Audio and visual edition of Thursday camp update

Rookie qarterback Ryan Tannehill got his opportunity to take a few snaps with the first-team offense today, marking the first time he's done so as a profressional.

He didn't seem overmatched. But neither did he look like the second-coming of Dan Marino. It was simply snaps in a practice in which Tannehill did some things well and some not so well. He had, for instance, a fine pass to Chad Johnson on an in-cut on a play that Johnson beat cornerback Jonathan Wade.

Tannehill also had first-down completions to Davone Bess and Marlon Moore.

All this was done as the Dolphins defense was installing the Bear or 46 front today, meaning they had lots of personnel at the line of scrimmage and they were attacking.

“It was good," Tannehill said. "I think I have a lot of things to learn from the tape, but it was good to get in there (and) see the first defense, see the different things that they bring as opposed to on the other end. (I) definitely have some things to work on, but I think it was a good start.”

Coach Joe Philbin said Tannehill "earned" his first-team snaps by throwing the ball well his first few days at practice. Tannehill split the first-team snaps with Matt Moore.

Watch other parts of the Tannehill interview below to get his reaction to how he did.

It was an interesting day for some Dolphins receivers today. In the Salguero dictionary, interesting can mean inconsistent.

Roberto Wallace, who finished Wednesday's practice with a 79-yard TD pass along the right sideline, started today's work on the field with a practicially identical play.

But ...

Then he dropped an easy deep pass later in practice that went through his hands, down his body and onto the ground. And He also dropped a slant pattern pass in traffic. If Wallace is going to take that next step from project and potential to production, he's got to catch those passes.

Chad Johnson had the catch of the day when a pass was underthrown and he stopped and dove back in front of a defender who expected to make a play on the ball. Johnson snatched the ball out of the air as he dove and foiled the turnover as well -- two negatives turned into a positive for the offense.

Afterward, by the way, receivers are trying to improve their catching skills. Ladies and gentlemen, Marlon Moore:

There was good news and bad news today. The bad news is receivers Brian Hartline (calf) and Clyde Gates (hamstring) missed another day of work. Hartline has practiced only two times this training camp. Gates has missed this entire week.

My opinion? Jake Long delivered the best news of the day today.

As you know, the Dolphins have shifted to a zone blocking scheme this season from the downhill power blocking team of the past few years. Long said he "loves" that. He said it is what Michigan did his final two seasons there and he believes it gives him the opportunity to use his altheticism.

"You get to run and get on guys and finish 'em and take them wherever they want to go," Long said.

That's good.

This is even better: Long said he is the "healthiest I've been in a long time." He added that it has been at least three years since he's been this healthy.

Tannehill will be the best QB on the roster soon. Let him learn a while, and it will pay dividends

Things we're hearing about Tannehill seem pretty normal for a 1st rd drafted qb. Both the good and not so good. even the not so good is perfectly normal for rookie qb of his pedigree.

Relax guys, this guys sounds eons away to being the next "Pat White". That in itself is simply astounding news.

The SS beat writers are garbage except for Dave Hyde.

Tannehill = Henne 2.0

You also can bet that Tanne-H,occasionally, will play out of position.

Whoever loses the QB starting job between Garrard & Moore will be cut.
The winner starts week one...Tanny is B/U and Devlin stays #3.

Then, when the starter begins to falter,(which you know they will) Ryan has got a few weeks under his belt to step in and start the Tannehill era!

For me Tannehill is the second coming of Steve Young, (not Marino, because of the style, not so accurate, not so leader, etc.) I understand that Tannehill is taking one step back and tree steps forward, one step back, tree forward and so on, he is showing a steady improvement. My concern is Matt Moore, he is not showing what is capable to do yet, and for me he deserves to open the season with the first team, for what he do the last season, but if he not improve, he will drop to the 3rd string.

I use my GPS. to find my way home!! I told I'm stupid!! But I know one thing Dallas cowboys owner if he saids i want this player to play that's how it is, so no I disagree with you the owner can do what ever he wants, we both don't know if it's possible or not really what we know! We all idiots compare to those guys!!

Yeah, adrian, but let Moore open the Season, on another Team.

fins doing it right. garrard will start while tanny learns. moore will abckup someplace else

If Tann is as good as Griese, he can deliver some championships. He doesn't need to be a Marino, who by the way was sadly only in one SB. From the little evidence I've seen Tann looks a very smart kid. That is sometimes more important than being hypergifted, like other QB's.
Of course, Shula is the man who makes the big difference here, and Philbin is light years from him. Moreover, Ireland is a nuisance to this organization.
To really assess Tann we need a good receiving corps, which the Dolphins don't have.
I hope that next year the Dolphins address this issue and look to have the best WR's available. Enough of OL men, RB's and DE's. Focus on good WR's, safeties and LB's.

For those that are covering up about T-Hill and Ireland, and we know who you are, there's lots of Crow coming your way, so much so, that you will never again be comfortable being a Miami Dolphins Fan, even if a fair-weather one.

