Dolphins can't let Pats cramp their style

This is a true story: In the hours before game time on Novemer 15, Dolphins cornerback Sean Smith was feeling a little weary. He didn't feel quite alert enough, quite energized enough to play an NFL football game -- particularly one at night against the Buffalo Bills.

Smith needed a pick-me-up.

The Dolphins cornerback related this to Dolphins teammate Paul Soliai (they both are represented by local agent David Canter) and the mamoth defensive tackle offered a simple solution to the situation. Soliai told Smith to take a 5-hour energy drink.

And Smith did before warmups.

And then he took another after warmups.

And sometime around the third quarter Smith started feeling his body tighten up. And by the fourth quarter he felt paralyzed.

"In that third quarter I felt a little pinch and I said, 'I'm ok, never mind.' But in the fourth quarter it was all over," Smith said. "I talked to the doctor after the game and he asked if I took any energy drinks and I said, 'yeah I took two 5-hours' and he said that was the problem. All the caffiene dried me up and it was cold so I wasn't probably drinking enough water."

Smith left the game with cramps. And his backup Nolan Carroll, who had been benched for struggling with multiple defensive holding and interference calls, had to go back in. And then Carroll was flagged again, costing the Dolphins a first down.

"I actually tried to get back out there for a play and as soon as I got in my stance I locked up," Smith said. "I came right back out.

"I was extremely mad at Paul but there was nothing I could do about. Imagine flexing your led straight for an hour. Flex as hard as you can and then release. My muscles were sore after the game. It was ridiculous."

And I share with you this story because this Sunday when the New England Patriots come to town, the Dolphins can afford no cramping on the field (as they had against Buffalo this year and last year in the season-opener vs. New England). The Dolphins can afford nothing but showing that they are in tip-top shape and ready to play 70-80 plays and play them with little rest between snaps.

The reason?

The Patriots run a no-huddle offense that goes fast, fast, fast. The Patriots also churn first downs like they're butter. While the average team typically snaps 58 offensive plays, the Patriots are averaging nearly 78 plays per game. And they're doing this with little rest time between snaps.

That puts a strain on the defense and its players.

The Dolphins know this and they have been preparing for such a challenge in practice.

"I think the practice environment is where we’re doing the best job to simulate the things they are going to see in the game," coach Joe Philbin said. "That’s really what we’ve been doing. We’re reloading the next skill set of guys that are presenting the look as fast as we can.

"What typically happens in the week is there is somebody holding a card up and everybody is looking and then everybody is breaking. We’re kind of working the next play ahead and getting guys going and using some of our own language on very similar plays so we can get guys up and running and just simulate that pace. I think it’s gone well. We’ve had a couple snafus, but that happens."

So will it work? No idea. But obviously the Dolphins cannot let the Patriots cramp their style.

We want no handouts around here. We want a chance to EARN whatever.

if tannehill has 400 + yrds in this game, its becuase miami is in blown out mode. You could also say that he will be very thursday brees like as in a 5 INT performance.....if the defense and running game dont show up with their A+ games, their very slim odds of winning go to absolute ZERO!!!

WOW.

U can't Say V i a g r a. How is that a Bad Word?

The Above Post didn't Post before because of that 1 Word. CRAZY.

dashi,

Dolphins around the $40 million cap space mark. At least $12 million will go to Jake Long alone. When you consider at least 6 more players to sign. The remaining $25 million just wont spread that thinly.

At least 2-3 current starters wont be back with the team next season. The economics and thier nominal play wont allow it. They maybe able to resign up to 4 players if some of those players are willing to play for peanut hulls.

Manny, I don't believe was upwards of 245 lbs, YG. Apparently, he was very strong also. On an interesting side note, I used to see him often at El Centro Vasco, a Spanish(not Cuban) restaurant in 8th Street. He spoke not a word of Spanish.

dashi,

It does allow you to say , Dashi's dick in your mouth" though. LOL...

Broder, Dashi, we get rid of all the Players you want to get rid of, we'll be left without a Team.

Yg,

The Jake Long Number is a Number that is Skewed. Let's Say the Fins Sign Him to a 5yr/$60 Million Deal. His Cap Figure Won't Be $12 Million Until the Final 2 Seasons(Signing Bonus)! His First 2 Years will be like a $6 Million Cap Hit! Now If We Franchise Jake. Then Yes His Cap Number will be Around $13 Million.

We are Closer to $50 Million in Cap than $40 Million. It's Close to $48 Million in Cap.

