Marshall to miss third game with back injury

Richard Marshall, the Dolphins cornerback who has missed the last two games with a back injury, will also miss Sunday's game at the New York Jets as well, according to a source.

That should really come as no surprise. Marshall hasn't practiced since Sept. 28 and hasn't played since Sept. 30 against Arizona. He missed the games against Cincinnati and St. Louis without even practicing the weeks leading to those contests.

He didn't practice last week during the bye. And he missed practice again today, to go with his missing practice on Monday and Wednesday.

He's not available and will miss his third game of the season.

Nolan Carroll, who has started the past two games for Marshall, will do so again Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

On another note, defensive tackle Randy Starks is back at practice today. He missed practice Wednesday for personal non-football reasons.

he'll be gone next year once we draft our CB in first round. Sign smith cut marshall and draft a CB

MARSHALL BROUGHT IN BY TH GASRAGE MACHANICFOR 3 MIKION A YEA,NP HE CANTPLAY.
I WISH THE MACANC WOULD STIcK TO FIXING CARS.
BUFFETT OF KNOWLEDGE

is that english?

In our 1st meeting with the Jets Marshall started opposite S.Smith with N.Carroll as the Nickle. The significance here is that in that game Kurley was the slot WR and Carroll had the assignment really can't recall Kurley's # called a great deal that day?? We need to have faith that Carroll can play him steady cause S.Hill will get shut down by Smith and their slot WR Chaz Schilens isn't scaring anybody.

The real worry this week will be a heavy dose of the double T.E. set from N.Y. with Keller and Cumberland who seems to be coming on for them as the 2nd option at T.E. I believe the sharp as a whip Coyle has something up his sleeve in this regard given the Jets showed the multiple T.E. look against the Pats which was in part the reason for alot of one on one last Sunday with the Pats selling out on that quick 10 yard inside slant to the T.E. the Jets like so much and Sanchez seems to feel most comfortable in as his go to route.

Marshall is a good player, an excellent player as a 3rd cb. Problem is he hasnt't been right all year. Only scenario I don't see him around next year is if the offseason spending spree gets too expensive and we need his cap figure or if N. Carroll proves he can be a top 3 cb by year end.

I guess that's what it looks like when the "Buffett of Knowledge" is empty.

Armando did you see practice today and if so And without running on field could you tell us how Gaffney looked today i think it is important to get him in the game and if he is inactive this week i am thinking it is more than just X and O.

Get this, SI released the results of a poll they did on the most overrated players in the NFL ...

1. Time Tebow
2. Mark Sanchez

hahaha, awesome ....

http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/8549867/tim-tebow-new-york-jets-qb-most-overrated-per-sports-illustrated-poll

Yes! and No!

Yes! another game or 2 for Carroll to cement himself as the Starter! Next to Smith!

And

No! Because R.Marsha being hurt with a back injury really sucks! He was suppose to be at least the Nickelback! Hopefully he gets well and can play Nickel for the Rest of the Season! 2 More games and Carroll Might Prove to be better than Marsha2!

On the CB in the 1st rd? Unless he's the BPA! Don't see the Need to waste a pick there Next Year, that early. Specially if Carroll can step up and be The #2 CB!

Carroll has good height(6'1) is young(25) and is Cheap!

Don't get me wrong doesn't mean don't address the Secondary! But what if Carroll Proves to be Less of a Liability as a CB than C.Clemons as a FS? Wouldn't FS be a Bigger Hole?

With that said The Depth can still be addressed in the Later rounds. Just like the O-Line Depth.

Again, That would be a Good thing to watch this Season. Who Plays better for the Rest of the Season? Carroll Or Clemons?

That is what will decide which DB position is a Bigger Need! For all of u Clamoring to Use the 1st rd Pick on a CB!

Dashi, loving that Xavier Rhodes, CB of FlSt. Miami boy also.

If they decide to go Eric Reid, S, LSU, I would be happy with that too. Not since Brock Marion have we had a true centrefielder back there.

he sux.

