Philbin: 'We have a million miles to go'

Joe Philbin, fresh off reviewing game tape of Sunday's 35-13 victory over Oakland, came into the Dolphins interview room at noon today and went absolutely bonkers with excitement about his first NFL coaching victory and Miami's first home-opener win in six years.

He was hyped. He was bouncing around. He was a different person!

No, not really.

Not at all.

In fact, Philbin made a point to his coaching staff and his players that their demeanor should be no different after this victory than it was after the opening-day loss to Houston.

"I told the team in the locker room, 'Our message to the media should be we have a long way to go.' We have to show a lot of improvement. I said to the team yesterday that seven days ago we knew we had to improve, we had to get better. We made a couple of strides but we still have a million miles to go.

"I said to the staff an hour ago, I want the mood to be the same as the Monday meeting [last week]. We have corrections we show the players every week and positives. And it should be no different than what it was last Monday."

The fact, however, is that the outcome this week was different than last week. So Philbin had to hand out his share of compliments about the Dolphins. Reggie Bush got a kudo. The Red Zone defense was good. Cameron Wake was singled out for his work versus the run.

A couple of offensive linemen also played well, according to Philbin.

"We thought Richie Incognito played a really good game, better than he did in Houston," he said. "We've been impressed with Pouncey both weeks. He plays the game the right way. There's a lot of pictures of him finishing plays and plain blocking people to the whistle and staying engaged on blockers. That was real encouraging."

But even in handing out kudos, Philbin is careful not to get too excited.

"... I don't want to give him too much or he'll start getting a big head."

The Dolphins, by the way, tackled better this week than the week before. But the theme remains. It was good. But nobody is going crazy happy.

"The good news is there's still a lot of room for improvement," Philbin said. "We have to tackle better relative to the amount of time we spend on it."

Odin has blamed YG, Oscar, Armando, the Herald, etc... as the blog troll. Now, it's reality check?

Why do you keep telling us you know who the troll is & change your story every day? For someone who claims to know alot, you have a funny way of showing it!

I never claimed to know who the Troll is. I kept calling him Monkey Boy....and well......YOU kept responding.

So, in addition to exposing yourself yet again, you're mixing lies with your TrollDom.

Nice work Dimwit!

It will be a good test for Tannehill the different blitz packages that he is going to see! If Revis plays it is going to be difficult for Tannehill to be successful. We only have one good WR. Bess is ok not great, it's going to be a good experience for Tannehill but I got the PHINS!!!! Yeah let's go PHINS!

That was me you responded to numbnuts! Not my troll!

I made the comment about you & Craig because you 2 are the biggest blog polluters aside from the trolls!

If you'd just shut up & not answer them, they will eventually leave. Then we wouldn't have to sift through your lame ranting posts.

When you stoop to their level, you're one of them.

PS: The Patsies and wets LOST!

Bhwaaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

I meant. One good WR is Hartline. Bess is ok not great.

Odin thinks trolls are jet or pat fans.

No moron, we just h8 you!

Bhwaaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

LOL @ Oscar.....

How many FINS games do you think you have left.....14....

Maybe you see a few next season....but its a long time between FEB and AUG.....

I guess Vegas would out the over/under @ 22....

That was me you responded to numbnuts! Not my troll!

Yeah, we already tried A ss munch and you're still here.

Listen, the Dolphins won and we want to talk football.

We don't want to talk about how dimwittedly narcisistic you are. Can you PLEASE just give a rest for once in your pethetically unwanted life?

I want to talk about Jeff Ireland.

I was talking about football MORON! Are you dense?

I even got a good post compliment from Kris.

You even reposnded to it.

Yet, you continue to accuse me of being a troll?

You have ZERO clue what you're doing. Do me a favor, ignore me til you do!

I want to talk about the gaytard mokey in my closet!

Speaking of football.....

It would seem to me that Philbin is the right man for the job....I know he (Philbin) loves the game....and it shows when he speaks...it shows on the sideline....it shows....

I am very much looking forward to a string of 3 victories....hopefully more....this team...and it's fans deserve as much....

