Every throw Ryan Tannehill made against Arizona

Ryan Tannehill's performance against the Cardinals didn't finish the way a Dolphins fans would want.

It included a fumble late in regulation that allowed Arizona to tie it. It included an interception in overtime that allowed Arizona to win it.

So why did I just watch his 41 throws in the video below courtesy Joe Alvarez and feel good about things?

Well, because Tannehill showed great, great, great accuracy this game and I had been concerned the past couple of weeks about his accuracy.

Because the Cardinals brought the house in blitzes against Tannehill and he showed ability to move in the pocket and find lanes to throw.

Because the Cardinals brought the house in blitzes and Tannehill did a fine job connecting anyway.

Because the Dolphins had very little in the way of a running game and Tannehill simply put the offense on his back -- and after a 431-yard passing day, the offense didn't seem to heavy for him.

And, because the guy is still just a rookie and time promises he will continue to get better. And hopefully the Dolphins will be able to give him more weapons -- like a tight end to threaten a defense down the seam -- to make Tannehill even more lethal.

So was this a victory?

No.

Did Tannehill get lucky on a couple of throws that might have been intercepted?

Yes.

Did he make other mistakes?

Yes.

But should you be encouraged?

Absolutely.

This dude makes great videos. Wish we had 2 of throws back obviously but a 432 yard passing day from our rookie QB against a "good" defense. I'll take it.

#WINNING.

God damn it!!!!!!!!

You cannot stop B Hartline. You can only hope to contain him

#WINNING.

I love these guys:

Bess
Lane
Hartline
Bush
Tannehill

* Long is a weakling now. Why?

Can't have fumbles. Can't have interceptions. God damn it!!!! We should be 3-1 god damn it!!!!!!!

Cartman is right, Mando what is wrong with Long?? Have you asked him or anyone in the organization???

Couple of thoughts....

Cards defence was coming hard after him all day.

Tannehill for the most part had to get rid of the ball in a hurry all day long. We never saw that from Henne. I can admit that now.

For the morons who KEEP saying Thomas is a bust and 'cut him', did you not notice he was doing an excellent job pass protecting. This isn't fantasy football. Because a guy doesn't run for 100 yards ever week, doesn't mean he's a bust. He's adding things to this team that Miller can't do right now. So try and learn something about football, instead of sounding so moronic.

Last comment on this, I REALLY like the way the team felt the pain of this loss. That was evident watching them walk off the field. This is good. Too often we've seen guys like Crowder smiling and laughing when they should have been pissed. This will be good going forward.

All that being said, I'll take the Bengals, 24-18 this weekend. Close but we're not there yet.

Cartman Long has had some injuries that he never seemed to recover from. Just when he starts getting healthy he gets another nagging injury. The guy hasn't been healthy for a few years now. Unfortunately he may never get back unless he takes a complete year off.

Craig, agree that Thomas is not useless as a lot of "experts" say but I do think he really needs to pick it up if he will ever want to see his 2nd NFL contract. There's a load of new Rbs coming into the NFL every year and there's a lot that can block. He's shown flashes and plays with heart but he just simply needs to get better. I hope he does because I'd rather use a draft pick or free agent dollars on something else other than a Rb especially after using such a high pick on a guy.

Mark/WHRBs,
Not sure if you guys are still around or have jumped to the next blog. I have to agree with Mark. Smith's a keeper and about $5mil a year sounds about right to me. It's not a position for depth on this team, so if you're looking to replace Smith AND Marshall and cap ramifications as it applies to Marshall....then GOOD LUCK!
I'll also agree with Mark on Starks. I really like this guy but if it's about improving the team and being smart where the dollars go, then Starks is probably the odd man out. Think about it. Is he going to get better or stay the same or get worse. Like the other two. So you're going to spend big money for a vet, when we have other guys on the team that can step up. I'd like to keep them all but I'm not sure how we're going to do that and still have room to add. It's like your budget at home. You'd like to buy everything but reality is you can't.

