Every throw Ryan Tannehill made against Arizona

Ryan Tannehill's performance against the Cardinals didn't finish the way a Dolphins fans would want.

It included a fumble late in regulation that allowed Arizona to tie it. It included an interception in overtime that allowed Arizona to win it.

So why did I just watch his 41 throws in the video below courtesy Joe Alvarez and feel good about things?

Well, because Tannehill showed great, great, great accuracy this game and I had been concerned the past couple of weeks about his accuracy.

Because the Cardinals brought the house in blitzes against Tannehill and he showed ability to move in the pocket and find lanes to throw.

Because the Cardinals brought the house in blitzes and Tannehill did a fine job connecting anyway.

Because the Dolphins had very little in the way of a running game and Tannehill simply put the offense on his back -- and after a 431-yard passing day, the offense didn't seem to heavy for him.

And, because the guy is still just a rookie and time promises he will continue to get better. And hopefully the Dolphins will be able to give him more weapons -- like a tight end to threaten a defense down the seam -- to make Tannehill even more lethal.

So was this a victory?

No.

Did Tannehill get lucky on a couple of throws that might have been intercepted?

Yes.

Did he make other mistakes?

Yes.

But should you be encouraged?

Absolutely.

3-1 + rt = luck who? = bob3 who?.

DC, since I find myself with nobody around at work at the moment, let's sift through some possibilities...

Right now, the Dolphins hold the #9 drafft position. If we look at ESPN's top 32 board, the following players are rated #5 - 14 and if the draft were today, you'd assume would be in Miami's scope ...

5. Barkevious Mingo* DE LSU 94
6. Star Lotulelei DT Utah 94
7. Johnathan Jenkins DT Georgia 93
8. Manti Te'o ILB Notre Dame 93
9. Bjoern Werner* DE Florida St 93
10. Alec Ogletree* ILB Georgia 92
11. Dee Milliner* CB Alabama 92
12. Justin Hunter* WR Tennessee 92
13. Johnathan Hankins* DT Ohio State 92
14. Corey Lemonier* DE Auburn 92

You'll see a few pass rushers, a few ILB, a couple of interior linemen (which will probably be passed), a CB,a nd a WR. So you see a lot of matches here for Miami.

My personal favourite of this group - easily Mingo of LSU. Athletic freak pass rusher who wrecks offenses. Some mocks I've seen has him as a top 3 prospect on par with Jarvis Jenkins of UGA.

God are you ugly Salguero.

learn something new everyday

bark dingo.

Despite good yardage last week Tannehill has been a dissapointment. He cant seem to get the W's you expect from the 8th pick in the draft. He's not good late in the games or crunch time. I'd still give him 2-3 more chances before making the switch to Matt Moore.

what doez it mean.?

"Ryan Tannehill's performance against the Cardinals didn't finish the way a Dolphins fans would want."

Read this out loud to yourself. You get paid to write. Get a proofreader. Or is bad grammar part of your "arrangement" with Herald brass?

Dr Love,
Is your complaint that he uses past tense in the beginning of the sentence and future tense at the end of the sentence in both cases talking about the same event?

WHRBs....

I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed...but I do consider myself ABOVE average intelligence...

When your posting about our ROOKIE QB...and then invoke the name of and stats of TEHN ROOKIE QB PEYTON MANNING....

That's a comparison dude....no matter how you slice it....

You said (in essence)...that we shoudn't judge our ROOKIE QB on accuracy because he has onl;y had 3 starts...you continue to say that ROOKIE QB P. MANNING own's the record for most INTs by a QB in a season...THUS referencing his accuracy....and you ask the blog how that worked out....

THAT for anyone that knows 2+2=4...is a comparison....

I don't know how you don't understand that...or even why you are so hostile about it....

Are you offended because I challenged your absurd assertion...

seriously...who has time to work "fake" swear words into their post...that's extra typing....

WHRBs...

You challenged Armando's observation (nothing wrong with that...I do it myself from time to time)....

and I challenged your's...thats how this blog works...

Now you can come back with rationale and defend your opinion in a way that credits you and your postion...

Or....

