« AFC East one big happy knot | Main | Philbin: 'We have a million miles to go' »

Without getting too crazy, things are looking up

When it was over Joe Philbin was dancing. And owner Stephen Ross was sort of dancing.

The Dolphins won their home opener for the first time since 2005 on Sunday and it should be a feeling worthy of being savored, as I write in my column today, because the Dolphins have been losing way too many home games in recent years and this was a departure from that.

So walk around with your head held high today, Dolphins fan. Feel good about this one.

But remember ... just as last week's opening loss was not the end of the season, Sunday's victory was not its culmination. This season is a process and Sunday was a step.

It was a nice step. A fun step. A feel-good step.

But only one step.

So please, all of you sending me e-mails or tweets that Miami is playoff-bound because it is tied for the AFC East lead at 1-1, you need to stop.

The Dolphins merely did what they were supposed to do. Remember that. Even I picked Miami to win this game and I stink at picking games. The Dolphins beat a team that had one less day to prepare after playing on Monday night, then had to travel across the entire country and play in black uniforms in temperatures that took a toll in the second half.

As one Dolphins official put it, "A decade ago this victory would have been overlooked because we would win games like this all the time."

How times have changed when some fans think beating Oakland is a huge deal. The truth is the Dolphins have pretty much blown out the Raiders each of their last three games. So again, this was good. But it wasn't the defining moment of the season. So tap the brakes a little bit.

I will say this:

The game offered positive signs.

Ryan Tannehill continues to impress because he continues to improve. He's playing like a solid game-manager quarterback right now. That's a compliment because, remember, the guy is a rookie. He's not making mistakes. He's not costing his team turnovers. He is making some plays that are helping the cause. That's really quite good for a rookie at this stage.

The defense is playing very stout against the run. The offensive push is very good in the running game to the point Reggie Bush is second in the NFL in rushing today behind only Buffalo's C.J. Spiller.

So there are good signs. There is progress.

Again, that doesn't mean this team is going to the playoffs. Sunday was one day, one game.

But it does mean that good things seem to be happening for the Dolphins. Finally.

Carig M,

Did you miss the title of this thread? "Without getting crazy"?

You are the TYPICAL IGNORANT HOMER FAN.

Not only did you get crazy, you got your panties wet n twisted to boot.

1 win over a team in worse shape than ours & you sit here & ignorantly preach the Ireland support bit.

Do you think the fan base is as DUMB as you are?

1 win vs. 5 seasons bud. Keep it real. I know that's hard for you considering you live in a bubble but, try.

You embarass yourself daily.

Great win!

Raiders: 9 different receivers caught balls
Dolphins: Bess, Hartline, Fasano (Ok, include Bush)

The lack of quality receivers is gonna kill us at times. Cut Nanee, or send him to the practice squad and activate someone else. Coaches dumped 7-11 because he didn't play big enough. Wheres Fuller? Someone please tell me what they see in Nanee that he deserves to start. They were cutting guys right and left on Hard Knocks for what I see Nanee doing. He has been invisible since they signed him.

Sign a veteran that can teach these guys to get open please!

I said it before the only thing that really matters about this season is the progression of Ryan Tannehill. After getting his first tuition bill for life as an NFL rookie QB last week, he showed up in spades this week. Produced two TDS and made some fearless throws. Considering I was beating the drum for Tannehill as the #1 pick as much as anyone, my expectations for the kid was the follow the development of Jake Locker who i saw as a similar prospect but he is miles ahead of where Locker was last year and may even be better than him now. Certainly was not expecting that.

I'm proud of the guy and think he will bring a unique blend of athleticism and smarts as well as being a pretty good pocket passer for this team. I think we should be greatful for having him. I think he will get to where he needs to be eventually. This pup bites.

Kris/Craig,

Not to puncture our high, I'm only cautiously-optimistic about this week vs. Jets. I'm sure Revis will be back (and will probably cover Hartline), so I'm hoping Thomas will come back too.

I think Tannehill needs to take what he learned with Hartline, and apply it to the other positions (Bess' side, TE). He knows the system, now he's learning how to beat defenses, and he's smart, when he gets it, he should be really good. But defenses now have those plays RT is comfortable with on tape. How will Jets adjust, and how do we adjust?

