The reaction following 30-13 loss to Dallas

Some reactions from Wednesday night's press conferences and open locker room session following the fourth loss in four tries this preseason -- this time a 30-13 loss to Dallas ...

Joe Philbin was realistic about how bad his team looked in this game:

"That's unacceptable," he said. "Poorly coached game. We didn't play well. We had a lot of penatlties. We had 12 men on the field. We didn't tackle well. We didn't score touchdowns. You guys saw the same game I did, it was not a good football game, not a good performance by our team. I'm the head coach of the team and that's a poor job by me getting them ready. That's the facts."

Philbin is worried that the team he sees in practice does not show up for games -- any games so far this preseason.

"Am I concerned? Yeah," Philbin said. "The confidence I gain is when I watch guys practice and perform well. We've been a good team in practice  but we haven't transfered that to the game on a consistent basis and that's a concern, absolutely."

Some offensive line notes: Jonathan Martin started at right tackle and moved over to left tackle in the second half. John Jerry play practically the whole game. This was his chance to win or lose the starting right guard job.

The issues at receiver has put the spotlight on players that were supposed to step forward this preseason but didn't. Clyde Gates was one of those. Yet Gates is content with how he performed.

"The hamstring I had kept me out of camp a few days and I missed a game but other than that I'm very happy with the camp I had," he said.

Does Gates think he deserves a to be on the team?

"Yeah, I think I should be. I can't look at it no other way."

Understand that's one man's opinion. Gates has not been told he is on the team. "No I haven't been told I'm good. I'm just going with it, contoling what I can control. I've done everything they asked me to do. Whatever they asked me, I went out there and did it."

One of the most puzzling situations this training camp has been the play of Matt Moore. He completed only 4 of 12 passes this game. He completed only 20 of 51 passes this preseason. He threw two interceptions, including a pick six and didn't throw a TD or get the offense in the end zone.

I asked Moore why he has been unable to play this preseason anywhere close to as well as he did last year, understanding he played last year against starters and this preseason he's play primarily against backups.

"I don't know," Moore said. "I don't have an answer for you. I have to go back and look at the tape and continue to get better."

The regular season begins Sept. 9 at Houston. The Dolphins have 11 days to move heaven and earth and play well.

It is true that Shula had Griese, Csonka, etc allready here when he came in, but he had to clean an awful lot of garbage to accommodate the Warfields, Scotts, Buonicontis etc that would eventually come in.

fin4,

With Pac Man Jones, he's often in trouble. With Vontae Davis and his boughts of focus, your secondary can be often in trouble. Despite the occassional big plays.

Didn't the front office come out and admit we needed more speed and playmakers like, two years ago? What the hell happened?

Oscar,

Shula surrounding himself with high character players only, not true. If your play "HEAVILY" outweighed your flawed character. Shula would tolerate you until the first signs of slippage in play.

Yesterday'sGone | August 30, 2012 at 12:19 PM

Quick examples:

1) Hollywood Henderson, who was taken to NA meetings by Dorthy Shula and admitted to looking for Cocaine rocks on the practice field sometimes smoking pebbles (I sh it you not)

2) Delvin Williams notorious Pot smoker but gave Shoes another 1,000 RB to work with in 79-80

3) Mark Duper who became quite the handful with his nose parties and getting busted on a team trip with strippers in Atlanta.

ect...............

bouts of focus

can rt paxx to himself.?.
lol

We're not paying a QB top money, we're not paying a WR, a TE, or a RB top money BUT we're paying top money for a LT who has become injury prone, a pass rusher who is over 30, & for a MLB who has done more complaining that practicing.

So with all the money we're spending you'd think the defense with Wake, Soliai, Dansby, Burnett, & Starks would be solid right??? Wrong. No pass rushers other than Wake. If Odrick doesn't take his play to another level then we're looking at another HUGE miss. BTW--Ireland raved about Odrick after he was drafted so he can't escape this pick & blame it on Parcells.

The secondary was a mess before we traded Vontae. If ANYTHING happens to Smith or Marshall--who are not exactly proven to be shut down corners--we're going to have to start Nolan Carroll who IMO is not even good enough to make an NFL roster. I have hope that Rashad Jones can be legit but what about the other Safety spot??? Is Clemmons the answer & if not then what???

Didn't the front office come out and admit we needed more speed and playmakers like, two years ago? What the hell happened?

Well, Ireland did add more speed, he just forgot they needed to be real football players, not track stars.

Agreed the O-Line Talk is Ludicrous. This might be the Worst Team we have put out in the last Couple Years(High $$$ FA Years). But this is the Best O-line we have put on the Field in the Last Decade.

We might Actually have a Starting 5 for the Foreseeable Future. Long, Incognito, Pouncey, FatBoy(JJ), and Martin.

Dashi Likes Hicks and Samunda, but I would only Pick 1 out of Gardner and Murtha. Probably let them both go for Cap Reason and Pick Something Younger out the Pile in the Next Few Days.

chris, ire is what happened.
lol

Just testing you, YG.

i mixx nails 66.

