Dolphins beat Seahawks 24-21 in final seconds

Call it a comeback.

The Dolphins were down twice in the fourth quarter -- once at 14-7 and then at 21-14 -- but fought back each time and just battled through a victory.

Dolphins 24. Seahawks 21.

The game was a coming of age moment for Ryan Tannehill. He authored a seven-play, 65-yard drive in the final two minutes to give the Dolphins a chance at Dan Carpenter's 43-yard field goal.

The Dolphins are 5-6 and end a three-game losing skid.

Ryan Tannehill in the fourth quarter today: 7 of 8 for 156 yards, 1 TD. Led three scoring drives including game-winning FG.

From Armando, on Twitter today. Don't TELL me that these games don't matter guys. I don't hear anyone in Pittsburgh saying 'Geez, I hope we lose next week, so that we get a higher pick'. It's a loser attitude.

48, Soliai was DEFINITELY worth the money. Glad Ireland listened to me (I said re-sign him 2 years ago)!

Miami is still a young team learning how to win games. Rookie QB, rookie coaches...

Great win today shows lots of promise for the team; Tannehill learns how to come back late in the game, Clay shows up, running game starts working again, D.Thomas shows he can run...

So, there's hope on the horizon for the team. The rest of the schedule is brutal and will show if this team can compete with som of the better teams; SF, NE...

WHDPs @ 4:58pm,

Totally agree. My plan would be to bring a lot of these guys back and continue to build in the draft. Five picks in the first three round SHOULD help us a lot. I'm encouraged by what I saw from Clay today and maybe TE isn't the gaping need some of us have thought. I still have hope that Egnew will help down the road. Time will tell.

Nope, i was posting to you, but sincere apologies if my tone was over the top. Trust me, I would have been a LOT cruder with Connors. LOL
I, and several others have tried to explain that unless a QB is needed, draft position is highly overrated, especially when you have as many early on as we do.
This is the first year in a while where the Patsies aren't front loaded, but that may change, as some team will play the sucker for Bellicheat.

I'm not saying Dansby was the reason the run D played well today. But I'm also not giving Starks credit for it. I'm not saying Starks didn't play well, I'm just saying that Soliai was a standout for me and for the most part I hardly noticed Starks today. Not saying that was bad thing and I know he contributed, I'm just not sure where you end up criticizing Dansby and Burnett for todays game. Actually for the most part I thought all of the defence played well today, including Clemmons.

Craig,

You're right. We must have been watching two different games. The only aspect of the defense that was impressive was that we shut down the RB's. Russell Wilson did whatever he wanted against us & that was with all the penalties Seattle had.

I criticize Dansby & Burnett for their mistakes in coverage & I criticize the secondary for not forcing a turnover or even breaking up a single pass. Yes we had two sacks against Wilson but the pressure wasn't enough to disrupt him or rattle him & when he ran the ball himself he burned us.

I can't give an honest assessment on this team's progression as well as the future until Ireland is gone.

I think the oline played well today. Finally got push to open up the run game. Kept Tannehill safe for the most part. Tannehill FINALLY ran when he got in trouble, which is on him, not the oline (they won't stop the defenders 100% of the time, QB DOES have some responsibility to get himself out of trouble from time to time). Long played well, really 1 mistake (that sack). For all the worry about Martin vs. good pass rushers, it was pretty quiet on his side (which means he had a pretty good game). ANYTIME the run game is successful, means the oline did their job.

DC,

Agreed. Oline played extremely well in both pass protection & the run. Hard to figure out why they struggled so much against the Bills defense but handled the Seahawks???

When you have to cover someone that is a lot harder job to do than rushing the passer.Thats the way I see it and theres no change in that since before I ever posted anything on this blog.Defense takes more energy to play than offense you have to react to the other player not vice versa. The Dolphins have a pass rushing speacialist already in Wake but somehow watching the games in key situations if they had another on the other side I think the same defense would improve by just adding ONE player.

The most consistent part of the Dolphins game is the run defense no change in that either.