No reason why we can't get ALL three of these.....worst case 2/3....with the Bengals being the spoiler....

I have been harping all summer about how well suited our D-Line players are for the 4-3.

The first thing I liked was the proposition of Wake returning to his Canadian position of 4-3 end.

What I really liked was our depth and vesatility with the guys inside. McDaniels was injured and we slid Odrick inside on passing down and Starks out to his natural end spot. That worked pretty good, but then even the Rookie DT Kheeston Randall showed up.

While we still need a more permanent answer at LDE for sure, we have two more rookies in Vernon and Shelby who have contributed and not looked overwhelmed or overmatched.

I know you guys have heard me going on and on about these 3 rookies, but the potential here is bigger than you think(I think-lol).

If Vernon or Shelby develops into the pass rushing LDE that we need so badly, things are looking Fan-Freaking-Tastic. Not only will we be that much better as a unit, we free up some draft picks that we have earmarked for this specific position.

Can you imagine the ramifications of not having to use one of our high picks on another end? We have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. Not having to use one on an end obviously means we can use it to address more pressing needs.

I know I’m getting ahead of myself. I know Vernon and Shelby have a LONG WAY to go. But I can’t help dreaming about how much further ahead of the game we’ll be in the long run should one of these two prove to be the Book End we so desperately need!

-Odin- ;)

Why do i even bother to come here. Its not like any of you make any sense, you just blab and blab and blab and none of you talk football it's all about who is the biggest tard or the biggest loser. Get a life! LOL

REALITY CHECK.....AGREE 100%..................

The game yesterday really gives Phins fans something to look forward to this season, lets hope we can play just as well against the Jets this Sunday

I'm happy with the win!. i like the approach coach Philphin take with the win, and I would like some 46 defense for the next game against the Jets, high pressure defense.

Its upsetting when all we do is moan. It should be a football blog but w/e its really not worth the bullshyt and hassle anymore

You have ZERO clue what you're doing. Do me a favor, ignore me til you do!

Posted by: Reality Check | September 17, 2012 at 04:40 PM

Hey......Now you're talking.

In all seriousness, I will be the first to apologize for accusing someone of being a Troll when their not.

But in all reality, I've seen your posts, I've seen when you "Show Up". And I see what you try to do when you're here.

I think everybody has. And lets be honest, it's not like you're a regular(at least not with that particular sign-in name). You're ALWAYS going against the grain. And not with debate(That would be fine), but with straight up antagonisms and name calling.

So, did I call you the resident "Monkey Boy" troll? No! And Golly Gee, "Whomever" posted that, was of course straight up lying.

Did I accuse you of trolling? Yes I did, in a "tongue in cheek" sort of way. Sorry, but thats just what I HONESTLY believe from seeing all the posts from "Reality Check".

Just like you have the right to post your opinions, so too do I. And believe me, I'll excercise my right.

If I hurt your feelings or if it was somebody impostoring you(for the past year and a half)then I will apologize like a MAN, under MY OWN sign-in name.

Either way, if the Troll was impostoring you, why would you respond about teaching Craig and I lessons? Even if you didn't want to engage "The Alledged" Troll(Ahem, cough, cough), why offend other posters and try to tell THEM how they should conduct themselves?

You see where this is going? Our names came out of YOUR mouth first. You see why your "STUFF" doesn't hold any water? Do you have the intelligence to see the implication?

SUPPOSEDLY, the Blog Troll impostors you, so in your mind the best course of action is too insult Craig, myself and a few others?

Yeah, you see, that just doesn't quite add up Bro.

Talk about finding a spin cycle........?

My continued positivity in the face of unbrideled negativity, and my almost childlike-joy at yesterday's win - - while still retaining the proper prospective & a more-needs-to-be-done mindset - - is surely noteworthy, especially when contrasted to many of the commenters on this blog.

I bust reality check red handed trolling.

He claims he was impostored(even though his fallacy made no sense in REALITY)and low and behold.....suddenly......I'm being impostored.