I Like to know ,what dashi does for living.

Mark / Dashi,

Aside from size Carroll also has great speed remember he was really raw when we drafted him and seemed to bite on alot double moves early. He probably pressed and played with little confidence. I see a different guy this Yr. he has a bad tendency to play the man and not look back for the ball which on a couple of occasions has had me holding my breathe cause on the P.I. call. He still needs work but has the tools and a D.C. who works with his DB's. I read alot of posts were people are waiting on the game were implodes but me I'm more of a glass half full person on this kid so far under this Coaching.

Has Irescum been fired yet?

We miss Brandon Marshall not Richard Marshall!!

f4l, nice post on the Y Bell blog.

You are right, he was drafted basically on his speed because he didn't play a lot his senior year. There is a lot of football left and he has a chance to cement himself as a top 3 CB for this team. On the flipside - he may find himself out of football if he implodes. It's his 3rd year already.

holy geez, another fan who misses guys who drop 7 td passes in a season and then pizz on the franchise.

Mark, its not fair to judge Brandon on his time with Henne. He's a top 5 WR with every real QB.

Dashi, loving that Xavier Rhodes, CB of FlSt. Miami boy also.

If they decide to go Eric Reid, S, LSU, I would be happy with that too. Not since Brock Marion have we had a true centrefielder back there.

Mark,

I went and looked up the info. you gave me about X.Rhodes having moved up into the top 30 players in the 2013 draft and you were right. He's shot up past Amerson and a couple of others to 2nd BA behind only Bama's Milliner so he probably does come off the board in the 1st Rd.

I don't understand why but the player dropping to 5th BA at his position is E.Reid who was at the beginning of the Yr. ranked as the best and is know projected early 2nd to 3rd Rd. The interesting thing is the group as a whole is ranked high with Tony Jefferson (Okla) as BA who I'll see Sat. Vs. N.D. (I'll be watching T'eo) and projected high 1st Rd to Kenny Vaccaro (Tex), TJ McDonald (USC) following projected late 1st early 2nd rounded out by Elam (UF and don't trust those Gator DB's) and Reid.

So the position as a group has a high mark and wealth of talent moving into the next draft and gotta believe we grab somebody. As far as Rhodes it will come down to players like WR's Woods and Allen who won't go high Rd-1 and the conviction we have on them if he's there with them at our pick. It hurts to say but had we stayed put a couple of Yrs. ago could have had Earl Thomas at S. or JPP at DE. I will always take 1 elite player over 2 steady ones in Odrick and Misi every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Agreed X.Rhodes or E.Reid look like Good Fixes.

Or BPA for the Secondary.

Carroll was very Raw coming out of College. He was a Wr half the time. But that's what I'm saying, The DC is a DB Specialist. We don't need to waste high picks right Now Unless it's a Major Need!

He should know more than the Average Person what to look for in a DB! Like Philbin with the O-Line! Dashi believes That 3 People were in on the Conversation to Trade VD! Jeffy, Coach Philbin, And Coyle.

Coyle probably told Ireland to his Face VD is a 3rd Rd Player at best! 1st rd Athletic Ability, but with a 6th rd Brain Capacity!

They Agreed and Probably 1 or both of the 2nd rounders Might be Secondary!

And On the Philbin letting Ireland draft a Wr high? Philbin doesn't like Diva's! Doesn't mean he won't! It's just not a Priority!

On the flipside - he may find himself out of football if he implodes. It's his 3rd year already.

Mark in Toronto | October 25, 2012 at 01:25 PM

Agreed, sink or swim time but so far he's treading water nicely and I'm pulling for him because the physical part is there.

Eric Clapton playing with Rolling Stones in NJ.

f4l, that stupid marshall trade gave us impetus to trade down but that's another story altogether.

I love Earl Thomas and also pleaded for JPP leading up into that draft. i also liked Derrick Morgan so don't trust everything I say :) (although he's come on this year a bit).

