Room and time to be better for Dolphins

Before we start today, let me update you on a roster move: The Dolphins re-signed defensive lineman Ryan Baker to the 53-man roster this morning because they are seemingly concerned about the injury status of Tony McDaniel, who has been injured most of the preseason and got hurt again against Houston. So there's that. With the signing the Dolphins have 52 players on the roster.

The start of the NFL season was an exciting  prospect for Joe Philbin and his coaching staff becasue, as they said, the outcome against Houston would be a gauge of where the Dolphins are at this stage of their development.

Well, now they believe they know.

And if the players didn't know based on Sunday's 30-10 loss, Philbin reminded them Sunday night during the 2 1/2 hour flight home from Houston.

"I walked to the back of the plane and visited with players and told them, 'Now you know we're you're at. This is where we are." Philbin said. "The film is what we are right now. And so we have to accept responsibility for that and move forward and improve."

The bad news is the Dolphins are not in the same orbit as a project playoff team and possible Super Bowl contender. The good news?

The schedule offers a chance for better days.

In the next 10 weeks the Dolphins have it pretty good. They have only one playoff team from a year ago crossing their path -- the Cincinnati Bengals. It can be argued they don't run into an elite quarterback during that entire time, depending on what you think of Carson Palmer or Andy Dalton.

The team is also playing at home the next couple of weeks.

Things get easier, people.

Philbin, meanwhile, is hoping that while the opponents get easier his team gets better.

Maybe Ryan Tannehill makes better decisions and makes more accurate throws -- the five passes coaches thought should have been better.

Maybe a defense that suggested it can generate pass rush with Randy Starks helping Cameron Wake actually gets it going. Maybe the offensive line which Philbin said played only "ok" and "average" gets itself together and does well.

Maybe the Dolphins add a couple of veterans. (Philbin said general manager Jeff Ireland continues to search for talent to add to the current roster. A veteran wide receiver is obviously still possible, as Jabar Gaffney continues to be out there.)

Maybe the Dolphins cut down on four give-aways. That is a formula for disaster and Sunday proved that. "We have to do a better job on our end of protection, eye control, throwing it in the open lane," Philbin said.

"This was the first time we had been in an NFL locker room before and getting ready to play in a real game," Philbin said. "So I don't know that I had any ... as I had said to you guys and said to the team, we're looking to have a reference point to find out exactly where we are so I didn't sit around and think, 'we're going to do this, that, and that.' I wanted to find out for myself where we were.

"And I think we've got a group of guys this game's important to. I think they're professional. I think they care. I think we got a lot of work to do. And hopefully they accept responsibility, as did I because I didn't coach the game well enough, nor did they play well enough for us to earn a victory.

"We did not play well enough to earn a victory. But I'm excited about going to work today and going into the team meeting and addressing the situation of where we are and where we're headed and I expect us to play better this week."

ROTFLMFAO! That was FVCKING awesome Dude!

Monkey Bu-oy, eat your heart out. You couldn't post something this kool and funny if your life depended on it. And believe me, I WISH your life depended on it!

I agree with Oscar yet again! Seriously, no more Ireland! He is the catalyst for disaster!!!

How's odin, Debo?

I would even take Odindouche over Irescum.

Oscar, I like the NEW you!

EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT OUR D FRONT 7 IS COMPETITIVE. What else?

Clueless is you. Now is the time to fire a GM. Not at the end of the season after they have led the entire draft scouting for the team. Idiots like you may think it starts in January, it's just about over by then.

See you guys? See just how stupid this dork really is?

In his over exuberance in trying to start a dumb argument, he exposes himself and how utterly retarded and CLUELESS HE REALLY is.

Whomever we may hire at the end of this season will be studying the same college players and the same upcoming free agents as all the rest of will be studying this year.

Dork Face, do you think were just going to hire somebody that has no clue about football? Somebody that pauid no attention this year?

Are you so fvcking utterly ignorant that you think we'll just go out to Wal-Mart and hire a greeeter?

OMG Dude, you fvcking retardation is EPIC!

Bhwaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

Ben, coalition Odin is the most tenured blogger! Accord him the respect that he deserves!!!

People must change with the Times, redsky. Did you see how much weigh Ray Lewis has lost? Because he understands these Times of Football and has to tackle in space and cover receivers.

But Odin, what if that Wal-mart greeter we hired was you? You could do better than Ireland....what say you?

