Call it a comeback.
The Dolphins were down twice in the fourth quarter -- once at 14-7 and then at 21-14 -- but fought back each time and just battled through a victory.
Dolphins 24. Seahawks 21.
The game was a coming of age moment for Ryan Tannehill. He authored a seven-play, 65-yard drive in the final two minutes to give the Dolphins a chance at Dan Carpenter's 43-yard field goal.
The Dolphins are 5-6 and end a three-game losing skid.

Orlando,
My plan is to let Starks walk and draft an OLB/DE in he first round. Then we move Odrick inside and have the kid come in and play end opposite Wake. this would take us to a TRUE 4-3 defence, rather than the hybrid we're playing right now. There's just not enough pressure and pass rush coming from anyone not named Wake. It was better today but I'll bet you it disappears again next week.

Vernon would be good for depth and to spell guys and hopefully a guy like McDaniel is back next year too. Make that moves along with a safety taken in the first four picks and a corner and it'll be a much better defence next year. As it is, teams can double-team Wake, as the only real threat to get to the QB.

Craig,
That is not a bad plan. Save some money on Starks and draft a pass rusher in the first round, I like that. Where would you spend the money saved, DB, WR, or both. Our secondary needs serious help and of course we need another big play WR.
Posted by: Orlando Dolphan | November 25, 2012 at 09:55 PM
Craig and Orlando we better see some flashes here from Vernon in the last 5 games or Im afraid they will have that to add to the list of team holes. We cant go on possiblities there so hopefully he starts flashing a little more.

Orlando,
I'd need to see who's out there at CB in FA. That might be one plan. Maybe as a replacement for Smith. I don't know what Smith is going to want. If it's big money and a five year deal, then I'd let him walk. They're going to have to budget money for Long and I think some should be spent on Hartline. After that I'm undecided. No to an expensive FA WR. I think once you franchise Long and give Hartline some, you're now going to have to decide if you're bringing Bush, Smith and/or Starks back. I'd have to look at it further Orlando but most of what I want to do, I'd do in the draft.

Phins78,
I don't believe he's our best player. He's a good player but he's going to want to be paid as a top player. I don't see it as a good investment. Has nothing to do with him as player but rather has to do with what we need to do on defence. Soliai and Odrick can handle what Starks does on the line. Odrick isn't a true DE and should be playing tackle. Their needs to be more of a pass rush from the defensive line. It was better today but it's not there often enough.
It's more to do with only having so much cap room and 20 guys as FAs.

Posted by: Craig M | November 25, 2012 at 10:08 PM
Sorry but Orlando Dolphin you have NO CLUE. How to build a winning team. Defensive End is one of our biggest needs that's a FACT. Odrick is NOT a 4-3 DE he knows it the coaches know and damn Coyle knows it he's already said. Vernon is NOT a starting DE he's a good special teams player and he can cover TE's as a nice LB.
Defensive End is the strongest position in the draft BY MILES. IF YOU HAD ANY CLUE AT ALL You'd know there's a 90% CERTAINTY they will draft a DE with one of their first few picks. THEY HAVE NO OPTION.
Posted by: jordan | November 25, 2012 at 10:08 PM
Starks probably won't be resigned Odrick will move inside and they will draft a DE high up in the best DE class in living memory. That is the SMART and NORMAL thing to do. Mike Wallace and Dwayne Bowe in Free Agency make way more sense than REACHING for a WR

Posted by: Onze | November 25, 2012 at 10:10 PM
Craig definitely not our best but definitely top 5 imo. Hes proved his worth as we have one of the best dlines in the league. I can name maybe four players on the Dolphins who have produced as much as he has. Not sold on Odrick inside, but I see your point about the money.
Posted by: Phins78 | November 25, 2012 at 10:11 PM
Yeah, we can't play with these Teams just yet, G-men, Pack, but hopefully we will.

Phins78,
Thanks for the info. Yeah, Quentin Jammer is a guy that would interest me. I've also heard that Asomaghu is a guy who could be cut loose by the Eagles. Not sure he's still got it but he's a guy we should atleast think about. I'd be tempted to look at a CB in FA. A guy like Joseph with the Texans would have been great (yeah I know he's not available and under contract).

