Bills beat up the Dolphins up front

BUFFALO --Sometimes football truly is, as coach Joe Philbin says, not that difficult a game.

Much of it is as simple as blocking and tackling.

And so if you're wondering why the Buffalo Bills, a team that is the worst in the NFL at stopping the run, could stop the Dolphins Thursday night, all you have to do is look at the blocking and tackling.

The Bills tackled and they beat the Dolphins off blocks.

It wasn't any exotic scheme that helped the Bills. It wasn't a team stacking the tackle box against Reggie Bush that limited Miami to only 60 rushing yards and 2.5 yards per carry.

It was the Bills simply beating the Dolphins physically up front.

"You got to give credit to them. They did a good job up front," said quarterback Ryan Tannehill. "They weren't bringing safeties down. They did a good job of shedding blocks and making tackles. There were a few times I turned around and there was really just nowhere to run. And that's with no safeties being in there. So you have to credit their front seven for doing a good job of making it difficult to run."

So, as I told Tannehill, what he's saying is the Bills were winning up front. They were beating the Miami blocking up front.

"For some of the game, yeah," Tannehill said. "We just couldn't get things going."

That's it. In a nutshell.

The team that was giving up an average of 163.7 yards per game on the ground coming into this game beat the Dolphins physically up front.

And that leads me to this question:

Why?

How is it that an offensive line with a first-round pick at left tackle, a first-round pick at center, a second-round pick at right tackle, a third-round pick at right guard and a guy who was signed as a free agent solution a couple of years ago at right guard get beat physically?

By that team that was so, so terrible previously?

Troubling.

Remaining Schedule:

Only the Jags look beatable. Theyre currently 1-8. After lastnight looks like the Bill sweep this year's series. No way we're beating the Seahawks. Even less chance we bea the Niners and will be swept by the Pats.

Final record: 5-11
Draft position: 6th-7th

Analysis: Depending on team needs below us. Trade down for perhaps an extra 2nd and select Mani T'eo mlb Notre Dame.

Depending on team needs below us I believe t could be possible Mani T'eo slides no lower than 13th.

Remember, I said depending on team needs below us for this to occur. If we could trade down, pick up an extra 2nd rd pick, and still get Mani T'eo. It would be like a 1st rd coup for us.

Ross is too cheap to pay for good players.

Jay,

Yeah right, lets draft a qb 1st rd. Especially when this late in the collegiate season there isnt one that has emerged guaranteed to be any better than Tannehill.

Real f#cking bright man.

..Tim in Tampa..I feel that we need to really consider keeping Smith..Here is why. Unless we make some free agent plays as far as certain positions go. I don't think we can just get rid of players without a plan. IMO the draft isn't going to solve our issues right away. It is highly unlikely that we will find rookies that can come in and be differece makers, or the answer to our problems. Also, this would handcuff us as far as other important holes go.. I'm not saying do not explore corner via the draft..On the contrary. I'm just saying if we draft lets say 2 corner backs. what are the odds both are improvements off the bat? I think Smith is a big corner, that has value to this team. Just my opinion on him. If we could aquire a true number one guy, Smith could be a complimentary piece in one the outside, or even in the nickel, as an upgrade to Wilson.

KRIS SAID..........11-5.......

If anyone drafts a qb top 10 in 2013 it will be a reach. Not saying these qb's will automatically be bust. Just that none are really wothy of being picked top 10.

KRIS WAS WAITING FOR THE FINS TO LOSE 6 GAMES TO ISSUE HIS APOLOGY TO ME............

How far below us YG? Problem is someone further back might trade up ahead of our pick and snatch him up. If he is as good as Dashi claims grab him up when you can.Especially if you think he outplays dansby from the start.

Matt Barkley come on down.

AHERMAN......... THE ARMANDO'S TEACHER ...........

OUR GARAGE MANAGER ,,,,, THE DISASTER GM ...........ANY THING HE TOUCHES ,TURNS TO BUST,,,,,

DD,

Correct, we should keep Smith if we can. Still, we had better sign him to a "peanut clad" contract this offseason because we need to trade his-ass directly after 2013.

Smith isnt getting any better. We've seen his ceiling and also see he is highly prone to regression during a year. Up and down like a heart attack chart. His nfl career pattern has taken shape.

