« Kevin Coyle: Record day not a setback | Main | Dolphins may want to re-establish running game »

Another week without Richard Marshall starts now

The Dolphins return to practice in preparation for the Tennessee Titans game on Sunday. They'll be on the practice field inside of 30 minutes.

Don't expect Richard Marshall to be there -- today, tomorrow or this week.

A source close to Marshall tells me the Dolphins cornerback who has been battling back issues is still not ready to practice. He has missed four games and has not played since Sept. 30.

The Dolphins are not surprised by this as Tuesday they signed former Cowboys, Ravens, and Raiders cornerback Bryan McCann.

McCann beat out a couple of other players who tried out, including former Dolphins cornerback Jonathan Wade.

By the way, you can bet that Marshall will miss the next two games. Becasue he's not practicing this week, he obviously is not playing against the Titans. And he's not playing against the Bills because that game is on a Thursday -- after a short week or preparation -- and that won't give Marshall enough time to gear up for the game even if he is fully healthy again, which also is uncertain.

So the earliest Marshall is back in the lineup would be Nov. 25 against Seattle.

[Update: The Dolphins overall are a relatively healthy team. Marshall and LB Koa Misi are the only players not at practice today.]

Enough with the Smith pile on. Fact is, before Sunday he was having a pro bowl season. Now if he does this consistenly then fair game.

Jenkins, really? the same guy burned by matt Moore and continuosly burned in subsequent weeks??? he's been awful.

Jenkins, really? the same guy burned by matt Moore and continuosly burned in subsequent weeks??? he's been awful.

Mark,

Matt Moore??? WTF??? Janoris Jenkins is a rookie & he plays for the Rams.

Look at the average times it takes a QB to throw.. Russell Wilson leads all QB's taking 3.14 secs to throw the ball which is bad.. The top 4 that take the least amount of time to throw the ball are as follows:
Tom Brady least time @ 2.49
Matt Hasselbeck @2.5
Peyton Manning @ 2.51
Ryanl Tannehill @ 2.57
In 61% of his throws it takes Ryan Tannehill 2.57 secs to release the ball after its snapped. That helps his sack numbers. Which also coherlates to him finding his receivers.
It also points out that his accuracy increased by 2.8% when he threw the ball after 2.6 seconds.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/11/07/signature-stat-snapshot-time-to-throw/

Folks, those guys were wore out before the Indy game even started. The last play of the game says it all. Miami had a chance to get the ball one more time with 49 seconds left. All they had to do is stop a 3rd and eight. Indy's second rate runningback pushed 8 of the dolphins defenders 17 yards down field before they could bring him down. They were operating on FUMES!!!!!!!!!! If they receive the proper rest, then they will win most of their remaining games and get one of the playoff spots; they may even win their division.

Its "Miller Time"
http://phinsnews.com/miller-time/

Guys,

This blog topic is a very "legit topic" no matter how many times Armando brings it up. Its important because based on what the team saw in Marshall primarily fuel the "Vonte trade".

I dont think it makes the Vonte trade anymore questionable. But it is very dissapointing that the guy taking Davis' spot is having a helluva time seeing the playing field.

We may see this story(Marshall) even into the offseason(if the injury persist) and even into preseason. I say preseason because if unable to see the playing this season and the back still isnt a 100% go, coming into preseason. Its almost certain he could wind up on 2013's "cut list.

Then again, the Marshall issues becomes a story. Bet on it.

Hey people that play football have friends too , maybe him and Moore are good friends , maybe he thinks Moore got a bad deal , he totally let Freeny go untouched to cream Tanny yeah football players are people too they do things for their friends , a hurt Tanny gets Moore in the game , Moore plays does good thats big money for him next year , stop being so damn naive just because we like Tanny don t mean all the players on the team have to

Thanks for the news, Mando. Excellent work updating us.

Matty B,

Can you imagine the season he'd be having if he had more options than just Hartline & Bess???

Mark you are a tool.

We get the news here first and you moan and piss like a little girl because you're not happy with the post.

Dude, you are free to leave and let people who actually have something that drives conversation blog in peace.