I'm sticking with my goal markers. Not record, but improvement. And we won the test this week. We improved from last week. Now we need to improve this upcoming week. I want to see better coverage in our secondary. More pressure on the QB up front. Want RT to be more accurate. Those to me are the keys to this upcoming game.

DC,

The reality is that the Jets will be angry after being embarassed yesterday. They come ready to play. Obviously Revis makes a difference. We're not a very good football team yet and probably won't be this year. I'm glad the team could get some confidence from yesterday but like the Cowboys found out in Seattle yesterday it needs to be tempered. I think we have a chance Sunday but by no means am I thinking we'll win.

Mark, right on.

16 games people. Shorter than baseball, basketball, hockey, almost every major sport Season. One win isn't nothing.

the fins aren't as good as this win and aren't as bad as the texans loss.

the thing i liked most from last week to this was the response of the coaching staff. they saw what went wrong in game one and fixed it!! even with the lead they dictated instead of huddling up the still went no huddle. just let the play clock run down while doing it. it limited the raiders substitution. i've been an ardent ireland defender on these blogs and continue to stand behind HIS moves. meaning the last two offseasons and last years team. are there still holes? YES. and i can absolutely say they most likely won't get fixed this season. i hope they don't if it means trading picks!! we are going to have a lot of ammo next draft. i think this years draft/RFA's are the best rookie class in many YEARS. i think we need to make mathews active next week and deactivate naanee. mathews would be added to a long list of 1st years guys making an impact!! tannehill, miller, lane, martin, vernon, thigpen and randell. have an even better draft next year and this team is a young playoff team with cap space. ireland deserves credit for quickly separating himself from the parcells way of doing things. he hired a far more aggressive head coach who thinks on his feet and does a great job adjusting to what's going on. he brought in a great DC who immediately whet tho the 4-3. a scheme that matches our personnel. our line is the strength of the defense. they didn't get to palmer much but they came close an awful lot and rattled him. sanchez play horrible when pressured. the will do a great job against the run. hopefully putting the ball in sanchez's hands. they will get their yards but hopefully not a lot of points. just like in the raiders game.

i am going to raise my hopes a tiny bit with this win and go from 5 wins to 7. IF they can do i against the jets defense then i'll get REALLY excited. but i'm staying even keeled for right now. go fins!!

Mark,

Excellent post at 9:56am. I know you and I were two who were strongly in support of the team picking Tannehill at 8. Like you, I saw a similar type of progression for him that Locker took last year. I wans't a fan of him starting right away, with the one caveat being, if he clearly outplayed the others in camp he should start. I'm going to continue to reserve judgement on whether that's best for him long term but I have to say I'm very happy with what I've seen so far. This early and with this talent on the team, people can't expect any more than this right now. There's going to be bumps and the idiots will come out again demanding his benching but I love his smarts and athleticism. When was the last time we has a QB this athletic, who can move around the way he does and still throw the ball? I'll say Fiedler but I don't even believe Fiedler had this type of athleticism.

We won a game! Lets throw a parade!

agreed w/ Tdeck

jaison,

Excellent post @10:07 am. You make a lot of really good points. The one I really like is this idea that Ireland is open to change and to a new way of doing things. No way Philbin would have been hired by Parcells. No way Parcells would have let him have the control he has now. I said it before, I believe the combination of Philbin and Ireland could be very successful. They are both bright guys and I believe they will work well together. How refreshing to have a head coach who can stand at the podium and we can understand. Probably no coincidence the players didn't understand what Sparano was asking a lot of the time....they couldn't understand him. Philbin has been firm but fair with the players so far. Make no mistake....this is HIS team. And I think Ireland is OK with that. Let's see how it all turns out.

I thought I was tough, but these kids nowadays are killers, man(I guess is the Call to Duty stuff).

