The Dolphins are back to work as their bye week had ended. I'm also back to work.
This morning the team is on the field and everyone is present and accounted for as healthy ... except for cornerback Richard Marshall.
The player who missed the past three weeks of practice and was out against St. Louis and Cincinnati is not practicing this morning. He is the only one still not practicing.
Some interesting things are on the horizon this week:
Following his performance against St. Louis that included a touchdown grab, receiver Marlon Moore is probably expecting that he's established himself as a target in sub packages when Miami goes three-wide. Well, that isn't quite true.
It seems Moore and Jabar Gaffney will continue to compete for playing time. Gaffney, signed three weeks ago, has not been active for either of the two games he's been on the roster. That is primarily a result of Gaffney being rusty and not fully functional with the playbook.
One assumes the extra week has helped Gaffney get more acclimated thus the on-going competition with Moore.
[BLOG NOTE: The two coordinators will meet with the media today so come back later for the update of that and other things.]

Just hope our linebackers are ready for Dustin!!! Thats the key to victory Sunday

I convincing win would say so much for this team. Sunday had to take a lot out of the Jets and it'll make a statement to the rest of the teams on our schedule.

Jeff pull something of ur bag of tricks other than the texeans who really scares u in the afc this could be our time dolphin fans the pats print the biggest and baddest on the block anymore this is our year dolphin fans Jeff make the moves that will get us there fins up

Division games are always scary. No matter which team is doing bad, these division games will always be close. Hopefully Gaffney is ready for Sunday!
Win, Loose, or Tie... Dolphins till' I die!!!

Welcome back. Hopefully the Jests prove how bad they are and we can take advantage after a week off. If Pats DL can get to Sanchez so should ours. Even if we arent playoff bound the least we could do is crush the Jests hopes. Unfortunately Keller is back and he's a Dolphin's killer (mainly because he's a TE and we suck at TE coverage)
Posted by: MiamiD20 | October 22, 2012 at 01:25 PM
The last 10 games look a lot tougher than the first six and it is helpful to THIS team as the team looks a lot better than after the first two games of the season.Out of the last ten games 5 are against division opponents. They also have two games left with the NFC West opponents San Francisco and Seatle.
Posted by: JMMeister | October 22, 2012 at 01:25 PM
Yes, we're probably healthier than the Jets, but after their OT loss, they might be hungrier. This one could go either way. I thought they were falling off last few weeks, but they've rebounded nicely in the run game (and Sanchez is making more throws). I NEVER feel comfortable playing the Jets, but a win could put us in a very nice position.
Nice to on a bye and move up to 2nd place though!

Beat the Jets!!
Division is there for the taking.
Patriots have invested 11 first or second round picks in their defense over the last five years and still stink. Let that marinate for a second and think about how much a QB props up a franchise and how some of these coaching masterminds are just frauds. Belicheck had most of his success with offense - Brian Billick and Jon Gruden from defense - go figure.

Beat the hated jets!

Hopefully Bush was able to get healthier too. Would be nice to see him torch the Jests for their dirty play. Watch out for Landry though he goes right for your knees. He's lucky he isn't on offense or someone would have put him on IR by now

So whats the deal with them working Rookie RB Jonas Gray?
Posted by: mattybfromNC | October 22, 2012 at 01:56 PM
In watching every team in the AFC East yesterday it became apparent that the Div. is as wide open as it's been in a loooong time! I'm not advocating that we're ready to make the jump yet but a couple of things jump out at you about the Div.
The Pats Secondary maybe worse than last Yrs. group which ranked dead last. The Jets employ a predictable O which really only used 3 different WR formations and routes from what I saw and Sanchez shredded them with J.Curley as his primary for over 300 Yards and if not for the S.Hill drop at the end after the McCourtey fumble they beat N.E. in Foxboro in a must win Div. game, spoke volumes and was every bit an indictment of the Pats as a victory with Brady turning 37 soon.
The Pats can still play the run well but from all the picks and drafts now overseen by Belichik with only his D to fix you begin to wonder if that F.O. in N.E. which has been picked dry over the Yrs. isn't beginning to take a toll on Belichik's hat trick as G.M/H.C./D.C. job. He better hope his 2 picks C.Jones and Hightower turn into beasts because all I see are a couple of good MLB's suspect in pass D with an aging DL and terrible DB play!
The Jets may have it worse with not only an aging D but a CAP flying way over the limit which will force moves and boy is the rightside of that OL weak! The Bills may have the worst Q.B. in the AFC East which says everything also a R.B. in Spiller who always seems to be hurt and a D coasting under new D.C. Dave (I'm a players Coach) Wannstedt in a City you have to drop 100 Mil. to convince anyone to go there and play.
At this point I take our OL hands down over any in the Div. which is VERY IMPORTANT in today's game. If you saw the Sunday night game and saw E.Sanders and A.Brown at WR for Pitt. you know the Steelers aren't going to Franchise M.Wallace and am wondering about Jennings as well in G.B. with Cobb coming along and J.Nelson, G.Jones still out there. For those wanting more DB's look up big FSU CB Xavier Rhodes and LSU S E.Reid to fill voids in a Div. were a passing of the torch is coming in the next couple of years.

