The reaction following 30-13 loss to Dallas

Some reactions from Wednesday night's press conferences and open locker room session following the fourth loss in four tries this preseason -- this time a 30-13 loss to Dallas ...

Joe Philbin was realistic about how bad his team looked in this game:

"That's unacceptable," he said. "Poorly coached game. We didn't play well. We had a lot of penatlties. We had 12 men on the field. We didn't tackle well. We didn't score touchdowns. You guys saw the same game I did, it was not a good football game, not a good performance by our team. I'm the head coach of the team and that's a poor job by me getting them ready. That's the facts."

Philbin is worried that the team he sees in practice does not show up for games -- any games so far this preseason.

"Am I concerned? Yeah," Philbin said. "The confidence I gain is when I watch guys practice and perform well. We've been a good team in practice  but we haven't transfered that to the game on a consistent basis and that's a concern, absolutely."

Some offensive line notes: Jonathan Martin started at right tackle and moved over to left tackle in the second half. John Jerry play practically the whole game. This was his chance to win or lose the starting right guard job.

The issues at receiver has put the spotlight on players that were supposed to step forward this preseason but didn't. Clyde Gates was one of those. Yet Gates is content with how he performed.

"The hamstring I had kept me out of camp a few days and I missed a game but other than that I'm very happy with the camp I had," he said.

Does Gates think he deserves a to be on the team?

"Yeah, I think I should be. I can't look at it no other way."

Understand that's one man's opinion. Gates has not been told he is on the team. "No I haven't been told I'm good. I'm just going with it, contoling what I can control. I've done everything they asked me to do. Whatever they asked me, I went out there and did it."

One of the most puzzling situations this training camp has been the play of Matt Moore. He completed only 4 of 12 passes this game. He completed only 20 of 51 passes this preseason. He threw two interceptions, including a pick six and didn't throw a TD or get the offense in the end zone.

I asked Moore why he has been unable to play this preseason anywhere close to as well as he did last year, understanding he played last year against starters and this preseason he's play primarily against backups.

"I don't know," Moore said. "I don't have an answer for you. I have to go back and look at the tape and continue to get better."

The regular season begins Sept. 9 at Houston. The Dolphins have 11 days to move heaven and earth and play well.

Joke Franchise.
Sad.

Fin4 and Dashi,

From the last blog:

Naanee has been one of the biggest letdowns for me. I was hoping he'd be one of those vets that just needed a change of a scenery. Foole me onec, fool me twice, Pssssssfpt!
I like Thigpen. Alot of people didn't notice, but he ran routes out of the slot with our first and second teamers in games 2 and 3. Did an especially nice job with three catches in the 2nd game.
Tannehill looked real sharp when you consider the line and the receivers he was working with.
Devlin just keeps improving and impressing in my opinion. In the 4th quarter Devlin, Miller, Matthews and Cunningham were all instrumental in the TD drive. They were working against scrubs, but they were also playing with/behind scrubs as well.
Carroll has definitely improved and Wilson gots his number if he falters. Not the most optimum of situations, but workable. Especially if we bring somebody in.
PS: I think Moore is suffering from PTSD after losing the job to Tannehill. He looked absolutely horrid.

Now, to try and talk this Blonde into some drunk and naked twister! I'm gonna give new meaning to the phrase: Hot Oil Treatment!
Bottom's Up!!!!

Hmmm... could it be the personel on this team is so terrible the only way they look good is when playing against eachother? I really believe that posibility exists.

Right now, Jeff Ireland, not Philbin is most responsible for this. He put this roster together over 4yrs.

Moore is shutdown mode....this guy is obviously worth more to miami if they at least see if theres any interest in him for other teams....

He has to go look at the tape the last 4 games to try and explain why he sux so damn bad...*lol*

Thigpen, are you kidding me? We had a Tyler, isnt Ireland done playing in the "Thigpen" yet?

Thigpen is a bubble player trying to earn a roster spot. He played against the Cowboys worst and had an average performance. Now some here are raving like he going to be a difference maker. Dont hold your breaths.

Moore in shutdown mode? Moore was on the plane out of Miami before the game even began.

didn't watch game, but reading the box score looks like they move the ball a bit. Whatever, we're gonna suck this year. Hopefully Tanny comes out of it a better QB.

superPHIN,

Moore led not 1 td drive in preseason. Dont you think other potential trade partners would have the tape too?

After this preseason, Moore's lucky Burger King would accept him.

WHole team full of bubble players.
Love y'all breaking down the players as if they were legit NFL-caliber ballers. They ain't.

GET RID OF THE BALL-BOY! Li'l Jeffy should be in The Hague, on trial for crimes against humanity.

Bringing back Duper and Clayton right now would be an upgrade to what we presently have as wr's. Tanne's going to throw for 15 td's this year and it wont be his fault.

There was a guy on here betting against the Fins every preseason game. He must be rich already and the season hasnt even started.

YG....

Have you seen the jets or cards QB play recently??...not to mention spore-ano might just be desperate enough to offer a high draft pick if thats any consolation...not that irefiend would know what to do with it but still worth the look...

