Every Tannehill throw vs. New York without much pressure

Perhaps some of you have been scratching your heads this week as you think about the upcoming game between the Dolphins and the Cardinals because the team out west simply doesn't get a lot of play around the country.

Simply, how is it that Arizona is undefeated this year and 10-2 in its last dozen games?

Defense, folks. Mostly defense.

And that is angry, snarling defense is what awaits Dolphins rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill. I know you're not all that concerned but consider that last week that unit made Michael Vick look overmatched.

The primary reason?

They get to the passer.

Last week the Cardinals had 20 pressures or hits on Vick. Twenty! Compare that to the treatment Tannehill got from the Jets supposed pressure defense -- one sack, hit twice as he was throwing -- and it looks like a day at a flag football game.

This week Tannehill's toughness may be tested. This week the Miami offensive line may be tested. This week the Dolphins quick passing game may be tested.

Methinks the MIami offensive line is superior to Philly's. I hope the commitment to the run is better than it was in the fourth quarter last week. Both are tools to protect Tannehill.

The Jets obviously opted to cover in the back end and didn't go crazy on blitzes last week. As you will see below in the video of every Tannehill throw, the Jets came in with a reputation for exotic blitzes but didn't really live up to that reputation.

That mostly worked.

"There’s a few throws on the last drive, they’re corner routes that I overthrew deep," Tannehill said. "The second deep ball (Brian) Hartline had a yard on the guy and I left it on the white. Obviously, you want to get your deep balls in bounds so your guys have a chance. You can’t throw it off the field. So (I’ve) really focused in on that this week to keep balls in bounds and give guys a chance. We’re getting good routes by the guys. They’re stacking guys or at least even and have a chance to make plays. I just have to give them a chance and leave the ball in bounds.”

Tannehill's accuracy is something I'm watching closely going forward. There are times he simply is off. I don't know if that's a function of the one afternoon or if it will become a trend. I asked him the reason he was a wee bit off last week:

“I think not throwing a whole lot of them in practice is part of it," he said. "We throw them a lot in individual routes. We’re not seeing them a whole against a defense and it changes things a little bit when you’re going against a defense. I think this weekend moving forward that’s one of the things we want to work on is hitting those in practice that way, when they come up in games, we’re able to take advantage of it and make big plays."

The difference this week is the Cardinals get much of their pressure through their front rather than with the blitz.

It'll be interesting to see how Tannehill handles that if his offensive line doesn't hold up.

Enjoy the video, as provided this blog exclusively by Joe Alvarez, of every Tannehill throw against the Jets:

Speaking of Tannehill, Has anyone seen Weedens wife?

And Monte the sad truth of the matter is I do expect fans to be classless. There are A LOT of idiots in our society who are inconsiderate and rude and make the world a worse place to live in for those of us who are civil to one another.

But in saying that, it doesn't excuse their bad behavior. Yeah we expect it but I will never agree with it. Just like I don't agree with the rude woman who I opened a door for today and she walked right through texting, no thank you, like she was some princess and I'm a door man there to serve her. I could give you thousands of examples of rude people ruining things for the rest of us.

Dashi,

Some here dont fully understand "throwing a wr open". Greatly depends on the situations. At times leading your wr with the pass sets him up for a decapitating hit.

Its those times a qb has to also be accurate throwing at the reciever's back shoulder on those type 'crossing routes". Part of a qb's job is also "to protect" his recievers.

About Weeden. On multiple occasions last night we all saw and the commentators pointed out that he held the ball a little too long. He could have had 3 or 4 ints as the dbs made great jumps on the ball. He's 29 and Tannehill is much younger.

This is a known rookie stumbling block. Most rookies start this way. This is a non issue unless he doesn't improve on it in year two.

Phins 78 lol I experience that with women daily.

Pretty women are the recipients of 1,000 acts of kindness every day that they don't even notice.

