Three quarterbacks. All making the first nine NFL starts. That's what you'll find below.
It is the first nine NFL career starts for Dan Marino, Chad Henne and Ryan Tannehill. In other words, you have the start of a Hall of Fame career, the start of a franchise quarterback bust career, and a hopeful future franchise quarterback career.
What do the charts below tell you?
I'm not going to editorialize today. I don't want to color the converation or lead in any direction. It's up to you to do that.
I'm going to let you make your own judgments and pour them into the comments section.

Huizinga isnt stupid he did all this with the idea of selling the team.Ross the new buyer now has to contend with an empty stadium on sundays, but I dont think he is stupid either he knew what he was buying.

Thus far the only good owner the Fins have had they have had three was Joe Robbie.
Posted by: KingShula | November 12, 2012 at 05:10 PM
Aloco again, for the one billionth time, WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!? Jeez man just because you're a Jets fan doesn't mean you have to be ignorant. How in the hell did the Dolphins force Parcells out? "Should have let him start what he finished"!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ARE YOU ON CRACK!!!???? The guy quit and ran away with our money ALL ON HIS OWN BEFORE HE FINISHED THE JOB! No one forced him out and you know that! Why do you write this garbage!?

I think Danny Thomas was a partial owner but he sold out to Robbie.Robbie is the one whose ownership hired Shula and drafted Marino which were both forced or persuaded into early retirement by Huizinga.
Posted by: KingShula | November 12, 2012 at 05:13 PM
defense and offensive line sucked, titans ranked 30th in run defense and dolphins ranked 7th, total reversal, again no defensive backfield for the dolphins, how many 3rd and 20s can they give up. Time to start rebuilding, no long, no dansby, no bush, they have to be worth atleast a 3rd round pick. create some cap space, more draft picks, send ireland packing, and 2 years super bowl bound. the rest of the division is on the down hill side except the dolphins, it is now or never.

Dont get comparing Marino, Henne, Tannehill 1st 9 starts period. Here's why:
Marino
Didnt get his first start until late in his 1st season. He came un under an well proven and established system, on a team coming off a sb appearance, and under the tutor of perhaps one of the greatest backup qb's to ever play the game.
Not to mention the winniest hc of all time, plus Diper and Clayton were already on the team.
Chad Henne
Dont even get me started. Henne didnt start his first game until game 3-4 of his 2nd season. At least one of his wins should be given to Ted Ginn. Remember the 2 kockoff tds agaunst the Jets?
Plus Henne had a deep threat. How many inaccurate deep throws did we see Henne over or underthrow to Ginn. How many times was Henne criticized for lack of deep touch?
Tannehill
Only qb in Fins history to start day 1. Doesnt have Duper/Clayton, not even Ted Ginn. He already has more deep td passes than Henne.
Henne started his 2nd season on a team 1 season shy of being afc east champs and playoffs. Tannehill starts for a team that was 6-10 and used that 8th overall puck to draft him.
Armando, where is the comparison? Boy you must be really bored today son.

PHINS...I KNOW YOU R FROM FL ..BUT YOU CAN FORCE OUT ,WITHOUT FORCING THEM OUT......THE SAME WAY KRAFT DID IN BOSTON ,BUT THIS TIME ,TUNA MADE SURE HE'S GETTING PAID FROM THESE OWNERS WHO MAKES BILLION ,NOT 14 MILLION..........CAPACHE,.

Mike Shermans play calling sucks monkey balls. It looks exactly like Dan Hennings from last year give us all a break here.
Posted by: jeff m | November 12, 2012 at 05:16 PM
Nice setup.
Most knee jerk fans forget Marino stepped onto a team that had been to a SuperBowl the year prior. Give a man time, and tools, and he can do well. Look at Henne's quick start and quicker plateau... the NO game was the beginning of the end.
We need more data points to see what Tannehill will do in the long term. NSF
Posted by: Toddler13 | November 12, 2012 at 05:18 PM
YG, but check out the comparisons. Even with the things you stated Tannehill is right up there even winning in most categories. His percentage and yards beat the other two, that's all I care about in a rookie qb. He can move the ball. We just need to get him some play makers that other teams actually have to game plan for. It's pretty ridiculous that Ireland didn't set his rookie up with help in his first season but what do we expect?
Posted by: Phins78 | November 12, 2012 at 05:18 PM
When looking at those stats I see RT= Damon Huard. Hopefully the stats don't tell the whole truth.
Posted by: john | November 12, 2012 at 05:20 PM
Phins78,
If Tannehill had the same recievers as Marino, I believe he would be 7-2 also, just like Danny Boy.