SHERMAN...THE ARMANDO'S TEACHER,,,,,

THE LOSERS ,OUR DUMB FANS ARE STARTING TO TALK ,DRAFT AND TRADE,,,

DD,

The WRs struggled to get much separation all night but i think that was partly because Tannehill had very little time to setup. Nothing of significance showed up with our WRs. No question it's a need for next season.

Jones was all over the field but he was chasing a lot. The reality is that Spiller made him and others look silly.

DO WE THE MOST DUMB FANS OR WHAT ?

WE UNEDUCATED FANS WHO CLAIM THEY KNOW FOOTBALL ,WHILE THE PREDICT 11-5 FOR THIS YEAR AND WE ALREADY SUFFERED 6 LOSSES SO FAR .......

THE UNEDUCATED FANS........AND THE UNEMPLOYED.....

Sammo,

My post isnt written in stone. There could possibly be a team right below us courting a mlb. Never know.

However, in my scenario, you also examine what the team needs are a couple spots ahead of you are and if there's a player available to fill thier need that they absolutely cant pass up.

Then you'll know if whether or not another team can jump up in a trade and ambush you for the guy you wanted. If not, then you're safe to do so. It's like being a chess player. Examine evry position on the board before making your move.

CraigM,

Exactly why we need a sideline to sideline tru mlb like Mani T'eo. Dansby isnt that, Dansby doesnt have true mlb instincts.

Rb's like Spiller need to be stop as close to line of scrimmage and as quickly as possible. If not, like you saw for yourself at the game, the rest of your defense will be giving chase all night.

Just imagine if we still had a young Zack Thomas. Many of those Spiller runs would have been diagnosed at the line, close to the line, or behind the line of scrimmage. What you saw lastnight was a dire need for a true instinctive sideline to sideline mlb.

Dansby's the mlb by default. He's there because he's the best we have availble fo the position at present. That doesnt mean he's supposed to be there.

..Yg. Good post @7:15..I totaly agree. We may be playing ourselves into a position to take T'EO. But I see it as you do. Teams looking to draft a quarterback may have a tough time with this years crop. This may increase the value of a player like T'EO up the board higher then in a year where the Quarterbacks are more solid. It may not matter if we don't turn this around.

2 Georgia guys are intriguing. They both are 3-4 guys. So I don't know if we would even explore them as options. Jarvis Jones is the best pass rush prospect. Will probably be a top 5 pick, and Alex Ogletree. He is a MLB that could be moved to WOLB in a 4-3. He could be an option if T'EO is off the board in a trade down scenario..I don't think Ogletree is a top 10, even 15 guy. And the system here could be a huge factor as far passing on him.

CraigM,

Did you also notice Dansby dropped yet another pick 6 opportunity? Mani T'eo has 6 picks on the college season thus far. He would really look nice in a Dolphins uniform next year.

Then we can kick Dansby outside to olb.

NEW POST UP ABOUT DANSBY,THE 47 MILLION AVERAGE PLAYER...

DD,

IMO, its T'eo or bust as far using a #1 pick at mlb. We have to many team needs to use a #1 pick on "an average mlb". If we cant get T'eo, then imo, you go bpa to fill another urgent need.

We cant waste our top draft pick on a reach.

Things that will happen before miami wins another superbowl: Armando has one too many pregame drinks and posts a current pic of himself on the blog.Turns out he looks like a mix of the funny fat kid from modern family and chewie from chelsee lately. T.O. and Ocho accept football is over for them. They sign up to guest star in sons of anarchy but due to failure to memorize routes they end up at sons of guns. And are never heard from again.Philbin will demand that mike sherman has lasik eye surgery. Turns out with his poor vision he had a difficult time Opening the playbook up.

Should've
Watched Vampire Diaries instead..

our only hope is that miami loses rest of their games, that way maybe ross will figure out ireland is a idiot and doesnt know how to be a gm

Moore is not old, the team ,the whole gotdamn team plays much better behind him, I`m not saying Tannehill isn t our future, I just think with the little he played in college, he`d of been better served learning from the bench the first year , and I still say a lot of the players would rather have Moore in the game , I don t know if he fires them up , or they just like him better , but the the team plays night and day different when he`s in there. There`s nothing wrong with a rookie QB sitting his first year , coming in for mop up duty, its been done that way for years and produced some great QB`s,
This team needs to win more game , needs to believe in itself, another losing season is exactly what this team could not afford to have, but too late now , they`ve destoyed any progress we made last year and probably detroyed the confidence of our rookie QB as well

