The reaction following 30-13 loss to Dallas

Some reactions from Wednesday night's press conferences and open locker room session following the fourth loss in four tries this preseason -- this time a 30-13 loss to Dallas ...

Joe Philbin was realistic about how bad his team looked in this game:

"That's unacceptable," he said. "Poorly coached game. We didn't play well. We had a lot of penatlties. We had 12 men on the field. We didn't tackle well. We didn't score touchdowns. You guys saw the same game I did, it was not a good football game, not a good performance by our team. I'm the head coach of the team and that's a poor job by me getting them ready. That's the facts."

Philbin is worried that the team he sees in practice does not show up for games -- any games so far this preseason.

"Am I concerned? Yeah," Philbin said. "The confidence I gain is when I watch guys practice and perform well. We've been a good team in practice  but we haven't transfered that to the game on a consistent basis and that's a concern, absolutely."

Some offensive line notes: Jonathan Martin started at right tackle and moved over to left tackle in the second half. John Jerry play practically the whole game. This was his chance to win or lose the starting right guard job.

The issues at receiver has put the spotlight on players that were supposed to step forward this preseason but didn't. Clyde Gates was one of those. Yet Gates is content with how he performed.

"The hamstring I had kept me out of camp a few days and I missed a game but other than that I'm very happy with the camp I had," he said.

Does Gates think he deserves a to be on the team?

"Yeah, I think I should be. I can't look at it no other way."

Understand that's one man's opinion. Gates has not been told he is on the team. "No I haven't been told I'm good. I'm just going with it, contoling what I can control. I've done everything they asked me to do. Whatever they asked me, I went out there and did it."

One of the most puzzling situations this training camp has been the play of Matt Moore. He completed only 4 of 12 passes this game. He completed only 20 of 51 passes this preseason. He threw two interceptions, including a pick six and didn't throw a TD or get the offense in the end zone.

I asked Moore why he has been unable to play this preseason anywhere close to as well as he did last year, understanding he played last year against starters and this preseason he's play primarily against backups.

"I don't know," Moore said. "I don't have an answer for you. I have to go back and look at the tape and continue to get better."

The regular season begins Sept. 9 at Houston. The Dolphins have 11 days to move heaven and earth and play well.

Starters played very well against Atlanta and Dallas starters. That's all that matters.

And people still saying JI is doing a good job!
Posted by: ray | August 30, 2012 at 06:26 PM

Who's saying he's doing a good job?

Jets fans say Ireland is doing a good job

I think Philbin will resign before the seasons over. This is way too big a challenge for him. Especially with the moron GM.

Ireland is explicitly linked to Tannehill for the forseeable future.

Even if we crap out with only 4 to 6 wins, as long as Tannehill looks impressive or like the real deal, Ireland survives one more off season.

Especially with the prospect of Philbin helping him identify and aquire talent.

The only way I see Ireland getting bounced is for Tannehill to look worse than Henne AND we only win 4 to 6 games games.

At this point, Tannehill is the only variable.

Having said all that, I have to take heed of Craig M's comments. Be careful what you wish for. Identifying and landing Very Good to Great GM's is about as Risjy as drafting QB's in the first round. For every good one you find, there are 20 without a clue.

I've had to resign myself to the fact that Ireland will be here this year and most likely(depending on Tannehill)at least next year too.

Having said all that, let me reiterate: Be Careful What You Widh For!

This sorry team is the team Ireland built
Acquiring draft picks won't amount to a hill of beans if we have this incompetent scout picking again next year

There's only two guys that I really don't want to see cut. The way this crew has been performing, this year like no other, I'm not as concerned with the cuts.

The two guys I hope we keep are DE Derrick Shelby. Definitely worth put some time and effort into.

The other guy is DT Kheeston Randle. He played with with the starters against Dallas and has played well in all of his Pre Season outings. Rookie DT's often seem out of their league when trying to transition to the NFL. Not the case with Randle. He has a ton of raw talent and knows how to use it.

Two more of Jeffy's acorns. I think Shelby was an UDFA and Randle maybe a 5th? Hell, maybe they both were UDFA's. Either way, both of these guys are worthy of Practice Squad spots if not regular 53 man roster spots.

..Craig M..I have nothing against long posts..(see anything I skquawk about)

I can appreciate what the Parcells-Ireland-Sparano regime did their first year in charge..Being serious. It was quite an achievement..But if ireland gets some credit for that season, he must also then be held accountable for some of the moves during the Parcells reign of fear..If we want to excuse him of any wrong doing during this time..Then he gets no credit for the teams success..