"I`m not saying we shouldn t be playing Tannehill , I just want to know who the players would rather have in there , Moore gained their trust and friendship last season , Long keeps letting Tanny get killed , is it because he`d rather have Moore in there , thats all I want Mando to find out no subject is taboo so find out"

LMAO! Funniest post of the year!

Enough with the Smith pile on. Fact is, before Sunday he was having a pro bowl season. Now if he does this consistenly then fair game.

Mark,

I didn't pile on Smith. I agree with you that he had ONE bad game. I was just naming 5 other CB's who are damn good players in this league.

Saying Jake Long "intentionally" let Tannehill hit and sacked Sunday is like creating a "conspiracy theory" saying "the Platers Peanut Man" really does exist.

It's a contract year for goodness sakes. Do you really think Jake Long dislikes TanneHill or likes More so much he's willing to giveaway $millions out of his own pocket. Geesh guys, get a grip.

So you think our pro bowl playing RT tackle that has been outstanding the last few years suddenly just forgot that protecting his QB is his number one job , I can t even count the amount of times he`s let Tanny get creamed this year , YOU HOLD IF YOU HAVE TO you don t let your QB get hit , but he`s let Tannehill get nailed at least 10 times thats alot

Xtreme,

So that's the story you're sticking with??? Good luck with that & while you're at it maybe you can find out why JFK was killed.

WHR's
If he had a legit #1, which I see him having next year, then we get back a few of the L's we have this year. Hartline and Bess are having career years and I hope Hartline is back next year in the #2 with Bess in the slot.
Gaffney hasnt made the impact that we wanted yet but you can tell the seperation he gets and he knows how to get open when he is out there..
(disclaimer) And before anyone else reads this and says well we had Brandon Marshall, I mean a #1 that will actually catch TD passes for his team, unlike he did last year, and wont cry and moan if things arent exactly his way.

Cheating Refs calling holding on Marlon Moore with 2:30 left in the game.

YG,

Xtreme MAY be on to something here...That's why Jake Long is having an off season!!! Help....

If/when Marshall returns, we'll wonder why anyone thought that was important.

Marshall = progress stopper.

I want to be proven wrong. I really do.

And YG stop blowing Mando he`s not getting you free tickets, its a lame story , 8th time weve heard it, I want to know the teams consensus , which quarterback that want in there , no subject is taboo , so Mando put don t your donut , get off your ass and go find this out for me it needs to be asked!!!

WHRB, sorry typo, should read Marlon Moore. And I know who jenkins is. Former gator, plays for the rams, rookie, had to transfer to Alabama A&M or some something like that ...

He's been torched a lot recently.

Mark contributes alot seeing as this is one of the only times ive seen you post, you should prob know what youre talking about before you open your mouth. He brings up valid points and topics to discuss.. if you read the blog regularly posting the same stuff as a topic every week isnt journalism.

All opf this poll the players to see which qb they would rather see play most sounds ridiculous. The lack of mental appitude some of you are putting into your posts. Is really making me lean toward believing in "alien abductions".

Seems your brains ahve been prodded and poke far too often by our alien friends. LOL

He's not playing next week either? God almighty, what is wrong with this guy?

It's important he get back because Nolan Carroll has been found out.

OK...look I'll move on. Because I have clearly stated that Sean Smith is inconsistent, not a top level CB in the league, offered others (including those who are hurt) who are much better and explained he didn't have one bad game (he looked foolish several times against the WETS as well).

Simply put Smith, Marshall, Carroll and Wilson are not a confident unit and they are clearly the BIGGEST WEAKNESS on this team.

Yes, they do benefit from strong pass rushing. Yes, if Luck was sacked more the Secondary would look better. That is why the team's 3rd down record was so good heading into the game.

Yes, Hartline, Moore, and Bess are not #1 WR's and we need an upgrade.

Yes, Misi, Dansby, and Burnett are not consistent and can improve.

But it is absolutely clear to me (and I really hope to Philbina and Ireland) that the worst unit is our Secondary.

Lord I hope they see it so that we can improve in the offseason. I am pretty confident the unit will show that my argument is sound.

