Dolphins whip Jets 30-9 and make a statement

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- What a woodshed whipping this was.

The Dolphins, overtime losers to the Jets in the first meeting at Sun Life, flipped the script today by basically dominating the home team 30-9 and capturing second place in the AFC East.

So what does this mean beyond the standings?

It gives you a tangible measure of how much Miami is improving. Understand that on Sept. 23, the Jets could argue they were better than Miami. They went to Miami and, like it or not, came away with a win.

Now, a month later, the Dolphins have grown to the point that New York was blown out by halftime in their own house. And Miami did it with their backup QB, Matt Moore, who played three quarters for the injured Ryan Tannehill.

[Update: Tannehill said after the game he has a hyper-extended left knee and a deep left thigh bruise. He is scheduled for an MRI Monday.]

That says a lot, folks.

Tons.

Jimbo are you comparing QBR of a QB that played all of 10 mins if there to one that played the rest of the game?

Sammo,

I don't know about the diapie part, but in general, I agree. I posted something similar yesterday (minus the poop thing, obviously).

marshall bust threw moore 2011 mvp under the bus during the pro bowl...

moore has learned 3 diff.o's since coming into the league. is he coachable.?
lol

Does any of this really mean anything?

It just hit me that I have wasted an incredible amount of time worrying about a silly game that has no real importance in the world at all.

I am going to try to be a more productive human being. Read some classics, make real love to a woman, perhaps master a musical instrument, etc.

Goodbye meaningless game.

yeah, I can't wait for the bears to get into the meat of their schedule and see who self-destructs worse, Marshall or Cutler.

I wonder how many Cutler passes jj watt knocks down the week after next.

that's entertainment.

. with moore at qb. p/o's

Moore is 7-6 as a starter. Hahaha, I love these fake stats people put out there.

Does anyone know anyone who gets more time off than Mando?? he puts teachers to shame with his time off.

Mr. 2 Watt:

Do you like tangerines? I was in Fort Meyers once and had a tangerine.

luv tangerines. tangelos. navels. uglis u name it morris.
lol

Hi Guys

Thank you.

I like tangerines as well. I do not care for kumquates, however. They give me diarrhea.

Hey fellas....sorry, I'm late to the party. Been a busy few days.

Mark, I commented yesterday that I thought this offence was different as soon as Moore came into the game. It's like they dumbed ti down, made it more conservative and took less chances. Very noticeable. Listen, I like Moore. I wanted him to start the season but ONLY if Tannehill didn't beat him out for the job. It's clear to me that Tannehill as the starter is the right choice. He can do things that Moore can't. I think the coaches trust Tannehill more. If we're to make the playoff (and suppose this year is as good as any), it's got to be with Tannehill at the controls.

Mark, I was married to a teacher and you're right, in Canada, for what they do and what they are paid, with all that time off, it's CRIMINAL! (Pretty sure she doesn't read this blog.....LOL).

Still the same story up heh? Oh well, see ya.

Craig, I do think some teachers do earn their money and may be even underpaid. I know some that really work at their craft. But they do get some nice time off.

Also, like you, I don't get this mad love for Matt Moore. Guy is barely above .500 for us, is at his peak of his career and never beat a good team with us. Butyet, some people think he's our best player. He's a nice insurance policy and will beat the weaker teams but if we ever want to wear the championship belt, we need Tannehill to reach his potential.

Mark,

I'd like to see Matt Moore back in a Dolphin uniform next year. I think I read you say yesterday that 'he's our Frank Reich'. Totally agree! Dependable, can get the job done, he's just never going to lead a team to a Championship. He's nuts if leaves Miami to go somewhere else next year. He's not good enough to start. If he's smart he stays right here for $2-3 mil a year and works with Tannehill, Sherman and Philbin.

Outstanding effort Sunday from our Defense & Special teams. Also can't give Matt Moore enough credit for being prepared to play. The guy is truly a gamer & made a solid case for being one of the best backup QB's in the NFL.