It is difficult because each of us has our own idea as to exactly when Ireland took the controls..Because of the hush hush nature of this team we can't even get a straight answer as to who was the guy in charge during those grey area drafts..2008-2009. I would say Parcells even though Ireland held the label GM..This said. I don't think Ireland is an idiot, I don't think he is an incompetant. I do think he has done a poor job here as proof that this team keeps getting worse, the roster more thin, and the positions important to success in this league..Absent of real talent..That is on him.

As far as who may be better suited for this job..I can't answer that. I realize that any succesor will have some huge expectations to turn this franchise around. I just think that perhaps some new direction is needed. Whatever Irelands plan has been has not worked. We are in it deep. Yes Tanny becoming the franchise guy will help(I just think his development is going to be difficult given the players he has to work with)I just don't think that you can look at this team and say that Irelands term has been a success..I also do not think that the team he has put together is going to buy him enough time to see the franchise turned around.

Tannehill was Ross's pick. Ireland will be gone at seasons end.

You can not carry on a serious conversation here without having one of these resentful little dip-shi-s here interrupt it. So, what good is this Blog for? To make fun of it.

..Odin..Have you seen Micah Johnson???

Shelby looked awesome in week 2. I haven't watched much of last nights game..or the 4th quarter of game 3..

My favorite player from this preseason has been WR Matthews. I know he has been playing v the scrubs..But he impressed me enough to think he gets a spot.

Ireland's a waterboy.

Well, Parcells used to talk about having to be the cook and not getting to buy the groceries. So, he became the Maitre De in Miami and hired a pizza guy (Sparano) to do the cooking and a kid from Subway (Ireland) to do the shopping. And, they decided that meatloaf (3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust) would be on the menu. Well, the Maitre De got his paycheck and snuck out the back door. The pizza guy tried to make meatloaf pizza and that didn't work, so he was fired. The owner couldn't get any of the available chefs to take the job and they hired a guy who watched a bunch of Seinfield and fancied himself a self-made "Soup Nazi"! He wanted to make chicken soup, but the cupboards were full of stuff for meatloaf pizza. So, the Subway kid has to go shopping again...

And, that's where we are now...

Tune in next week to see if the kid remembered to buy a chicken and some noodles!

A) 0-1

B) 2-3

C) 4-5

D) Who cares about that crappy team?

..Odin like you said. Be careful what you wish for..You made the analogy to picking a quarterback. The same can be said for doing nothing, or sticking with a plan or a GM that isn't working. I'm just asking how long of a rope does Ireland get? I'm sure that Tannehill is the barometer. To me, Ireland isn't going to get enough time to reap the rewards should Tannehill deliver the goods.. Just my opinion. but this team is bad on so many levels I believe is it one that gets you fired if you are a GM..

How could you blame Ross? How could you blame the fan base? It has become frustrating to the point of comedy here. My thinking is that if this team performs how many expect..What would be the harm in making a change? This franchise has become irrelevant. This isn't all Irelands fault. But at some point these old ideas need an exorcism. I would welcome the chance of change even with the risk that nothing does.

Now..Don't get me wrong. All I want is for this team to find some success. If it is Ireland that brings this. I'll be the first one to admit my error in judgement. My gut feeling tells me he isn't the right man for the job.

This team has a black cloud above its head.

Maybe Ireland can trade it for picks.

. My gut feeling tells me he isn't the right man for the job.

You are so observant. Your just realizing this now??

GM's are born. They are not hatched from acorns.

I wonder if Ireland was a Tuna acorn?

Have to be honest guys....

Getting a little sick of acorns.

HUH!! Making me hungry!

@Craig M

How the hell can you say Jeff has been in charge less than 3 years but at the same time claim he was responsible for the 11-5 season?

Either he is responsible for it all or NONE OF IT. He and you can't pick out the best parts of the last 5 years and put it on him. Its all or nothing. No half stepping my friend

That's the problem JI wasn't born he was hatched! LMAO!! He is a lizard no brains cold blooded. He gets his tail cut off no spine
Blah blah blah. I ran out of bad things to say about him! I will be back. I'm hungry meatloaf. Pizza chicken wings!

Yo Jeffy.

is your momma a hooka?

Ralph has told me many times, Oscar you don't belong with those People. But I keep persisting and persisting...

And the post of the year goes to;

Before the home opener, Ross ia letting everyone with a ticket give Ireland a golden shower.

All the guys who think the team stinks and will go 1-15 or 2-14 based on PRESEASON results should just make a public commitment to smash their own testicles with a hammer if the team wins 6 or more games. Reality is that they will win 6-8 games.

Bravo sir! Bravo!

I'll blow everyone on the blog if they win 6 games!

To whoever have Football eyes on his head, Chris Hogan is no Wes Welker.