Looks like Reggie Bush is going to be a game time decision for Sunday, should he play or not? check it out at http://phinsnews.com/the-warrior-bush/

Phins,
Well, then u should know that 2 wrongs dont make a right.

..Some good posts today. Has anyone checked out NFL.com coaches tape?? It is sweet, costs a bit. but well worth it. The only thing that sucks is that you have to wait until Wednesday to see the coaches film. The first time you can actually say watch tape and sound like a total baffoon..

Anyway..I'm no expert in breaking down "tape"..what I saw was exactly what some of you have been talking about..Trust, accuracy, recievers.

The whole idea that we blew the game because of playcalling IMO is false. The run to pass ratio was not really the true story of the stats. We threw it 20 times in the 4th quarter, and overtime. 16 times up to tht point. We absolutley stunk on first down in these periods..Only 3 positive gains on first down, only 1 over 5 yrds..So we put ourselves in poor situations. Some will question the choice to pass it deep in our own territory. I don't think you can have it both ways..We are trying to groom a qurterback..Remember this is the mantra..all things Tannehill, nothing else matters.. If this is true, and you don't care about wins and losses..Then shut up about the playcalling. We were trying to win the game, being agressive. Folks who aren't on this plan, and think wins will be abundant, and grooming Tannehill is secondary may have a case to complain about said playcalling..but if you are in group 1.. How can you whine about the team being agressive? Remember we want development...experience..We want to see what we got...

Speaking of which did anyone see the 'almost' interception by the (I can't remember his name so this might help because there is only like two of them on the entire Ravens defense) white linebacker or d-linemen? It was the one where he had two hands on it but collided with Ray Lewis and dropped the ball.

If you did see it or have a chance to watch again do so in slow motion. After the platy Ray Lewis rips into the guy. I thought it was because Ray was going for the ball but it wasn't. Ray was putting himself in position to make a tackle, never even saw the ball, just wanted to tackle the guy after the catch. Well the other guys eyes were wide as he saw the bad decisision on Weedens part and he broke on it, would have caught it if it wasn't for Lewis. But then Lewis yells at him for some unknown reason and the guy just took it. I know it's Ray Lewis but the guy is a mental midget. Great player, bigger dummy, I would have stuck up for myself.

You can do whatever you want. I only ask that you use a condom.

Racist thugs with IQ of 70: Ray Lewis, Charles Barkley, Warren Sapp, Joey Porter.

A Ray Lewis interview during the lockout.

Ray -" Do this research,,,if we don't have a season watch how much evil,,,,,which we call it crime,,watch how much crime picks up when you take away our game".

Interviewer- "Crime is going to go up because football isn't on,,,,why is that"?

Ray- "There's nothing else to do Mike".

Idiot

Jeff Ireland will most likely not give Winslow a serious look for two reasons. He wants to develop his own acorn loser. The second reason is he has to check wih 'Yesterday's Gone' first.

Ted,,,,hahahahah I agree. But in no way was this girl pretty!

...Also. Being able to see the whole field shows just how the recievers, Tannehill aren't on the same page. Yes he trusts Hartline..But he was taken away by the jets. He trusts Fasano..Who had the most targets(8 I believe) and he trusts Bess. The others cannnot get enough seperation on a consistant basis For Tannehill to rust them, or let the play develop before getting rid of the ball..I don't blame him one bit. If you did the whole fall back into your friends arms trust test and he let you drop..you would hesitate to trust them as well..

As far as the accuracy stuff. There were some issues.. Most of the missed passes were due to the coverage, and the balls were thrown where nobody could catch them. I have no problem there. The end of the 4th quarter pass to Hartline..the second pass..He was as wide open...It wasn't an easy throw, but one that needs to be made.. I put that one on Tannehill. The real problem with that play IMO was that Nannee had single coverage at the top of the play..Had beat his man on a stop and go..And was wide open. Again. Is this a trust issue?? Tannehill never looked up there, it was like he knew where he was going pre snap..