Philbin ia alienating the star players with his Camoron style. Losing Marshall,Vontae,Y Bell, and Chad Johnson and getting no players in return also has morale among players low. I have never seen a franchise in such disaray. Just pathetic how friggin incompetent the 3 stooges are.
------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes youve got to cut the fat to get to the meat. Bill Belichek did this when he took over the horrible Pats and now look at them. Not saying Philbin is the next coming of BB but its his team let him get his players in there. Coach K doesnt always get the most talented play available but brings in his type of guys and they win year in and year out. If the coach and the player dont mesh it creates just as much of a headache in the locker room as having them gone. The exception is once theyre cut or traded then 2 weeks later its forgotten. All Philben has to do is win and its forgotten. Remember that. CJ had a one strike and youre done clause, strike one.. peace, Marshall had a ton of drops and didnt play up to his pay, is he better than the rest of the receivers, yes but what good would he have been to a rookie QB screaming and crying all in his hear like TO? Look at TO now and in a few years you will see a BM, Vontae has all the upside in the world too bad he cant workout and prepare like his brother, youre getting paid to play football but cant keep in shape seriously
? and then when he ges cut on camera he wants to call his gma.. maturity issues. All the guys you mentioned were on the team for atleast the past 2 yrs correct? how was the team with them?

You know nothing about Music, YG.

The Bad:

I may never see another Dolphin sb team in my lifetime.

The Good:

At least win the Dolphins were winning sb's they were great enough to last a lifetime.

Feel so sorry for you younger dolfans. You only know misery and disappointment concerning the Dolphins.

Yesterday's gone, a real good draft is if you get 2 starters, 3 is considered great. I believe Ireland had a good draft.

shuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuultz!

No doubt but my point is V.Davis is the definition of a MAN-CHILD, see that scene on the show again and look into that kids eyes.

Feel so sorry for you younger dolfans. You only know misery and disappointment concerning the Dolphins.

Yesterday'sGone | August 30, 2012 at 12:36 PM

I'm beginning to come to that sad conclusion as well!

I hope we choose to address OLB, MLB & possibly a pass rushing DE in Free Agency next year. We might have to sign a big time CB too if Smith walks.

That would free up a WR, CB & S with those 3 high picks. They all need to be day 1 starters.

Ireland's a waterboy.

You know nothing about Music, YG.

Jimmy Hendricks single handidly revolutionized the rock and roll industry. He was the first to make a guitar talk. Had he not died so early, he would have been the first to make a guitar walk under its own power too.

Is this good enough? LOL

We Have RB's | August 30, 2012 at 12:30 PM

I believe his exact words were, "We hit a coup strengthening the team with a player that can go inside or out and also in taking the player Rex and the Jets coveted.

Did you see how great Lamar Miller looked yesterday? I hope he continues to focus.

The O-line will be the best it has been in awhile. Carey's play @ RT was atrocious as soon as Sparano took the job. Bear in mind that we gave him a new contract after the 2008 season. Then there were the great signing of Justin Smiley & then the worst FA signing which was Jake Grove. Both guys with injury issues & both total wastes of money.

Forget the WR's & CB's--just based on how the O-line has struggled for the last 4 seasons (with Jake Long at LT making a fortune) should have been enough grounds to fire Ireland.

Dashi | August 30, 2012 at 12:30 PM

Again 100% on board here and think your right about Samuda pushing one of the other 2 off the roster.

There is no doubt that this last Draft has been Ireland's Best one.

28-28-28.

Bobbyd12,

The problem with Ireland hasnt been drafting starters primarily. Its been that when they become starters they have little or low impact at best. Except for Pouncey an, but thier olinemen.

Tannehill maybe our 1st skill position impact player in 5yrs that the BP/Ireland regime has been in force. Like they say, at times even a blind squirrel finds an acorn.

Yes. There is a possibility that, in the Future, Samuda will take over the C position with Pouncey moving to G.

Dansby and Wake clearly our best fa signings. But I still kind of put Dansby in Marshall's category performance wise. The production's there but the game changing plays isnt.

Still when you sign good to great fa's, it's to add them to good to great drafting. One without the other still leaves you with many unproductive holes in your overall roster. You know, exactly what we have now.

oscar, it was ross who pix rt. ire wanted a fat ol @8.

oscar,

Im not ready to annoint Samuda anything playing against Cowboy d-linemen who will be unemployed by Monday evening. Your way ahead of the gun fellow dolfan.

Hopeless Miami Dolphins....Ireland is Dennis the Menace. Everything he touches blows up LOL

The last thing I heard Steve Ross say is that he expects to win this year. If that was truly his expectation I don't see how Ireland will be here after the season. And if the season goes the way I think like 3-13 Philbin might not survive the backlash either.