Mark @11:34am,

Well said. He DOES have to pick it up. I'm sure the coaches are in his ear constantly telling him just that.

Craig

Can't have fumbles. Can't have interceptions.

Can't have it!!!

Screw you gaaaz. Um going.....hoooooome.

Screw you gaaaaaz.

Hoooooome.

To the team:

Just win you gaaaaaz god damn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-Cartman

Well, because Tannehill showed great, great, great accuracy this game and I had been concerned the past couple of weeks about his accuracy.

Mando,

How could you (or anyone else for that matter) be concerned with his accuracy after just three NFL starts???

I'll see you this one last time--Peyton Manning went 3-13 in his rookie season & broke (& still keeps) the all time INT record for a rookie. How did he turn out???

There are PLENTY of things to be concerned about like ownership or management or the scouting/personnel department BUT our starting QB is not one of them. Assuming he stays healthy he will become a very good NFL QB & become by far the best starting QB we've had since Marino. No offense to Chad Pennington's & his one remarkable season but Tannehill is a much better athlete & has a much better arm.

long = bust.

Where is everybody?

Mando, can you find out what's up with Long? He's been *terrible* this year. Way below average.

WHRBs,

I see there's a lot of talk that Russell Wilson is going gone to be shown the bench in Seattle. It's a fickle league. Guys had already buried Flynn for not winning the starting job in Seattle and they'd annointed Wilson the next Drew Brees. Things change awfully quick in the NFL. Hang on!

All that being said, I'll take the Bengals, 24-18 this weekend. Close but we're not there yet.

Craig,

Agreed. We're definitely playing better than I thought we would be but the Bengals have less holes than we do.

Hey Dinos which of you experts is predicting los pescados drop the hammer en los gatos lineaos.

Courtesy of Joe Alvarez, there were 3:00 and counting to end the Game when they hit Tannehill for that fumble. Huh?

2 watt,

I think your light bulb burned out a long time ago. Four Pro Bowls equals 'bust.....FUNNY!!

How's Santonio Holmes doing? He can start playing checkers with Revis in Central Park a whole lot more now.

were have you seen that Craig M...

can you send me a link???

(wilson being benched)

We gave away the last 2 games. Should be 3-1 easily.

Craig,

I don't understand that one either. I don't know about being 'the next Drew Brees' but I think Wilson has played extremely well for a rookie. Last time I checked the Seahawks were 2-2....

You know how everyone says it is not legitimate to say "shoulda woulda coulda." I actually think it's cliche and wrong to say that. We really *should* be 3-1. I don't see why I don't have a right to think and say that. We really gave away the Jets and Cards game in a very bad way and we should be 3-1. That's just facts.

russell w = j russell = west coast bust.

I am probably one of the few People that are not surprised at all by anything Tannehill does. More from him to come. Remember, he finished pre-Med. hehehe

Pro bowls are irrelevant popularity contests based on *past* performance. 2 Watt is correct. Long is clearly a bust when you consider his draft position, what else was available, team performance since his draft, how he is now (not good) still as a young player, etc.

Long was a horrible draft choice.

martin = lt in 2013 = long bust.

Wilson is horrible. Look at his play, not records helped by fake refs. Dude is like 12 for 28 for 105 yards every game, including the Green Bay "win." I'm very glad we have Tannehill.

cartman, the homers will attack u now.
lol

Kris,

That's the rumour out there. Nothing confirmed right now but usually where there's smoke there's fire. Kid hasn't played well thelast two weeks. They have an expenisve backup on the bench. It adds up. I have the Panthers beating the 'Hawks this weekend, so we'll see.

WHRBs...

Tanne may in time turn out to be a very good QB...like you said....it is HIGHLY likely he will be our best QB since Marino retired...and not that pick 6 machine Marino that came back after the achiles....

However...

I have said this to you before...and I will say it again....