This team shouldnt be this awful after 4yrs under the same gm. I dont care who the hc was or is. Ireland should hasve the balls to fire himself after watching this preseason 2012.

15 TD's passing? We'll be lucky to score 15 TD's total including running and special teams.

superPHIN,

If the Jets or Cards traded for Matt Moore, they still wouldnt have a qb. They would just have one more horrible qb to chooose from to make thier starter.

Thigpen, are you kidding me? We had a Tyler, isnt Ireland done playing in the "Thigpen" yet?

Nobody but YOU mentions him as a difference maker.

Check his performances against the Bucs and Panthers no. 1's and 2's.

The only guy that put up better receiving stats is Bess. That's just the fact of the matter, not my opinion.

You can be as negatyive as you want about the pre season, you won't get an argument out of me. But Thigpen did have a couple of nice moments against quality competitioin.

YG

actually they interviewed him shortly after the game and he was said to be excited about the waiver wire additions coming up for miami this week.....definately not of dissapointment over the product shown on field, thats for sure.....seems like a red flag to me to try and collect other teams throwaways just to become more mediocre...just sayin

Ross can not keep his head buried up his asss that Ireland's a good gm. He isnt even a decent gm. Especially if all he can do is field the players we saw this preseason.

$yrs later this team has yet to leave the rebuilding stage. Rebuilding this year? Dolfans, we havent left rebuilding since Ireland's ran personel and drafts.

Moore mostly played with back ups ad scrubs...btw, Tuna put this team together 3 of the last 4 years.

FROM LAST POST...

YG,

Read every post I and others have written since the games end and really every post since we tried the Ocho exp. nobody is pleased but the scenario dropped by Griese and Comp. about a trade for G.Jones isn't the most appealing either. I know you watch alot of games especially post season and in the Pack 2010 title run how many critical drops did Jones have and it doesn't stop there noticed it 1st in the epic 09 W.C. game Vs. the Cardinals. If the option is G.Jones for that 2 we got for Vontea I say keep it. I'm sure if there were a place to look up targeted and drops he's at the top of the NFL. The WR's suck BAD and it will be a long season just seeing what some of the pieces that may fit look like.

fin4life | August 30, 2012 at 12:59 AM

There is a NIGHT and DAY difference between looking for silver linings or moral victories and rating some of the players on the team, really!!

fin4life | August 30, 2012 at 01:02 AM

superPHIN,

Very sad state when your team has to scour the waiver wire to search for starters. In fvckingcredible!

Coalition To Get Coalition Out Of The Closet | August 30, 2012 at 01:01 AM

MY POINT EXACTLY!

Mike....give it up on moore already..the guy has had chances with the 1's,2's,3's and anyone left with an opportunity to make this roster...not all is his fualt but some of the passes he's made have been TERRIBLE to watch..he looks like he's taken 10 steps back this year from last which isnt saying much since I didnt think much of him to begin with...he is just not the guy that we can count on anymore other than a backup whose career is coming to a fast end...

fin4life,

This season's a bust. A smart gm writes it off. Save the damn 2nd and 6th rd'er for the draft. Unless your such a terrible talent evaluator you no longer trust your drafting skills.

If Ireland feels that way he should just turn in his resignation. Which btw, seems would be the single greatest move he ever made while Dolphins gm.

If I were a nfl gm, ahter 4yrs my roster looks as terrible as we have this preseason, I wouldnt have the balls to remain in the front office.

I would fire my own GD self.

Thigpen is a joke. Everyone knows Odin tart likes anyone in tights.

YG,

Are you really going to engage me in my thoughts on Ireland after all this time?? My only worry is all the picks were acquiring will be for not under his guidance come the 2013 draft. I also hate the constant year in year out tinkering of the roster until Oct. but am going to wait and see while hoping that stunt on HARDKNOCKS is real about him letting the Coach have say on these moves, nothing else we really can do short of pulling out the paper bags or burning down the facility with him in it because Ross is either in love or Ireland has naked picks of the man either way were left no choice but to play it out.

If Ireland feels that way he should just turn in his resignation. Which btw, seems would be the single greatest move he ever made while Dolphins gm.

Yesterday'sGone | August 30, 2012 at 01:10 AM

Now your preaching to the choir, AMEN Brother!

Ireland wont resign. Where else can he steal that kind of money?

Im out guys, gotta go to bed.

LATER AS WELL GUYS!

There has to be one person on earth with a brain that has Ross' ear to tell him honestly and succinctly that Jeff Ireland has driven this franchise straight in to hell.

The team is beyond pathetic and beyond a joke. I have never in all my life seen a team with so little talent, so unprepared and not look even remotely competitive in any aspect of the game for 16 straight quarters. College teams could beat the Dolphins right now.

Go to hell Ross for allowing this to continue.

Any one supporting that cesspool of an organization needs to have their head examined.

Clyde Gates gotta go...
Matthews impressed me.
Lamar Miller is indeed a beast.
Daniel Thomas looks ready for action.
Jonathan Martin will be okay and will get better with experience.
Tannehill needs a veteran WR better than Devone Bess.
FB Lane will be an upgrade.
Fasano won't make the team and replaced by Cooley.
Carroll has improved a lot and understand the Vontae trade.
Samuda should be tried at Guard.
Impressed with the backup NT & DT.
We need a bit help at the safety position.
We should the new WRs a chance.