Steve M,

No one is throwing a parade. If you don't want to part of the celebration, then that's your choice. I'm sticking with my prediction of 4 wins. But I'm going to savour each and every one of them, so warning, if this bothers you, don't show up here the day after a victory. There's a number of us TRUE Dolphin fans who are going to bask in the glow of victory. Nobody is saying you have to be a part of it. It's a free country....or countries, as the case may be.

One night one August, - Oscar, do you know you are talking to only 2 guys in here? - I know.

Just an observation. It seems to me a lot of you guys hate Craig more than you love the Dolphins. As a fan, whether I agree with Craig or not, I would MUCH RATHER have to man up and admit I was wrong to him on Mondays, because that probably means the team won.

I would love nothing more than to come here in January and bow down to Kris with his 11-5 prediction. Because if Kris is right, sure it means I was wrong, but more importantly, it means my team is better than I thought. And that's what it's all supposed to be about.

If Craig or Kris or anyone else here wasn't a Dolphins fan, I'd have nothing ever to say to you most likely (since we all run in different circles). We're all tied to the team.

Don't lose sight of what it's all about, not individual posters, but the Miami Dolphins.

Give it up to Philbin for winning his 2nd game of his career as a HC with a rookie QB in his 2nd game of his career. Not an easy thing to do. It was great to see that we didn't look dead, lifeless, & unprepared at home like we did in the last two seasons. I also think the players & the rest of the coaches deserve a lot of credit. I thought we were worse than we are & was concerned if we could win more than three games this year.

First thing we need to do is to stop the run against the Jets which I believe we can & will. Next thing--which is going to be more difficult--is to establish the run against them. Like us they have a very good run defense. This is a very difficult game to predict & I'm curious to see who Sparano tries to target. Although Sparano might have done a poor job as a HC the guy knows our strengths & weaknesses on defense.

Cheers, DC. Methinks your comments will be lost on the masses. Too thick and stubborn to get what you mean.

Anyone trying to push Ireland onto anyone after 1 friggin game is obviously clueless & stupid.

Nothing like making a mountain out of an ant hill.

Just goes to show you how desperate the fans are for any kind of sucess. They'll take 1 meaningless win over an inferior oppononet & try to justify progress.

Sad.

We Have RB's,

Very good post. I expect heavy doses of Tebow in this game. The Dolphins have been pretty good so far in shutting down the run but it'll be interesting to see what they do with Tebow. Jets are banged up right now and it'll be to see if Revis, Green and their TE play. I also saw Holmes take a couple of big hits in yesetrday's game. Advantage Sparano knowing this personnel and Ryan will have a good game plan against Tannehill. It'll be interesting to see how Philin counters this and what adjustments he makes. Worst thing that could happen to this team is to come out flat after a good victory, as Dallas did yesterday. Don't want them believing the press and believing they are a good team. Treat it as a 16-13 victory and come out ready to play on Sunday.

Don't be such a killjoy Armando. Yes...obviously...not playoff bound we know. But at least I FINALLY get to watch an offensive scheme on Sundays that looks modern, that looks like it could actually result in an 80 yard drive. Tannehill looks like the real deal too.

Also, our D-line is killing it. Soliai at 6 mil a year looks like a major steal and Starks continues to be a beast. Misi's looked great these last two weeks.

My one stinker complaint...man Clemons sucks! Did you see the angle he took on that screen? That's basic football fundamentals. 3 years in, still waiting for him to make some kind of play.

"Don't lose sight of what it's all about, not individual posters, but the Miami Dolphins."

DC,

People have lost sight of what this blog is for a LONG time ago. I may strongly disagree with what other Dolphin fans may think about this team but what bothers me is the people who just post negative or inappropriate comments who are NOT fans of this team. Perhaps the 'fire Ireland' or the 'Tannehenne' or 'the Cam Philbin' will subside for ONE day.

Jesus says 'I embarrass myself daily'. This coming from a guy that can't even put his own name to his posts.
I have nothing further to add. It's clear Sir, that you are not a fan of this team and are only here to cause problems. You've picked the wrong guy to talk to, so I'm going to bring our talk to an end. Stick to turning water into wine.

Posted by: Craig M | September 17, 2012 at 10:03 AM

Same for you Mr. Ego Maniac.

Humor is obviously not your strong suit.