The throw in overtime was again not bad, but could have been better. Hartline won the route the same way Nannee did..Tannehill has to make that throw in stride, and we win the game..In the NFL that is as open as open gets..Not an easy throw. but again one that needs to be made.

All things aside..I liked the way Tannehill played..Yes his completion percentage stunk..But go back to the PI"S those throws were aggresiive, and althought they do not show up on the stat sheet..are just as affective as a completion. He moved the team ,and gave us 2 chances to win. That is impressive to me.

Have to go guys, enjoy your day. Peace

Hartline is gone at the end of the season.

That little injury(HOLDOUT) of his cost the team. And he is not one of philbins kind of players.

The Reggie Bush type, guys that live football, strive to be the best. Want to play. Reggie could've played. Coach just knew he screwed up and why not risk he get hurt for real. Plus, we need to know what we got in d.Thomas. L.miller will get his! Philbin is just babying him along like Sherman does with T-Hill.

Plus we need new Wr's. The fins only real good Wr is Bess. Time to give Matthews a shot! Cut Naanee! Jennings should be the cheapest of the 3 Wr's next year. Sign Jennings and draft a Wr in the 2nd and the 4th. Or 3rd if the talent is there.

Clemons shouldn't be the SS. That shows he's more of a depth player. R.Jones should be the SS with a Top of the Line Rookie FS. A guy that can cover and is a ballhawk. Use 1 of the 1st 2 picks on a play making safety.

The other pick! We all know where it should go. To a LB! To replace the $16mil DUO. WHO AVERAGE ABOUT 12 Tackles combined with over 70% completion pct against them. And no impact plays. No sacks, no int's! No pass deflected. Just a bunch of passes completed on them on 3rd down!

"Wheeler is coming off a monster performance against the Steelers with 11 tackles, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and two passes defensed. Among 4-3 linebackers, only Denver's Von Miller has a higher grade from Pro Football Focus."

Only Von Miller has a higher grade as a 4-3 LB!!! Bear in mind that Wheeler is playing on a one year/$700,000 deal & we chose to sign Jamaal Westerman who didn't even make the team. The brilliance of Ireland continues...

Daryl,

I REALLY don't understand why Naanee is even on this team. He's going to be gone after the season anyway so why not give Matthews a shot???

Our WRs have ankle weights. How can he throw them open?

Like, if you watch any Tanne throw over 20 yards, it's like the WR is moving in slow motion while the ball is moving at regular speed. (This is an indictment of the WRs' speed, not Tanne's throwing.)

Like even on the Hartline long catch, it was like Hartline only covered about 2 yards while the ball was in the air for 5 seconds.

Dashi,
if Hartline wasnt a Philbin type player, why is he still on the team? Philbin got rid of guys that are "his guys". Hartline was injured and didnt take a snap hardly during preseason and still makes the team and is an impact player for this team..

Phins78 you are the idiot. Look at the facts clown. Tannehill and henne are the exact same qbs. 1 td in 3 games. Lowest comp. %. There is no upside. Now you gonna say this joker needs time to develop just luke you said about henne. Guarantee he won't be the qb in the next year or two. Complete bust.

..We have RB's..I don't know? I'm just telling you what I saw. It was an example IMO of lack of trust between Tanny, and the whole group. I mean he threw into double coverage..Even though Hartline was open. Nannee was single covered and open, and he didn't even look his way..What gives?

Yg agreed throwing a Wr open takes more than just putting it in front of a Wr. On said fasano play he threw him open. Fasnano caught the pass haters. 3 point of contact. He got 2 feet down and his butt on the ground fell on his back on the sideline and then the jet player knocked it out after the play was over.

Ray was probably telling him he could've caught the ball in a positive manner!