Posted by: qbclub13 | November 12, 2012 at 05:23 PM
This doesn't tell me anything. If the first nine games of someone's career determine their future...
First, the stats confirm what we already know. Touchdowns are good. Interceptions are bad. And Dan Marino was a touchdown machine! That's always a good thing. Marino was Rookie of the Year too. Is that the benchmark for a franchise QB?
As for Tanehill, its way too early to tell. Other notable QBs were interception machines early on. Peyton Manning had 28 picks his rookie year (to 26 TDs, 56.7 completion percentage); John Elway had 14 picks (to 7 TDS, 47.5% completion percentage).

THERE SHOULD BE SOME KIND OF FOOTBALL LITERACY TEST YOU HAVE TO FIRST PASS TO BECOME A FAN.
Im dead serious! LOL...

Aloco you are talking to the wrong person if you want to debate the big smelly know nothing ego driven Tuna.
1. Hired Ireland
2. Hired Sparano
3. Hired Dan Henning
4. Built an 80's style team, big and lumbering, right in the middle of the pass happy new age of football.
5. Drafted Pat White
6. Signed Ernest Wilford
7. Was happy with Henne because "he reminds me of a young Phil Simms".
8. Quit before the job was done because his mistakes made the team worse every year and he didn't want to be around when the s*&t hit the fan. Left Sparano to answer for all of the bad that he created. He didn't want this to be his legacy so he slinked away before blame was placed and it was genius wasn't it? He has people like you blaming everyone else except the actual guy who was in charge and created the mess. You're hoisting him on your shoulders like a typical ignorant football fan. Think for yourself for a change would ya?
Whatchya got Aloco? Please try to defend this piece of garbage to me.

Bottom line tannehill is not a franchise qb. He will look ok at times, but what everyone saw yesterday and against the texans is what he really is. He is not going to lead miami to a super bowl so go ahead and waste another four years on this guy.

Marino and Henne both started more games in college than Tannehill and neither one of them played WR. And lets not forget Marino was a second team All-Pro his rookie year and won the MVP award the following year. Although you could compare the two, just about any QB in the NFL today is going to fall short of Marino's accomplishments in their first 9 games.
What isn't captured in the table above is the attitude of Marino, Henne, and Tannehill. Marino had confidence, and demanded excellence of those around him.
Henne could throw the ball, but wasn't a leader on the team. Henne continued to get worse under pressure and after time, it carried over week to week.
Tannehill is still very green, much more than Henne and Marino were (especially since Henne sat behind Pennington his first year). But one thing we've seen is Tannehill have a terrible game against Houston, and bounce back against the Raiders. Another bad game against the Jets, better game against the Cardinals.
Tannehill is still finding his footing in being an NFL quarterback. He's inconsistent, and there's no doubt that Sunday's game was his worst. However, I think he has the tools and poise required to even out those bad games and start playing more consistently.
We won't truly know what this kid is made of until the end of next year. Hopefully by then, he'll have a more dependable WR corp.

Tannehill has as much talent to work with as Henne did. Jake is obviously diminished but I'll take this passing game talent over 2009.
The comparison is fair.
Thanks, Mando.

Mot in the skill positions my friend.
Henne had Ricky Williams, Ronnie Brown, Marshall, Bess, Hartline and Fasano.
For Tannehill, take away his no. 1 WR in Marshall. Then subtract Ricky and Ronnie and add Reggie.
You can talk about Offensive Lineman all you want. But it's quite obvious statistics speak more for your Skill Position Cast. Simply put, Henne had an edge.

Dolphin77,
Tanne's 1st pick Ive seen top 5 qb's still make. He didnt see the lb faking the blitz drop of the lone into the passing lane. That same lb tipped the ball and it landed into the arms of his waiting teammate.
Maybe the 2nd pick should not have been thrown. Fasano was smothered. However, Matt Ryan completed the exact same pass to Tony Gonzalez yesterday for a td. The diffrence was Gonzalez out-physicaled the lb for the ball. Fasano wussed out.
The third pick I dont remember what happened on that. Maybe thats the only one that could 100% attributed to Tannehill as a bad decision. By that time the game was 100% unwinnable anyway. The best qb's throw picks in those situations.

Within 5 minutes the Titans had 14pts on the scoreboard.