- Oye, Oscar, you just called this guy a dog. - No importa, Julito, he's one of the oldest bloggers here. He'll understand.

Ben thinks gm's sit around waiting for Mel's mock drafts to get their board together.
Posted by: sd | September 10, 2012 at 10:45 PM

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

And he even continues on with it.

Dumbshyt doesn't realize that whomever we hire is already at work. Checking who'll be free agents and scouting the NCAA!

He thinks we'll call somebody up and they'll be like, Duh.......I been totally out of things and I have no idea whats going on. ROTFLMAO!

Personel Guys are Personel guys and they can't help doing their due diligence all season long, EVERY SINGLE SEASON!

Bhwaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

Only Mando's Good Thang is this incredibly stupid.

Just ask him. He'll still tell you: Meth hasn't affected my brain at all.

In his case, he MIGHT BE right. As stupid as he is, I guess theres a chance Meth use has made him SMARTER!

Bhwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

Ben, I'll admit that on the surface his comments seem crude, attacking and unrefined. But once you get to know him, he's a Teddy Bear.

Homers are people who see a bucket of lemonade when, in fact, its a bucket of pizz.
There is no SILVER LINING with this team. The sooner you homers get that the better.
Posted by: JackSparrow | September 10, 2012 at 10:58 PM

Speaking from experience I'm sure. Right Jack As ?

Here, I'll calm him down for you. C-Am-F-G.

Why would a good established GM come here? Why? Only someone with no other options, like Philbin, would take a job here.

I'm not trolling. I'm warning.
Consider me the Paul Revere of Miami. I'm warning you homers that the Brown Bags are coming.
Heed my warning.
Posted by: JackSparrow | September 10, 2012 at 11:03 PM

Nah.......How bout we just consider you a broken record troll who hasn't had an original thought since your boyfriend forced you..........to have one............a thought that is ;)

How I'm Doin?

Man, Ozzie drafted some great Players.

Who is winning?

You're doing alright, odin. You just can't be that much of a Homer. It does nobody no favors. Our secondary suc-s, our OL suc-s, our QBs(no excuses!) suc-, most of our receivers suc- big time. And you don't want the brown paper bags to come out? Hmm...

I didn't know there were people as dumb as Ben. All the GM's are under contract he informs us. Has it occurred to him there are only another 2899 qualified candidates out there? Guess not.
Talk about tunnel vision.
Posted by: sd | September 10, 2012 at 11:07 PM

Bhwaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaa!

He even KEEPS ON CONTINUING IN HIS STUPIDITY! This is classic Monkey Boy trying to act big and talk to the grown folks.

It still doesn't occur to him that out of the 2899 canidates HE HIMSELF MENTION, ROTFLMAO and a BIG LOLO TOO, he dowsn't realize that they'll be doing their "Home Work" this year REGARDLESS of where their at or whom they're working for.

Even after Ben explained it to him word for word-Ha Ha!

Hey Ben, maybe you should brek it down for him letter by letter-GuuuuuuuuuFFaaaaaaaaaaw!

Tunnel Vision INDEED ;)

Sorry, but I can't help it for REAL this time:

Bhwaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaaa-Again!

Pow-Pow Mutha Fvcka......Both Barrels!

OMG-Monkey Boy, I'm gonna have a drink in honor of your ignorance-lol.

OMG-If I had a cigarette I would smoke it. Like people do after having sex! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I'm enjoying this one guys, I'm sorry. Monkey Boy, was it as good for you as it was me-Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!

We Have RB's:

You have more patience than me, my man. What is it about oft-injured, fumble-prone Thomas you like? The guy gets an occasional decent run. He always drops the ball at CRITICAL times, then limps off the field. He's not fulfilling my image as the heir to Ricky, that's for sure. Sh.t, I would take Ricky TODAY with no training camp over Thomas.

Does ever a single solitary day go by without odin talking about gayness or meth? 1893 consecutive days the blog polluter has had an unstoppable urge to post about gayness or meth or both.

Posted by: Nope | September 10, 2012 at 11:15 PM

Well, when you go away, I'll THINK about stopping. No guarantees, but I'll think about it.

If the shoe fits, truth hurts, too close to home and all the others, just quit crying be-atch and TAKE "IT" LIKE A MAN(or a He/she in your case).

LincolnContinental:

Now you're getting it! Trade down TWICE in the 1st to get more 2nds! I got a better idea: Double-up on 3rds by trading down 4 times in the 2nd, then do the same with the 3rds to pick up sixteen 4th rd. picks! Excellent! More acorns!!! Then to top off this freakin' brilliant strategy, everyone gets invited to an after-draft circle-jerk contest with Ireland and his scouts. What a draft!