The Buccaneers proved this off season the best way to build a team is to GET WEAPONS. Vincent Jackson has completely changed the Bucs and made Freeman a legit QB without one of them Tannehill will never be a top 10 QB. And I'm sorry to say but there isn't any like that in the draft this year.
Posted by: jordan | November 25, 2012 at 10:13 PM
Phins78,
I'd agree he's probably one of our top 5 players. It's not about him as a player but more about what we need to do going forward and how we have to allocate our dollars. To me it makes no sense to give him a big contract and ignore the elephant in the room....the lack of a sufficient pass rush.
Posted by: Craig M | November 25, 2012 at 10:15 PM
I did? I don't remember how. Anyways, I'm still enthralled by that sweep where Reggie scored. What pulling by Mike Pouncey!
Posted by: oscar canosa | November 25, 2012 at 10:15 PM
Going after Mike Wallace is something that this team HAS to do. He is the PERFECT FIT. And worth the money for a team like us who is so desperate for someone like him it's ridiculous.
Posted by: jordan | November 25, 2012 at 10:15 PM
Great Game by Charles Clay. He even got a chip block on that great Sweep.
Posted by: oscar canosa | November 25, 2012 at 10:17 PM
Jeff Ireland has been a COMPLETE FAILURE in Free Agency (main reason why were still not that good) if he wants to be a GM by next year he has to go after Wallace/Bowe or Jennings
Posted by: jordan | November 25, 2012 at 10:17 PM
This was a good win for sure but I echo the concern of fellow posters here that this should not buy Mr. Ireland any more time with our beloved Dolphins. His management has been mediocre at best, no other GM -except for soon to be fired Scott Pioli- has had that much time to turn around a team. The blunders simply outnumber the right -few- decisions made. Drafting Tanny in fact was a must move for Ireland. Ireland neglected the WR and TE positions for years and mede the coaching stuff work OT, especially Philbin. Had we gotten V. Jackson and D. Clark we would be in serious contention but we are not. And if we are not why was this team allowed to be a perennial 8-8? That's what really gets me; if we did not want to spend the $$$ needed why did we keep overpaid -and older- players like Dansby and Fasano. Why did we hold on to team cancers Marshall and Davis for so long when we could have gotten way more in return if they would have been traded earlier. Why the drafting of Misi, Egnew, Thomas, and many others.
Ireland must go!
Posted by: TigerSam | November 25, 2012 at 10:20 PM
jordan,
I like some of your plans about but adding Mike Wallace in FA makes NO sense to me. He's going to want a Vincent Jackson contract and we could accomplish the same thing in the draft. I'll make a friendly wager with you that Ireland and Philbin don't go this route. Probably why you want him fired.
Posted by: Craig M | November 25, 2012 at 10:22 PM
I was hoping for that. Didn't even read the post but I saw someone stole my sign in name. You're done bud.
Posted by: Phins78 | November 25, 2012 at 10:22 PM
I told my friend Julio with 1:21 remaining in the Game, Now is when we are going to find out what Ryan Tannehill is about. And we did. Solid(didn't surprise me).
Posted by: oscar canosa | November 25, 2012 at 10:23 PM
By the way Jordan, you don't build teams through FA. I know that's what you want be it very rarely works out. VJax is off to a good start in TB but there are tons of guys that never work out.
Posted by: Craig M | November 25, 2012 at 10:23 PM
Okay Craig you got me with that one, Im sold. Our interior will be fine compared to staying with the status quo on the outside. Good point counselor :)

TigerSam,
THOMAS? Did you watch the game today? He was outstanding! What is it you're looking for?
Noticed you mentioned all of Ireland bad moves but nothing about Pouncey, Wake, Tannehill, Martin or others. What gives?
Posted by: Craig M | November 25, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Not one single GM made an offer for Mike Wallace. What does that tell you bird brains?

Cheers, Phins78. Good site you directed me to.
I'm not seeing Sean Smith on that list. Is it because he's a RFA? Anyone know. I wonder if that might lessen the money he might get. Anyone know what we would get if we let him sign somewhere else?
Posted by: Craig M | November 25, 2012 at 10:29 PM
Tiger Sam, I agree with the Ireland must go statements to a certain extent. If anyone wants to have a friendly debate over my next statement I will be happy to hear your points. Ireland is HORRIBLE at drafting and signing (free agents) WIDE RECEIVERS and Tight Ends. Remember Clay is an hback. But Irelands history even the past two years shows he cant judge talent at the skill positions that are most important to the Dolphins future. How many of Irelands receivers did Joe cut? 8,,,,9,,, ? Too many
Posted by: Phins78 | November 25, 2012 at 10:32 PM
Good Game by D. Thomas also. He runs like a Horse. They didn't split out Reggie but they did Thomas. And he delivered.
Posted by: oscar canosa | November 25, 2012 at 10:33 PM
Craig , the draft is going to be horrible for wrs this year. The only kid worth taking in the 1st is a sophmore and not elligible. The rest are question marks. Maybe not Wallace but I was really hoping to get a WR and a CB in free agency this season. We should have plenty of cap room to sign two solid players in free agency. Maybe Bowe? Jennings would be perfect but his injuries scare me.
Posted by: Phins78 | November 25, 2012 at 10:36 PM
Phins78,
I think Sherman and Philbin know a bit about what this team needs for WRs and TEs. I think they're input along with the scouts and Ireland can get us what we want. You're right, Ireland has a blindspot when it comes to picking WRs but in his defence, Patrick Turner is the highest WR they have drafted. Time to bring an end to that in April.
Posted by: Craig M | November 25, 2012 at 10:37 PM
Craig, regarding the CFL, I've often wondered why NFL teams don't "raid" CFL teams more often?
Many successful stories, from Joe Kapp, Warren Moon, Joe Theisman. our own Cameron Wake (others I can't remember.)
On another note, it would be a feather in his cap if Mando could find out what is REALLY going on with Egnew. There HAS to be more than just a learning curve situation?
I also wonder, when we ran several no back spread formations, no Lamar Miller.
Why was he inactive? Injury?
Posted by: IMAWriter | November 25, 2012 at 10:38 PM
Phins78,
There's some really good WRs that will available in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. That's where we should take ours. some of the guys on here know more about these kids than I do but I've read enough to know there will be talented guys avaiable. I don't believe we have to pick a first round WR to get a good one.