You can reply in the manner you did....and render yourself among those who can't handle a debate....so then..you type silly little curse words # another blogger....

WHRBs...

which one will you become....

Knock knock knock.....HELLO !!!.
It's like the off season around here.
Oh Yeah. It is. It's a Dolphins blog. What else is new.1-3.LMAO.

You guys who want to talk about next year's draft starting at game 1 (as you have) are tools, not sophisticated fans. It is stupid to always think about next year. Live in the moment. We can still go 13-3 THIS YEAR.

"Jake Long is Pro Football Focus' 43rd-ranked tackle through four weeks.

Long is struggling as the Dolphins move away from a power scheme and into Joe Philbin's West Coast offense. Perhaps the accumulation of knee, back, shoulder and bicep injuries has gotten to him. It's certainly bad timing for a down year as Long's rookie contract is up at the end of the season. There's no way he'll get the $92 million over eight years Joe Thomas got from the Browns at this rate."

I don't know where Pro Football Focus comes up with some of this sh#t. I watch the games & judge based on what I see. I don't put nearly as much stock into PFF's analysis as others do

Bear in mind that PFF also has Dansby ranked as one of the top ILB's this season which I couldn't disagree more. He's been poor in pass coverage & has missed too many tackles.

Armando et al,
I agree: we have our franchise QB now.

Next step: how do win consistently?

Why does Craig M label everyone with a different view point than him as a Jet fan?

EVERYDAY...SAME THING.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG

LOL @ Craig M @ 12:10....

the jets think they will find gold in our WR scrap heap....

The jets fan's must love that Sporano fella....

The will be picking thru our trash for years..Much like we did from Dallas...

Actually, people did question Manning just a bit... the concern, which came mostly from games he played against the Gators, was that he had happy feet and that it would catch up to him against NFL defenses...

There are comparisons. Manning is a special player, and proved any doubters wrong, but, I don't think he was a slam dunk by any means during his rookie year.

Armando,

Please post another political blog today.

I would like to see DC attempt to look as pathetically weak, hopeless, scared & as ignorant as Obama did last night.

Amazing, in 90 minutes, Romney did something the mainstream media hasn't done in almost 4 years.

HOLDING THIS MISERABLE FAILURE AS POTUS ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS RECORD!

Justin Hunter is the real deal. The next Randy Moss.

2008 - Hope & Change
2012 - Exchange or Refund

You can reply in the manner you did....and render yourself among those who can't handle a debate...

I don't know either one of you but....

Kris,
Seems like you are the one attacking him instead of debating. His point was completely understandable and I also did not take it that he was comparing Tannehill to Manning either, but rather giving an example of how stats can be misleading or assumptions can be so wrong with such a small part of the picture. You brag about your intelligence, so how about opening your mind a bit and stop trying to incite or flame.

It really makes you seem rather petulant instead of the great debater you so obviously think you are.

Adam...

I do remember the knock on Manning being he coudn't win the big one...and they used his failure to beat their rival...

I have read by some respected poster's on here that Tanne's knock is his fourth quarter....

so that could be a possible comparison...

Tgard....

when did I attack....

Tgard....

I also didn't know that considering myself to be above average intelligence was bragging....

I guess I learned something new today....

How could I re-word that sentence to make it less bragadocious...

Tgard....

also please point out again where I claimed to be a great debater...

thanks...kindly

:)

Tgard....

are we even talking about the same post....

or did you not understand ANYTHING you read....

Mark,

We're of the same mind. Mingo and Jenkins were both who I'd select too (if available), with the definite preference for Mingo (he looks amazing). Though Milliner could be something (that defense looks almost pro-quality).

Kris = FAIL

zzzzzzzzzzzz

Dumbbell, this is a Dolphins blog. We had fun the other day talking politics (and believe me I could spar with you all day) but I prefer to keep my hobbies separate. I understand why you want to gloat, I'm a grown man, so call it like I see it, and you're right, Obama looked like Miami and Romney Houston. He got doused. If you had any knowledge of political history you'd know MANY a President got beat their first debate (GW Bush, Reagan) and came back to win re-election, so enjoy the feeling now and we'll see what happens when it counts.