Guys I bet the illuminati are controling the Fins and have regressed Jake Long to let Tannehill get hit.. who by the way only has been sacked 5 times this year if im not mistaken..
Conspiracy!!!!!!!!!

If the dolphins were to score a lot of points in the first half, then they will defeat the opposing team and the cheating refs.

yes thats what I`m saying , its plain as the nose on your ignorant face, he stops protecting the QB when Tannehill is in there , how many times did the Jets hit Moore ?????

official BS...I'm with you.

And, all of a sudden, Pouncey doesn't know how to snap the ball without committing illegal procedure?

It's horseshit...

FLPD, thanks. Now go fukk yourself.

The next time Mando gets us news first will be the first time.

I meant...road apples, sorry.

Actually wxyzvbc or whatever your handle is, posting news and doing it before practice begins as Mando obviously did is news and that is journalism.

Also, I've been around for a long time, son. I don't post every day because I have a job. But I read everyday.

Or how bout the whole damn team played an excellent game when Moore was under center , and the whole damn team laid a rotten egg when Tannehill was in there , the Jets beat the Colts , so how did we destroy the Jets and forget to tackle and cover and protect our QB against the Colts

jpao, not that I can agree with, the secondary is the weakness of this team. But I think S Smith is ggod enough to hold onto. But we need two more players in the secondary drafted by the end of the second round this April.

He`s been sacked way more then 5 times he was blindsided 3 times alone in the colts game

Tannehill's far exceeding my expectations. No one was any angrier when Ireland spent the 8th overall pick on him than me. I thought the kid was a 2yr project at bestbefore becoming a starter.

Now, the kid has done a a very fine job and shows progress each game he steps under center. Where were you guys attempting to create a Tannehill/Moore controvesy during preseason? Moore completely blowed this preseason and thats why T-hill became starter day 1.

Where you guys suffering "alien abduction" and missed the entire preseason?

"If he had a legit #1, which I see him having next year, then we get back a few of the L's we have this year. Hartline and Bess are having career years and I hope Hartline is back next year in the #2 with Bess in the slot.

Matty B.,

F#ck Brandon Marshall. Getting rid of him was the right decision for us. Mike Wallace would be a game changer for this offense. Unfortunately the price for WR's really seemed to go up last year. He's still very young so I believe he's going to break the bank like Vincent Jackson did.

I agree that this is the best I've seen both Bess & Hartline play. They've been excellent & I don't recall the last time either of them has dropped a pass. I'd be extremely disappointed if Hartline wasn't re-signed.

Gaffney could definitely be a good 3rd option but he can't drop easy passes like he did last week.

Mark, you're a little biatch with big talk on the internet but if we met in person you'd shut your piehole real fast.

As an aside, buttwipe, you show me what other reporters had this story first ... Maybe you don't give a crap when players on a secondary that got toasted are not playing. But I do.

Oh, by the way, blow it out your monkeybutthole.

moore = win.

jpao,

Jenkins from the Rams? Are you kidding me, man? Have you watched the Rams this year? Go back and watch the game against the Pats. Jenkins was beaten bad and often by Brady. You're actually make my case for me. What I'm saying is, just because a guy is a top drafted CB, doesn't maean he's going to be a difference maker in the NFL. There's a ton of highly drafted CBs who have flopped big time in the NFL. Yes the same could be said for DE, I'm just saying the number of TRULY impactful CBs in the NFL is small. If we consider there are 64 starting CBs in the NFL (2 per team), we all struggled even to agree on the top TEN. If Asomghu is still so good, how come I see that Philly defence getting piled up on every week. Don't tell me it's the DC, because the Eagles are already second guessing that one.

I'll go back to my original point, put whatever top TWO CBs in the league you want to put back there. If you've got no pass rush these guys will get eaten alive. The rules no favour the offence because this is what the NFL wants. The blueprint is what the Giants are doing and some teams are trying to copy. Through pass rush after pass rush at the QB and keep him off balance. Same rules apply, that you can't win in this league without a QB....you also can't win if you can't get to the QB. In my opinion, we need to upgrade this area, even if Vernon continues to develop.

A lot of good points in here today guys. Got to run for now....check in later.

xtreme,

You say you live in Palm Coast right? Lets me some where right now and I'll show how ignorant my face is.

moore = 5-3.
rt was not ready 2 come back, the vets knew this.