Hey I don't like Jeff Ireland either but lets at least be objective here. Even if you are one who won't admit it you know Ireland has only been in charge for 2 years.

I've been judging him on that alone and he fails in every way except with free agents, he's brought us some good players via free agency. Don't ask me who, if you don't know look it up yourself, be objective.

So even with him only being in charge two years he has made one boneheaded move after another. It's a little early but his drafts on the surface have been putrid.

I heard an interview on NFL radio today (sirius) and it was a Florida sports writer being interviewed. The idiots running the show were making fun of the Dolphins like 12 year olds (real professional) while making things up. They were saying Pat White was a horrible pick by Ireland and that was the straw. The reporter raised his voice and interrupted them, told them if they were going to make fun of the team they should educate themselves. Reminded them he has covered the Dolphins for years and is around the team and players every day. They said, "educate us". He told them that Ireland was the scout, Parcells had been training him for the gm job, and that Parcells had final say on every draft pick and free agent signing. The guys actually were embarrassed because as the one guy said, "I should have figured that, Parcell's was big about shopping for his own groceries. He told them how Parcells fought tooth and nail for Pat White even though everyone else in the room was against it. He told them about Parcells line "Chad Henne will be my new Phil Simms", and them reminded them about all of the free agent busts that Parcells coveted including Ernest Wilford.

All I'm saying is we have to stop blaming Ireland for everything that is wrong with the Dolphins. Judge him on the last two years, there's plenty of screwing up to point out there.

Ireland has provided input since the day he got here and made most of the decisions. Some think he was twiddling his thumbs for 2 years? He is soley responsible for this team being in total disaray.

Lastly I'm sorry but have some of you just completely lost your minds? I understand being upset that the team hasn't been good in a long time but most of you are complaining that this years team sucks.

Yeah, no s**t. Did you delude yourself into believing they were going to be better in the first year of a rebuild? New QB, lost players, new head coach, new offensive scheme (first time ever run in Miami), switched defensive schemes from the 3-4 to a 4-3. And so much more has changed.

It took two seconds after the dust settled (and then especially after trading Marshall and seeing none of the young guys step up!) from last season to realize the team would struggle this season. AND YOU'RE MAD ABOUT THAT? LOL

You should be mad at yourself for not understanding a game which you take so seriously you sit in a blog for hours on end screaming like a little girl. Don't be embarrassed by the team, be embarrassed by your own stupidity.

Sorry Dashi but you're wrong. Those aren't the facts. I've heard multiple sources say Parcells was in charge. It's official. Be mad at Jeff for the past two years. Don't make things up. If you think Bill 'the ego' Parcells let little Jeff Ireland make decisions when he was vp in charge of the team I have a bridge I would like to sell you.

Ok, scouring the blogs, looking to see who was brought in for a look-see, I've got this so far:

QB Matt Blanchard (cut by the Bears)
Veteran WR Donte Stallworth
WR Mike Sims-Walker (Jags)
WR Brian Tyms (Fla A&M, cut by 49ers)

That's it so far...but, there's always tomorrow!

The problem is this team is not rebuilding, they're self-destructing.

"Yo Jeffy.

is your momma a hooka?"

Well my mom is a prostitute and she works for my Dad so what do you think? Seems pretty obvious.

Hey Dez how's your moms face? Did you break her nose when you punched her this off season? And how are the "Dez rules" working out for you. It must suck to be an adult and have to be chaperoned every where you go. Not to mention being told you can't drink and have to be in by 12 every night! What are you 16 years old? ROFLMAO What a loser you are Dez Bryant!

Well, Phins78 I hope your not saying that Ireland will be better without Parcells. I hope your not that friggin stupid!!

If ya like Ireland....you must be a Jests fan.

Naaaahhh, always looks like self destructing during a rebuild. The Parcells era did the same thing as soon as they came in. Parcells was quoted saying upon arrival, "We have two players on this team, a punter and a running back, no ones job is safe" Got rid of all of the players, like 80%turnover and just accumulated more sucky players, hopefully Philbin will help avoid that this time around.

I have a feeling Philbin is secretly plotting against Ireland so he can bring his own guy in next year.

"Hey Sherm watch this",,,,,"Jeff!, get rid of Marshall he doesn't fit"

"Ok Joe"

"Tee Hee Hee did you see that Sherm, I'll get this guy fired in no time and then we can start building a real team".

Come on Dashi, I've been tearing Ireland apart for two days here. You know better than that.

I just believe in being objective. Non objective people have no credibility. When you bash someone and just start making things up to make them look worse it actually makes you look like an idiot. Not you Dashi, just making a point, it could be anyone.