Will wonders never cease?

Miami Kicked arse Punk, get OVER IT ALREADY.

PS: Reality Check, don't go away mad. You did drum up some support. ALoco ;)

Bhwaaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaa!!!!

I was happy with win. Not getting my hopes up. Sparano seen to that. And after that preseason, I kind of started thinking 1-15. Who wants to watch that crapola.

Let's go Phins. Beat the Jets

Well played, kindry!

Keep a stiff upper lip, calm down & carry on.

Eff the Jets

Coalition good post at 5:13.

Reality Check,

I went back and actually looked at your supposed football posts.

Basically what you said was this:

1. Tannehill is equal to Henne.

2. Revis will tear him up.

3. Because of Revis Tannehill will have to FORCE his passes(Of course all real football fans know that QB's shouldn't try to force their passes. In those instances, they take what the D is giving and/or check down.

4. You also thanked Kris and proceeded to tell him how you give a shyt about his(or anyone elses) opinions here.

Well, I guess if being a rude obnoxious dolt and talking down Miami's starting QB, while talking up Revis and the wets is your idea of "posting football" then carry on.

But please, do it on the wets blog. Thats obviously where you belong, "The Rude Obnoxious Dolt" part was the Dead Give Away.

DISCLAIMER: Excuse me folks, but if the above isn't trolling, I don't know what is.

And I don't care if the ultra intelligent and insightful "ALoco" agrees with him or not.

It is what it is, Pal. BUSTED!

Now, can we please talk some football.

I have had an epiphany concerning this team, it's Coaches and it's Front Office.

Anybody else?

Hartline says the team is going to be "hungry" against the jets.....

Hartline knows whats at stake here......

What's so funny is that all around the league,Moreso with us, but around the league the owner and gm are broken. They just don't get it. For example, Chicago: last year why didn't they make the playoffs? Their o line, especially who could be the worst at the left tackle position in the NFC. Cutler gets hurt, their backup is awful, so they lose. So what should their priority be in the offseason? Make sure they get that line fixed, start with left tackle of course. But of all the moves, somehow some way Webb is still their starting left tackle!
Cutler is a jerk, but he is their star, and he isn't being protected. Bottom line is I look at Chicago and I see we may one of the most broken situations, but there is ineptitude elsewhere as well.

How about a big Bench slip for #19 Naanee I would rather see Marlon Moore out there. Even if Moore screws up he is still better than Naanee Watch #19 on the special teams. and #30 Clemons who cant cover, tackles like a DB and has no instincts to play FS

Do you still see Hartline as the offensive equivalent of Channing Crowder? I think you should be nice to this guy. We're going to need him if we're to get those 11 wins you've promised us....LOL.

Craig M.....

since he sat out ALL pre-season like he a 10 year vet....yes....

my perception of him has NOT changed.....

But we do need him....

He's a gamer, Kris. Preseason's for the birds.

Hartline says the team is going to be "hungry" against the jets.....
Hartline knows whats at stake here......

Posted by: Kris | September 17, 2012 at 05:54 PM

Yeah, but the question is, do **YOU** know whats at Stake Here?

Ok, Bad Joke, I'm guilty.

I know you and I are two that put our win/loss predictions pretty high. You say 11, I said 9 with some breaks and lucky bounces 10.

So, has the pre season and/or the first two weeks changed your mind any? Not just in totals, but do you feel any more confident in your prediction?

Any less confident?

Come on, you can tell us. We won't tell anyone......

Channing loved to do it during the regualr season too, when it really counted. Don't miss him even a little bit. Hartline made more plays that were impactful yesterday than Crowder made his entire career.

Craig M...

I went to a Ravens Practice during the Pre-season....2nd week I think....

RAY LEWIS was the 1ST MAN on the field (for defensive players)...and HE was 1st in EVERY drill...leading the way...taking INSTRUCTION from the coaches....being a LEADER on the field.....Making sure that EVERYONE was held accountable.....for their assignments and actions....

We need some of those guys....