Not me, Kris.

But Odin, what if that Wal-mart greeter we hired was you? You could do better than Ireland....what say you?

Posted by: redsky | September 10, 2012 at 11:33 PM

SEE! SEE it! Thats the kind of HUMOR I enjoy!

That was awesome too.

PS: Fvck yes I can do a better job than Ireland. Actually it pisses me off that you even have to ask. Now that I think about it-Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Ok, just kidding, but yeah, I'm positively, absolutely CONVINCED that I can do a better job than Ireland. Maybe not better than 31 other GM's......but Ireland?

Hell Yes ;)

Fill out an application, man.

!!!! DUMB POST ALERT!!!!!!!!
Whomever we may hire at the end of this season will be studying the same college players and the same upcoming free agents as all the rest of will be studying this year.

Is Polian studying the draft or learning how to do his tv gig?
Is our GM maybe in another role right now and not studying the draft?
Is our next GM so bad he is leaving his current team to come here?
Do you think Ozzie is coming here?

I read your post and it made me feel drunk!

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh! It's like Cryptonite! No........no.......NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

You got me Oscar. Thats actually an awesome progression. If you're going to play in that particular Key/Progression, it always works out and sounds really sweet when you tune down a half step.

OMG-Now I'm thinking of all the beautiful songs I've heard using that progression.

DAMN YOU OSCAR!

But, but...both of those Teams playing on TV now su-k big time. Similar to Us.

How about with that progression, odin, Goodnight my love(Goodnighht), pleasant dreams....

With that song, every Dance used to close. Then we would hold them tighter, whoever they were.(some People used to take them to the Canal and jer- them off). Hmm...

There, you see how Junior tackled? That's the way to do it.

P Burress and K Winslow!

Sometimes, you are as dumb as a rock without a proper Education and your only alternative to survive is to play Football. Then you come with the concussions and the suicide BS? Educate yourselves, mofos!!

Anybody see the John Clayton commercial during halftime?

He has good taste in MUSIC!

If we could ever force a team to punt, next week would be the time.

Oakland is in big trouble.

Trade them Denney for a 1st round pick-lol!

Odin, it's Kryptonite, not Cryptonite, just saying, 'cause I knows U likes 2B Rite, all D time!!!! Hey Bro, heard a Joe Walsh concert on Palladia (DirecTV) and thought of you. Need to catch you in action!

Oscar, did you ever meet or talk to Jr. Seau? I did! It wasn't concussion, it was PTSD.

I was a fan when it was great. I am a fan now. The early 70's and 80's have passed but still here I am a Miami Dolphin fan. I have thought of rooting for another team but I cannot. Why does this once proud NFL team consume my heart? I long for better days and Sunday or Monday nights when the Dolphins would play on a national stage and everybody would hope they would lose. Now this is forgotten because the whole country knows they are gonna lose anyway. I hope they can get back to being the team noboby wants to see win again because those days sure were fun. Now we are the team that cannot win period. I hate this fuggin current ownership and the way this once proud team has slipped into oblivion.

Dude, were you an a bortion gone awry? Maybe they threw the baby away and your Mom kept the after birth?
Whats your excuse? Meth use? You were **You know whatt-e** by your wierd Uncle and liked it?

I don't think I know a wasted piece of skin and air than you Man. For Real. You stuff isn't funny. You sure don't help the hit numbers even though you pitifully try. You constantly post about sick, demented and down right dumb a ss shyt.
-----------------------------------------------

I post about Football. You see? I usually get off about one post before you start the same old boring tired shyt that pisses everyone off and makes them hate you. Dude, you are so pathetic, I'll bet money if you had a dog, even your dog would hate you. Probably for what you would be doing to him with peanut butter when no onesa looking. But thats another story for the animal cops miami show.

The point is, I post about FOOTBALL and about how one retarded, taking it up the rear Meth Head ruins the Dolphins In Depth Blog. Thats it.

Which by the way, brings up a good question about why Armando lets you continue. Knowing about your blown out lips and a nus and your bad Meth habit, my best guess is you pay off the man with "services(ahem)" and TRY to drum up hits for hits. Blog Hits for Meth Hit Money. That's just my theory.