For me Tannehill is the second coming of John Beck, lots of potential but not quick enough for the NFL. I see him struggling for a couple of years and then becoming a journeyman backup.

hope your wrong ray. if fins do it right and let him sit back and watch and learn this year then he can become solid

I am pretty sure that by mid-point in the Season, half of the regular Bloggers here won't be around.

But, of course, they will then say, I was only kidding about Tannehill and Ireland. Right?

Many new nicks will come. It was written. heheh

OSCAR.......... THE DOLPHIN'S QB ISSUE IS ALIVE BASED ON HAVING 2 LOUSY QB AND A NEW BUST @ NO 8 .......

ALL IN ALL....TRASH,PLUSS...
GATES THE BUST..

CLAY.... THE BUST......

D.THOMAS THE FAMOUS BUST ...

why not

gates, clay, thomas awful picks. but not busts, they werent first rd picks, but yes ireland sucks

Oscar,

Nicks is on the NY Giants.

Thomas and Clay busts?????

Lay off the hard stuff. Thomas was disappointing, but Clay is promising, he did good things last year. Thomas had a bad leg last year. He should be healthy and productive this year

Hahahaha
Thanks for the replay Oscar, and you are right, this is business.

Ha!, I got to you. But it is true, you cannot remain on the fence any more, on Internet, and you should reveal your true feelings, at least in these kind of Social Media. Nobody else will harm you except yourselves.

Tannehill got into camp a little late and missed about 100 slides? Whatever the hell that meant.

Anyway, the thing to focus on is that Philbin said Tannehill **EARNED** some first team reps. And I agree, from the reports, he did pretty good coming in.

But really, in a nut shell, that's about it. Take it for what it's worth, read a bunch into it. Whatever you like.

But you can't rail on the Kid. Not at this point. He's come in an earned some snaps with the Big Boys!

Go Team!

True, odin.

Hate is the worst emotion that a Human being could possess.

LOVE IS EVERY THING WHEN YOU BELIEVE IN IT.......

TO BE
OR NOT
TO BE /////////////////MY OWN QUOTE ,,,,,

I LOVE ,WHEN OSCAR LIFT QUOTES FROM OTHER PLACES AND PRETEND TO BE HIS OWN .........

Tannehill is our franchise QB for the next decade and beyond . . . .

Incendiary quote

ALoco's name should be Oscar, because his attitude belongs in the trash can. Hehehehe

Sparini and Tebowini are going to pummel us twice. Belicheck to. We split with Buffalo. So 1 for 5 in the division does not equal playoffs.

Forget Moore/Garrard, start Tannehill and get the raw out of him

John Fox is the coach of Denver, not Del Rio.

I always thought Henne's helmet was too small and too tight

I always thought cotton was pure white but it is actually an off white.

To Yesterday's Gone: According to Don Shula and Bob Kuechenberg, Dan Marino's first Miami Dolphins practice was spectacular, indeed eye-popping.

Not to say that Mr. Tannehill should be compared to Marino at this or any other point.

SS,

With David WOOdley as your starting qb, it didnt take much for a rookie Marino to look "eye popping".

ALoco,

How many games will the garage mechanic win this year? Also would the garage mechanic do a better job if he ate grass fed beef, clean chicken, amazing seafood and pastas?

This is Ray from Orlando!!

How dare you delete my post! For shame! The impostor remains while you punish me. Have you gone mad????

YG...,

WHY WOULD YOU GET MAD B/C ARMANDO DELETED FEW POSTS..........

IT'S ALL SALSA .......

Let Tannehill sit and learn this entire year. That's the ideal situation. He can realistically challenge for the job next year and probably win it. This could be a very positive year for him by sitting and learning.

Victor Cruz knows how to salsa.

Who is going to be our Victor Cruz?

If Tanny doesnt make it at QB he can probably play some WR. In fact I wouldnt be shocked if he played a little WR this year.

Be shocked Monte. Ain't happening

Monte,
I can see a trick play where Tanehill pitches to Moore and goes out for a pass.

Burger,

I can see that too, once or twice. That's not playing WR though. That's playing QB, and catching a pass.

It is possible that Moore is the best QB on the roster and Tannehill is the best WR on the roster.

Only if TS was the coach we see tannehill playing WR!!! HAHAHAHA

What about use T-Hill as a wildcat qb? Use him in the spread option for a couple plays. Like tony will use tebow.

Oh that's right we want to make him a QB not a gimmick. The Jets should move tebow to Wr. They need the help.

T-Hill has to be the 3rd most athletic qb to come out of college in the last couple years. Only cam and RG3 have better athleticism. He just needs to get the speed of the game down.

Is Matt Flynn half the athlete T-Sizzle is?

Victor Cruz was unstoppable during camp. Even a blind man could tell he would be great.
We have no Cruz, unless it's Cunningham.