Stick to pretending to know something about football.

Reality Check,

You're not EVEN man enough to give credit where credit is due. We were told 'Hartline is a bust'. 'Miller is nothing more than a 4th round bust'. 'Tannehill was a major reach at 8'. 'Martin isn't strong enough for the NFL'. blah, blah, blah,,,

REALLY man? You can't even man up after a convincing victory like yesterday? 'Inferior opponent'? Is that like Arizona going to New England and beating NE? Is that the kind of inferior opponent you are talking about? Like Washington going to No last week and beating them? Like Cleveland almost beating Philly at home last week? Is THAT the type of inferior oppponent you're talking about. It's called PARITY, bub! Check it out some time. Says here, anyone can beat anyone, any given week. Kind of how Buffalo can look so bad one week and so good the next. Jets the reverse.

What's sad is someone like you who doesn't get that. Who can't put his name to his posts and more than likely has a million aliases on here. A Dolphin fan?....PFFT? You're probably not even a fan of football, right? You probably get off, changing your name all the time and arguing with people about things you know nothing about. That's what's SAD.

haha, what a tool dragonfly is. "I didn't see it and I'm not impressed". pff, great having contributions from people as observant as this.

Agreed RBs.

Reality,
It's not a "meaningless win". Every game counts in the NFL (the 4 PreSeason games are the only "meaningless" games played).

Also, if you're saying Raiders are an "inferior team," then that's a boost of Miami too. Means we're not the worst team in the league (like some have suggested). Some even said Philbin is Cam Cameron. Well, Cam won his first game in Week 15. Is that not a bit of overhyping how bad we're "supposed" to be?

Jesus,

You still here? Don't you have people to heal or locusts to get rid of or something?

You're not even a fan, Jesus....why are you here? Shouldn't you be hanging out with Tebow?

"Very good post. I expect heavy doses of Tebow in this game. The Dolphins have been pretty good so far in shutting down the run but it'll be interesting to see what they do with Tebow. Craig,

I think I'd feel more confident if we were generating a more consistent pass rush the last two games. It has become very obvious to me that if you get pressure on Sanchez & move him around he will look no better than a backup.

What the Jets try to do with Sanchez (Schottenheimer & now Sparano) is have him get rid of the ball as quickly as possible (like they did with the opening TD to Holmes) & when that happens Sanchez looks competent BUT when you disrupt his rhythm or force him out of his comfort zone he struggles.

Just want to check in before work and say great win Dolphins! Full disclosure I predicted Oak 13 Miami 10 on Friday. Didn't think Bush had days like that still in him. Best of all was Tannehill's improvement. It was all we could ask for.

Steve M,

Posted by: Craig M | September 17, 2012 at 10:19 AM

You don't need any excuses to celebrate the perceived accomplishments of Jeff Ireland.

We Have RB's,

You're dead right. The key to getting to Sanchez is to not let him get in a rythymn. I'm not a fan but he got in a rythymn against the Bills and he looked very good. Same thing during those playoff runs. The Jets are good at moving him around and trying to confuse the defence. He's good when the balls comes out quickly, as you mentioned. I'm interested to see if he gets frustrated by all the Tebow changeups. The Jets haven't used Tebob much so far but if they struggle we'll see more of him.

What the Dolphins have to avoid again is mistakes. They can't hand the game to the Jets. If Tannehill can play error free football again we have a chance. I'ma also hoping Thomas is back and healthy. I thnk he can wear their defence down.

Agreed Craig M,

It's Quiet in here when it wins.

But Sir

U are NOT the MOST OPTIMISTIC FIN FAN! 4-12? Really!

Dashi has us going 9-7, and Kris has it 11-5.

Bur Still GO FINS!! Dashi is Predicting the 1st Home Shutout in a While 17-0!!

Our D isn't that good but the JETS OFFENSE SUCKS, And We know it's INCOMPETENT Leader!!

This Week Will be a Screen Week. Dashi Predicts Screen to Lane. AND REVIS ISLAND GETTING TSUNAMI"D!!! Out For Season Truck runs Over Smart Car!!