You are right Armando and the question is why? The Dolphins were winning both lines of scrimmage earlier in the year now they are not, the defense played better against the Bills but tho line can't block anybody these days, is this a mental block or what? How can they be good at this earlier in the season and be terrible now and this has been the case the last three games really

Can someone please teach NOLAN CARROLL HOW TO PLAY DEFENSIVE BACK, BECAUSE HE HAS NO CLUE!!! And another the season is probably as far as playoffs but we are still in it by a hair so if the next game is tight and you are getting the same crap from Tanny maybe try Moore for a spark, it might not be a bad idea . And the of course once we are done for sure just give tanny all snaps and hope he gets better. I thought he played pretty all season until that last drive against the colts we were in position at mid field and all the sudden he looked like Chadd Henne and really hasn't been the same since it is very disappointing it was not long ago they were 4-3 and i thought they were turning the corner.

So tired of the same old sheet! I see nothing the last 3 games to see any hope. I admit I was excited in the beginning of the season, but as usual.... they disappoint.

O-LINE COACH A MUST REPLACEMENT. TRADE LONG, MOVED MAR-
TIN TO LT, DRAFT A RT, WR, TE, & CB'S. VONTAE WOULD NOT
HAD MADE A DIFFEERENCE. NOT WITH TIS OL. I THINK SHER -
MAN IS NOT CALLING A GOOD GAME, NEITHER IS HE USING HIS

EGNEW OR CUT HIM, SO U KNOW GOING INTO THE NEXT SEASON
WHAT YOUR NEEDS ARE. ANY FUTURE CHANGES OR MOVES MUST
START WITH THE FIRING OF JI. ROSS HAS MADE TREMENDOUS

SED. ODRICK IS NOT A GOOD DL, MISI IS SO SO, & THE BEAT
GOES ON. WE NEED MEAN DL & LB. GET RID OF DANSBY, HE'S
NOT WORTHY ALL THAT MONEY. GO WITH THE YOUNG GUYS BECAU
SE THEY ARE THE FUTURE. MY BELOVED PHINSS NEED NEW & A-
GRESSIVE PLAYERS. MR. ROSS PLEASE OPEN YOUR EYES, HIRE
MIKE MAYOCK, BILL POLIAN, MIKE LOMBARDI, ETC.YOU HAVE
A LOT OF CANDIDATES TO CHOOSE FROM & I'M SURE THEY ALL
WILL LOVE PHILBIN, HE'S IS GREAT.

Because the fastes guy at WR is runing 4.5 in the 40's ,this is why the other teams are playing the Dolphins at 15 yards from the line, and the fact is that now you got 22 guys in this spand of the field where a firts year guy who is playing QB has to make a play this is not going ANYWHERE!!!

The good old boy network from TEXAS. HAH!

Here is a small note for Tannehill; You loose alone and win with the team. So when talking about Buffalo and Tennessee it was I couldn't do anything when talking about the last Jet game We played well...Leaders always protect the foot soldier, without them you surely get your as_ handed to you...more so than now!

They have ZERO breakaway speed on offense other than Bush who's not been playing well of late.
Why not use Bush more in the passing O which is bereft of a true #1 as has been witnessed by EVERYBODY ?.
This team needs to get as creative as possible on O to cover their lack of playmakers yet they do not.
Lamar Miller has not played for awhile and there are times when he AND Bush should be on the field at the same time.
Now if their lack of playmakers isn't enough, Jake Long is looking like a shadow of his former self.

I usually don't comment on here, but I have to vent. Everytime things start to look up for the Fins' they fold, It seems so obvious to all watching that they need to use Bush more on passing downs, the offensive line needs to block much better, the defense needs to put more pressure the qb with some blitzes. These are the things that worked early on and now they have gotten away from them. I swear it seems like the Fins' do dumb $#!& to cause themselves problems. I feel like I'm breaking up with a girlfriend when I say this, I can't take it anymore. The worst part is, my Dad is the biggest Fins' fan I've ever met and he my die before the Fins' are respectable again, it would be nice to see him happy about sundays again before his time is up. It's a crying #^&#@* shame. Sorry to be morbid, but ain't it the truth.

Can we just go back to speaking plain freaking English?"
