement is true. Ireland is a GM who was hired by two very wealthy people. That statement doesn't say he was a GM in both places, it says Ireland is a GM, and he is a GM, and he was hired by two wealthy people for his services. All true.

You are obviously a minority who does not yet understand the subtleties of the English language.

I know my post is late, but is anybody aware that we are not going to show our defensive schemes to the other teams yet? That we had several key defensive starters out?

The Bucs and Panthers were in the same boat. DUUUHH!

Whats new @ 9:12

Perfectly said!

Thanks....

I agree the team will stink as long as Ireland is GM.

Why not start T-hill at WR?

Ireland got his racist reputation for a reason. Where theres smoke theres fire. He's a good ole boy.

it is sad realy sad, but let's give the benefit of the doubt until season.

gonna get ugly for jets, ryan will be fired after season and spranao will be fired by new coach

The Evan williams is done.
The Blueberry b ullshit is gone.
Open the 12 pack of Miller High Life!

And Why Not Start that 105 year Old Hag of Urs in My next sex tape.

U know the 1. With the Whole Blog On Her. MoneyShot!!

Let Her Drench in it for A Minute before u Clean her up.
-------------------------------------------------------
Agreed Ross and Ireland Look like Clowns. Doink and Dufus

But Ireland has this team built for a run next year. All this dead money comes off the books. T-Hill and Philbin will be in their 2nd year. Misi will be gone. Flatline will too. The Fins will have a Ton of Cap Space and their future Set.

Now, U want the whole FanBase to turn on U!!!!!!!!!!!!

Start M< and Jeff Ross will definitely look like a clown

You are obviously a minority who does not yet understand the subtleties of the English language.

What else is new? | August 18, 2012 at 09:12 PM

I'll toss your racist remark aside and humor your latest attempt at taking part of a remark to suit your point of view.

The post was in response to another post and the poster (probably you) who referred to himself as "the observation" said Ireland was,has been and will be a G.M. in the NFL, period, reread numbnut!

I simply corrected him with the facts which are, he was picked up by Parcells off Herm Edwards K.C. team were he was an obscure scout and hired in Dallas were he elevated to Director of Scouting.

Parcells displeased with his Owner/VP/G.M. left and in 08 became Fins czar were he hired himself a G.M. in title alone to run his scouting dept. before the mirage known as the miracle 2008 Season lent him weight with new team owner Ross in 09 to keep Ireland.

At NO time has any Billionaire owner actually hired Ireland, FACT!! He was an apprentice scout (dime a dozen) who made some nice moves under Edwards that Parcells picked up through the grape vine.

You and your Sister/wife inbred down South backward A S S hillbillies need to learn to comprehend what they read be sure of facts and learn a lesson or two in manners for future reference!

Dashi you moron!!!!!!Its always NEXT YEAR! LMFAO!!!!!!!!

Dude I'm going to honor you once and only this once:

You find the positive no matter you are dealt, you make lemonade out of lemons every f ucking day.
God Bless You!

Losers always say Next Year. Winners say the future IS now.

At NO time has any Billionaire owner actually hired Ireland, FACT!!

Fact Checker disagrees. Who paid Ireland's salary in Dallas? Jerry Jones.

Who pays (paid) Ireland's salary in Miami? Wayne, Ross.

So really that is THREE very wealthy people that have paid him for his services. One paid him as a scout, and TWO have paid him as a GM.

You are going to have to bite the bullet on this one. No way out for you here.

p.s. ESL is cheap.

It just occurred to me!
WOW!
How talented a poster must be to post in here 24/7; UNDER DOZENS OF DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES!!!

Odin : I salute You!

Huizenga hired Cameron.

Fact Checker,
They never personally hired Ireland. They never made that decision because they trusted the Tuna to make that decision.
After Tuna was fired Ross decided he liked the feel of Ireland's tongue in his a sshole and just rolled with it.

Dashi
Tannehill and Moore won't succeed because no WR for them to succeed! C'MON. MAN. Look at Cincy. And 18 Green and TE Good OL. That's what you need to have success at least a elite receiver and a elite TE. And decent OL. I think Tannehill has potential but you can't get bring out that potential out of Tanny. With out those three areas improved. So this year no matter what it's going to be pain full to watch because we love our PHINS, and it hurts to see them lose! But I be watching and pouting all year long!

Fact Checker disagrees. Who paid Ireland's salary in Dallas? Jerry Jones.

Who pays (paid) Ireland's salary in Miami? Wayne, Ross.

The KEY word here is hired, moron!

As I said and will repeat for you so get the ADD under control. He was paid by 3 organizations in some capacity which has it's checks paid probably by a F.O. person being I doubt the owner signs every check but your argument stated HE WAS HIRED BY THESE MEN!

Am I the only one missing something here?? The difference between being hired by an owner to be a team G.M. WHICH HE HASN'T and being paid by an organization as you state now to suit yet another feeble attempt to weasel your way out of your original statement.

You were saying about biting bullets ??

It's not always next year. It could've been this year if garrard was better than T-Hill.

Last year was Tony's big bang.

Reset the clock for Philbin. (Yeah it's been painful since the day that will live in infamy. But grow up)

I would rather go 3-13 this year and get better each coming year. Than go 11-5 ruin the cap for the future with Fa's and the team still isn't consistently good 4 years later.

This team isn't as bad as it looks right now. And it has shown improvement every week. Except Martin. It could be ur sliding to a different side, but Philbin said it before it's football, it's a game, it's not that hard to switch sides.

Many years ago I worked for Hewlett Packard. HP hired me. Did the CEO hire me? No. The board of directors? No. Some general manager way, way down the line hired me, but still, it was the HP company that hired me.

Regardless of who brought Ireland in, it was the Dallas Cowboys organization and the Miami Dolphins organization which have been in full 100% control of Jerry Jones, Wayne H. and Ross.

Parse words all you want. Ireland is a GM. Fact. 3 different owners have paid him a nice salary for his services. Fact.

I'll place my money he will be a GM for many years to come. Fact to be.

ESL is free in some places, check it out.

I like everybody. The problem this country has is that we have just so many minorities with limited English skills. They are easily fooled and manipulated by the media, as many natural born Americans are. Many of them vote. Few of them realize that any of the ones they vote for are against the general public. Few of them realize, as aptly demonstrated by Foreigner4Life, that they sufficiently understand the subtleties of the language enough to understand who is fooling them and who isn't.

Politics aside.