Gotta like the fins VS the Jets, I think Miami has the beter team.THOUGHTS?
Posted by: FP4FGs. | October 22, 2012 at 02:04 PM
I was actually rooting for NE in that game simply cause I want to see the Jests lose and hear NY radio rip them, otherwise I couldn't care less who loss or won
Posted by: MiamiD20 | October 22, 2012 at 02:05 PM
Basically comes down to the turnover battle with division games. We win that, we probably win. We lose, they probably win. Game plan should be stop the run, pressure Sanchez and cover Keller tightly. On offense, control the clock, don't turn the ball over. Either way it's a 3pt game (like the last 1/2 dozen have been).
Posted by: DC Dolfan | October 22, 2012 at 02:11 PM
Gotta laugh at Fat Rex giving a Tony Sporono patented "Fist Pump" Yesterday when they took the lead vs the pats yesterday, Also loved the human turn-over machine Sanchez fumble to end the game.
Posted by: FP4FGs. | October 22, 2012 at 02:12 PM
I also was hoping to see a 49-0 drubbing of the Jets. Man did the Jets look pretty strong last night. As DC mentioned,I think they are really mad abot that loss, and they are coming out at home with a ship on their shoulder. We need to get a lead early, like 14-0 or 17-3, then I think we win big and bury them. But if it is close or a tie going into half time, ut-oh.
This is where we will see if the phins are for real! Phins up!
Posted by: Poizen | October 22, 2012 at 02:15 PM
Thanks DC!
f4l, agree 100% on your analysis of the division. The Bills are the worst team I've ever seen agains tthe run and if you can't stop the run, you can't do anything. The Jets are a decaying house and the Pats are being propped up by Brady. Imagine if Jeff ireland spend 11 top picks on defense and it still stunk. This board would be a lot worse than the people here complainging about vet minimum free agents and 4th round picks not working out ...
And right on with Rhodes and Reid. Rhodes would make a nice physical match with Sean Smith. Big physical corner and Reid may be that safety we've been looking for a while. If the season ended today, I wouldn't be surprised to see our first two picks being DBs. Also can't forget the corner from Alabama but doubt he will fall to us.

Anybody see how bad Henne was for the Jags yesterday?

Posted by: Blog Fodder | October 22, 2012 at 02:16 PM
Didn't that Jets loss look like so many we suffered under Sparano? Should've deserved better - we let them off the hook, blah, blah, blah. Fact is that play it close to teh vest style requires you to play perfectly against top teams to beat them and if you give a supreme talent half a shot they will get you. You have to open it up and step on their throat against the good team. From what I've seen from our coaches, that's the type of philosophy they are trying to instill here and for one, I'm glad for it. even if it means giving a game or two away this year in order to try to instill that style.

Thanks for the heads up DC. By the way RG3 looking real good in a game Vs. Giants front 7 were he pulled off that 4th down play for the ages at the end and nearly gets the upset with L.Hankerson and an old Santana Moss along with T.E. Fred Davis hurt as well and a rookie R.B. t boot. I know he's a rookie but boy can that kid ball!!!

Mark in Toronto | October 22, 2012 at 02:15 PM
I don't see him falling to us either this Fins team looks like a .500 group this Yr. which in honesty is a couple of missed kicks from a 2 game lead in the Div. Making them the story NO sports channel gives the time of day! I would love to replace Dansby with T'eo or add a player like Barkevious Mingo who will be a beast but the crop of D players in 2013 is deep, how about flying under the radar FSU D.E. Bejoern (The Germinator) Werner. I watched the Tenn Vs. Bama game to see Tenn WR. Hunter play and while didn't do much in that game flashed some incredible potential in terms of size/speed. I'm thinking players who outside maybe Hunter might all be there into Rd.2 or even early 3.