Hey great Win yesterday!! We all needed it. So many positives. I say just stay the course and we will be fine.

We all want this game against the Jets!! This is a team we have to bunch in the mouth!!

Sporano thinks he is gonna unleash Tebow!! I hope he tries!!

Good point. I agree with your comments. Lewis is a winner. A surefire first ballot Hall of Famer. He's a champion, and you're right it's not a coincidence. I won't argue we could use more guys like that on this team.

after week 1 and all those batted balls....i was feeling kinda shaky.....but I still had Houston as one of the 5 losses....but still...the bad play...ugh....

but after the trouncing of the Raiders...and knowing that most of our level of competition will be similar to them...I'm back to feeling confident....

If the Pats drop another "winnable" game or two....loo for my win total to go up....

CRAIG M/CHRIS..................

Busted, what? You are pathetically desperate to be relevant here. LOL Stop pretending that I'm some anamoly, we all see it!!

The reason I called you and the other guy out is because you BOTH pollute the blog going after the trolls.

Do you see me going after every single post they make? NO. Try acting like a man, not a child. Someone is impersonating this name I'm using & I haven't said a word to him.

Difference between a man & a baby.

BTW, If that's what you took from my post about Tanny/jets D, you have an issue understanding what you read.

Funny how Kris grasped the point. So did YG. Yet, you pick me out as being a troll? Hilarity at it's best!

Also, Aloco was reposnding to the dunce using the same name. It wasn't "me" he was responding to. It's probably him using Reality Check also.

Not that I owe you anything but my foot in your as* but, I'm excited to see what Tanny will do against the Jets D.

I made ZERO hint that Revis would eat him up or that he is equal to Henne. lemme guess, I'm a closet jets fans? That's what you momo's also like to spread.

I said Henne could throw the same patterns Tanny did Sunday. I wanna see the other throws. The true test would be on Sunday. You missed the point? Go figure, what don't you miss? Anything non troll related.

You have ADD? Either way, You = fail. Keep on yapping. I fully expect you to get the last word and blah blah blah yourself through 2 more pages of useless 411. Big mouths always need the last word.

Have at it clown.

Bartender in my local bar reminds me every time I see him that we are 'the worst team in the league'. I saw him today and I said 'so after yesterday do you still feel that way'. He said 'yep. The worst'. I don't agree with him and I've told him. I think Cleveland is worse for one and I think we would all agree that Oakland is now too. I guess a case could be made for a few other teams too. This guy is a Bills fan, so it'll be intereting to see what happens to them against the team I think might be the worst, Cleveland.

Incidentally, KC better pick it up too. Through them into the conversation now too and I had them winning the division this year. Haven't looked even a little bit good the first two games of the year.

I know English might not be your first language but I fail to see where you are drawing that conclusion? I've said Miami will win FOUR games this year. Show me where I said they will win the Super Bowl. Yesterday was a convincing victory against a subpar opposition. I'm just enjoying the win, pal. They've been few and far between.

You are reeeaaaalllllyyyyy starting to tick me off clown. Do us all a favor and get lost LOL for all our sakes

I'm not saying the Jacksonville Jags are better than us, because their not. Not in my opinion anyways.

I said that to say/ask this; Has Chad Henne taken a step up in the NFL world or what?

He went from playing under SpOrano/Henning and Daboll and a woefully dated philosophy, to a Jags team that is trying to put more emphasis on getting the ball downfield.

He'll be throwing to Blackmon and handing off to MJD!

BTW-The Jags GM has planted his a ss firmly on the hot seat. He has been trying to force feed Gabbert to the Jags fans in trying to justify the no. 1 pick.

It's a mess in Jacksonville, but things are looking up for Henne!

Hey coalition with ADD, in your endless quest rant, perhaps you should have read these posts before calling me a troll.

Try & guess which one was me & who was faking my name? Let's see if you can outsmart yourself again! Pay close attn tp the last one.