Plus If WE RELEASE DANSBY AND BURNETT!! We Free Up Another $16 Million. Plus Add Another $3.5(or $5)Million if they Cut R.Marshall.

That Would Bring the Fins Close to $60 Million In Cap. Let's Say it Cost the Fins $14 Million In Cap Space. To Pay Long And Starks.

That Brings Us Back To the Current Amount Of Cap Space we all Think the Fins Will have for FA's. About $48 Million.

With Decisions To Make On Smith and Hartline. Pay them Fair Price Or let them Walk.

Dashi feels Ireland And Philbin are only Going to Spend on 2 High $$$ Free Agents. 1 WR and 1 CB. And Maybe 1 LB If THEY CUT THE FAT FROM THE DEFENSE. Leaving Space to try and Draft Te'o!!

Then Expect the Fins to Fill the Rest of the Roster thru the Draft. 1 More WR's, 1 CB, 1 FS, 2 LB's, 1 TE, 2 OG's. Giving the Fins Enough Picks To Draft a Kicker in the 6th. To Replace Wide Right 2.0.

Yg @ 7:46. Hilarious.

Wait any Minute Now. And We Will get the Dashi in Ur Mouth Repost for the 1001 Time!! By the Egregious Ignoramus.

Just Saying. V i a g r a. Really?

How Insulting was the Joke? Or is it the Competition? Pays the Herald for Ad Space. And 1 Of the Words they have to ban is that One.

dashi,

I was thinking the exact same thing about Jake Long. 5yrs $60 million to resign him. The nfl is always a "what have you done lately" league. So any team interested in signing Jake had first better do thier numbers homework. If so they'll find his play actually decreased over the last 3yrs.

Based on this, I believe 5yrs $60 million is a very fair offer considering his last 3yrs of play.

Don't count the Phins out yet against the Patriots
http://phinsnews.com/phins-news-picks/phins-news-week-10-17-picks/phins-news-week-13/

dashi,

If I made an offer to Chris Clemmons, it would be about $15.5 million over 3yrs. The 3rd year optional, so we can cut him if his play still hasnt drastically improvened.

Year 1: $3.5 million with $3million signing bonus
Year 2: $3.75 million
year 3: $4.25 million (optional year)

I give V i a g r a to my race horses. It helps em.

OC,

We get Rid Of the People Dashi says!! We are Getting Rid of the Overpaid Garbage. Not the Whole Team.

Dashi is Talking About getting Rid OF the Guys that have 5+ Years of NFL EXPERIENCE! And Have NEVER BEEN TO A PROBOWL OR HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO GO TO ONE.

The Fins Have about 40 Players they Are Going to Keep. That are the YOUNG CORE OF THIS TEAM.

On Defense.

Keep the D-Line Intact. Add a Speed Rusher thru the Draft. Maybe in the 3rd or 4th.

The LB's. Keep Misi. Let the Other 2 Go. AGAIN HOW IS LB NOT THE BIGGEST WEAKNESS ON THIS TEAM? WE HAVE NO DEPTH!! AND THE STARTERS. ARE MEANT FOR THE 3-4! NOT THE 4-3! GO GET TE'O! OR USE A 2nd RD Pick on a MLB! U can get a Good One Early. And Draft a OLB in the 4th. Plus With the New CBA! U can Find Good FA Linebackers For about $5 Million a Year! MEANING U CAN REPLACE ALL 3 LB'S FOR THE PRICE IT COST TO PAY DANSBY 1 YEAR.

The Secondary. Keep R.Jones. Carroll and Wilson are Still Under Contract and They Are OK DEPTH. STILL MORE POTENTIAL HERE THAN THE LB's. Smith can be Resigned For the Right Price.

On OFFENSE

We Have a QB AND HIS CADDY. T-Hill and Devlin. Plus they Can Draft Matt Barkley in the 6th.

We Have RB's. We have 3 Young RB's. Plus a Young FB. Clay is also a H-Back. We can Draft Duke Johnson 2 Years from Now. B.Sanders 2.0!

We Need Wr's. Dashi feels the Only REAL WR The Fins have is D.Bess. Hartline is OK. And Will do for the Right Price. We Still NEED a Mike Wallace Type and a Dynamic Rookie.

TE's. Clay and Egnew Will Do. Just Add another Rookie Next Year.

The O-Line. Jake, Pouncey, And Martin are Keepers and Building Blocks to a GREAT O-LINE. U can still keep Jerry 1 More Season. And Find a LG in the Middle of the Draft for This O-Line Coach. Which he will DEVELOP!