The fact is, you are a troll. That is someone who constantly posts a bunch of dumb crap for no other reason than to fvck with people. The level you take it too obviously shows you have deep pyschological problems(which by the way, back up my wierd uncle, gay meth head, taking it up the a ss dog fvcker that most assuredly you are).

Now I know you're a bit to retarded to see the difference, but it's there Tardo boy. If one of your 10 dollar tricks committed a hate crime and killed you, the judge would let him off as a justifiable homicide. The Judge would figure the guy was just putting you out of your misery. And we can tell, you are certainly miserable.

Which by the way, isn't our fault either. If being a coward was going to screw you up so bad, you shouldn't have BAILED on the REVOLUTION! Sissy FeeAgg!

Sorry if the truth hurts Bro, but you know it's true.

Sorry the rest of YOU GOOD bloggers had to see this.

Oakland has some playmakers, but they also have some big troubles.

Palmer seems easily rattled and for good reason. The O-line doesn't look so good.

The defense doesn't look all that bad to me, but what do I know.

PS: Derek Hagan? Hmmmmmmmmm.......that name sounds as familiar as Anthony Armstrong. Go figure.

PSS: Steeter looks like a budding star!

Still a winable game, but with our talent levels, we'd have to play almost error free. Take away the bungled snaps on the punts and they were giving the chargers all they could handle.

Been reading up on medical MJ.
I want to try that OG Kush aka Skywalker OG.
I have medical justification including xrays, MRI, and prescriptions from primary MD.
But I live in a state without medical MJ laws and so I'm willing to travel and pay a little more if necessary.

I HATE what philbin and mando an everyone else is saying about that damn game. It should all focus on one point and one only: we scored 3 points. No tds on offense. That's it. We couldn't even score in the 4th of a blowout game.
Our receiving core, I believe, is the worst that has ever been fielded on an nfl team. The only player who can catch a pass past ten yards is hartline, and he has regressed and only does it because the defense doesn't respect him.
This year, our offense will be more horrendous than it has been, and that's saying something. What's worse, is this schedule is as easy as the 2008 team, where everyone credited chad Pennington but our leading receivers were? Ronnie brown and Ricky Williams - and on every third and 7 he threw it 6 yards to get a completion but one of the worst 3rd and long numbers in the history of the nfl.
And we either now, four years later! Have the same receivers or worse. NONE should start for an nfl team. Ireland should be more ashamed than philbin, because he will never address it, and when e does with Marshall, he trades him for less than he cost. Philbin at te end should just be fired for taking a horrible offense and talentless secondary and making it worse.
If we were halfway decent, we'd be 3-1 or at least 2-2 going into cincy. We will see.

But I live in a state without medical MJ laws and so I'm willing to travel and pay a little more if necessary.

Posted by: Kris | September 11, 2012 at 02:33 AM

Kris, I have a nephew that is a legitimate grower. The laws put a temporary skid on everything for about a month. It was soon after he started doing really well with it. Matter of fact, so well he quit a very good job to expand and max out his liscense.

Anyway, even if you travel out of your state to obtain it, medical reasons aside, wouldn't you still be at risk of criminal charges? I believe crossing state lines would constitute a federal jurisdiction.

Just curious if you've considered these things. Or if maybe you know something I don't?

Inimounts,

I agree some questionable moves were nade. Like you say, especially at WR.

But are you really saying Philbin should be let go just one game into his Head Coaching career? I know you said "In the end", but you state it like your minds made up.

Just curious if that's your position, opinion, belief, etc, etc.

I think the release of Marshall was need and was made for some obvious reasons. The no. 1 being our Youth Movement at QB. Also, in addition to being a distracting head case, Marshall is inching ever so close to a lengthy suspension. I originally-BRIEFLY didn't like it. But after considering everything and looking at the bigger picture, I agree with the move.

Now, could we have gotten more? Maybe. Should we have had a better contingency plan? Definitely. Should we have at least drafted a WR higher(Like Stephen Hill whom I had in my mock and who scored TWO TD's for the wets Sunday)? Absolutely!

But all the questionable aspects of the Marshall dealings lay directly in the lap of Jeff Ireland and **HIS** scouting staff.

I personally believe that Philbin should get all the amenities and benefits of the doubt that First Year Head Coaches would get. The **ONLY** way I see Philbin's job coming into jeoprody is if we have a very similar season to Cam Camorons year. Philbin would have eff it up good in my opinion too. Cam did all sorts of loopy things. On the sideline during games, at practices, not the least of which was losing the locker room and letting Joey Porter punk him out in front of the team.