Not your shoe size

Posted by: Reality Check | September 17, 2012 at 03:37 PM

Thanks Kris, of all the people here i still dont care about your opinion....but thank you

Posted by: Reality Check | September 17, 2012 at 03:10 PM

Sometimes you credit yourself a bit too much. But we will change that, over time.

Posted by: Reality Check | September 17, 2012 at 03:17 PM

kris, I don't have time nor desire to troll bloggers.

I post what I want. If people like it? Good. If they don't? Even better.

But, I won't waste time trolling. An exercise in futility.

Posted by: Reality Check | September 17, 2012 at 03:19 PM

Obviously, I am being trolled now by someone who dislikes you, Kris. 3:10 & 3:17 isn't me.

Posted by: Reality Check | September 17, 2012 at 03:24 PM

If the Pats drop another "winnable" game or two....loo for my win total to go up....

Posted by: Kris | September 17, 2012 at 06:23 PM

Thats what I'm talking Bout!

Spoken like a True Home.......ah......I mean......FAN!

(Just kidding).

I went through the same thought processes. After that 2nd quarter against the Texans I was wondering if that was a speed bump or the norm(Yikes).

It's all good though, it looks like **SOME** smooth sailing for a minute or two anyways. The wets game is going to be big in determining if we reach our "Destination".

If we get by the jets it'll be big in terms of confidence and continuity for our young team. Our record too, can you imagine us sitting at 5-3 at the halfway point? I can!

And the baby is at it again at 6:29.

This blog abosultely sucks because of you jerks.

Get you head out of your arse, you are a cancer to this place. Get lost LOL

If we get by the jets it'll be big in terms of confidence and continuity for our young team. Our record too, can you imagine us sitting at 5-3 at the halfway point? I can!

That's because you're an incoherent alchoholic.

Reality Check @ 6:36.....

It's OK....i'm used to it....

Kris, I made the football related comment you said good post to. That's when this moron took over the name.

Apparently Coalition is dumb enough to take the bait.

You can't teach dumb I guess. In any event, I'm out. The alter reaity can have his way.

People like him ruin this blog. It's a cesspool.

I'm with you.....

this is a HUGE game imo....the kind we usually come flat...and lose....

Coach'em up Philby

were a GM away from having a good team........

Reality Check, I just saw your name and I'm skipping your trolling ways-lol.

I thought we agreed to ignore each other? Come on man, you proposed it and now you can't even follow through?

Here's the facts:

You were running down Tannehill and the Phins.

You were taklking up Revis and the wets.

Then you insulted Kris and "The Rest of us" by saying you could care less about any of our opinions(which is "Special". You want us to read your garbage opinions about the wets and could care less to read ours? Puh-Lease!).

A troll alledgedly impostors you and you see fit to attack MORE posters here because we supposedly pollute the blog? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, it seems most that get ALLEDGEDLY IMPOSTORED are a little more concerned with the identity theft, than berating other posters.

Unless of course, trolling and attacking posters was your main intent to begin with.

The problem is, as usual, you were a little too slow to realize the significance of your actions. In laymans terms: You're just too dimwitted to outsmart the Dolphin Fans here.

You're actions speak louder than your words and whether you like it or not, you simply busted yourself again. Go back and re-read your OWN posts for Christs sakes if you don't believe me.

All the rest is just more of your stupid mumbo jumbo trying to spin it away from what it was you were actually doing.

You Sir, busted yourself again and as you YOURSELF proposed, I am all too willing to completely ignore your trolling.

So please, at least live up to your statements for once in your life and ignore me back.

Tahnks In Advance ;)

Who you think i really am. No one else copys everything or bothers wasting there time here like a select few. The rest of you are just dipshyt trolls seriously you have to get a life

actually, this off season is very important; I've heard we have like 60 million..

1. need to re-sign Long, Starks, Sean Smith...

2. were actually a= WR,FS,TE,OLB,CB away

so with the those 3 top picks WOW could be key

3. depending how FA shakes out, don't know who's out there?

BUT give me 2 TOP NOTCH, STUDS/STARS, IMPACT GUYS no more back up/mediocre scrubs.

anyone have some names of possible FAs.....