Again. The Fins Have about 40 Young Players that Will Still be on this Team Next Year.

Dashi is Not Getting Rid Of the Whole Team!! Just the OVERPAID WASTE!

The INSUBORDINATE! And The Guys Who have Reached Their FULL POTENTIAL! And The Ceiling Was Not that High!

I would offer Sean Smith 4yrs $25 million

Year 1: $4.5 million salary, $4 million signing bonus.
Year 2: $5.0 million
Year 3: $5.5 million
Year 4: $6.0 million (optional year)

Dashi,

Basically I would offer all of the players fair market value based on thier past play. I would also make sure all of these contracts have optional final years.

That way, if there play increases, we keep them and they play out thier final years. If play decreases or stagnates, they're out of here and we're off the hook on the cap hits.

dashi,

I would also add extra incentive bonus for these players if thier play reaches pro bowl level in any of these seasons.

YG,

Agreed. On The Smith Deal. On Clemons. Dashi will offer ZERO. Give Coyle a Chance to Get a FS for His System.

I see the Fins Drafting 1 in the 2nd or 3rd. We Will Get better Value than Signing Clemons. Picture the Fins can get Elam from UF in the 2nd. And take a Flier on Ray Ray with a 5th or 6th. For Depth Purpose.

I would Rather give J.Wilson a Shot at FS Next Year than C.Clemons.

I have a Problem with His Instincts. Clemons Doesn't have None.

dashi,

Jake Long is probably the only player of the entire bunch I wouldnt let walk. I would offer Long the 5yr $60 million, but if he initially declined it, I would go 6yrs $75 million.

But I would let Long know that I would have to make that final year optional based on his play throughout the length of the contract. So basically Im offering him $15 million during the final year if his play has warranted keeping him the optional final year.

I only See the Dolphins Keeping 4 Players.

Long
Starks
Hartline
S.Smith

Agreed. On the Incentive Deals. Like the Ricky Contract. I wouldn't Mind Playing Players for Reaching Goals. ProBowls. 1000 Yds Rushing. TD's. Sacks. INT'S. Even for MAKING THE SUPERBOWL. I believe Incentives Help the Team and The Player. The Team Makes Sure the Player Has Goals To Reach! And Which Player Doesn't Want to Get Paid For Performance.

When my little precious girl grows up, I hope she does a little better than to hook up with a person like this, or else I will know I have failed as a parent:

YG has no life and maybe a dog for a wife, so I guess his only option is conversing with bloggers fixated with fellatio.

dashi,

The offer I suggest to make Clemmons are peanut hulls. Thats why the offer is only 3yrs with the 3rd year optional. It stills leaves huge room to replace himat anytime, cap space, or if the light suddenly comes on within this period, to renegotiate him.

This offer gives us laterall ability to go in a numerous amount of directions concerning Clemons.

Yg,

Agreed. On the Jake Contract. I Wanted to Make it 6 Yrs. But Didn't Want to Guarantee The Contract. A 5 Year with a Team Option for a 6th! Sounds Reasonable.

Jake wants to Stay a Dolphin. That to me is not in Question. I believe that will be the Easiest Contract. I believe Where the Problem Lies is With Smith and Hartline.

Starks and Long have Gotten Paid. It's Different when U Haven't. Smith and Hartline Want To Cash in! CAN'T BLAME THEM.

But LONG GETTING PAID! HIS ROOKIE DEAL! CAN HELP THE FINS.

Remember Reggie. He DIDN'T HAVE TO LOOK FOR MONEY WHEN HE SIGNED WITH THE FINS BECAUSE THE SAINTS HAD PAID HIM SO MUCH!

WHILE SMITH! Reminds Me OF DANSBY! A 2nd Round Pick That Wants to Get Paid! And Probably Will because He's Young and Has Great Size for the Position!

Oh Well,

I really appreciate your great concern of my lifestyle and marital conjugal exploits. Just dont know how it made this far in life without your perfect expertise.

Thx to you I nolonger have use for my hangman's noose. post your address and I'll send it to you. Ok, buddy?

On Clemons.

To Me the Light Will Never Come On for Him. Maybe It Does. But I doubt it. Coverage is one Thing. Taking Bad Angles Is Uncalled For. That MEANS he Can't Anticipate. Which Describes why he Sucks In Coverage.

R. Jones is Slower, But his Instincts Make Him a TOP 10 Safety in this League. We Need a Ballhawk FS.

YG,

Any chance you can help Da She?

dashi,

I dont see any problem resigning a Hartline. No one's going to offer him a #1 wr contract. Even as a #2 wr, I think he's somewhere in the 31th to 15th best range.