Also TO THE CLOWN SAYING THE OLINE SUCKS!

WHO BLOCKS FOR 200+ YDS RUSHING. WHO LEADS ON THE ZONE RUN TO THE LEFT WITH NO TE HELP!! Right Hand DE, Left Hand LB. T-Hill got Sacked 1 time and Hit 4 Times(2 Pass Deflected). Really That's a Pounding. Last Week he Got hit 5 times and Sacked 3(8 PD's).

Dashi says the O-line was Solid. And Oakland Has a Solid Front Seven. Good D-Line and LB's.

What Dashi likes about sherman's Scheme is that he Let's the Rb Choose his Hole. Too many times last Year Bush wouldn't bounce outside because The Play was Designed to go ONE-WAY. Predicatble Sporano. This Scheme Plays Well into Bush's Style.

If Coalition is Right and Miller is Turman Thomas Like. That's alot better than Dashi Comparing D.Thomas To Ronnie Brown! Even If Miller is Half as Good as Thurman Thomas, That's still Better than Twice as Good as Ronnie Brown.

The Wr's? Cut Naanee or make him Inactive. Rather have 4 RB's than 5 Wr's Active. Heck Dashi will even Activate Egnew as a Wr than Play Naanee another Down. This to me is the only Problem Dashi has with Philbin.

Why is Naanee Playing. Yes, He's Cut his Playing time Down. But Dashi only wants to see Naanee on Special Teams. And Not Even.

Dashi Wants to see Naanee on another Team.

Please Mando Tell me Armstrong is Starting over Naanee this Week in Practice. That Hartline is With the 1st Team.

Dashi,

I'm sticking with my prediciton. We're going to lose some games we SHOULD win. It's all part of having a young QB and some holes on the team. There's going to be breakdowns with the secondary, as we saw yesterday and games where Tannehill just doesn't have it. Happens to everyone.

Btw, if it's not clear to everyone by now, Chris Clemmons needs to be reaplced this offseason. He gets beat WAY too often. I'm OK with Jones (although not great) but safety is a definite weakness on this team.

no picks thrown by the rook was huge

but let's hope we get some more options in the deep passing game bcse i can see the jets cheating on those sideline throws to hartline and taking 1 to the house

go phins!!!

Jaison, Craig, I agree with giving Ireland some more rope. I was not convinced about the guy but I thought he was amazing at last year's draft. That bought him another year I thought. That and if we bring in another GM, it may lead to another total rebuild and I don't think I can stomach another just yet.

I think there has been enough done by Ireland to merit keeping the course. A lot of people think they should be SB contenders after five years but if you don't have the Qb, that won't happen. Missed on the first guy (Henne), let's see what happens to the 2nd. In addition, that was pretty much an expansion team Ireland and Parcells took over. Think about it - the only guy we have on this roster that is a major contributor that was here beforehand is Soliai - that is nowhere near enough. The best teams have leaders that are in their 5th year plus... we rely way too much on guys that are too young in their careers. That is not good. I don't think Ireland is the best, but I think he's good enough to win with given time especially if he has a few more years like last year.

"What the Dolphins have to avoid again is mistakes. They can't hand the game to the Jets. If Tannehill can play error free football again we have a chance. I'ma also hoping Thomas is back and healthy. I thnk he can wear their defence down."

Craig,

With Revis coming back someone other than Hartline or Bess needs to step up in a big way. Unfortunately I have seen nothing so far to indicate that we have that player on our roster. I hope it's Armstrong b/c it's certainly not Naanee.

Reality check! The O line was horrible! Tannehill was average at best. Take out Reggie Bush and the team had a good chance to lose! The play calling is horrible. Not a lot of throws in the middle of the field for 20 yards. Mainly because the O line was leaking like the titanic!