Objectivity is key, it shows you think and have a mind of your own. You want an example of a non objective person? Go talk to a republican who gets all of their info from FOX news or a Democrat who gets all of their info from MSNBC. You will want to blow your head off within a minute!

Veteran WR Donte Stallworth
WR Mike Sims-Walker (Jags)

Tracy thanks for the info. The two mentioned above,,,,,,SIGN EM! Better than anything we have and Tannehill needs help. Hope whomever they sign will be smart enough to learn the playbook quickly.

Philbin will probably tell Jeff to leave the team as is.

"I'll get the number one pick next year and also get rid of this fool and his 3's, 4's, and 5's, two birds with one stone"!

I'm out, no one here (crickets),,,,,PEACE!

What happened to 7-11??

Do you really believe that BP did not know that Henne and Pat White were busts? Plhueess. I believe it was Ross.

My reaction is that overrated Tannehill can't/ won't throw a pass over 10 yards. He is the 32nd best qb in the league. What a waste of #8 pick. Way to go Miami!!!!

After reading this blog....I would have swore we just got eliminated from the playoffs in OCT again...then I looked @ my calendar...and realized...ITS STILL AUGUST......so by my calculations....it must still be pre-season...somebody...feel free to correct me if I am wrong...it was a pre-season game...right?????

Like you guys...I don't love what I saw.....If you ever read a post from me....you know i'm not in love with Tannehill (although I wanted him to start).....and I am no Ireland cheerleader...However...I try my best to find reason's to support him....getting harder and harder every day.....

Bottom line GENTS.....

My biggest concern is the rumors that Philbin has lost the locker room already.....I have to wonder if that has something to do with a lack of effort last night....as Philbin said..."they weren't ready....

Philbin is walking into a tough spot.....Sporano led the chickens rule the roost....many of you called him a "player coach"...I called him a push-over....and whenever things went horribly wrong....he would give the players a "day off"...as opposed to getting in faces..and DEMANDING MORE....EXPECTING BETTER...

Right or wrong...Philbin has put his foot down....he MUST hold the line for the next FEW YEARS to get the type of player turn-over he needs....

Everybody attacks Ireland here but nobody attacks Ross. heheh. As I said before , I'm an independent so I have nothing to fear from Ross. hehehe

yea, they look good in practice because they are competing against each other. Put a real team on the field and... well we suck...

There is no defense against a perfect pass. I can throw the perfect pass.

Hey, Paul, take note of these pend-os.

"It is known that in Internet, nobody is safe", another memorable quote.

We all know this season is already over. At best a 7-9 record and at worst 3-13. with that said, I would love to see the younger players on the feild. I like what I see in Tannehill and think he will mature into a fine QB. Just please don't fill his head with that "protect the ball" crap. Let him play and take some chances. don't be so concerned with winning now and focus more on developing for next season.

Everyone wants to win now, but that won't happen and I would rather trade aging vets, play projects, and begin to build a new and better team than to see us struggle year after year after year...

I think I will adopt this one.....

C'mon, c'mon, bring somebody of weight here that I can discuss many things with. Don't bring these crumpled pubic hairs here.

What time is there to lose on most of them? Cut them.

Just a thought guys?? How much cap space do we have?? How do you sign 10 players with 4 million cap space and that requires you cut Gerrard.

Even vet miniumu 4 million only gets you 3 or 4.

Just wondering were the money comes from and how you squeeze them in. You need two WR,TE,OL, DB. Pretty much what I thought we needed before the draft.

Maybe Ross should have brought coaches in that can fix a system to his players. Spent 4 years building 3-4 after we dimanttled a 4-3 that was pretty good that took 5 or 6 years to build. Now we go back to a 4-3 and wonder why it does not work?? D hasn't been all bad though.

Phew!! Oh ya you get rid of Moore and Gerrard and you have to sign another QB also.

Read up on Green Bay Blogs. Their sportswriters say no way James Jones is traded to us. He is having a good camp and they don't want to part with their number 3 guy.It looks like it will take a number 2 for him.Fins will probably settle for whoever gets cut in GB. I hope they don't sign Stallworth

From *:28 Til Now Dashi has been Impersonated.

Disregard any of those Post

Ireland will probably want to keep Matthews and Cunningham since he drafted them and doesn't want to admit he sucks. Matthews has earned it. Cunningham was a stud in college but has been a disappointment. I thought he would bring more

Oscar so you are just looking to hate for the good of hating? Please tell me that was sarcasm. Parcells has said himself, hes been in interviews saying he abandoned his rules on the Pat White pick. He has personally admitted it was his fault. And you're still looking to blame someone else? Please tell me that was a joke.