That's all you're getting out of me today, and to everyone else I will keep it strictly football from here on out.

The sack on Jake Long wasn't actually Jake's fault. I didn't notice it until I saw the replay. It was supposed to be a quick throw. That's why Jake cut the guy. It was Tannehill's fault for not throwing the ball on time. Jake cut his guy so he couldn't jump up and block the pass. Problem was that their was no pass to be batted down. I hope that doesn't count against Jake in the stats because it wasn't his fault.

Tgard...

I'll take yourdeafing silence as a "i don't know what to say"...and an admission that you just wanted to poke the bear to see what you would get...

wel...now you know...

Cartman....

Have a nice day...

:)

Cartman, thinking about next year doesn't mean anyone's given up on this year. HOPEFULLY Ireland's thinking about the future too (because that's what a GM should be doing). As fans, we have the luxury of doing both (enjoying this year AND anticipating the future). And blogs are meant for just those sort of exercises.

So save me all your "sophistication". You just predicted 12-4, I predicted Miami would go 4-12 this year, let's see who knows their team better.

Tgard....
when did I attack....

*4th: Now we get to the meat of the issue, where you try to attack my intelligence as not understanding the words...or
*5th: Because I didn't reply immediately to your first 3 rapid fire posts, you figured you would try to belittle me to incite me to argue with you.

I stand by my earlier comment sir. You just want to attack, incite or argue. I guess it makes you feel more intelligent or superior. Some of your posts are condescending at that is an attack also.

I say again, I understood perfectly what he was saying. Guess I must be hampered by my intelligence then right? I enjoy some of your posts, but you seem to have a bit of "troll" in you at times. Done with this as you have nothing relevant to say to me sir.

"I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed...but I do consider myself ABOVE average intelligence...

Kris,

I'm making the case that you can't judge a rookie QB's accuracy after he struggled in his first three games. It's not a comparison to Peyton Manning as a HOF QB. I'm saying that EVEN Peyton Manning (IMO the best & most accurate pocket passer of all-time) struggled as a rookie. There are other top tier QB's I can cite other than Peyton such as Eli Manning & how he struggled with his accuracy for a few seasons. Troy Aikman was hammered as rookie.

I didn't say that Tannehill is going to be the next Peyton Manning or Eli or Troy Aikman. I'm saying that based on how three great QB's turned out after THEY struggled it's nonsense to judge Tannehill after his first three starts in terms of whether he's an accurate QB or not.

For the record I do believe Tannehill will be a very good starting QB & if I were to compare him to an established QB--I'd compare him to is Matt Ryan & not Peyton. I see similar mechanics & they both have great arms. Tannehill is just beginning to scratch the surface BUT I believe if Tannehill works his butt off I believe the sky is the limit for him.

Tgard....

Way to NOT talk about the issue...while PRETENDING your talking about the issue...lol....

In the end you type a whole bunch of nothing...throw the word "troll" in there...and spend the rest of the post talking about how my words must intimidate you on the screen....

I don't know what it is about me and my POST that make you feel all scared iinside...reading my stuff must be like reading a horror novel for you....you and your many names ALWAYS go back to ONE issue..."Kris feels superior"....

I'm no "doctor"...and i'm sure your not one either...

So my best guess is that iy is you that has inferiority issues...

Having never experinced that...I really can't help you....

My best advice....when you see dot..dot...dot....just skip to the next post...

Spell it with me,

In Canada it's spelled DEFENCE. You'd know that if you knew anything outside of your little town.

Posted by: Craig M | October 04, 2012 at 12:57 PM

WHY THE F888 WOULD AMERICANS GIVE A RATS AS* ABOUT HOW CANADIANS SPELL IT? WE LIVE IN AMERICA, CLOWN!

WE DON'T SPEAK CANADIAN OR WHATEVER THE HELL YOU IDIOTS CALL IT. NOR ARE WE TAUGHT TO NOR DO WE CARE TO.

GET IT, AY?

S.O.D.