See how fruity it sounds. Now it was more like why is ur big hillbilly behind scared of me fool. Ray's on ur team, Ray won' t hit u fool! Now do that come playoff time and Ray will eat ur children. Get ur game up! (Runs off Barking and growling at everybody!)

at some point, tannehill is going to have to show he can make those throws in crunch time and start displaying some of the skills that is needed to become the franchise QB we need here..relying on a healthy reggie bush is a crap shoot for the whole season..I understand the talent stinks around him but there were some wide open throws that he simply missed on sunday VS the wets...

he's gotta make those throws..there should be no excuses about how he and the team team doesnt practice this enough during the week...make the Phucking time!!!This isnt Training camp anymore kid, you should be getting plenty of reps on everything schemed for gameday...

As far as Arizona goes...traveling across country just isnt something west coast or east coast teams do well...and miami's only hope is reggie to have another breakout game in terms of winning(that and not relying on dan carpenter from 40+ yrds away)that said

Cards (23)
Phins (10)

It is what it is, and it IS a rebuilding year!!!

If Hartline plays like he did against Oakland than I expect him to be back. Mike Wallace will be the best WR available in FA. Wallace is a true game-changing player but whoever is in charge will have to break the bank to get him.

I'm an advocate of building through the draft but our first pick HAS to be a CB or we sign the best CB in FA & draft a WR. I honestly can't think of a team that has ever hit on a stud at both position in one draft & we need studs.

Frank, nicely worded post and pertinent questions for my thoughts, thank you.

Maybe Mando went on record as saying the team will be 6-10, but his writing style is ultra negative in my opinion. Take the post above. he goes on about how the Jets couldn't get to the qb - did he give kudos to Miami's OL and for Tannehill for recognizing defenses and making the appropriate adjustments even though Philbin said in week 2 Tannehill made 10 adjustments at the line and they were all positive? Despite that all three weeks the colour guys who have all been distinguished QBs highlight Tannehill's poise? NO!

He goes on about Arizona's front four and how much of a menace they are? Maybe they are, but he didn't mention how Miami is an elite rushing team (4th in the NFL) with a very talented O-line and that Arizona is a very bland 17th against the run. Advantage Miami?? You would think???? Because the old adage goes the best way to stop a pass rush is to run the ball and be balanced.

As far as Arizona's offense, they are not impressive at all. Rank in the bottom third of the league in passing and running so I don't think they will overwhlem us. If Tannehill can manage the game, we will win.

As far as improving in the 2nd half, that is surely based on the belief Tannehill will be better in the 2nd half of the year with more experience. As far as the pass defense, don't forget that the team is running a new defense this year. There's every chance they will improve as they become more accustomed.

..We have RB's..I don't know? I'm just telling you what I saw. It was an example IMO of lack of trust between Tanny, and the whole group. I mean he threw into double coverage..Even though Hartline was open. Nannee was single covered and open, and he didn't even look his way..What gives?

Daryl,

I'm with you--I don't believe Tannehill has confidence in Naanee. Might as well play Matthews who we know has good hands but needs reps.

DD,

Great series of post. Going to check out that section of NFL.com

Question? It's all 32 teams coaches film? That would be nice.

superPhin,

I like the way they are bringing Tannehill along. I have FULL confidence in Philbin & Sherman when it comes to this. Each week I've seen improvement. Anytime you start a young QB you MUST establish the run or your QB will get killed. I know people are drooling over RG3 in their fantasy leagues BUT if he continues to get hit the way he has RG3 is going to be on the IR.

DD, awesome post man, awesome.

Hartline isn't a Philbin player!

Look at our Wr's! Philbin made a lot of concessions at that position. Philbn wanted Chad to workout. Chad just screwed it playing fifa! If we didn't have Hartline who else would we have? We needed at least 1 guy that has played in the NFL! U need at least 2 Wr's to run a pro offense! Bess is #1, nobody showed anything all preseason. Hartline still didn't start the first 2 games. Now that naanee is on the bench and Armstrong got Weakhands. Flatline is our #2 Wr.