Comparing Tanne to Manning is a ridicoulus as comparing Tanne to Cleo Lemon....

The data doesn't compute....

Manning is a SPECIAL PLAYER and his type is generational...

NO ONE THOUGHT MANNING WAS OVER DRAFTED.....his love and knowledge of the game was legendary even back then....WE ALL knew it was just a matter of time before he figured it out....

Tanne may become that.....

But he doesn't come with the same accolades...he is a different style of quarterback...he has a "particular set of skills"...if you will....quite diffent from the skill set of P. Manning...

I'm not saying your wrong for using that analogy (its a free blog)....

I'm just saying it sounds ridiculous when you do....

If these Dolphins Coaches think I'm going to get off their A-ses for making bad play calls,, they have another thing coming. At least until this Sunday at 1PM.

Its possible Craig M...

but I think Wilson...like Tanne needs more help....he seems to be running for his life....

BTW...

if were comparing Tanne to anyone...it should be his draft classmen....

or even Henne (since he was the last FINS QB)....

kris, maybe eli not peyton.

Kris,

I like Wilson too and you're right he does need more help.

I'd put Seahawks receivers as no better than ours and the Jets are defeinitely worse. Clyde Gates? Are you kidding me? Guys couldn't get on the field here in Miami. Do they still have Patrick Turner? Another great add!

"I'll also agree with Mark on Starks. I really like this guy but if it's about improving the team and being smart where the dollars go, then Starks is probably the odd man out. Think about it. Sure re-sign Smith & not Starks....You guys kill me. LOL!!!

Craig,

He's one of the best 4-3 DT in the NFL & is a HUGE reason why we have the best run defense in the league. Starks is a beat & guys like him don't just grow on trees. Letting Langford go was the right move & the Rams definitely overpaid for him. Letting Starks go would create a HUGE hole in this defense.

BTW--Is Jake Long going to get better, stay the same, or get worse??? He's not going to get better & he's also going to break the bank BUT he'd be tough to replace.

I agree Armando. Great article.

Some less than 2 watts here yesterday trying to justify Sherman's decision on that fateful down by quoting Herm Edwards, "You play the Game to Win" You know what, pal. Sherman was wrong. We lost. Not only this Game due to his strategy but 2 in a row.

Why havent we done this blog for anyother QB we have had...

We should do "Every throw Cleo Lemon made" next week.

WHRBs,

I think you're mis-reading my comments abut Starks. I like the guy. What I'm saying (and I think Mark is too, if he's let me parapharse for him), is that of ALL the guys we could afford to lose, he'd probably be the one who would hurt the least. Put your personal affinity for him aside for a second. We play a 4-3 defence and we have Wake, Solia, Odrick and some pass rushing dude from the draft. Does it make sense to draft some stud and pay him a fraction of what Starks will want or do things your way.

Now you're going to tell me Smith is most expendable but it doesn't sound like your a fan of Marshall's either, so where are you getting the money to sign CBs in FA AFTER you sign Starks or are you proposing we waste high picks on CBs again? What's your strategy?

"I'm just saying it sounds ridiculous when you do...."

Kris,

I've never compared Tannehill to Manning so go back & re-read what I wrote & the context that I wrote it in. I'm saying that it's pretty f#cking short-sighted to judge a rookie QB's 'accuracy' in his first three NFL starts & I used Peyton's INT's when he was a rookie as an example.

Or "Every throw Ray Lucas made" the following week.

Just read that John Beck got cut yesterday by Houston...I'd say his short career is over.

What the hell was Cam Cameron thinking?

It seems to me tanne gets his guys to play above themselves. I seen a interview with jim kelly once after he retired back and he said good qb's get his teammates inspired to make plays their skill sets normally wouldnt allow them too.the it factor he called it. Something he said danny boy lacked. Tanne gets his guys to ball. Craig the pain of losing can strongly motivate a team to want to win against all odds. Or sink its season. I say its the former with this team. 24-21 fins. On a last second field goal by carpenter to serve as part of his redemption.