I don't understand Reid dropping but I believe it will be a gift for someone. I alos like Tim McDonald's boy as a FS at USC as you mentioned.

The DBs in all are very highly coveted come draft time - as a group they only rank behind QB and pass rusher for value. So expect a run on QB, DE/OLB, and CB early in the 15 picks. If we can grab 2 or 3 of these 1st or second round graded WR, CB, FS in the upcoming draft, I will be extremely happy. A lot of them look like great athletes.

The one DB I'm a little iffy on is Banks of Miss St. Doesn't look overly fast or physical. Not sure why he gets such a high grade.

Dashi, Philbin didn't look troubled at all when confronted with getting a 2nd round pick for VOntae. Took him all of one second to tell Ireland to go for it. haha, it was funny in hindsight.

"yeah, sure!"
- Coach Philbin

Mark, Marshall is getting paid 4-5m/year. I doubt we keep him and smith since smith is a FA. We draft a CB and keep smith and carroll IMO.
Being injured while you get paid a lot of money is not the best way to remain on a team.

Ok Let's Try this Again!

To keep Everyone Happy. We Keep Dansby for 1 More Season! Let him play out that Contract! Release or Don't Resign Burnett!(Don't know if he has 1 more year on his Contract) And Move Dansby back to his Natural Position OLB.

Draft Te'o in the 1st Rd! By almost any Means Necessary! If we have to trade Jake Then Do it!

Then go Secondary! in the 2nd Round! CB and FS! and go WR, TE in the 3rd! Or Vice Versa! but these 4 Needs Along with LB Should be Fixed Early!

then with the 4th, 5th, 6th. Go BPA! With a Kicker in the 6th!
-------------------------------------------------------

Dashi can't stand the Gators!

But from watching them Play that Kid ELAM is a Beast! He's a Head Hunter Safety! Haven't seen him BallHawking Alot! But He Lays the Wood With the Best of Them!

Wouldn't mind getting him in the 2nd or 3rd!

Boulder, agreed if Carroll can show that he can be a good player. I do acknowledge that Marshall gets paid a lot of money but he also plays a premier position at a competent level. Someone will have to take the job from him and he will have to be moved down to the 4th CB (Carroll improvement, high draft pick) position to get the ax.

At that point, you're right, can't justify that cap hit on a depth player.

I sort of liked Dan Williams the DT out of Tennessee that Yr. as well in that group and he's been pretty unspectacular only just coming on really for the Cards. The thing that caught my eye that combine was JPP back flipping about 40 yards down a field and then you saw the footage and while some were talking work out warrior I was thinking SUPER FREAK!!

Neither here nor there anymore by the way was completely oblivious to the fact TJ was Tim's son. Talk about bloodlines his Dad in my book was only behind R.Lott and right up there with Atwater as the best of an ERA and if not for alot of wasted years in Az. with the Cards would probably get more recognition than he's getting by the HOF voters today.

Mark now that u mentioned it, I do remember Philbin with a Smirk on his face when Ireland Came to him about GrandMa's Boy! He was willing to let him go for less!

Philbin is of the Mentality One Idiot can Ruin a Group! Would Rather have a Room full of Guys wanting to get Better! He knows it's a Process! The Fins just had a Good base to work with! And he is Showing it!

Now if we had such a bad group of talent! He probably would've kept those guys! But he Doesn't feel the Need to waste his times with Headaches! Specially when More than 3/4 of the Roster Can Play!

That's what might make Jake Harder to trade is his Leadership! He does things the Right Way! Doesn't Back Talk!

Dashi | October 25, 2012 at 01:58 PM

You know I'm on board with this line of thinking 100% I'm also sold on T'eo and think he will have a big impact from day one for the team that gets him. I believe Burnett signed a 2 year deal but I am not sure and don't know how much of the guaranteed part of the contract we eat with Dansby next Yr.