Dashi bets once Philbin starts playing Matthews, he will start taking snaps away from Hartline. Philbin can't just straight out cut naanee because that definitely shows the horrendous job Ireland has done with FA's. Chad would've been Ireland's saving grace. If only chad would've been flashy and had a bigger car.

Who does chad think he is? Steve Urkel!

As far as improving in the 2nd half, that is surely based on the belief Tannehill will be better in the 2nd half of the year with more experience. As far as the pass defense, don't forget that the team is running a new defense this year. There's every chance they will improve as they become more accustomed.

Mark,

In any defense (new or old) you still need to get pressure on the QB, you have to tackle well, & your CB's need to be able to cover their receivers, make plays on the ball, & force turnovers. Through three games our defense has done none of these things very well.

As for Smith--this is his 4th season & I've seen nothing but inconsistency from him & certainly NOTHING to suggest that he will improve in breaking up passes & force turnovers. And Nolan Carroll is even worse than he is. God help this defense against Larry Fitzgerald....

We need to draft a Patrick Surtain or a Troy Vincent type of talent @ CB. Watch Patrick Peterson play this Sunday...That's the kind of elite talent we desperately need.

Dashi,

The 'horrendous job Ireland has done with FA's' has already been established. The only 'acorn' that this team has found since Bess is Javorski Lane & Sherman found him.

Now if we draft 1 CB in the 2nd round and smith is resigned for a couple seasons? Wouldn't we have 4 decent CB's next year.

Does ed reed play with Patrick Peterson?

The cowboys got 3 starting Cb's and they still get thrown on from time to time. Same as the jets!

Who are Troy's cb's?

A safety controls ur secondary!

Who are the cb's in Seattle? Or San Fran?

All great pass D's need a safety! Not a Cb. U need corners but safety's are more important in the grand scheme of things.

Hard to believe that alot of folks are even evaluating Tannehill much at this point.....after 3 games (2 against good Ds)--and referencing the bleacher report for context (seriously?......do you all even know who writes for bleacher?)--Fins need to get a high quality WR, pass rusher and CB in both FA and the draft--sign a few FAs, use a few of the high picks for the same......wishful thinking I guess--but if they do that, they'll solidify their top 3 needs.

The difference is that Philly has a bad o-line and Vick is totally overrated. Yes AZ has a good defense but so far beating NE (Bad o-line) and Philly (also bad o-line) make them look alot stronger on paper then they do on the field. Fitzgerald to me is the key, if Miami can limit their bad QB's from getting him the ball they can win. AZ are no world beaters they are at the bottom of the NFL in most offensive categories and alot of their points have come as a result of turnovers. If T-hill can just play smart and not throw picks we can win this game.

WHRB, what about Cam Wake? randy Starks? Richie Incognito? Kevin Burnett? Ireland did find some players in free agency.

Fear not FIRELAND has epuipped this team with top talent!
Is FIRLAND still employed?

Hartline isn't a Philbin player!

Posted by: Dashi | September 28, 2012 at 02:18 PM

WTF is a Philbin player? He's coached all of 3 games and is 1-2.

plus Tannehill plays with basically the worst lot of WRs, as a group, in the league (or close)--what do you want the guy to show you, in 3 games, throwing to crappy WRs who cant get separation and only command single coverage (and drop the ball, A Armstrong)......

"WHRB, what about Cam Wake? randy Starks? Richie Incognito? Kevin Burnett? Ireland did find some players in free agency."

Mark,

I'll concede that Wake is an 'acorn' that Ireland deserves credit for BUT in my last post I was referring to this year's FA.

As for the job Ireland has done as GM this will be our 4th losing season in a row. That's Matt Millen-like!!! I'm very encouraged by this year's draft but as you can see it's just not enough. Just look at the 2011 draft. Aside from Pouncey there's nothing but question marks...Thomas has to hold on to the ball better & Clay has been invisible.