The difference so far through the first half of this season compared to last year is preparation & our entire coaching staff deserves the credit. When I watched this team in the preseason I wondered if we'd start the season 0-7 again & I'm just amazed at the effort this team has given. Players who appeared marginal last year like Misi, Jerry, Jones, Clemons, Hartline, Carroll, etc. are stepping up & making Ross look smart by keeping Ireland & hiring Philbin. I believe Fisher would have done a good job as well but Philbin has to be up Coach of the Year honors at this point.

Oddly, my main concern with the offense after the last three games is clearly on the running game. I don't believe Bush is 100% & if we hope to make the playoffs--we're going to need to see the explosive Reggie Bush who started the season before he got hurt. We're also going to need to see Thomas stay healthy & play with more consistency. Other than that this team is blowing my mind.

Craig, i did say that and I agree. He's got a good spot here in Miami. yes, currently he can probably start for a few teams but let's face it, there are going to be up to 5 QBs taken in the first round this year so that is where the starter jobs are going. No franchise that needs a Qb will be able to sell to their fanbase that Moore will be the saviour. He can stay here in a good position and probably sign a 4-5 year deal at 3 million per like you said. That's a nice way to set up your family for life. I wouldn't think he'd leave just to find himself in a similar spot somewhere else.

Miami Dolphins #12 in the latest ESPN power ratings - that's pretty true and accurate.

The jets could use a starting qb.

and an OC.

WHRBs,

Can sum up any better what you've already said. I had them in the same boat as you. They are FAR outplaying what I thought they were capable of.

Now question for you, do you still feel we have the worst WRs and CBs in the league? Have you looked at NOs CBs lately? WOEFUL! KC? Same! Lion? Carolina? St. Louis. Not saying this to say I was right, just saying Smith is better than he's shown. He'd be near the top of my list as a guy I would resign. Croyle will continue to do a good job with these guys.

Fodder, I see 4 Qb jobs opening up this spring ...

1. Buffalo
2. kansas City
3. NY jets
4. Arizona

Then you have Barkley, Geno Smith, Tyler Bray, and a couple other with first round grades on them. So not many openings for another team's backup. Definitely Arizona won't go that route after the Kolb fiasco.

Oakland and Jacksonville are teams that are borderline in the quarterback market if you ask me too. I think Gabbert should get one more year though. he's better than last year.

Craig,

My guess is that Moore will follow the money & that doesn't make him 'nuts.' The guy has a family & the career of a NFL player is very short so it becomes more of a business decision than a football decision. If Matt Flynn can get a big contract who has done less than Moore as a starter then I'm pretty sure Moore's agent can manage to sell a team on more than $2-3 Million per year.

Ireland has a LOT of tough choices to make BUT I believe Starks, Hartline, & Moore are the three easiest ones. After that I'd say Smith but you can't go crazy on him based on how he has played this season. Clemons has looked good. Wilson has looked good. Freaking Nolan Carroll is starting to look good!!! So the talent hasn't changed in the secondary but the coaches have.

Starting to see why Ross was looking to replace Sparano the year before instead of firing him last year. I don't know what went on behind closed doors with Ireland but it's looking harder & harder to blame Ireland if MAYBE he wanted a different HC too. It's a fact that Harbaugh would have been a enormous upgrade over Sparano. Sparano seems like a good guy but I'm not sure what kind of HC or OC or even O-line coach he is. Just look at the difference Philbin has made through the first seven games....

We should be 6-1 GOD DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whats with Mando not posting any new blogs? Did Sandy take him with her?

We should be 6-1 and ranked #2 in power rankings GOD DAMN IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was being a little sarcastic. Supposedly the nyets have 2 starting QBs.

You know what they say about teams with 2 starting QBs.

I wonder if the Bills would be willing to move on. They spent a lot of money on fitzpatrick.

What about Philly? could be a lot of changes in their near future.

