Miami Dolphins needing cornerback help

The Dolphins early today promoted D'Andre Presley from their practice squad to the active roster and the move is a harbinger of how desperate the club is at the cornerback spot now.

The desperation comes in that Richard Marshall continues to battle a back issue and was again nowhere in sight during practice today. To make matters worse, Nolan Carroll, who missed time last week with an Achilles' injury, sat out again today.

The issue forced RJ Stanford into duty as a starting cornerback in practice today while Marshall and Carroll sat out.

Kevin Burnett also limped off the practice field early in practice today. It didn't seem serious. But he had not returned by the time the portion of practice open to the media had ended. I'll update you later as I learn more.

Reggie Bush, by the way, spent some time on the bike today to keep his left knee loose. It is unclear if he'll be limited in practice.

'Grown men' don't spend all day on a message board endlessly typing away about a children's game.

'Grown men' actually go outside and do productive things with their time.

Matt Ryan has thrown for 16,000 yards and 80 TDs.

How many yards and TDs does Jake Long have?

We are 30th in pass defense. Can't be much worse than that honestly. It could be worse...look at the mess the Jets have with injuries.

Ryan's actual playing weight is 210

Tannehill is 230.

After the opposing team gets past the line and linebackers 2012 Dolphins are playing the no-name defense.A Gm like Ireland can have a field day with additions and subtractions as long as Mr cheap sunglasses has made favorable deals with the lower echelon players on the roster.

We Have RB's
I agree, he is done. Tannehill had all the upside and was a slight reach at 8 but I am glad we took him at 8. Philbin and staff know how to get their guys working in their system. He is not afraid to dump someone elses pick and isnt afraid to take risk's. He is a first year head coach in the NFL and will have learning curves just like anyone else. I think we are set up for the future and I know alot of fans want to win now, I do too, but looking at the future it looks brighter than ever. The WCO that Philbin/Sherman run will be a top O when they get their pieces in the right place.

I'm not bashing Ireland. He's done well this year. I'm saying last year we were 25th in pass defense and this year we are 30th so far. None of that starters have missed playing time so why are the Dolphins desperate?

The only stat that matters is the W's.
Dashi thinks Tanny cant get the W's.
Matt Moore can get the W's.

Too bad Moore couldnt beat out a rookie in training camp, that showed up late to camp, and couldnt beat the #2's and #3's on the opposing teams defense like Tannehill did in the preseason games. Moore did a good fill in job last year, all credit to him but that was last year but he couldnt do it this year.

Moore is a good back up, not a good starter,he will probable be traded after the season for a average draft pick. The future is with Thill, and he seems to get better every game, we need to be aware that a lot of Q- backs were label bust before they had succeed, the list is long, I remember that Brett Farve ( sp )was traded to Green Bay, now hall of fame in a few years if he doesn't come out of retirement, perhaps he could go back to the stinking jets. Bill

Moores contract is up at the end of the year so he will be off as a FA

I wanted to chime in on Stanford and Presley...

A lot of people here in Carolina expected RJ Stanford would be the dime back for the Panthers. They had a couple of players step up during camp and Stanford was cut. He is serviceable but should be a dime back and nothing more.

Presley is much more interesting. I went to Appalachian State so I saw pretty much every game in his career. He backed up Armanti Edwards for the first couple of years and pitched in as a WR. He started as a Junior and was a Top 3 Finalist for the Walter Payton Award (the FCS Heisman). He was not extremely accurate but the kid had great burst and made good decisions with the read option. I remember one play where the RB fumbled the ball ten yards down the field. Presley was the guy who recovered the fumble and he took it for another 50 yards to the house.

So how did he end up at CB? Well, we had some coaching issues his senior year and our Offensive Line was a shambles. He lost his confidence and developed a quick trigger. When he was benched, he said he wanted to do whatever he could to help the team. He began returning kicks and playing CB. The kid is selfless and a great team player. He has a lot of untapped potential but definitely the athleticism and drive to make it in the NFL. He played maybe a half of one season in his entire life at CB. He had an interception for the Chargers during the preseason and was one of their final cuts. He also had an awesome YouTube punt return during the Battle of Florida All-Star Game during the scouting season. www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcHxjzmJ07E

Maybe I'm a little homerish but I'm rooting for him. And if he doesn't make it, then it won't be for lack of trying.

Rebuilding year. Talented but raw athlete. Temporary opening due to injuries. Find out if he can play. This is what you do in rebuilding years.

The good thing is that we are actually not too far from having the talent to be a good team. Need to get an excellent WR, an excellent TE and and excellent CB. Need another player who can start as guard. Not impossible to fill needs given our draft situation.

On another note - I like aggressive play calling and want aggressive play calling. This is a rebuilding year. We are not going to the SB this year. But we are laying a foundation for the team we will be in the coming years. I want a team that learns to make the big plays in the tough situations. You do not become that kind of team unless the coaches call the aggressive plays in the tough situations. I am fine with having some irritating losses this year - like the game this week - in return for giving the team the attitude and experience of rising to the occasion.

For those who are betting, I understand that you want a predictable milquetoast product. Tough luck.

Looks like Reshad JONES WILL BE BUSY ON THE WEAK SIDE NOT TO WORRY PRESLEY DOES KNOW FOOTBALL

I think we do have a weakness in the secondary, but it's not ultimately the CBs position.. The weakest link is Clemons, and if I'm not mistaken he's probably ranked as the worst safety in the NFL.. AGain, he was drafted mainly for special team help, which he has done a good job at it, and it's kind of unfair to be a super star. At the same time, we should put all the blame on the secondary. mostly part of the problem is due to the fact that the QB is being given a lot of time to scan the field... and btw, most of the sacks vs. Arizona were coverage sacks... you should watch the game again, and time the QB...

You DC liberal pus*ies wouldn't have the ballz to walk up to my front door.

You talk a good game Sally but, we all know you won't get your skirt dirty.

ANYONE WATCHING THESE 4 GAMES CAN CLEARLY SEE THIS IS A BETTER TEAM AND HAD THE COACHES DONE A BETTER JOB OF TALENT EVALUATION(RECEIVERS) THIS TEAM IS EASILY 3-1! DO NOT BE SHOCKED IF THE DOLPHINS WIN SUNDAY! I'VE SEEN IMPROVEMENT BY QB AND NOW TO HELP THIS POOR SECONDARY THE PASS RUSH IS STARTING TO COME BACK! GAFFNEY WILL EVENTUALLY MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE BECAUSE HE HAS BEEN SOLID HIS ENTIRE CAREER! THE KEY SUNDAY WILL BE THIS CAN WE RUN THE BALL EFFECTIVELY TO KEEP DALTON OFF THE FIELD! IF WE DO AND ROLL COVERAGE TO AJ GREEN SIDE TO CONTAIN HIM WE WIN! DO GIVE UP DOLFANS THERE ARE 12 GAMES LEFT AND WE CAN WIN 9 OF THEM! DOLPHINS 31 BENGALS 20.