Waittilnextyear I think there are some that have realized that this has been the message for most of the recent seasons when it has to do with the Fins.If anybody wants to bet on this season I will oblige them especially the ones on here that thinx they know more than me,Its all just opinions the question is are you confident in yours as to make some type of wager?I thinx ye talk a good game but not willing to back it up.

Has Ireland been fired yet?

1-3?

Not good homers, not good at all.

Might as well release Tanne now. Grow our cap a little more.

We could use more hasbeens, castoffs and brokendowns. No one else will come here that's worth a darn.

"WTF is a Philbin player? He's coached all of 3 games and is 1-2."

LMFAO@Jay!!! Now that's a post people!!!

WHRB,

I know we don't see eye to ey on this but to me pass rush is a far greater need than CB. Smith and Marshall are passable, relying on mostly Cam Wake to get the job done is not. I love guys like Peterson and some of the other guys you are talking about but I believe Smith would be better if the pass ush was better and he has more help at safety. Chris Clemmons is not the answer. So right now, depending on where we draft, I'd go pass rushing LBer, WR, TE, S and then maybe your CB. Just how I see it, bud.

What's killing us now are the 2008 and prior drafts. Team went complete a**backward in building this team. We shouldn't have waited until year 5 to find our QB. Any useful vet on this team is from the outside? Our only home gornw vet leader is Jake Long and his is still only in year five.

The guys drafted in 2005-2007 should be in their peak years but ours are simply guys other teams didn't think was worth the money. Some turned out but theres a reason a team let all of these guys go. They get paid too and aren't here to build the Miami Dolphins.

We know what a Philbin player is NOT.

Its not Davis
Its not Marshall
Its not Garrard.

Apparently, a Philbin player is our new Olindo Mare kicker and a WR named Hartline that fled the scene of an accident. I wonder why he fled instead of calling a tow truck?

Oh yeah, a 6th round QB drafted in the 1st round.

Ireland has broken all records for most draft busts by a GM. The talent is very sparse.

plus Tannehill plays with basically the worst lot of WRs, as a group, in the league (or close)--what do you want the guy to show you, in 3 games, throwing to crappy WRs who cant get separation and only command single coverage (and drop the ball, A Armstrong)......

BPA,

Basically the worst??? How about just the the worst. I'd even take the Browns WR's over ours. The same goes for our CB's. The worst in the NFL. I think people have been WAY too critical of Clemons @ FS on here & WAY too high on Smith. Also Clemons wasn't a 2nd round pick who started every game in his rookie season.

Would somebody please respond to Jack Sparrow, he needs some attention or he's going to blow his top. Every time he posts, Tannehill's draft grade drops. He went from a 2nd-3rd round qb to a 4th and is now a 6th. Just like Tom Brady, wicked!!!

WHRB,

'worst corners in the league?'. Bit harsh bud, don't you think?

Who cares where Clemmons was drafted....he's not good enough!

We don't have the worst corners in the league, sorry I'm not buying that. I'd need to sit down and analyze it closer but our corners aren't the worst. What are you judging that on?

Larry Fitzgerald and the unofficial over/under........

15 catches o/u??

215 yards o/u?

Philbin already said what he looks for in a player u clowns!

Look it up! Even Mando posted the quote!

Go to dolphin.com

Google it if u want!

Just don't talk out ur as# because u only read hateful post and bleacher reports! Get ur info from credible sources. Real newspapers and sport magazines, or the worldwide leader!

But Philbin has described what he wanted in a football player!

Heat season is starting so we can watch a pro team for a change.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pass rush? LOL!!!!

Miami is 25th ranked in offense and 29th ranked in defense.

LOL!!!!! They gonna need a lot more than a pass rusher. They need a whole new team.

Can we finally, and without question, fire Jeff Ireland?

Whats a Philbin player? A scrub loser?? LMAO!