Every week Jeff Ireland gets this injury update he has to cringe. His secondary stinks and his big free agent addition in the group has been MIA for a month.

Terrible.

"WHRB, sorry typo, should read Marlon Moore. And I know who jenkins is. Former gator, plays for the rams, rookie, had to transfer to Alabama A&M or some something like that ...

He's been torched a lot recently."

Mark,

Through 8 games he's still been the best rookie CB in football (better than Claiborne & Gilmore) & the pure talent is undeniable.

Why is it so hard for you to grasp the idea that the team gelled and created a bond with Moore , he did turn the team around last year , they did vote him MVP, then a rookie comes along that just happened to play in college for our new OC you don t think some players not see that as favoritism , you`ve never had a friend at work you though got screwed out of a position and stood up for him , why can t these guys be people with feelings and emotions too , some people aren t only driven by money , and the way these guys are paid now days money isn t a big issue they already have more then they know whaty to do with , sometimes friendship means more then money

Tannehennehomers, why don't the WR's drop Moores passes.?,clearly Tarrihill has a ways to go.

xtreme,

Just because you dont agree with Tannehill being starter doesnt mean all dolfans have to agree with you. Hurling insults is childish.

You know that I live in Palm Coast too and Im willing to have take your frustrations out on me man to man. Any place, anytime you like. Stop acting like a childish beetch because others exercise thier right not to agree with you.

Craig,

I still don't see why Olivier Vernon can't be that other pass rusher. It's just a matter of time before he beats out Odrick to be the starter @ DE. Odrick is not a bad player but he doesn't have the athleticism or the burst that Vernon has.

if u want 2 beat ne, play moore.

If you want to beat ne, don't use a 3 man rush.

I think Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is the better CB in Philly. Not sure what happened to Nnanmi who used to be considered a shut down corner.

I`m not saying Tannehill didn t earn the spot maybe he did maybe he didn t , he`s doing a great job , just saying , people form friendships , loyalties , because you like Tannehill every player on the team has to like him??? Just seems very strange how many time Long and I`m not the only one who see s it sports writers wrote about him letting Tannehill get hit too much this year, why can t some of the team rather have their friend from last year play , they aren t robots for christ sakes , I`m sure some players would rather have sporano back too , people form bonds

WHRB,

If we start Vernon at DE over Odrick right now it preety much means it was a #1 pick wasted for Odrick. Odrick can play inside, but Solia and Starks are he dt starters right now.

So what do you propose doing about our #1 pick Odrick if we just stuck Vernon in as starter right away?

"If you want to beat ne, don't use a 3 man rush."

BF,

Good point. You give Brady enough time & he'll tear any NFL defense apart.

Well yesterdays gone , if I knew what house tyou lived in on Boston lane I`d come smack some sense into you, make you not such a smart ass , I`ll Terminate them alien thoughts

I`m not saying he shouldn t be the quarterback, I`m saying Long is purposely letting the kid get killed out there , that maybe he wants Moore in there

xtreme,

All Im saying is think abouit what youre saying. Do you really believe, in a "contract year" Jake Long would sacrifice "tens of million" on a "longterm contract" to intentionally get Tannehill hit?

Even if your theory "other players" may not like Tannehill starting over Moore. It begs to ask another question:

"Why arent our other olinemen allowing Tannehill to gety hit with regularity too"?

Especially ours. Luck demonstrated the futility of protecting the first down markers time after time after time.

Maybe Bess should cover opponent's slots...

do what you gotta do.

"If we start Vernon at DE over Odrick right now it preety much means it was a #1 pick wasted for Odrick. Odrick can play inside, but Solia and Starks are he dt starters right now.

So what do you propose doing about our #1 pick Odrick if we just stuck Vernon in as starter right away?"

YG,

You have to play your best players. Vernon is continuing to get more playing time for a reason & I couldn't care less how high Odrick was picked. Vontae Davis was taking in the first round & Marshall beat him out. You can't live in the past.

And the ignorant remark was for We Have RB but if you recognise yourself as iignorant I totally agree