Posted by: dolfnman | September 17, 2012 at 09:48 AM

Reality check dolfnman: The OLine was ALRIGHT. Too much pressure but they sured up the line in the second half (made adjustments). Tannehill was a great game-manager. He made 0 mistakes/bad decisions, a few late throws (meaning they were 1 second off, that comes with time and experience learning the speed of the game). Take Reggie Bush out and you have Lamar Miller who looked good with his limited time. Take out Reggie's 2 TDs and you have a 21-13 victory instead of 35-13, and Miller is suppose to be equally as elusive so you never know. Not a lot of throws to the middle of the field but why bother when the Dolphins OWNED the sidelines? That's Tannehill's strong point, right? His deep outs? They played to his strength. It worked. Keep on hating though cause I LOVE IT!!!

DC @10:22

You're right. It would be nice to own up on Mondays when your team wins because even though you were wrong your team got a victory, in essence, how can a troll lose? But they don't see it that way. They think that their opinion on this blog is held in such high regard that they would rather bash their team than admit they were wrong and fear sounding like a hypocrite.

News flash: when we win I'm happy, when we lose I'm PO'd. Why? Cause I'm a fan.

We Have RB's,

I'm expecting a low scoring game next week against the Jets. Run game will be key. Can we run on the Jets? Can we shut down Tebow and Green. If we're giving up huge chunnks of run yardage it could be a problem. Sparano will know if they can keep our defence on the field in the heat they can wear them down. It'll be a good tussle, as it always is with the Jets.

Mark, great points at 11:01. If guys want more change and chaos and upheaval then go ahead and get rid of Ireland. But expect a new HC, new coaches, new players and new philosophies. I've said it should be 3 years of these two together. I want to see how the team looks and plays with 11 draft picks and FA adds this offseason. Give Philbin the players he wants and let's go.

I'm excited about the future but let's be real everyone... this was the Raiders. The Raiders are a mess. The secondary gave up big yardage. This was Carlson Palmer, not Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers. You get the picture. Savor the win, but don't let Ireland off the hook if we stumble again this year

Jesus,
You still here? Don't you have people to heal or locusts to get rid of or something?

You're not even a fan, Jesus....why are you here? Shouldn't you be hanging out with Tebow?

Posted by: Craig M | September 17, 2012 at 10:45 AM

God you're pathetic. Again, you're not funny, stop trying so hard. It looks even worse.

I'm not a real fan? LMAO Why, because you don't think I am? That's a good one!

What defines a real fan, you? So, I need to plug Ireland every chance I get to be considered a real fan? I need to suckle his teet every day to be a real fan?

That's called a homer. You are text book definition of a sucker!

You even admit it's a 4 win team. Yet, you sit here & continue to plug Ireland as if we should be grateful to have a 4-5 win team.

You are officially a turd. At least I'm consistent. ireland has sucked every minute of his 4+years. To you, he's good when we win.

Again, you're an emrassment. I'm not the only who sees it either, trust me.

Jaison, Craig, I agree with giving Ireland some more rope. I was not convinced about the guy but I thought he was amazing at last year's draft. That bought him another year I thought. That and if we bring in another GM, it may lead to another total rebuild and I don't think I can stomach another just yet.

Mark,

Last year's draft or this year's draft??? Last year we hit on Pouncey & hopefully Thomas. Am I missing someone????

I think this year's draft has a MUCH better chance of being great.

To the haters, go look at Philbin's locker room speech to the team. If that does nothing for you, if you really feel nothing, then my advice is to go find another team to root for. You're dead inside and nothing can save you....not even Jesus on here.

Most of you won't even do it because all you want to do in life is hate and that's fine too. It's your choice, your life, enjoy.....

It's amazing how prescient my comments & predictions have been.

Having predicted it, and having risen-above the Neg-Heads on this blog, I believe thanks & congratulations are in order.

We Have RB's,

Mark is referring to the draft in April. Some of us think of THIS year draft as the draft next April. Whatever...

By the way, didn't Jesus used to be a good guy? When did he become so mean and angry?

"I'm excited about the future but let's be real everyone... this was the Raiders. The Raiders are a mess. The secondary gave up big yardage. This was Carlson Palmer, not Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers. You get the picture. Savor the win, but don't let Ireland off the hook if we stumble again this year"

I'm not saying to let Ireland off the hook after the second week of the season BUT I think if Tannehill & the rest of this draft continue to improve it MAY be good enough to save his job. Anyone who is overly critical at this point of Tannehill REALLY doesn't know anything about the NFL or the QB position. The kid has definitely exceeded the expectations of most of the "experts" who said that he needs to sit & learn for at least a year.