Sammo,

Good points @12:28pm.

Interesting that we never saw this team play better under Henne. The change over to Moore was drastic and very noticeable.

WHRBs, I also said that I think Starks is awesome but if we want to improve our pass rush, it most likely means one of Odrick, Soliai, and Starks will have to go especially since all three of these guys will be pretty costly. I hope not though because that would make for a pretty nasty three man DT rotation.

Time will tell.

In no words though did I want to infer that Smith was better than Starks I just meant that we would probably be a better team with Smith there and Starks not - i.e. the step down from Starks to odrick is a lot less steep than Smith to the next best CB.

"Now you're going to tell me Smith is most expendable but it doesn't sound like your a fan of Marshall's either, so where are you getting the money to sign CBs in FA AFTER you sign Starks or are you proposing we waste high picks on CBs again? What's your strategy?"

Craig,

I'm not high on Marshall BUT his poor play (at least in part) could be due to the problems with his back. However my guess is that Marshall is probably at best a 3rd CB.

BTW--What do you mean 'waste high picks on CB's' again???' High picks are only a 'waste' when the player doesn't perform at a high level which is EXACTLY why we need to hire a new GM who will not 'waste' draft picks like Parcells or Ireland or whoever did on Davis.

The CB position is a premium position & we don't have premium talent there. As a unit we have below average talent there. That's a fact & that's a problem. Let's start with finding one premium CB first either through FA or with our first pick.

WHRBs,

Marks's comments are exactly what I meant too. It wasn't a slight of Starks. The guy is GREAT!

Defense not Defence....c'mon people.

With henne I think part of it was he just never got better and I think guys kinda just went into here we go again mode when he was starting. Like they knew their chances to win were nil and they didnt care. Moore actually would read a d and call an audible . Henne rarely did either. And moore always tried to make plays and guys fight for a qb that is doing everything he can to win despite his own limitations. I hate sparanos 3 second bell for the qb to get rid of the ball. If the plodding wrs he gave as targets arent open in 3seconds where does the qb go with the ball?

I'm not sure who they'd go after with the #1 pick, but I can tell you it won't be a WR. It might be a pass rusher. I say no WR because I read Philbin usually drafts WR's in the 2nd round. Something about it being too risky to draft a WR 1st rd (generally). Don't think it's a hard and fast rule, I think it's more of a tendency.

Of course, it's all about who's available at the spot we're in and everything. I could live with a pass rusher though. Maybe a Safety (of the Earl Thomas variety).

I LOVE that everyone is ticked off we aren't 3-1. Everyone assumed we'd be a garbage team this season. Since we had these two games but couldn't finish still means they have exceeded our expectations. None of you should be mad we're 1-3, that's kind of the team we were expected to be. Because they have impressed us more than we initially figured we are PO'd.

Heeeeeeeeeeee's GGGGGRRRRRREEEEEAAAAAAATTTTTTTT. !

WHRBS,

My point is there are only a select few guys that are elite at CB. Yeah I know....you provided a list to me. YOu had about 8-10 guys. That's about right. There are 64 starting CBS in the NFL, which tells me there are a lot of average to poor guys playing the position. It's a passing league. I'm saying when you have a guy like Smith's skillset you don't let him get away. Yeah I know you don't like him. But I guarantee you we bring TWO other guys in here to play the position, given time you won't like them either. It's a passing league. Because guys let passers pass for over 400 yards it's not all on the CBs. Rules heavily favour the receiver now. It's what the NFL wants. Action etc...

Spell it with me,

In Canada it's spelled DEFENCE. You'd know that if you knew anything outside of your little town.

My point is my head.

Yeah MiamiD20 I'm mad. I want to win now. With this schedule 12-4 was doable. Shock the world now. Why not us? Why not now?

#WINNING

#GODDAMNIT!!!