Craig is a POS don't think there another poster more annoying them that weasel. Btw for you homers Wilson >>>> tHill

Craig,

All is not won or lost with one game. Where has Clay been before today??? I'd love to see us draft a top tier TE like the kid from Stanford or the kid from Notre Dame to help Tannehill.

DC Dolfan put your h@rd on for tannehill back in your pants. He should have lead a comeback against indy, buff, and just flat out sucked against tenn. So don't get carried away!

Thats ok IMA, I shamefully admit I was on the suck for luck bandwagon last year bebause he is that damn good, BUT with patience and experience we may have dropped on a good QB in Tannehill, I believe in him, give him the weapons and watch him succeed.
I was merely trying to point out to Orlando that without a deep threat receiver, no TE catching threat, we do not have the tools to pose a playoff threat, if we somehow did get there then thats an immense achievement. I'm a realist but always hope for the best.
And I totally agree that the only reason to need a top draft pick( hence a bad season) is to draft a top QB.
Some of the guys on here really wind me up though, cant wait for the Henne brigade when we play Jax.

KingShula @5:12pm,

Exactly how I feel. Wake would be so much better with another guy opposite him. Similarly, the secondary would look better with Qbs throwing before they actually want to. Guys want turnovers? You have to force them. They don't just come to you, for the most part.

Craig,

I also wouldn't be surprised, if we get a mid first round pick, that we wind up trading down to get even more picks.

I like pepe

WHDPs,

Well that's a good question. Where has Clay between before today? Maybe Philbin needs to be questioned on why he hasn't been used more. The guy does have good skills and should be a bigger contributor than what he's been so far. Similarly, how come Miller wasn't dressed today? Is he being disciplined for something?

Craig who's on top today who or Dashi

TE is atill a major need, the receiver thing can be adressed in FA, Id be amazed if Philbin didnt make a play for Gregg Jennings, theres always Mike Wallace too, and a high draft pick 1st to 3rd rnd on a reveiver too. We should pick mid round and if there is a top TE worthy of that pickthen we should jump on it, if not then CB/Safety.
Clay is potentially a great prospect but he is too hit and miss, needs more consistancy.

WHDPs,

I'm not saying we shouldn't upgrade TE, I'm just asking the question out loud if it's as big a need as we think. For example, would you rather one of those TEs you want than a WR or a S, cause I think that's what it's going to come down to.

77, that's why today was so important. My eyes are totally open on Tannehill. That last INT that got picked up by the Earl Thomas penalty was a complete disaster. That first INT was 100% on Tannehill. He has lots to learn. But he FINALLY did it! You SHOULD be happy by that, not whining about what he should've done weeks ago!

On a side note, good to see Tedd Ginn jr still having no testicular fortitude lol

DC,

Don't forget 'you're supposed to put your 'hard on' away for Tannehill'....LOL.

I guess with this team you're not actually allowed to be a fan of anyone, without being accused of having a 'hard on' for the guy....LOL.

To those saying we need more pressure, we had plenty of pressure, but WE CAN'T TACKLE MOBILE QBs. Locker ripped us, Wilson ripped us, Luck ripped us. We are getting good pressure but we can't finish the play because of some crazy athletic QBs that are scrambling everywhere

what a drive by tannehill

My pipe dream. Fins take the AFC East title due to a PATS collapse.

The PATS only beat the Jags in their last games and end up 9-7.
(Fins, Texans, 49ers, Jags and Fins)

FINs win out and end up 10-6.
(Pats, 49ers, Jags, Bills and Pats)

Joey,

Sorry man, I'm not buying that. With the right people you can dictate the game against the QB. As it is right now the QB is dictating the play too much. That's what we need....no question.

We need an elite WR in free agency and we need to use one of those second round picks on another big play TE to compliment Clay.

We need a shut down corner and an elite safety on that side of the ball. Use the first round pick to take Xavier Rhodes or Milliner from Alabama. Spend a second round pick on a safety. Take a guard and a RB (Bush is done after this year) with our 3rd round picks.