GOD DAMN IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHRBs,

And that EXACTLY my point. Moore can have the right 'fit' for him in Miami or he can jump at the money. Personally I don't believe there will be a market for him out there and I don't believe he'll get what Flynn got. How NOT to build a team.....see: Arizona and Kolb. see: Arizona and FLynn. Use the James Harden analogy from basketball this week if you like. Guy got greedy and now he'll be start in HOUSTON rather than OKC, for what? A couple of million bucks. How's that going to work out? That could be Moore. It would be a mistake to make a similar move, not to mention the disruption to his family.

By the way, you never commented on your' Dolphins CBs are the worst in the league theory'.

"Can sum up any better what you've already said. I had them in the same boat as you. They are FAR outplaying what I thought they were capable of.

Craig,

Obviously the play of our CB's & WR's have totally blown away my wildest predictions. Clearly I was dead wrong & they're NOT the worst in the NFL. Like I said even Nolan Carroll looks much better!!!

Marlon Moore made an unbelievable catch Sunday & when was the last time you saw Fasano make a diving catch for a TD??? Like I said above Philbin DEFINITELY deserves consideration for Coach of the Year honors.

BTW--Anyone who thinks this could be the same situation as 2008 when we had that one miracle situation would be wrong IMO. That season was a product of having a veteran QB, the novelty of running the Wildcat, & Joey Porter having a record season. I believe this turnaround is for real since we have a lot more young talent on this team starting with a legitimate rookie QB named Tannehill & not Henne.

God damn it!!!

Should have said: 'SEATTLE and Flynn'

"And that EXACTLY my point. Moore can have the right 'fit' for him in Miami or he can jump at the money. Craig,

Harden & OKC both made terrible mistakes. Harden had a chance to do special things with Durant & Westbrook which would have paid him a lot more than the difference in contracts through future endorsements. As for OKC if they were going to deal Harden they needed more size to compete with the Lakers instead of adding another scorer. Perkins is a stiff & Dwight Howard (who I personally don't like) will school him.

U guys are assuming the team wants him back!

Seriously! (Must've Found the ! Button so get ready!)

Moore is OK for the rest of the year! What's with u guys catching feelings on mediocre Players!

At least make sure they are dolphins from the start if u are going to get sentimental! (Not U Craig, sometimes)

Talking to the one's that latch on to guys that the fins have overpaid! (Marsha and Dansby) Thinking they still have something to offer!

Mediocre players should not be applauded! I don't want to root for somebody who can be my athletic equal! Maybe u guys do! NOT DASHI!!!

Again, be happy Moore is serviceable! But after this year! Buh-Bye!!!!!!

Draft a project low! And let Devlin be T-Hill's Caddy! Plain and Simple!

Oh, and Dashi don't want to hear ur opinion because I already know a couple of u are mooreaholic's! Matty could do no wrong! Dashi just telling U how it is! Being REALISTIC!!

And Trust Me! Dashi is not saying this cause I don't like Moore(Moore is OK in my book!)

Dashi is saying this because I Love the Miami Dolphins! And Know that it is being lead the right way!

"Should have said: 'SEATTLE and Flynn'"

Craig,

Not saying Moore will get a Flynn contract or a Kolb contract but a solid backup is EXTREMELY valuable.

Orton got a three year deal for $10.5 Million. I think Moore is worth that much.

Mando no new blogs???? What's going on??

Real question

Has Carroll surpassed R.MARSHALL as the starting CB?!

Or does he need 1 more start?

Dashi knows this for sure. If Carroll has another good game against the colts! Marsha2.0 is coming back as the Nickel! Not as the starter opposite smith.

And Clemons is making it hard to blame him for anything! He's looking like another young player developing under the right coaching!

Dashi, wouldn't Carroll be a better fit on the outside anyway where he can use his main weapon, his speed? marshall is a more physical player and would be well suited to play the position they brought him here for anyway - the slot.

I said we should be 6-1.

Respect muh authoritaaaah!!!!

Just saw WalterFootball.com's latest mock. They have us drafting somewhere in the low 20s and taking Justin Hunter in the 1st which totally seems logical to me at that slot and then for some reason taking a DT in early round 2 when TJ McDonald of USC is still on the board.