Maybe Moore is freaked out that after being the MVP last year they give his job to a rookie without him earning it because his collage coach is now the O coach at the team. I getting that 1-15 feeling.

Philbin should resign. He admits he stinks.

The NFL should contract the Dolphins. Just fold the circus tent.

Fired Ireland or just trade him back to the Cowboys....

With all of this talk of roster churning (and the performance of the players on the field), I get the feeling that Coach Philbin doesn't think very much of the team that Ireland (and the Tuna) assembled. They look okay in practice, but not in a real game. Are they so nervous about making a mistake that they suddenly become stupid? It's like it's a mental thing with some of these guys. I recommend Ross bring in a Mental Health Professional because there are definitely some issues going on out there. Maybe he could hypnotize them all into think they're actually real-life NFL football players...

"...thinking they're actually real-life NFL football players."

Sorry...my bad...

I'm not really looking forward to the season now, I just hope I'm proved wrong that we will have an ok season but nothing special. I think Miami is going to be 2-3 years away from contending, now how many times have we said that.
It's hard to be a Phin fan at the moment.
But I still will always be a true Dolphin fan no matter how much we currently suck.

OMG, This is the worst team i have ever seen and i've been a fin fan since 1969. It looks like a good QB and Bess looks ok but everyone else seems to be in a fog of some sort. Instead of beer they should sell paper bags at sunlife, sales would be brisk.Or they could sell fins jersey's with JEFF printed on it with the number "0" that would be a big seller they sure aren't going to make any money selling seats.

ditto blindref......became fan in 1969 and this is the lowest I've felt going into season. No hope....no way out.....totally effed by Tuna & The Ball-Boy.

compounding matters>>>I'm in Houston the past two months and (I) the fans & media here (& national media) are rightfully stoked about their season-----reminds me of how it USED to be in SoFla, and (II) they consider their opener vs Fins to be a laugher...........which is true.
9/9 ain't gonna be pretty.

Oh all you whiney wannabe fans just STFU. Fans support their team. You guys need to get ogg Mando's already spoken for jock.

Rumor has it Matt Moore is going to Denver?

Boycott the Fish.. Im not even calling them Phins cause this team is not a pro caliber team.

Dashi thinks Dansby is traded to the Giants.

To all you cry babies on here! Its pre-season!! The games don't count and you don't show your offense. No game planning is involved. When the game's actually then wine and moan. Until the STFU you rookies. Since 78, Ive been a loyal fan of this team. If you are constantly spewing negatives about my beloved Fins go root for the Jets!!!

actually *count

@SugaCane

Dude, get f'n real. The season starts in 11 days. When they get blown out of the water you'll probably come on here and say its only the first game of the season, right? So, freaking predictable. This team has no freaking DEPTH, NO TALENT at multiple spots, Salary CAP STRAPPED (how do you get cap strapped with no talent like this?!?!?!) , and we've got the same guy (Ireland) that got us like this still running the show. That's OK. There aren't enough fools to buy into this lousy product so Ross wil get the message loud and clear soon and be forced to make a change at the GM position sooner or later.

I love how Jeff Ireland is rebuilding what he built. How the hell do you do that and still have a job??? We have the 4th worst cap number in the league and ZERO talent. That's on the GM! It's an absolute joke and I'm just completely bewildered how someone can screw everything up so badly and not get fired. Amazing.

Why don't you get real John, If you don't like the team or product root for another team. Its that simple, pre-season does not sway me one bit. I remember a few years back we went undefeated in the pre-season and lost 15 games. so STFU and go cry me a river!!!

SugaCane, where have you been hiding for the last (how many years has it been?). This team is consistently terrible and being steered by morons. You should be able to see the writing on the wall. Do you honestly expect this team to get anywhere this year? It's a joke. Wake up. It doesn't make you a bad fan to be realistic and as a fan you should be furious over what these people in charge are doing to your team. I know I am.

No I don't expect playoffs or anything like that. This season is to give RT the reps he needs to get comfy with the speed of the NFL. Hence, the reason we are starting a rookie qb and not Moore. Did you know many greats like Peyton took their lumps the first season and came back much better the next because of it. Folks we are rebuilding finally, our coach is not satisfied with 3 points anymore and I think we actually have someone who can throw the pigskin around.

Stop spewing this negative nonsense you all sound like Patty and Jet fans.

4 Wins for this bunch will be a gift~~~

Yeah just like your 4 straight SB losses. That's all your bills are known for lol

Jerry at RG, Martin , LT. No TEs, No WRs, how well would U play QB?

Ireland and Philbin are a huge step ahead of you. They are borrowing a highly successful tactic from another sport, boxing. Can't you see it? It's called rope-a-dope. The idea is to make your opponent think you are asleep, lull them into a false sense of security, and then ATTACK.

Jeff Ireland makes me wish Matt Millen was available to take over.....well, almost....

The reason they look good in practice is bevause both sides of the ball suck. They are so bad they make eavh other look good. Yikes!

WE STINK!