In all fairness this was Henne's only real play time since week 3 of last year.
I think he can easily be better than Gabbert.
But better than Tannehill?
I don't think so-lol!
Posted by: odinseye | October 22, 2012 at 02:42 PM
fin, I watched that whole game (wife is a Giants fan, and I had RG3 in fantasy) and I was salivating. He had a couple costly turnovers, but sure made up for them. He's definitely the best of his kind (better than Vick/Newton, etc.). All that said, I'd rather have Tannehill and 3 #1 picks at this point. Tannehill looks like he'll be very good as well, a more traditional QB, less likely to get blown up running the ball. With all these rookies, it's about limiting mistakes, not turning the ball over. RG3 adds that extra second of indecisiveness to defenses because they don't know who to cover (him or the RB). I'm hoping Bush steps it up this week and then Tannehill can just manage the game a little easier. We sputtered a little too much last few weeks, which I put more on our receivers than Tannehill.

Last time I checked the only thing that mattered was winning. The Jets lost and are 3-4. Tannenkiller puts a stake in them and they are down the toilet at 3-5 and the Fins go to the Colts 4-3 and a head of steam.
BTW COLTS only stand for one thing;

F4L, I've noticed Bjoern Werner too. I don't think he's flying under anyone's radar but I'd probably be happy if someone else picked him. Do we really want to take another FSU d lineman??? There's something about them I just don't trust. DBs on the other hand ...
As far as Justin Hunter. I love the physical tools but I'm wondering if this guy just isn't a bust in waiting?? I mean, he has the QB, the proper offense, but where are the numbers??? His lack of production really puts me off.
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | October 22, 2012 at 02:51 PM
We should easily be 5-1 god damn it!!!
Mark Sanchez is garbage. INT, lost fumble, both his fault. The INT was embarrassing; he was unable to throw it past 35 yards. Sanchez lost the game.
Posted by: Cartman | October 22, 2012 at 02:52 PM
DC Nerd, chill. We don't turn the ball over anymore. We have Tannehill, not Sanchez. We will crush the Jets something like 31-13.

Guys weirdest name in a while when you toss in the last name to boot which is Mingo but this guy is a JPP type who should be one of the next really good DE or even given speed OLB's. He likely is gone in the 1st five picks though along with T'eo.
odin, Dez is really doing dirt to that #88 in Dallas did you catch that dropped TD wouldn't surprise if this keeps up to see him on the block next Yr.
Posted by: fin4life | October 22, 2012 at 02:56 PM
Newton just doesn't have a good enough supporting cast in Carolina. I mean their drafting over the last five years other than Newton has been awful so far. Jury still out on Keuchly but otherwise they've added nada. He's a man on an island with just older vets Steve Smith and Greg Olsen to watch over him. he may not be strong enough to pull it off.

He basically through his O.C. Chudzinski under the bus along with the entire team. WR Steve Smith has already called him out for this attitude. It's why I like Griffen better lose or win he seems the consummate team guy while Carolina might have the next Jay Cutler on their hands.

Mark In Toronto,
I agree on Cam's supporting cast. But that can be said about most QB's. It's true too. Look at Tannehill-lol.
Cam's going to have to gut it out though, because seldom do supporting cast issues go so smoothly. Busted draft picks, salary cap issues and injuries, etc, etc.
My comment was directed more at Cam's psychology. It's going to be a BIG test for the kid. He's used to winning. He's used to things going well. Not everyone can handle the psychological adversity. We will see.

DC,
Agree 100% that the bounty the Skins paid for RG3 was way to high on a team full of holes which in honesty because of bad O's has wasted and aged a good D over the last 5 Yrs. we will see what kind of F.A. players they can put around him without owner Snyder blowing it.
Mark,
Agree as well about FSU DE's going all the way back to Wadsworth on forward to Bunkley but this German kid plays strong.

Fin4, I agree completely with Mark and his "Supporting Cast" comments.
But I was refering to what you mentioned above. I heard Cam allude to, hint at and suggest some things. NONE of which had anything to do with himself or his own responsibilities.
It'll be a hard learned lesson for the kid, but you don't start throwing blame around without first acknowledging your own part in it.

This Jets team is still playing hard, and if anyone thinks we are gonna just walk over them is dead wrong.
We have all seen the positives in this team, but there need to be a lot more consistency in a bunch of areas.

Mark/odin,
I don't agree with you guys about Newton at all! He has RB's D.Williams, J.Stewart and bowling ball Mike Tolbert maybe the best deep seam T.E. in Olson along with a still game S.Smith, Lafell isn't terrible and they traded for Louis Murphy who can run along with a pretty solid OL.
The game that turned everything for Newton IMHO was the Thursday night game Vs. the Giants were the Giant DE's ignored the pitch/pass option and pinned their ears back coming for Newton who couldn't counter looking through his progressions quickly enough getting sacked I believe about 6 times while picking his can up off the ground every play.
Since that game you have seen every team copy this strategy of making him think quicker while making plays in tight space and his accuracy has wavered. Until he proves otherwise every team will pin there ears back and send the front 7 after him ignoring the pitch and forcing him into all those way off passes he throws under duress.