Herein lies the problem assuming Steve Ross realizes that Ireland is incompetent--What respectable or half-way intelligent or competent GM would possibly take the job working for Steve Ross & the Dolphins??? I sure as hell wouldn't just like taking the GM job for the Browns is a death sentence.

Clearly, the Dolphins aren't going to be any good this year and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it so why go nutty about it?

I'm simply going to enjoy bfootball season and hope for better days.

If you guys want to behave like 5-year-olds and have tantrums over a children's game that you have zero influence over, be my guest. I'm not that insane, sorry.

That might be too optimistic on the OL there RB's... even using a low standard. I think our rookie QB needs to be careful or he will get killed.

I am liking this Josh Kaddu play when suddenly he misses the tackle completely on the ball carrier. UFF!

Wake's clearly our greatest fa signing. Funny thing is, he came from the cfl. The blind squirrel found the "golden acron" with Wake. LOL

I have always been ahead of the Game and usually right, pal.

How's Debo?

As a kid, Koa Misi was once a great flag football star. He clearly proved reaching for th qb's waist whiffing on that sack. Old habits(flag football) can be so hard to break.

Lol

Don't see any options available now but to play Dansby.

"There is no doubt that this last Draft has been Ireland's Best one."

LMFAO!!! Are you f#cking serious??? First of all--that's not saying much. Secondly it's WAY too early. None of these players have played in a REAL game yet. Let's see how Tannehill handles losing week in & week out. Is he going to be mentally strong enough to bounce back from this like a Peyton Manning or will he lose confidence & be like Tim Couch. There's NO WAY to know the answer to this yet.

RB's, what did I just say? I've always been ahead of the Game.

We Have RB's | August 30, 2012 at 12:50 PM

I'd bet a bunch would with potentially 5 picks in the top 70 in the 2013 draft. There was a time people felt that way about Atl. and Home Depot's A.Blank after the Patrino, Mora Jr. debacles but look at them today. The real loosers in hindsight were us when we won the Tuna sweepstakes in 08 from Atl. because both teams were looking to the Pats young T.Dimitroff as the consolation prize. Today a team that was every bit as in shambles as us after 07 is in it every Yr. in their Div. while were looking to get respectable by Oct. every yr. since.

oscar is sniffing glue!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO!

Oscar, may I please call you "Deborah Stevens?"

I know that you are a man, and don't question that at all. It's simply that I would like a 'lady friend' here and since you are a regular it would be nice if you would pretend to be 'her' for me.

Nothing weird---no sex talk---I just want to imagine you are my ideal of 'Deborah Stevens,' an attractive suburban New Jersey housewife with q quick wit, pert breasts, and a Subaru.

Thanks you, Deborah.

Rather, I should say, I've ALWAYS been ahead of the Game.

Is he going to be mentally strong enough to bounce back from this like a Peyton Manning or will he lose confidence & be like Tim Couch. There's NO WAY to know the answer to this yet.

We Have RB's | August 30, 2012 at 12:56 PM

This is the real question, I found it disheartening that the Cowboy back up D did the number they did on Tannehill who couldn't buy a reception while our starting D for the most part got their butts handed to them by McGee! The answer to this ?? will make or break us for the foreseeable future.

"The Dolphins are working out free agent WR Donte' Stallworth Thursday.
Stallworth is among a "number" of receivers trying out for the Dolphins. He's 31, but he'd at least give the Dolphins some straight-line speed. Their starting receivers right now are Legedu Naanee and Davone Bess."

So much for adding "quality" guys....The guy killed someone while he was driving drunk!!! In Miami too!!!

I wonder if Ireland was the one who chartered the return flight?

When does the Roster Get Released? Tomorrow?

Yes, the Show was Nice and All, But the Final 53 will tell us more into what Philbin is thinking. Who are truly his type of players.

"This is the real question, I found it disheartening that the Cowboy back up D did the number they did on Tannehill who couldn't buy a reception while our starting D for the most part got their butts handed to them by McGee! The answer to this ?? will make or break us for the foreseeable future."

However if Tannehill doesn't become the answer at QB AT LEAST with the new rookie pay scale you're not buried financially & I have a feeling we're going to be picking high for the next few years no matter how he plays.

Just compare Luck's contract to the rookie deals of Sam Bradford or Mark Sanchez.

Trainwreck on the field.

Planewreck at the airport.

It's not like the Jets or the Bills are in such great shape going forward. Sanchez is horrible & who knows with Fitzgerald???

I like our chances with Tannehill & our coaches but the kid needs guys who can catch the football & make plays. I think Marlon Moore might actually be one of those guys he just hasn't done it on Sundays yet.

We Have RB's | August 30, 2012 at 01:20 PM

Agree that the rookie CAP helps in the sense were not buried like the other teams you mention. I was just agreeing with your other point about how this kid will respond to the long season ahead although I believe one killer of young QB's are taking to many sacks early and feel that here he will at least be protected.

The only thing fans have to look forward to is celebrating the day Ireland is fired.