The Jets will probably play a little more zone now that they don't have their "island" to count on. So, using a TE up the seam would make a lot of sense. Hopefully Fasano will have a good day, but I'd like to see more out of Clay (and Egnew too). Their defense will be keying on Reggie, so I hope he has a good day (on the ground & in the air). They'll blitz Tannehill a lot in the 1st quarter until they figure out that's not working well. The Jets D should be tired by the 4th quarter and Miami (with the lead) should be able to run the ball then to end the game.

Miami wins 23-10.

f4l, you are bang on about Tim McDonald - he was one of the best but only gets cred for his 49er days even though he was alot better as a card.

Dashi, jake is not going anywhere. he will play OL for the Miami Dolphins for a while yet. If he starts breaking down, they will simply flip martin when he matures physically. Long at RT would be an absolute mauler. Might fit his physical traits better actually.

So Dashi is the New Apple in Ur Eye?

He wouldn't be the only Cardinal either with Aeneas Williams easily one of the best CB's of that ERA as well getting little recognition today.

Don't know about the other but I work in Freight forwarding and am responsible for storing cargo and logging the bay in the system. I keep one page open to that and another open here. You see some can actually chew gum and walk at the same time. Worry about your own finances given your always here as well and keep the chatter to Football already.

OBL,

So ur not Happy with UR Job? Why ur asking me about mine?

Should've worked in Finance? or Some other White Collar Job! In Engineering. Or something U don't get ur hands Dirty. Government Work!

Please, Don't take that as a Insult.

Just Saying.

hank you Fin4 life, Glad your employed and not being a drag on economy like certain people on here,But I wonder if your boss knows you blog on company time?

I Wont.

But I wonder if your boss knows you blog on company time?

Odins Bloated Liver. | October 25, 2012 at 03:00 PM

You know the answer to that question but as long as I'm not messing up and the stored cargo is were it's supposed to be come time to move it I'll be fine, like I said I can walk and Chew gum at the same time. Besides in my line of work the big worry is with the folks in the warehouse getting sticky fingers.

You Have wonder if he will be back at all, we should try to find someone, or maybe trade, we need good corners to keep up with the new NFL where it is all about passing.

Over rated list is over rated. Timbow took a nothing Broncos team and won a playoff game. What ever u say about Timbow u must include the word,,,winner. The guy is a winner pure and simple. Those clowns at SI have never played a down of football and they dream of being Timbow.

Can someone PLEASE tell me why we keep playing tanneyhill at QB and sit Matt Moore?????????????? I am the Dolphins biggest fin fan but I cannot wrap my head around WHY.... Matt Moore has proven himself time and time again but that coaching staff still cannot see the real talent from the talent to be, I am more than frustrated with the tanneyhill way of tossing the ball to noone and then trying to have the excuse that he was "under pressure". The idea that tanneyhill can play as well as Matt is ridiculous. May-be one day he'll be a good starter but now is not that day, as he's proven.....

In today s Dolphins loss Tannehill played about as good as he can at this stage. He still is missing several key offensive pieces to make a difference.THAT said...Miami s DEFENSE FAILED at every turn on 3rd down against Andrew Luck and THAT IS OF COURSE WHERE THE GAME WAS LOST.FINS WERE HELPLESS and PITIFUL in stopping 3rd down conversions.Wasn t it like 14 of 19 the Colts made????????That s a 70% completion ratio on 3rd down for the Colts.Coyle KNOWS THAT S TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE ANY GAME BY ANY QB . PERIOD.VIRTUALLY NO PASS RUSH THE ENTIRE GAME ALTHOUGH CREDIT LUCK FOR MOVING/INCHING UP IN THE POCKET TO ESCAPE ON COMPLETING HIS THROWS.FINALLY......BONEHEAD OF THE GAME IS SEAN SMITH.HE SCREWED UP AT LEAST 6 OR 7 PLAYS...MOST ON 3RD DOWN.HE HAD THE CRAPPIEST GAME FOR A PRO i VE EVER WITNESSED.BENCH HIM PHILBIN.HE STINKS.