Folks, Omar Kelly had a good take on Tannehill. He said it's way too early to tell. He brought up the Jets games Henne won that first year, and also the Raiders game he won. He was saying those showed flashes that gave a lot of people hope, but ultimately were dashed by too-little-too-late.

He said, and I've said as well, that you're looking for progress. And I'll submit he's grown immensely since game 1. He has talent no doubt. He has my faith for now. But we won't know for a while what he can be in the NFL.

eh?

WHRBs....

I understand your postion better now....

Many things get lost in this blog....and sometimes I just need clarification...

Your post was excellent....

I think I see more Tony Romo in Tanne than anything else....and I'm not talking about 5 interception Tony Romo...

I mean the good stuff...the IT factor...the calmness....even the mistakes..the way he bounces back from them...

in 3 weeks....we have NEVER had the same conversation in regards to Tanne repeating last weeks mistakes....

I was a doubter...but he's making a believer out of me...

"I say again, I understood perfectly what he was saying. Guess I must be hampered by my intelligence then right? I enjoy some of your posts, but you seem to have a bit of "troll" in you at times. Done with this as you have nothing relevant to say to me sir."

LMFAO@Tgard. I honestly don't know where this all came from. Peyton did throw a LOT of INT's as a rookie so I guess people like Mando were questioning Peyton's accuracy too after three starts. Bottom line--The media needs to shut up when it comes to rookie QB's & give them a chance to develop before they start making their evaluations.

BTW--Didn't the so-called "experts" say that Tannehill is too raw to start as a rookie??? Tell that to Arizona's defense who got scorched when he had time to throw the football. I think there's a lot to be excited about how Tannehill played in his 4th (yes 4th) NFL game & he was on the road.

We *should* be 3-1 GOD DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Screw you gaaaaaaaz!!!! Am going....hooooome.

It's too bad there is not a video of every throw i've made in my life. Such a vid would be far more impressive.

#winning

Screw you gaaaaaaaaaaz........................ home.

I like how I keep typing "god damn it" all over Mando's blog and they don't delete it.

and batted paxxes at the los.

Don't you dare fumble again god damn it!!!!

DC, I will keep it civil with you today. How's that?

BTW, I am very well versed in the history of debates & what usually happens in the 1st one to the incumbent. But, NOT THIS EASILY & BRUTALLY.

Obama was exposed as a fraud and a liar.

Tax breaks for moving biz out of the country? LMAO

Working with Republicans to pass Obama care? When he didn't get 1 vote & had to bribe his own party to pass it through a reconciliation & bypassed the wises of the American ppl, especially in MA who elected a rep governor to stop it? LMAO

The press can only hide you so long. Eventually you have to spar with the person you're trying to beat who is gonna call you on EVERYTHING. 2008 no one knew Obama. After last night, with 4 years on the books, EVERY ONE knows Odumba!

Obama's beating has the left in a frenzy. Blame the moderator. Al Gore blamed the ALTITUDE IN DENVER TODAY!

LMAO The WORLD was watching last night, pal. The world saw a clueless, unintelligent, bumbling , weak idiot as our President.

That performance will RESONATE EVERYWHERE.

2012 Change & refund! BUH BYE!

DC, you must be a god damned genius!!! You must have a god damned IQ of 160!!!

Screw you gaaaaaaaaaaaaz.

Hooooome.

Can somebody tell Joe to stop the fumbles? Can't have it.

Bring it on.

I'm *rarin'* to go.

DC,

I know exactly what Omar is talking about & I saw flashes in Henne as well BUT what I didn't see from Henne is improvement from week to week like I've seen from Tannehill. In the Cardinal game---when given time--Tannehill showed veteran poise, good decision making, accuracy, & arm strength. And all of this with just two WR's & a slow TE....

The problem with Henne is that he never developed. He didn't improve from his Freshman year to his senior year or from his first NFL season to last season. Same mistakes, same inconsistency.

DUMMY, actually what we speak in Canada is proper English. Not the b@5tardized version Americans speak and write.

Who is the top rated passer in Fins' history?

Brian Griese. Yes, the son. He was great under Wannstache.

LOL @ dummy.

yea, we small town americans should move to a small canadian town to understand how they spell!