GREAT WIN IT GOES TO SHOW HOW WITH A GOOD RUNNING GAME TANNEHILL CAN LEAD THIS TEAM. THIS WAS A GOOD DEFENSE AND HE PERFORMED VERY WELL IN THE 4TH QT. WE STILL NEED MORE WEAPONS NEXT YEAR AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN GO GET MIKE WALLACE TO STRETCH THE FIELD. NEXT WEEK NEW ENGLAND COMES TO TOWN AND IF THE TEAM IS NOT READY IT COULD GET UGLY. BUT FOR NOW GREAT WIN AND GOOD GAME T-HILL,CLAY,AND D-LINE. GO DOLPHINS I THINK WE CAN FINISH 8-8.

Craig,

Yes I agree but we all know if the DB's were at least decent things wouldn't be as bad as they are.

Vernon was absent today, Odrick showed up for the first time in weeks, Soliai and Starks did good up the middle. Our pressure is inconsistent but it is by far from the biggest problem. We need a playmaking OLB and better play from Odrick and Vernon, but our DBs are terrible and allowing to much space.

DC,

Agreed. I wasn't referring to u.

U and Me are of the same mentality! I want Te'o! But if we can address a Need in the first! CB, WR or Safety! Dashi is OK with taking a LB in The 2nd!!

Just like I know. If we Take Te'o! With the First Pick! We should go secondary! In RD2!! CB and FS!!

Henne will have a chip on his shoulder when he comes here to play us later in the year. Henne is balling right now. He has taken then QB reins from Blaine Gabbert and has flourished in the Jags offense. Henne vs Tannehill in Week 16. That game is going to be fun to blog on. I can't wait.

PATs will be the key test as to how this season ends and if there's ANY remote playoff chance or not.

Orlando,

No thanks to an expensive WR in FA. We'd do better to draft one in the second round.

Friendly bet that is the way Philbin and Ireland will go.

Orlando,

Easy on Henne 'flourishing' in Jacksonville. He's started two games now and is 1-1. Can we have this conversation after a year or two?

Agreed Craig on the receiver as in I think thats the way Philbin will go UNLESS, he can get Gregg Jennings in FA, don't see Philbin passing on him.

Craig,

Ross has already said that they will be looking for an elite WR next year. I don't think that there are many elite WRs in the draft. No top 10 talent that is for sure. You may be right but I have a feeling that if the Fins spend big money next year it will be on a WR. No way Ross goes in with Bess and Hartline as the starters.

Orlando,

Ross isn't making the decisons. It's Philbin and Ireland. So Ross can say what he wants but we have $40 mil to spend in FA and lots holes to fill. Makes no sense to spend a hug chunk on a guy in Fa, when you can get one in the draft. That's the Ireland and Philbin model.

Truth U are here all the time!!

U more than anyone should know!! Dashi and Craig Don't see Eye To Eye ON THE MAJORITY OF ISSUES!! Pertaining the Dolphins!! So U catch a Titttty Attack!! Is Uncalled For!!

Plus!! U have Never answered Dashi's Question!!!!

Truth! How the Mighty Have FALLEN!!! U are Not Even a Shade of Urself!!

The Way Dashi beats U Up!! U Should call me KEITH THURMAN!!

Missed the game but saw a few highlights. Did see Russell make Dolphin pass rushers look like farmers trying to catch a greased pig.

Truly didnt expect Miami to win this game. Jags beat Titans. Titans beat Dolphins. Will be hard to dictate what happens Jags vs Dolphins too. Crazy league at times.

Craig,

So do U think? The Fins aren't going to spend on Free Agents?

Sounds right. We have to think what would Philbin Do? And It doesn't look like he wants to build thru free agency!

Some fans here might not like that! But it's the TRUTH!!

Philbin wants to BUILD THRU THE DRAFT!!

Great win today keep it going Phins

Ryan Tannehill was able to lead that last-minute comeback and gain confidence as a young quarterback because his coach never panicked and stuck with him.

This is why Joe Philbin is an NFL coach and you can go to bed tonight assured that NOBODY will EVER be calling to hire you in the same capacity.

Not going to throw accolades nor hisses at Tannehill. Great job leading comeback. Terrible job during 1st 4 possessions.