Hell, I actually think Hartline would have his greatest value to us if we could get a true #1 wr, a #2 wr whose great with yacs, and move Hartline into the slot.

I dont think there's a nickel corner in the league thaqt would be able to handle Hartline one on one. Plus, he would be a legit deepthreat down the seams of the defense.

Hartline 13th-15th best #2 wr.

When my little precious girl grows up, I hope she does a little better than to hook up with a person like this, or else I will know I have failed as a parent:

Home/Oscar.

Is it Dashi? Who has An OBSESSION For Felatio. Or IS IT U WHO HAS A INFATUATION WITH THE DASHI'S LOAD.

DASHI CLEARY STATES "NAME"

U ARE THE ONE MAKING ASSUMPTIONS.

U've Repeated IT a 1000 Time!!

AND NEVER ONCE DOES IT SAY DASHI'S LOAD IN UR MOUTH!!

RE-READ!! AND WITH BASIC COMPREHENSION!!

SPIT DASHI'S "NAME" OUT UR MOUTH!! OR SWALLOW IT!! AND NEVER MENTION MY "NAME" AGAIN!!!

ONLY U AND UR LOVE OF THE MALE GENITALIA!! ASSUMES I'M TALKING About Dashi's Dragon. NOT MY NAME!!

AGAIN I SAID "NAME"!!

This Will be the ONLY TIME DASHI ANSWERS UR IGNORANT REPOST!

YG,

Agreed. Hartline Will be Good in a Group. But Hartline Looks like the Type! That Will Take Money! Over having a SUREFIRE ROLE!!

Remember HARTLINE IS A 4th ROUND PICK. He Wants to Get Paid. Watch.

Dashi Out

Da She got Whooped! Ran away with tail up yinyang :=O

Tackle Leaders Thru Week 12

1 Jerod Mayo 112
2 Chad Greenway 107
3 James Laurinaitis 106
4 Luke Kuechly 105
5 Curtis Lofton 101
Jerrell Freeman

27 Karlos Dansby 83
60 Kevin Burnett 69

Now Dashi Out.

has anyone considered how hartline would look with brees, manning, rodgers or brady throwing? put that guy on a good team and he is a solid #2. how good do you think some of these other #2 receivers would have looked on our team the last few years? probably like #3's and $4's.

I dont think Hartline would start for any other team. He's less then ordinary.

It's a good thing dash isn't gm of the fins we would be big trouble if so that dude doesn't want the fins to resign Sean smith! Really you don't give up A 6"4 corner back with his speed

And dash needs to be out for good

i'm not happy with these hybrid half te's we have. we need a real solid te, and a gamer wr on the outside. i think thomas is showing signs of becoming a significant hb, but he is not there yet. with these picks we have, its time to pick top shelf and save the trade down bargains for another day. wr, te, cb with the first three picks.

MJ you won't get a rise out of anyone, for a long time now we;ve seen you only make these negative posts looking to get someone going. instead, check and see if you have solitaire on your computer.

MJ has a few aliases. He post things like

Henne > Tannehill
Moore > Tannehill
Cameron > Philbin

and most people know to ignore him.

remember ne is not undefeated. they have lost this year and they will lose again. i say we are do to make up for those sad games against tenn and buf. fin win on sunday.

blog is a real dud i see.

Armando is just a terrible writer. An embarrasment.

well not surprised this blog died off. hasn't been good for a couple years now. the wifey just walked in. time to take care of business. and ernest, i agree.

Ok Ok ok ........... just a lil pinprick

I do believe it's working now, .....

That should get u thru, ... Home's show

The child is grown

The dream is gone ........... .......

U r only coming thru in waves

.... Ur lips move but Home cant understand what ur sayin

I think it is called being in shape, something you should be in the middle of the season. Not having to rely of some energy drinkl

Well, our D is on the field a disproportionate amount of time because Tannehill cant move the friggin ball. He LEADS the league in 3 n outs so our D gets exhausted.

We should seriously think about killing ourselves because Tannehill sucks and we are stuck with him for 4 years now.

Tannehill is a cute guy, cute rear, but lame QB.

to
be
or
NOT
TO BE

MJ, we better not be stuck with Tannehill for 4 years like we were with Henne. YIKES!

Phinmanski = MJ

Lincoln said, in a condolence letter to a soldier's mom

From the pen of President Abraham Lincoln, written November 21, 1864.

“............. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they(he) died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
A. Lincoln”