Craig, I agree on Clemons. And still think Naanee is trash. Misi has been impressive though.

"By the way, didn't Jesus used to be a good guy? When did he become so mean and angry?"

LOL@Craig. I think he's angry about the riots in the Middle East.

Jesus,

Save the haters on here if you can. They are many and they are lost. We forgive them for their sins and we ask you to do the same. They are lost inside and it's no their fault they are Dolphin haters or Jets and Pats fans. Help them see the light and let them out of their dark world. Many of them are in mouring this morning after a big Dolphin victory yesterday. Help them to heal and let them see the error of their ways. Help them to string a sentence together, using proper grammar and punctuation. Welcome them into the world of Dolphin football, where there is hope a belief.

If you can of course...

...So onto the jets..Hopefully we keep some momentum riding into this next Sunday.

We did a lot of good things yesterday. The front 7 played great. Soliai, and Starks have been playing at a Pro Bowl level for their positions(Yeah I said it..It's true too) Obviously Tannehill had a good game. The offensive line actually played pretty well(I know folks remember some hits, and a few pressures, but go watch the game again..The line was getting to the second level, sealing off running lanes, and they did an ABOVE average job in pass pro...no sacks 4 pressures)Gotta throw Hartline in their as well.

So jet week.. Did we learn anything this week? I think we did..Ball protection, run the ball, and make a team 1 dimensional on offense...No reason we can't do this next week. The jets are going to play Hartline much different then the Raiders. He isn't going to get easy releases, or face so much man coverages next week. Someone other then Hartline or Bess is going to have to contribute in the pass game..It could be Fasano, it could be Bush...The jets linebackers are a slow as Morman girl on a first date..(its those second dates that..anyway)I'm sure we will make some adjusments to get other guys going..Keep pounding it, and let Tannehill manage the game.

Great win yesterday!!!!

Good short speech Craig, I like that Philbin got the game ball, that's how it should be on the 1st opening home game win in years.

DC,

Naanee is trash. I'd even take Burress over him at this point and I'm not a fan. Yeah what's got into Misi? He's looked much better this year. Big improvment, so far.

the offensive line played big yesterday. they will be the key to the dolphins success.

C'mon Craig. Real fans can't be critical of a once proud franchise that hasn't done a damn thing in over a decade (minus the miracle year with Pennington)? Good fans are supposed to be critical. We share in the victories and, yes, we analyze and criticize the defeats. It's not like the Fins have given their fans much reason to do otherwise in recent memory.

Be a fan, but be a REALIST. Like the good things, but ask what a tool like Ireland has done for this organization? Tannehill was a no brainer so don't give him too much credit on that one. We haven't had a franchise QB since Marino, so the risk was worth taking.

DC,

First of many for Philbin as HC we hope.

"...So onto the jets..Hopefully we keep some momentum riding into this next Sunday.

Great win yesterday!!!!

Well said Darryl. Couldn't agree more about Starks & Soliai played great yesterday. It's funny how stat sheets don't tell you everything about D-lineman BUT I haven't seen enough pass rush from the DE's. I love Wake but where has he been the last two games???

To the haters, go look at Philbin's locker room speech to the team. If that does nothing for you, if you really feel nothing, then my advice is to go find another team to root for. You're dead inside and nothing can save you....not even Jesus on here.
Most of you won't even do it because all you want to do in life is hate and that's fine too. It's your choice, your life, enjoy.....

Another useless lecture. Thanks for the advice though!

Why does Craig beats his chest like some sort of Homer crazed gorilla when the Dolphins win against the Raiders? A good win yes it was but nothing to come here to boost about.

Craig M,

you are a real fan brother, I don't think I can deal with all these so called Dolphin fans that really want nothing more than to see the Dolphins fail just so they can complain all the time.

and Yes I agree with you that Ireland deserves not one more year but in my opinion a minimum of two more years, maybe most of you haters will understand that the real culprit here was Parcells...