Like I said in a post a few days back, surrounded with great offensive talent, Tannehill can be a high top 10 qb. I will dare not say top 5. With great talent around him he should have a "borderline elite qb" type career.

HENNE IS SURGING ,,,,,,,,2 TD .A WIN AND 7 MILLION A YEAR..A STARTER .........

THE DONKEYS WOULD LET YOU BELIEVE DIFFERNETLY ........

The Dolphins deserve total credit for winning today. I'm impressed with the Seahawk QB and Tannehill did well to pull out the win.

Having said that, the next two weeks bring up premium games against the Patriots and 49ers. My hope is that both of those teams and the Dolphins play their very best football; that way, we'll see how far the Dolphins have come and how far they have to go.

I still believe the Dolphins have serious issues in several key areas - most 5-6 teams do. But today was progress and they should enjoy it and try to build on it. Let's see how the rest of the season goes.

APRIL...... ? APRIL...? So, the team tanks the season so we can chase some hopeful out of the NCAA? We are NOT going to draft a starting QB. The WR Selection is so weak that taking one before the second round is a waste of a pick. The talent is simply to similar among the WR's coming out. The positions Miami would want to use a top ten pick in (CB, DE, OG) are plentiful enough that a very solid player will be there. Some of the best talent available are juniors, and have not declared. Particularly at CB. Notre Dame has a TE worth the pick Miami will have....... Do you see the point I'm trying to make??? NOTHING IS CERTAIN IN APRIL... Miami has players who need to get better and learn how to win. Not teach them how to lose so someone in college can compete for they're job. I've own season ticket to this team since 1970... I'll Always own them.... Right up to the day the listen to some stupid fan and lose on purpose. NO TEAM WINS SUPER BOWLS BY LOSING GAMES ON PURPOSE....... Name one........ It ain't gonna happen. It is more embarrassing to have such fans then to lose straight up.

Steadman Bailey would look great in aqua and orange next season too. He's projected to be nfl slot wr. At that position he would be Devon Bess on steriods.

He actually has take it to the house speed where Devon Bess does not.

Orlando, the Jags/Fins game may be the first where there are no opposing team fans, but opposing QB fans! LOL.
You gotta hope pro Henne fans (why, you ask?) won't take it to fisticuffs with pro Tanny fans.
I always thought Henne was a gentleman about things, but THAT may have been his downfall, inaccuracy and lack of touch aside. He just didn't have that "leader thing."
Just didn't carry himself like the best QB's with an arrogance borne of confidence.
In fairness to Chad, he had a horrible OC to deal with, a fossil.

YG.......

I HEARD YOUR WIFE RAN AWAY WITH HER MALE FRIEND ,IS THAT TRUE ?

Of all the rookies QBs this year and 2nd year Players, I believe Tannehill will be the most successful QB of all of them.

Vet fan,

I think you're very wrong about it being a weak wr class. It could be a "tiny reach" drafting one inside of top 10. The wr class is very strong. There just isnt a whole lot of separation between drafting one 1st rd and drafting one 2nd rd.

The wr class is very strong 1st and 2nd rd, then 3rd is solid for #2's and slot wr's. Bess can even be upgraded with one of those 3rd slot guys. Namely, "Steadman Bailey".

I have to admit i didn't expect my Dolphins to play a much better and much better game this week! I predicted them to lose 21-7! I was wrong but glad! I sure hope this physical mistake free play continues! They're going to need to be physical and play better because of the tough schedule coming up in the next two weeks! I'm looking towards the draft next April! First things first, we need to find a new G.M.! We need a big play wide receiver, a pass rushing outside linebacker in the form of Clay MatthewsJr, a pass rushing Defensive end like J.J.Watts opposite Cameron Wake, a good, physical run-pulling guard who can also pass protect, and a hard hitting frre-safety who is good at both the run and in pass coverage, and two good cornerbacks, and a good tightend like Gronk!

I TOTALLY oppose losing on purpose, but apparently, last year the Colts had no problem tanking games. They made NO attempt to get better. Kerry Collins? He was 38 and retired.