This doesn't make so much sense. His premise is that Miami may not be able to re-sign Starks but you don't let 28 year old por bowl Dt's just walk when you ahve $40 mill in cap space. And regardless, even if he walked I think Odrick is the heir apparent to move inside and Vernon starts at end.

Great Point Mark.

But with that said Wilson makes the perfect Nickel! He's strong and quick! People usually make the slot Wr their quickest Wr!

Marsha is good also. But he's just not quick enough! What he does bring is physical play! He tackles real well for a CB!

Thing will get interesting when he comes back!

another question? If I may.

Were the coaches looking at Carroll or Marshall? When they made the Vontae decision? Or Both!

One thing is for sure Coyle knew what he was looking at!

Scratch that, he swapped the DT for David Amerson (CB NC State) which makes more sense. Still has us taking the DT with the 2nd 2nd round pick which i still don't agree with.

WHRBs,

Agreed on Moore. That's the type of contract he deserves to be paid. I have at about $2.5 to $3 mil a year. From the Dolphins perspective, why would you not want a guy here who's been here for a couple of years, has had some success with this team and who appears to be well liked by the players and the coaches. Seems a natural to me. Where this falls off the tracks is if Moore and his agent decide he's a starter and push for the opportunity and the money that goes with it. I just don't see it. Of the team's listed as where he might be able to help, I think those teams will add through the draft and I there are always others guys that will be available. I'll say again, assuming the Dolphins want Moore back, he'd be nuts to go elsewhere.

Dashi.....

Don't you think its TIME to start giving a FIN player his DUE RESPECT....

His name is Marshal.....he has earned a correct spelling....don't you think....

Dashi, well they made marshall the starter early in camp and I'm sure they thought Carroll was going to be ready to be a top 3 CB because you just don't go into a season with 2 CBs.

Marshall....I spelled it wrong myself....

these 2 l's...not zero...or 1.....

Mark,

I was going to talk about that.

On the priority to resign Players!

Realistically Speaking! No Favoritism!

1. Long
2. S.Smith
3.Hartline(and this is a little high for Flatline)
4. Clemons(if he's a FA)
5. Starks
6. Bush ( Doubt we resign him if he keeps playing like this!)

Starks and Bush aren't that big of a Priority. We have players in the wing. And if we resign starks don't expect to resign soliai the season after that! I would prefer starks over soliai. But don't know how the coaches feel. If the coaches feel the same he moves up to #3 on my list.

But even if starks leaves the fins will not waste one of the first 5 picks on any line offensive or defense! We have bigger needs.

I wonder where YG/DB/et al is?

thoughtitwasmarshall...

lol

Mark,

At one point Walter had us taking a GUARD in the first or second round (I forget now). Interesting that guard has become much less of a priority for the 'Phins with the improved play of Jerry. You don't read too many 'Jerry is another Ireland bust' on here too much.

What is this, some kind of punishment, Armando? I think we have been behaving pretty well, all of Us. Another furlough?

beat you to it @ 3:30......

and YES...you are correct...it's MARSHALL.....

The Dolphins schedule is very difficult especially the last six games. They need to help themselves and win over the lesser opponents coming up in the next couple of weeks. It will still be difficult for them to finish 9-7 unless they win the next two to be 6-3 with 7 games to go.

Dashi, I generally agree with your list except for Clemons. I just let him go. You can put Jimmy Wilson at free or you will draft two secondary players with the first five picks you'd imagine. So whatever, let someone else pay him.

Starks, I wouldn't be so dismissive about. Like you said, It's all about who the front office likes more between Starks and Soliai. One will walk and both have a lot of tread reminaing on them. Glad I'm not making that decision. But eventually Odrick will move inside - I just don't think he has enough quicks to be outside.

Fins are #12 in the power rankings this week.

...must admit I am impressed with how Joe Philbin has his players ready to go each week...unlike Pizza Delivery Man, Sparano.

GO FINS! BEAT COLTS! MAKE PLAYOFFS!

Playoffs...you talking playoffs?