I think Philbin's job is safe for this years and next and I strongly agree that it should be.

ValHalla!!!!

Coal,
I'm not talking ounces.
I'm talking a quater-oz or maybe half-oz once a month.
That's it.
The medical Justification has been in place for 10+ years.
A hookup where I can get a small quantity of quality.

Thats Kool. And if you keep it kool we can talk. But you forgot to change your sign in name back to Kris-Doh!

(Sigh.....for a sec I thought you were Kris)

Anywhoo, I have to stay up until I get the kids on the bus. It's the only way I can manage lately. My insurance company is totally effing me around on getting my neck and THEN shoulder surgeries scheduled. It's getting so bad, I can't get by to good without my kids help. So I stay up all night and sleep while they're gone.

Thank God I got some good Kids that don't mind helping out!

Dr Mr. Lincoln Continental,

I've often wondered.......are you a Mark 4 or the Special Edition Mark 5?

What year are you? How many miles on the Ole Drive Train? If I kick your tires, do you feel it? Would you say ouch?

Have you been in any High Speed car chases? Maybe stuffed some "Contra-Band" in the trunk while crossing a border? You Continentals are known for having Big WIDE.........er.........trunks.

Anywhoo.......it was nice talking to you and I will be looking forward to your reply.

Oh and one more thing Mr. Continental, I was wondering, If I was driving you, would you talk to me?

Would you be my Kit and me your David Hasselhoff?

With all the impostoring I'm sure theres more but that was just this blog alone. No wonder he keeps messing up his sign in names. I'm surprised he doesn't do it more often.

If you think about it, Ohio Dolphin has more real posters at his Dolphin Blog. That truly is amazing.

If Kris, Phins78, Fin4life, Coalition and Mark In Toronto leave, this buffoon will have the place all to himself. I would include YG/DB in this group, but according to the few bloggers left he's one of them LOL.

This troll has chased away all the old regulars. Since Armando's last vacation most of them have not returned. No wonder he pollutes the place so bad. He has to make up for the lost hits he is responsible for.

Sad but True.

Odinstank is trying to be like Soiled Bottom.

I doubt you are coherent enough to relize half of what you write.

Have mommy tuck you in and leave the night light on.

You catch alot of colds in the basement?

I am WHADA.

Crazy all the venom toward Fatcells, er, Parcells. He isn't the reason we are where we are today. Gotta harken back all the way to the Silver Sloth - JJ. He started the ruination of what used to be our Miami Dolphins. He & Wayne H. (the garbage man - fitting). Big name - Jimmie Johnson (did OK, then QUIT & left us w/ Wanny)
Big name - Satan (stunk, then QUIT)
No name - Scamoron (stunk, then RAN)
Big name - Fatcells (stunk, then QUIT)
Its just been one bad move after another since Wayne H. unceremoniously threw Don Shula to the curb. In a way the Dolphins deserve these past 15 yrs. - though it sure sucks to be a fan & have to watch it all fall apart the way it has.
I'm not an Ireland fan at all, doesn't see REAL talent but I'm hoping Philbin can be the guy. We don't know yet certainly but I like his demeanor, I like his accountability, his professionalism. I sure hope they hit on Tannehill (there are encouraging signs) but that might mean Ireland sticks & thats just not good long term.

Armando.....If we had a GM with b@lls and knew what he was doing fine i wouldnt mind the rebuilding period as it is said to be...But with a jerk like Ireland theres just no hope.."The problem lies atop" Ross and Ireland..They gotta go ASAP!!

I like your post, I feel the same way you do, I've been here once in a while and I found most of the people that post here are clue-less, I'm a regular over at Greg Cote's blog here on the Herald, we talk a little bit about everything, from politics to the Dolphins..

check it out.

Warfield42,

your right about the Dolphins slide started under Jimmy Johnson but Parcells is the main reason we are in this current mess, NOT IRELAND'S, must of the Einstein's here don't really have a clue, Ireland is trying to fix the problems that he inherited from the Tuna, he is doing a very credible job.

or course most of the bloggers here are like ten year olds and don't really have a lot of common sense.

Sounds like PHILBIN is throwing Ireland under the BUS....

I like it....

=======================================================
Kris that's what it sounded like to me also. Moreover two rookies drafted in the 3rd and 4th round were inactive for the Texans, Egnew and Miller. That should send a message to Ireland on his drafted players and how he has not helped this team win now.
